Chapter 19 – Never Enough

"Would you ever cheat on Sherry?" I ask as I look to my side and towards Dan who was busy doing some sit-ups.

"No. But I never really thought of it." Dan replies and he stops to look to me his eyes narrowing.

"Would you cheat on Lisanna?" Dan asks and for a moment I just stare at Dan like he grew a second head.

"No." I reply and I know it's a lie. Fuck it was the biggest lie ever.

"Why are you asking then?" Dan asks as he goes back to his sit-ups. We decided to exercise together and motive each other to stay in shape so on his off days he would come over to my place and we would exercise. "Are you thinking of doing it?" he asks and I look down at the ground.

"I'm just asking…" I say and I know I sound completely guilty because I was but I wasn't just asking. I was trying to justify my actions but there was no way I could, not in this world or the next.

"Did you know that when men cheats, they remain in love with their wives but when woman cheats they stop loving the person they are with and fall for the other man…" Dan says and at this I look to him in surprise because I really doubted it. Did he watch that on Oprah or maybe Jerry Springer?

"So men just cheat to satisfy the lust?" I ask and Dan nods his head.

"How many men leave their wives over how many woman leave their husbands?" he asks and for a moment I think this over. I would beg to differ. "I saw a show and that is what research showed." Dan says and I nod my head towards him.

"Explains a lot but I think that is not always the case and every situation has its own merit I think." I say as I grab at the weights and start a new rep.

"Why are you asking though?" Dan asks and I look to the ground as I start to count.

"Was just wondering…" I say and at this Dan chuckles.

"Is there a potential girl or is there someone you know who is cheating?" Dan asks and I shake my head.

"No. I was just asking." I reply.

"Maybe ask Gray or Laxus?" Dan asks and for a moment I stop and look at my friend on the ground was he honestly that stupid to say that?

"Laxus would never cheat. And Gray has terrible morals so no." I say and at this Dan chuckles.

"I can see why you say Laxus wouldn't. I mean he has Lucy and they seem like a solid couple, but I can't really imagine Gray… Wait is Gray the person cheating?" At this I chuckle because I know that Gray cheated on Juvia. But how wrong was he about Lucy… But that was mainly my fault.

"Seriously Dan? Are you really going to ask me about Gray when you even witnessed it?" I ask and at this Dan's eyes go wide as he stops for a moment and looks to me.

"Is it Lucy then?" Dan asks and at this I stop for a second too long as I look to Dan with an unreadable look on my face when I continue with the weights.

"Lucy was married before she was with Laxus, her ex-husband cheated on her so no it's not her." I say as a matter of fact and again Dan stops and he looks up to me.

"That is fucked up." Dan says. "She is such a sweet girl. Why would someone even consider cheating on a gem like that?" Dan asks and I sigh.

"He fucked a girl barely out of high school." I say and I know I sound rather bitter as the words leave my mouth and at this Dan gasps.

"That is fucked up. I bet you that left a terrible scar on her. So it's a good thing that she is with someone like Laxus, he will treat her like the queen she is." At this I look to ground, he always spoke of Lucy so nicely, but then again everyone spoke about Lucy like that, it was nothing new.

"Yeah." I say as I start to recount the reps I was doing with the weights. My mind was at war with my heart. I had conflicting thoughts and feelings and I wasn't sure I know how to act or what to do. I was sure that I loved my wife. But I was also sure that I was in-love with Lucy and I knew it was completely wrong. And I had no idea how Lucy felt or what she was thinking and that was the one thing eating me alive at the moment.

I take a deep breath and then my phone starts ringing. I look to the side not really seeing the screen on my phone. I see Dan looms to my phone as he was closer to it and then he sits up and pulls at my phone. "You going to answer it?" Dan asks and I just continue to work the weights.

"Answer it." I huff and then he swipes at my screen and he presses the phone to his ear.

"Hey Lucy." At this I stop and I look to him as he smiles and he closes his eyes. "It's Dan…" I hear him say and that when I stop everything that I am doing and then walk over to where he is seated on the floor. "Yeah me and Natsu are working out, what are you doing?" I hear him say as he turns and then looks at me smiling and mouthing to me 'It's Lucy.' No shit you idiot.

"Put her on speaker." I say and at this he pulls the phone from his ear.

"Hold on Natsu asked me to put the phone on speaker…. There we go…" He says as he holds the phone towards me.

"Hello Natsu." I hear her say and there is a smile on my lips as I look down to the phone in my friend's hands.

"Hey Luce… What you up to?" I ask as I lean down and then take a seat next to my friend as my phone remains between us.

"Good and you two? What are you doing to poor Dan?" At this a chuckle escapes my lips.

"No it's more like I am killing him with all the exercise." Dan says and at this she lets a giggle escapes her lips and it sounds so sweet and forbidden. "But I need to get him in shape!" Dan replies and at this Lucy chuckles.

"But round is a shape!" At this we burst out laughing.

"You feed everyone chocolates! What do you expect?" I almost yell and at this we continue to laugh.

"But round is a good shape!" At this I laugh and I swear I was going to cry at this rate. First she calls me round but she is the reason I am getting fucking round.

"Only round shape that should be in this world should be boobs and ass." A silences falls around us as I look to Dan who I did not expect that answer from. Even Lucy has gone silent on the other side but it was short lived.

"Natsu with round titties and an ass? Um no thanks…" Dan almost chokes when Lucy says this and I sit there, this was yet again one of those moments when you make fun of Lucy and she slaps it back at you. I sit there blinking looking from the phone to Dan who is having a laughing fit.

"No… No… Not Natsu… I meant you!" At this it goes quiet again and there is a remark on my tongue that I want to say and appraise her for her round breast and perfect ass but I keep it too myself as I stare the phone and then I smack Dan over his head and you just hear him say 'Owww'. "Sorry!" Dan yells and there is a giggle on the line again.

"Well I need to get back to work, I just wanted to actually ask Dragneel something…" I grab the phone from Dan and then tap the screen switching of the speaker phone as I place the phone to my ear.

"Dragneel present." I say and I hear her giggle softly as she takes a breath.

"I'll see you tomorrow night on the way home, I have cigarettes for you." At this I take a deep breath, thinking she would have something else for me because the past few weeks we kept on rescheduling.

"Oh, okay, are you going to drive to the boarder with group 4?" I ask into the phone and look to Dan who just remains seated on ground staring at me.

"I might. You want me to?" she asks and I smile and nod my head knowing she can't see.

"That be good to." I say and smile.

"Okay, see you then." She says and with that she ends the call and I remove the phone from my ear as I look down at Dan.

"What did she say that made you smile like that?" Dan asks and I take a deep breath as I stare at the idiot on the floor.

"She has something that she needs to give me." I say and at this Dan frowns as he continues to look up at me. "But its work related." I say and at this he raises a brow.

"Liar! She is going to give you chocolate!" At this I slat him again, he was just being completely crazy but I chuckle nether the less. If it was only chocolate….

"Did you get the message that the station is closed?" I look over to Gray as he lights his smoke and start to walk over to me.

"Not that I know of why?" I ask as I pull out my own smoke and light it.

"Juvia just called, she saw a notice on the Facebook page." I raise a brow and then look at my phone, still had shit signal in this shit place. But it was also almost time for Laxus' group to come and relief us.

"Well I haven't heard anything." I say as I take a drag from my smoke and I place my phone back in my pocket. We stand there for a moment as we watch the traffic becoming more and more trying to cross the boarder. "I swear there is more people each day." I say and at this Gray chuckles and takes a drag of his smoke blowing it out in the air. I look to the other side and I see that the bus is full speed heading towards the camp site. I just smile as I watch the bus stop and soon all the doors open as Aries, Laxus, Zeref and other peel out of the bus pulling their stuff as they go. I motion my head towards the bus and Grey smiles as he nods his head.

"Fucking finally." Gray says as we start to make our way to the tent.

"You can say that again." I say as I look to the side but no sign of the blonde I was hoping to see. I walk to the tent and throw my cigarette to the floor and stepping on it, killing it as I greet Aries with a wave. "How are you guys doing?" I ask and at this Aries looks up and she smiles.

"Better than the last few shifts." Aries says as she takes her seat and starts looking at the book.

"It cause Laxus and Zeref are lazy asses." At this I look and see the second captain who has been appointed to the group and I smile and laugh at him.

"Lazy ass?" I hear someone call and turn to see Zeref walking into the tent, there is a frown on his face. "Come on Captain it's more like sexy ass." Zeref says and at this Aries bursts out laughing. It was good to see the mood of the group was lifted.

"Sexy? Barf?" I hear as Gray takes a step into the tent and he shakes his head from side to side. "If you want sexy…. Just look right here…" Gray says as he points to his ass and at this we all starts laughing.

"Oh God… That ass…. If I wasn't so into woman I'd tap that." I hear Laxus says as he steps in and at this I start choking because what the fuck was up with these fucking people? I watch as Laxus walks to Gray and then sides steps him and grab at Zeref and even let out a growl.

I needed to wash my eyes out with sanitizer as soon as I fucking can, this was clearly too fucking much to handle. "The fuck?" The captain asks as he looks to the two males staring at each other winking at shit.

"That sounded soo much like something Lucy would say." Gray says as he grabs his sides laughing loudly. "Where is said blonde?" Gray asks as he looks around. It seems it's become an habit for her to ride along and driving back with us.

"Said blonde is on the phone arranging de-con for the station." Zeref says as he starts pulling on his bullet proof fest and fastening it.

"We have another one?" I ask as I grab at my equipment and look for my lunch box.

"No, actually it's for the Station in Hargeon, they can't access the station to arrange it themselves so Mavis asked Lucy to arrange it." My heart almost sank when I heard that there was decontamination being arranged. I have a fear for this sickness and I just can't explain why. Since the Captain on this shift tested positive no one else have gotten sick yet and we were lucky for that. Out of all the station in our area, our station didn't close once since this started while some station closed maybe once to twice a week.

But this also made me worry because Dan was stationed at Hargeon. I do hope that he is okay. I would send him a message as soon as we get into the bus.

"Jack of all trades I see." Gray says and at this Lucy just smiles and she lets a little giggle leave her lips.

"Something like that." Lucy says as she walk to Laxus and stands by his side and he places his arm around her. As I see this I look down and I look anywhere but at them, I couldn't and I couldn't make a scene or anything.

"I'm going to get my stuff into the bus." I say as I turn on my heel and then make my way towards the bus, I place my equipment in the back and glance back to the group of people standing at the tent. Zeref soon makes it to the bus and then he smiles to me. "Forgot something?" I ask as he looks to the side and it seems he found what he was looking for.

"We brought a small barbeque stand so we can make a firearm and make food since we in the middle of nowhere and during night shifts all the places are closed." I look as he moves the barbeque out and soon it is in his arms. "Can you just help me with those two bags of wood?" he asks and I nod my head as I move to the bags and take one in each arm. I don't look anywhere but at the floor making sure I keep my eyes on Zeref's boots as I walk.

"Does anyone have firelighters?" I hear Laxus says and I look up only to see he has finally stepped away from Lucy and she is speaking to Aries and Gray. She looks to me and then she smiles brightly waving somewhat. I stop soon and Zeref places the barbeque up with and in position. I place the packets down and then dust off my arms as I turn to the bus once again.

"See you all next shift." I manage to say loud enough for Aries and Gray to hear and at this Lucy looks up and she says something to Aries before she moves out of sight again. I furrow my brows, most likely greeting the other people.

I move to the bus and take the spot I now take in the back when Lucy drives with us. Her handbag is laying on the seat and I just nod to myself as I take a seat. It takes a few minutes and then Gray gets into the driver's seat, and then Lucy takes a step into the bus and when she sees me she smiles. Soon our captain and the other members get in and the bus is started.

She takes her seat, making herself comfortable as she pulls out her phone and she places it on her lap. She smiles and then she looks over to me. I have my head against the headrest looking straight in front of me but I can see her out of the side of my eye.

I pull out my phone and move over to my messaging app and quickly move to Dan's name as I type a simple greeting and asking if he was ok.

"Chocolate?" I hear and look to my side as Lucy reaches into her bag and she pulls out a chocolate and hand it over to me. I smile as I nod my head.

"Thanks." I say as I take it and I start taking of the wrapper. "Glad to see you came." I say as I bring the chocolate to my mouth and take a bite.

"You asked me to." She says as a matter of fact and at this I nod my head to her. "How are you?" she asks and I turn my head slightly to look at her.

"I'm fine, and you?" I say and she just continues to smile towards me.

"I'm good, so you and Dan are now a thing?" did I sense some jealousy when she said that, then she giggles and slaps my shoulder.

"A thing?" I ask laughing slightly.

"You two are becoming inseparable." Lucy says as she looks to the side to everything passing us by. "I might just admit, I'm a little jealous he spends so much time with you." At this I raise a brow because this is the first I have ever heard of this. Lucy jealous? How?

"Jealous? Of what?" I ask and at this she looks back to me.

"He gets to spend a lot of time with you, and I barely see any of you unless it's for work." At this I frown and then I reach my hand towards her slightly swiping my thumb over her chin.

"We both have hectic lives, beside I can't just tell you that I am coming to visit you." I say and at this her eyes meets mine.

"Not really true." At this I frown. She was lying.

"If you are not at work, then you're possibly with Laxus, and I doubt I can just visit you when he is there." I say and at this she turns her head and moves her head from my hand.

"I'm at work during the mornings." She says but I raise a brow. "And I see Laxus when we drive together or maybe like once a week he comes to me." She turns her head to me and furrows her brow.

"I thought he spent his days off with you." At this there is a humourless chuckle that leave her mouth and she shakes her head from side to side.

"As if." She replied and I continue to look to her. After that we didn't really speak and when we got to the station I followed her to her office and she presented me with a carton of cigarettes. I look down at the blonde as she hands me the carton.

I sigh as I move a step closer and II wrap my arm around her pulling her to me in a tight embrace. She just melts against me as she wrap her arms around me as well. "Jealousy is nasty sometimes." She mutters.

"You're jealous of Dan and I am jealous of not only Laxus but everyone that knows you." I say and at this she looks up and she furrows her frowns but smiles. Somehow I think we both were jealous for different reasons. And if you look at it from my point of view it was in a love related way, but if you look at it from her point of view, she meant it in a friendship kind of way and I learned that the hard way later.

"Natsu!" I look up as Lisanna walks into the living room, she is followed by Sherry and Dan. I smile as I rise to my feet to greet my friend and his fiancé.

"Hey guys, how are you guys?" I say as I shake hands with Dan and lean in to hug Sherry.

"Well Sherry found Lisanna at this shop and she invited us over." Dan says and at this I smile as I look to my wife, she seemed very pleased with herself as she places her grocery bags on the counter, and it seems that Dan and Sherry was helping her carry those bags.

"Natsu has seemed a bit down these past two days so thought we could all have dinner together." Lisanna says and I look to her frowning. I seemed down? Well when we got the news that Dan was okay and he wasn't near the person who tested positive at their station I was very glad, but I just felt low. And I couldn't really put my finger on why I seemed down. Maybe it was obvious.

"Aw thanks babe." I say as I walk to the fridge opening the door and looking into it, there was still liquor in it since before the lock down. I take two beers and hand one to Dan who takes it eagerly.

"Such a considerate wife." Sherry says as she smiles to me and I look to the pink haired woman who was standing next to my wife, helping her pack away everything.

"One I don't deserve." I say and the words leaving my mouth are bitter.

"She deserves better then you." Dan says as he chuckles and he punching me in my side. "Just kidding…. Or am I?" he asks and he wiggles his eye brows at us and this makes Lisanna and Sherry laugh out loud. He was one hundred percent right. She did deserve better. I open my beer and I bring it to my mouth taking a gulp.

"You guys want some pasta?" Lisanna asks and I just nod my head. I see Dan also nodding his head and then Sherry beams.

"With a green salad." Sherry says and Lisanna smiles brightly. I look to my wife who really have seem to adjust better than I thought. She was more talkative and she was always happy and smiling when Dan and Sherry was over. She had really found a good friend in the pink haired woman and that was good. She needed good.

"Natsu I heard that your Station Commander in on self-isolation." At this I turn to look at Dan as he takes a seat on the couch. I furrow my brows as I also take a seat.

"When did you hear that?" I ask.

"Oh yes love, Juvia also told me she heard that." At this I look to my wife who continues to smile as she works with the food that she is preparing.

"No our commander said that they were at a steering committee and one of the Army officers who also attended actually tested positive a day later." Dan says and I look back to my friend with a frown on my face. Mavis was identified as a close contact? That should be a clear shock to her I am sure.

I reach for my phone and go to my messaging app, not seeing any unread messages but I move to Lucy and then open our empty chat. 'Hey is Mavis on isolation?' I send her the message and as usually she is online and typing back.

'Yes she was identified as a contact.' Came her reply and I almost gasp.

"Did you also hear that the Station commander of Desert Village also tested positive, he was moved into ICU this morning?" At this I go completely cold and I can't help the goose bumps that cover my body.

"That's not good." I manage to say as I look back to my phone.

'Is she going to get tested?' I type to Lucy.

'Most likely.' She replies back and I just furrow my brows as I look to my wife, then Sherry and then Dan.

"We need to be more cautious, this virus is spreading a lot now." Sherry says as she starts to chop onions.

"This gives a person such a fright." Lisanna says as she looks to me and I just nod my head, I was at a loss of words actually.

"Ever since I could remember, Everything inside of me just wanted to fit in, I was never one for pretenders, Everything I tried to be, Just wouldn't settle in" Imagine Dragons - Monster

"Shouldn't you be in isolation as well?" I hear someone say as I turn the corner. I see Lucy standing to the side, she is looking at the floor. "I'm speaking to you!" The other persons says, raising their voice slightly more.

"Why would I even be?" Lucy asks as she looks up and to the person who is standing a few feet away from her.

"You are always with her! What if you get us all sick! Oh God these commander don't fucking care about our and our families health!"

"Do you even know the protocol to contain COVID-19 within the work place?" Lucy asks and she seems dead serious as she looks to the other person and I just remain where I am as I watch them. I know she can't see me but I can see her.

"Are you giving me attitude? Are you calling me stupid!" the second person yells and I watch as Lucy remains standing there, staring at the person in front of her and I won't lie she looked scary as hell.

"Well are you stupid?" Lucy asks and her tone is cold.

"You're going to make all of us sick because you're her lap dog, always at her side!" At this Lucy narrows her eyes and then a humourless chuckle leaves her mouth.

"Since you are stupid let me explain this to you in simple. Mavis was identified as a contact, this does not mean she contracted the virus, she was sent for isolation and she can test in a few days. This doesn't mean just because I work with her that I am a contact as well, that is a contact of a contact thus it is irrelevant. And the fact that you are treating me with such disrespect and spouting bullshit just shows you how much you know. Before you go and run your mouth about things you have no idea about, think. You can think right?" The other person remains silent as they stare towards Lucy.

"If you spread false information or insinuate that anyone tested positive who has not or if you go around giving out information that should be seen as classified I will take disciplinary steps against you and not only that releasing information of persons who has tested positive to evoke fear in the community is a crime so don't let me charge you as well. You are out of order and I will not tolerate this or your attitude." Lucy continues and I watch her, she was intimidating as fuck as she continued to speak.

"I…" the other person starts but is stopped by Lucy.

"If that is not an apology, I don't want to hear it, and if you are going to continue to give me attitude or disrespect me I will do consequence management against you. Do you understand?" Lucy says and at this I just see the person nod their head.

This was the first time I see Lucy stand up like that for herself and educate another person, I swear to God I never wanted to be on the receiving end of that. She held herself high and she acted out of protocol and discipline.

"I apologize Miss Heartfelia." The person says and they look down, trying not to make eye contact with Lucy, she even looked intimidating as she stared the person down.

Would it be wrong to say that I felt slightly aroused seeing Lucy like that? I shake my head from side to side, not the time or place to think of this. Lucy nods her head and she turns on her heel as she starts to make her way towards me. I quickly straighten myself as I try and make it like I didn't just eavesdrop. And as soon as she turns the corner our eyes meet and I smile.

"Hello Lucy." I say with a smile and I spread my arms wide to embrace her.

Her eyes meet mine and then she raises a brow. "Hi… and this?" she asks as she stands still for a few moments.

"I'm greeting you silly." I say and she tilts her head to the side.

"Oh so you're not scared to get my second hand COVID like the rest?" she says and her tone seemed that she was still irritated.

I roll my eyes at her as I take a step closer and then fold my arms around her and hug her.

"You're being silly." I say and she wraps her arms around me hugging me closer to her small body. "Do they act like that a lot with you?" I ask as I look down at the blond in my arms and I hear her sigh.

"You have no idea." She replay and for a moment I just hold her and I savour her sweet scent and warmth. "I try my best not to be in contact with anyone, I don't want to go into self-isolation. And I am scared that I might get sick but I know I have a good immune system so yeah." She says and this time I sigh. If she ever got sick this station might just end up burning down to the ground.
