I had promised fluff and this isn't fluff but I can offer some drama.
Draco Malfoy
Draco Malfoy was incredibly uncomfortable in muggle London. The cacophony of the city always gave him a headache. He hated having to blend in with muggles. The clothes felt unnatural and foreign, he was always wondering if he was failing to act muggle. He would have refused to do this charade for anyone but Padma.
They always found each other in a small cafe that Padma adored. The first or second Friday that Padma was back home. They would meet up and spend time together. It was an odd tradition, most people would consider it cheating but things ever never normal between them.
The three of them had tried to explain it away as insanity brought by the stifling, violent atmosphere of Carrow's Hogwarts. They spent hours holed up in the Shrieking shack just talking. It was strange that he missed it. He missed how simple it had been between them before the end of the war. Everything went to shit after the war ended.
Draco had been lost in thought that he hadn't noticed Padma sitting down next to him at first. He was startled.
"Daydreaming?' She asked, her eyes flickering with warmth.
"No better dream than you sweetheart." He took her hand in his.
Padma laughed "Draco, That was awful."
"You love it." She pulled her hand away from his petulantly.
"I don't." She said.
Draco had missed her. She was an imposing woman. She was beautiful and frighteningly intelligent but she still loved it when he acted like 'a besotted idiot'. They talked for hours. They both loved to gossip and Draco filled her in on all the biggest scandals that had unfolded in her absence.
They had been avoiding the topic of Astoria. They had fallen into the pattern of avoiding Astoria until Padma brought her up and she seemed adamant to avoid the topic. It was an awkward dance that he had become accustomed to. They both never wanted to talk about the other unless it was absolutely necessary.
" Draco? Are you even listening to me?" She asked.
"It is going to rain." She said looking out the window. " let's leave, I don't want to get drenched."
"I am not coming to the hotel." Draco said. He had been dreading this moment for a long time. It felt wrong to be with Padma when he was engaged to Astoria. Even though Astoria had never told him to stop. It had been gnawing on his conscience for years. He couldn't be a coward. He needed to stop this.
"Are seriously acting coy now?" Padma smirked.
"I am engaged, Padma. I don't think it would be right."
Hurt and betrayal were etched on Padma's face. "I don't need a lecture on morality from a fucking Malfoy. I bet you both never saw anything wrong with using me."
Draco flinched and tried to comfort her. "Save it for someone who cares."
She left without saying another word. He couldn't shake the feeling that he had ruined one of the best thing that had happened to him.
Parvati Patil
Her sister had fucked her over. Every time Padma graced Britain with her presence. Her mother insisted on inviting both of them over for a family dinner. Her mom always bullied her into forcing Padma to attend.
She had convinced her to come over but when the faultless Padma Patil had failed to show up for the dinner. Her parents had blamed it on her and used it as an excuse to find fault in all aspects of her life. It had been a miserable slog of three hours and she hated her sister for bailing on her.
Padma had rented a small flat in the city while she was staying here. She apparated to an apparition spot near her sister's flat. She was mostly driven by her anger but a small part of her was concerned by her sister's unusual flakiness.
She knocked hard on her door. " Padma! I hope you are not here!" she yelled. She hadn't expected an answer but she heard footsteps inside the house and Padma opened the door.
"Sorry, What happened?" Padma asked.
Padma looked disheveled, well more disheveled than usual. Her hair was a mess and her eyes had bloodshot. She could smell alcohol on her.
"Are you drunk?" She asked her.
"I am an adult, I well get sloshed if I want to!" Padma snapped before walking back towards her couch.
"That is fine." She responded while getting into the flat and closing the room behind her.
"If you want to drink fire whiskey until you can't stand, I am not going to stop you but don't skip dinner with our parents to dull your overactive mind the worst fire whiskey in the world.'
Padma raised her hand apologetically, " Fuck, Paro, I am sorry. I really am. They must have been horrible."
Padma never called her Paro unless she was incredibly messed up.
"They were but nothing I couldn't handle," she said.
"Are you alright? Did something happen with the mastery?"
"No no, The mastery is fine, Everyone loves my work, Mungo wants to hire me when I am done with the mastery" Padma said
"Is it boy trouble?" Parvati asked, Padma was incredibly secretive about her love life and rarely opened up about it. She knew Padma was never going to tell her anything.
"You could say that." she snorted. Parvati was a bit disappointed but she was about to speak when Padma continued.
" I have been so fucking stupid Paro, I knew it could only end this way. It would end with me being thrown aside and I can't bear the thought of them getting married. I have been so blind, Paro. I imagined it would work out somehow. I had hoped it would even though I knew better."
Parvati was horrified, The only wizard who was going to get married who was around their age was Malfoy."
"Draco Malfoy!" She yelled. Parvati felt sick, She really hoped it wasn't Malfoy.
She shook her sister. " Please tell me you have not been sleeping with Malfoy of all people."
" I …" Padma paused " I…, Yes.
" How long have you both been sneaking around?" She asked
" A few years." she answered
" A few years! You have to tell her Padma. She deserves to know before they get married."
Padma snorted and reached for more fire whiskey.
"If you don't tell her, I will." Parvati said.
" I love you Padma but you need to set things right. You need to tell her and if you won't tell her I will."
" She will hate me." Padma said slowly. She started to tear up.
"She has valid reasons to hate." Parvati said
"I guess she does." Padma responded.
