Hermione Granger
The floo threw Hermione out rather rudely. She had gotten the hang of floo travel but she had been preoccupied with work to stick the landing.
"Are you hurt?" Ron asked her offering her a hand.
"I'm fine." Hermione peeked at a table. Harry and Ron were playing chess and Harry seemed to be losing. His knight was being mauled by Ron's queen.
"Haven't you gotten bored with winning against us?" Hermione asked
"No" Ron answered earnestly.
Hermione flicked her wand and forced the chess set to pack up.
" No distractions during meetings." She admonished him. Ron looked upset but he didn't protest.
"What is happening at the ministry?" Ron asked first.
"Very quiet," Harry responded. " Too quiet, Something is probably brewing but I haven't heard anything too concrete from any of my sources."
"I don't think there is anything we should be worried about for now.' She added.
"Blimey, I almost forgot…" Ron said "Daphne Greengrass will probably try to buy your shares out. She offered us 1.5 Million for 30% so don't accept anything less. She seems a bit desperate."
Harry needed the money, between the fines from Gringotts and the massive debt he inherited from the Black Estate. He really could use the money.
He nodded, " I do hate to sell it but I have no other options." Harry grumbled.
"You could get married." Hermione teased. " you can take out more money from the trust if you get married."
Harry groaned, " Not this again."
"Things with Padma are bloody weird," Harry said, " Greengrass crashed our date and then Padma decided to talk to Astoria Greengrass."
"It is probably because of the curse." Ron offered. "You know, The curse which affects at least one child a generation. I have heard folks always try to break the curse. Padma may have been talking about it."
Harry shook his head. " I don't know, Something feels off."
"You don't have to marry her."
"That is a relief." Harry laughed.
" I will have to meet with Greengrass, don't I?" He asked
"We actually talked when she crashed our date. She seemed interesting."
"Interesting" Ron whispered
"Harry had a crush doesn't he?" Ron mocked
Daphne Greengrass
She was going to have a panic attack. She could feel it coming, she was feeling faint. Her hand was trembling slightly. Her mind had been numbed by headache and drowsiness to really comprehend what she had done.
She had slept with Harry Potter. They had met up for dinner but things clearly had gotten out of hand. They had even agreed on a price but she had gotten drunk and they had slept together. She had slept with someone she was planning to do business with.
She felt shame creeping through her. If her father ever found out about this. He would never trust her again and even if he didn't find out. She knew she had fucked up and she knew he had been right about her. She was clumsy and made a mess of things. Daphne could never be trusted.
"Are you okay?" Potter asked
For a moment, Daphne had forgotten where she was. She was in his living room. She needed to get her act together. She could have her breakdown when she got home. She was not going to breakdown in front of Potter
"I am fine." Daphne lied. " I am just stressed about work."
He nodded and offered her coffee. She was happy to have something to distract her.
Potter was reading the prophet and minding his own business. Plenty of men have acted overly familiar after they spend a night together. As if a night of fun meant she was besotted with them. She was never one to get emotionally involved and Potter seemed to be able to take a hint. Potter certainly had come a long way from the shy kid who hid from his own shadow.
"Are you going to head to work?" She asked him.
" I took the day off, Hermione and I are going to go through some of the estate records."
"It is a lot of work isn't it?" She asked
Harry snorted. "More than I ever imagined. It really has been taking up all my time."
"All the work and you get nothing in return."
He seemed surprised. "How do you know that."
" Everyone knows the Black estate isn't worth much, well everyone who can understand the basics of estate management." She explained.
" It is worth it, I was honestly going to let Gringotts have the estate but Ron changed my mind. The benefits are just not monetary."
"The Wizengamot seats." It dawned on her that he was spending a lot of money to keep the Black Estate alive just for one seat in the Wizengamot he controlled. It was obvious that he had political plans. She couldn't help but be impressed. Potter was almost acting like a slytherin.
They lapsed into a comfortable silence while they had breakfast. Daphne decided that she enjoyed his company. If things weren't so messy, she would have certainly loved to spend more time with him but she knew what was expected from her and she was not going to keep making the same mistake.
"I will not be a nuisance," Potter said.
Daphne stared at him for a second before he explained.
" I know we will have to meet a few more times to sort everything out. I will not pester you or make you uncomfortable. As much as this is fun, I understand if you just want to get forget this happened and complete the deal. We can chalk it up to a drunk mistake."
Daphne flashed him a genuine smile.
You are very sweet Potter." She said kissing him on the cheek.
"I can take care of myself but yes, I do want to forget this ever happened till we are done with the deal she said. I have to go now. Let's talk later." Daphne said
She had a sinking feeling that neither of them would be able to keep to their end of the bargain.
