I want you to know.
She returned anew and tear-free. She was unpacking when he entered her room. "It is not like you to sneak around, Miko,"
She turned. "I don't sneak; I went to see Inuyasha,"
He walked up to her "And the Slayer and Monk?"
"Mmm, they said hello,"
He eyed her; she looked tired.
"We have a guest; you will need to meet her,"
"Ok, when?" Here it was, her moment of truth. Could she pull this off?
"Tonight,"
"Well then, I guess I should have a bath and change,"
"You will find new clothing awaiting you,"
Kagome went to the chest and opened it and pulled one out. "They are beautiful; you didn't have to,"
"It has been three months since you have obtained new ones,"
"I actually miss my skirt,"
"I do not,"
"Sure about that?" She said as she lowered one of the dresses down. She had not meant to be flirty; it just came out. But it would do well to keep up with what they started.
He almost smirked,
She sighed. "It was a long ride; I think ill bath now,"
He watched her walk across the room and to her door,
"Did you not wish for me to go with you?"
"To the bath?" She raised an eyebrow; it was still daytime, and she wasn't ready to tell him just yet.
"To travel,"
"Oh, I mean, I didn't think to ask you. I just assumed you had stuff to do," Suddenly, she felt a little sick.
"You are pale,"
"I just need a hot bath," She turned and opened the door and then stopped. "Um, did you want to?"
"Perhaps next time I will join you, but for now, I will wait,"
"K," She said softly.
It wasn't so hard to talk to him as she thought it would be. Of course, after her bath and a change of clothes, she found herself in a room with him and his mother, and now she had two demons looking at her, watching her every move and line on her face.
"Come and sit, Miko," His mother pulled out a chair. Kagome sat, and food was put in front of her.
"I trust you are hungry Miko?" Sesshomaru asked as he sat at the head, her on his right, his mother next to her.
"M, yes, thank you,"
The door opened, and the awkwardness hit right away. The demoness walked in, her light blondish hair in long made-up curls running down to her waist. Sesshomaru watched Kagome as her eyes landed on the woman's showing bump. He would not tell anyone, but this moment was giving him anxiety.
She sat and looked at Kagome, then to Sesshomaru "Since you do not have a mate-
His mother laughed. "You are quite mistaken on that,"
Kagome stopped eating mid-bite of some fruit they had given her. Sesshomaru eyes her. She tucked her hair behind her ears, unknowingly giving him a full view of the mark, he had not cared to look at since returning just days after giving it to her. Her hands went to her lap, and her mouth stayed shut.
"You did not tell me you had a mate; I assumed since you sent from my father and brother, you were thinking about it with me,"
"Complications and unforeseen future led me to place my mark early; I assure you that she will understand the situation at hand," Sesshomaru waved his hand at Kagome, and the women looked at her.
Denali started to laugh. "A human Miko," She laughed lightly. "Forgive me for laughing, but it is rather shocking,"
"It's ok, I understand," Kagome touched the mark as if to hide it. "He didn't actually mean to mark me," She blushed slightly.
"And yet you are and are his mate," His mother stated,
"So then, why are my brother and father coming?"
"We shall have a gathering," He stated, "And announce the up-and-coming birth of my firstborn,"
The demoness smiled and then looked at Kagome again. "And are you ok with this?"
Kagome glanced at Sesshomaru, then back at her. "It's like he said, I understand the situation,"
"Good," The female seemed confident.
Kagome cleared her throat "If that will be all, I am rather tired from traveling in the rain,"
"You could have waited," His mother snapped.
"I didn't mean to cause any delay?" Had she caused a delay in their plans?
Now that did not sound like his Kagome. He was hoping for a show of slight possession of his person, she was taking this all rather well, and her timing to see her friends was somewhat suspicious. She had to know a female had arrived the night prior though the details of her she would not have known.
"It is fine; there is no delay, besides a pregnant female needs to be near the Alpha male as much as possible; of course, I am sure Lord Sesshomaru will explain as I am sure you are not aware of such things," The pregnant demoness spoke.
Kagome nodded, looked at his mother and him, and then stood. Sesshomaru watched as she placed a hand on her tummy and paused as she stood. It was only a brief pause, almost unnoticeable, but he saw it
"Are you ok?" His mother asked, grabbing the bowl of food and sniffing it.
"I'm fine, really, I just think I'm more tired than hungry, if you will excuse me," She turned quickly and made her way to the large doors, but just before she put her hand on it, Sesshomaru called her name.
"Kagome,"
She froze and did not turn to him as he made his way to her. Slowly she looked up at him, and she knew, he knew. He looked at her and then let his eyes drift down and ever so slowly back up.
"Later, ok?" She said softly and then pushed the door opened and went out of them. He looked back at his mother; then, he, too, pushed through the doors. "Miko,"
She fainted, and he caught her. Quickly he made his way to the room she claimed and laid her down. He undid all the ties and layers, losing the tight hold on her womb and waist. Kagome breathed, and her eyes fluttered open. His look was somewhat heated like he was angry.
"I know, bad timing," She said,
His chest was rising and falling harder; he was breathing harder. "You told them before me?"
"I wanted to tell you first,"
"Then why didn't you? Why am I finding out in this way?"
She looked away. "I saw her, and I knew the timing was bad; I did not want you to be angry and stressed out,"
She looked at him. "But you angry anyways,"
"I am angry that you ran to them,"
"I wanted advice,"
"On what, Miko?" What could she possibly need advice on that she could not have gotten from him or his mother?
"On what to do, I know you didn't mean for this to happen, and I didn't want to complicate your life anymore,"
He was trying to stay calm, but he was downright pissed. One, she told someone else before him; two, she had gone out in that weather; and three, "Why did you put so many layers on constricting your breathing knowing you carry?"
"It didn't even dawn on me, Sesshomaru, this style is old to me,"
He closed his eyes. "Bad timing," He said,
"I know, I'm sorry,"
"Why do you apologize for something you did not do?"
He opened his eyes, "I put it there,"
"By accident, you never-" She blushed. "At least not when you think I'm in heat,"
"And yet I knew there was still a chance; I am not angry," He just hated the timing.
"I have not seen her since before you,"
Kagome shook her head. "You don't have to explain anything to me, Sesshomaru," She was still lying under him. Yet he felt he needed to. Slowly he let his hand glide down her robe until he found an opening. He left his hand smooth over her flat yet cold skin. He could feel it now, the life growing in her. Damn.
It was supposed to be one night under the moonlight, yet he had discovered her body as a map, and he thirsted for its treasure night after night. Every day the sun would rise, and he would wonder what he was doing, honoring her or caring for her. But it was hard not to start up the passion they had; their sex was good as if she were touching him for the last time. He would take her over and over for hours as if the sun would never rise, and yet it did as he knew it would.
She didn't ask for more, and he was using that up.
"You are cold," He said, "You need to rest, and I need to think."
"Hia," She whispered, already missing the warmth of his hand. She hoped he would stay. But he didn't, and she curled up alone with just her baby. The blanket was heavy, but it didn't keep her warm. Only he could do that.
"Problem, my son?" His mother asked, finding him alone staring at the moon.
"She pregnant,"
"I am well aware,"
He looked at her "My mate," He said, "Kagome is pregnant mother; she told the half breed before me."
"Hmm."
"A moment lost that I cannot get back,"
"That makes two," She walked away. "She came to you first, but you were otherwise engaged with another female; her face looked much like yours does now, my son, so that makes two,"
He spent so much time trying not to be like his father, yet here he was. The moon would set, and the sun would rise and give way to another day. But damn, did the timing suck.
