"There's only one more slice, Liv, you want it?" Teddy called out from the kitchen. We had watched two movies and almost gone through a whole large sized pizza since Mom left. Apparently, there was one more slice left.
"Uhhh. No, you can have it." I said back. I was beyond full- I had way too many slices of pizza considering the fact that I am usually full after only 2.
"Yessss!" Teddy picked it up and tossed it on her plate, walking back over to the living room
I snorted, and then we both started laughing.
The front door opened.
"Mom?!" I perked up, excited to see my mom. Not only did I kind of miss her, but she had just been on a date.
"Hello?" Mom called out.
"Mom!" I turned off the TV and jumped off the couch, rushing over to the door, seeing Mom taking off her heels.
"Someone's happy to see me." She had a smile on her face.
"How was it!!!" I hugged her tightly. She hugged back, rubbing my back. I pulled away after a few moments, smiling excitedly.
Teddy came in, eating the slice of pizza.
"It was very good." Mom laughed at Teddy.
"Olivia was very pleased by the flowers and the door opening." Teddy told Mom.
"It was nice!" I said- and it was. Mom deserved to be treated right.
"It was very nice." My mom agreed as she walked into the kitchen, probably getting a vase for her flowers.
"You carried the flowers in the restaurant?" Teddy asked.
"No!" Mom laughed. "I probably should have brought them inside. I just left them in her car. It was fine."
Teddy nodded slowly.
"Don't judge me, I was nervous!" Mom said defensively.
I giggled, "Ok, how was it?! Where did you go?!" I was eager to hear everything.
"We went to an Italian restaurant. It was very good, we were able to talk a lot, which was nice. She's very sweet, and funny." Mom provided.
"So, will there be another date?" I asked.
"Wait wait... did you kiss her?" Teddy piped in.
I squeezed my eyes shut. Ew. That was the problem with being this close with my mom and her friends. They wanted to hear about kissing. I, on the other hand, did not want to think about my mom kissing someone. It was... weird. I don't know.
"No, Teddy. No kissing. You know, my daughter is right here." She reminded.
"So what?! Kissing isn't inappropriate!" Teddy held up her hands in defense.
"Ok. Another date yes or no?" I changed the topic.
Mom smiled, "I would hope so, yeah. It would be nice to see her again."
I jumped up and hugged Mom again. "Yay!! That's so exciting Mom!!"
She hugged back, "Yeah... it is exciting" She said.
Teddy smiled when we pulled away. "Go Zona!" She finished off her last bite of her pizza. "Ok, I gotta go home. Work in the morning."
"Ew. On a Saturday?" I asked.
"Sadly, yes. I had the same reaction" Teddy laughed. "Yay for first date, and thanks for the pizza. There aren't any left overs."
I giggled.
"I'll see you guys later, don't miss me too much." She pulled us both into a hug.
"Bye Teds, love ya!" My mom said.
"Bye Teddy!!"
"Bye!! Love you too." Teddy saw herself out, like always.
Mom went off to shower, and when she got out and dressed, I went into her room.
She smiled at me as she dried her hair, "How was your night?"
I sat on her bed. "It was fun. I wanna hear more about your night."
"Uh... there's not much more to say." Mom shrugged.
"What was it like?" I laid back.
"What was what like?"
"Going on a date. You know... with someone different." This was my Mom's first date since my dad. That was a ten year relationship. This was a big deal.
Mom tossed her towel in the corner of her room and then plopped down next to me. "It was new. Enjoyable. Fun." She said contently.
I smiled.
"She was really sweet. It was nice to... talk with someone like that. And it was cool to learn about her. She's bilingual. I thought that was pretty cool... I mean I could never speak two languages" Mom laughed.
I laughed too, "English and...?"
"Spanish!"
"Ooh cool." I was taking Spanish class currently- it was required. I wasn't that good at it, but I enjoyed it.
"Yeah, and she used to live in Florida."
"That's cool." I had always wanted to go to Florida. We never really got to go on 'family vacations' so, I hadn't been too far, really.
"I think maybe it could go somewhere, at least a second date." Mom was smiling at that.
"Good!" I matched her smile.
"How do you feel?" She asked.
"About what?"
"Me going on a second date with her." Mom spoke softly, calmly.
"Mom. Your choice."
"I want to. But, do you feel comfortable with that?"
"Of course I do. Why wouldn't I?"
"It's different for you, too. I understand if it's too much."
"Don't worry about that." I didn't want Mom to feel like she couldn't do something because of me.
"You're my daughter, that's my job." Mom laughed a little.
I bit my cheek.
"So," She turned on her side to face me. "What do you think?"
"I think that if you like her, you should go on another date." I stated matter-of-factly.
She nodded slowly. "If you change your mind, you'll tell me?"
"Yeah..."
There was some silence.
Then, Mom scooted closer and hugged me. "I love you, Olive." She said softly.
"I love you too." I responded.
Mom's excitement just made me eager to meet Callie.
I liked the fact that Mom seemed to have had a good time, hopefully she would say the same after a second date. This was good for her- dating. I think she needs to get out... especially after my dad. Hopefully it goes well for her.
I glanced up at her, her eyes were closed, a smile on her face. I smiled. This was good. Really good.
