All the tension of Mom and I's argument faded over the course of yesterday. It was Sunday. A new day. I was willing to push aside those feelings- I wanted to enjoy the short time we had here.

When we got back from picking up our breakfast from the bakery down the road, Mom and Callie had headed out on the back porch. After grabbing one of my blankets and very tightly wrapping myself up, I grabbed my bacon egg and cheese and headed outside as well.

The outdoors was Mom and I's favorite thing about being here. We were able to just sit outside and hear the ocean. It was relaxing.

"You look warm" Mom smiled when I came out. Her and Callie were sitting on one of the benches, cuddled up.

I nodded, plopping down on the bench opposite of them. I readjusted my blanket, and then started to eat.

"So what should we do today?" Mom asked after a few moments.

"Well, we have to go to Dane's" I said, and Mom nodded.

"Who's that?" Callie asked, tilting her head.

I laughed, "It's an ice cream place."

Callie nodded.

"Teddy and I found it one time when we were up here for her spring break. Olive was littllleee," She exaggerated.

I rolled my eyes. Now Mom had to tell the story.

"Anyway, we were up here with Teddy's parents- cuz we were still only kids. Liv was one-and-a-half, and we were just walking around down town and found this ice cream place. There was this 20 something year old working there, and she thought Olivia was the cutest thing- which she was-" Mom glanced at me.

I laughed, shaking my head in amusement.

"So, she gave Liv a free cherry slushy, and then every time we came here for the next few years, little Olivia needed a cherry slushy." Mom laughed. "Eventually she grew out of only liking that one thing, but we always go there. Tradition, I guess."

"Aww, that's sweet!" Callie had a happy smile on this face. She seemed so overjoyed when she heard the most simple things about Mom and I's life. She cared about Mom, a lot. I could tell.

Mom nodded, "So, definitely to Dane's. What else?"

I shrugged.

"I'm happy with just hanging out on the beach, it's beautiful here." Callie piped in.

After ice cream, we had decided to have a picnic on the beach. It was a little windy, but Callie and I went to find some rocks to hold our blanket down.

Once we had gotten that dealt with, I took off my shoes and ran towards the water.

"Olive! It's probably freezing!" Mom called out.

I laughed, just standing close enough so that my feet would be hit when a wave came.

Mom was right, it was freezing. When the wave hit, I screamed and ran away.

"Calliope!" I heard Mom yell. I turned around and saw both Mom and Callie running towards me.

I watched them go by and right into the water- almost knee deep.

I shivered at the idea of it. "How are you guys not freezing?" I called out, speaking loudly so my voice didn't get lost in the wind.

"It is so cold!!" Mom yelled.

Callie just laughed, "You guys are silly, it's not too bad." They held hands as they walked over to me.

"Not too bad?!" I squeaked.

They were still semi in the water when Mom kicked toward me, splashing me with water.

"Mommm" I jumped back, but then smiled, deciding to do the same to her. I ignored the ice like feeling on my toes as I stepped in the water.

"Don't you dare!!" Mom laughed, stepping behind Callie.

I kicked twice, once accidentally mostly hitting Callie, the second time getting Mom. I smiled proudly.

"Oh it's on" Mom let go of Callie's hand, stepping further into the water again.

"No no noooo" I squealed.

Mom splashed me a little, and then splashed Callie.

"Oh god maybe it is cold!" Callie said.

I laughed, sending a small splash her way, smiling when she looked at me.

"You wanna splash?" Callie asked, a big smile on her face. I really liked that you could always tell how happy Callie was.

"Nooo" I backed up while she also stepped further into the water. What had I gotten myself into?

Mom wasn't shy to continue her splashing.

Callie and I looked at each other again, and then started both splashing Mom. Teamwork.

I laughed as Mom squealed.

"It's cold it's cold it's cold!!" Mom jumped around, trying to get away, but Callie and I continued to splash her. Give her a little taste of her own medicine. It was funny, Mom never let this loose. She was enjoying herself, even if it was with freezing cold. She gave us the occasional splash back, but in this case, two was stronger than one.

When we finally stopped- my feet were getting a little numb, not going to lie- Mom's hair and clothes were thoroughly soaked.

"Guysss" She laughed and shivered a little.

"Ok ok that's enough" Callie had said with an amused smile.

"Are your feet numb too?"

Callie laughed and nodded.

"My everything is numb." Mom quickly got out of the water, and Callie and I followed.

"Oh poor Mama," I teased, but also hugged her, I knew she had to be cold. "You started it." I told her as we walked back over to our blanket.

"And you guys told me not to bring towels!" Callie laughed as she walked over and tossed Mom a towel.

I still was hugging her, and now was half wet because of her, so Mom wrapped the towel around both of us.

I wrung out my hair, which had somehow collected a lot more water than I thought.

Callie wrapped a towel around herself, laughing as we watched Mom wring our her hair. And her shirt. Clearly she was a lot more wet than us.

"Ooh. The wind just makes it even better" Mom spoke sarcastically, shivering and pulling me closer to her. I was also freezing so I didn't deny the extra body heat. "You guys got me good" Mom smiled. Even though she probably hadn't wanted to get soaked with freezing cold ocean water, she was happy.

"Teamwork makes the dream work!" Callie high-fived me. I laughed, nodding in agreement.

"A hot shower is gonna feel so good later." Mom said. And she was right, the thought of warm water right now- I couldn't wait for a hot shower.

"Well, it's a good thing Liv packed all the blankets in the world." Callie remarked, motioning to the blankets I had brought down. That wasn't even all of them.

I giggled, "Gotta keep warm! I bet you guys are grateful now!" I knew I was.

"Very much so, honey." Mom squeezed me.

Callie nodded. "Definitely a good idea" She agreed.

I smiled, pleased. I wiggled out of Mom's embrace and got a blanket, figuring I was dry enough. I wrapped up and sat down on our picnic blanket, Mom and Callie soon following suit. Mom was still wet, though. I had a feeling she wouldn't dry off any time soon. We had gotten her pretty good.
