Chapter 20
Bella's POV
I stood there glaring at my brother. I had just returned home from my trip to Volterra and LaPush and I explained to him what happened in LaPush. The Volterra needed help in getting answers out of a rogue Cold one. Then I received a call from Jake saying Emily was having the baby. I spent a few days with them. Now here we are arguing over what the elders told me.
"Isabella?" Elijah asked walking in. I looked at the entryway and saw the Mikaelsons standing there.
"Why are they here?" I asked.
"Because they deserve to know what's going on." Caleb said.
"We don't even know what's going on! We're going off what an old wise tale was told to me when I played human!" I snapped.
"Well things that were told to us when we were kids have came true in the last few years so why not add this to the list." He scoffed.
"Can someone please explain to us what is going on?" Niklaus asked.
"The elders in LaPush." Tyler started.
"No. Uh uh. We are not saying anything to anyone until we know whats going on first." I said angrily. He looked at me then at Caleb.
"Bella." He started.
"No, Caleb! We need to figure this out before we tell anyone." I snapped. He sighed and crossed his arms.
"I'm gonna need a drink if we are here to listen to the two of them argue." Niklaus said sighing.
"The bar in the den isn't broken." Reid said pointing to it.
"Why don't we all take a minute to breathe, huh?" Pogue said looking between Caleb and me. I rolled my eyes and walked off. I went out to the garden and sat on the bench. I took a deep breath and looked around.
"Bells." Caleb said. I looked up at Caleb.
"I don't want to argue right now." I said shaking my head. He sat down beside me and sighed. I felt the shield wrap around us.
"I don't want to argue either. I just want to talk." He said. I huffed and looked down.
"This scares me, Caleb. What Billy told me, I don't know what to think." I said shaking my head.
"I know. That's why your guard is up and you're fighting back." He said.
"We always thought these legends were bull. Now after all this, everything is coming true." I said.
"Not everything. Look Bells, I understand what you're feeling for Elijah. I felt it for Sarah when I first met her. We need to be honest with them." He said.
"We don't even know what to think of all of us, Caleb. I'm not sure what to think." I said sighing. He grabbed my hand in his.
"That's why Pogue called them. We all need to figure this out. Together." He said. I looked at him.
"How are they suppose to help?" I asked scoffing. He raised his eyebrows at me. I shook my head and stood up.
"No. NO! We are not asking them to take us to the bayou." I said walking away. I walked back inside and into the den. Kate got up and walked away. I went to the bar and poured me a drink.
"Bells?" Pogue asked.
"We need directions to the bayou." Caleb said walking in.
"Caleb." I said glaring at him.
"Why do you need directions to the bayou?" Elijah asked. I cleared my throat and downed my drink.
"Since my sister wants to be hesitant on telling you, Ill go ahead, she and I will fight about it again later. But while Bella was in LaPush recently, she spoke with Billy and the elders. A tale we were told when Bella was in Forks about a witch and a werewolf. A wolf came across a witch one day doing magic, she promised him if he kept her secret she would spell him to make sure he could transform at will. He promised and he turned back into a human." Caleb started.
"Caleb." I warned.
"Like any man, he was memorized by her beauty, he fell in love with her instantly. They spent a lot of time together after that. His elders didn't like the fact that he was in love with someone outside the tribe. But the witch and the wolf had a connection. A connection that couldn't be broken despite the efforts of everyone." He explained.
"What does it have to with the bayou?" Rebekah asked.
"History repeats itself. Bella is the witch, the wolf is in the bayou in our current age." Caleb said looking at me.
"Just to be fair, none of us really believed these ridiculous legends until we became immortal." Reid said from his spot on the couch.
"Stupid legends." I grumbled. Elijah had started pacing after Calebs explaination.
"So what you're saying is, Isabella has a connection to a Crescent pack wolf?" Elijah asked looking at Caleb.
"Yeah." He answered. Elijah nodded and grabbed his jacket.
"Lets go." He said walking past me. I looked at him.
"And where exactly are we going?" I asked him. He turned to me with an angry expression.
"We are going to the bayou to fix this." He asnwered.
"Where were your ears just now, Elijah? This connection I have with a wolf cant be broken." I told him.
"Theres got to be a way to break this connection." He said.
"There's no way to break it." Caleb answered.
"You're all powerful witches and warlocks, find a way. We are going to the bayou to see if they know anything." Elijah said looking at him.
"We don't even know who my wolf is yet, Elijah. See? This is why I wanted to wait until we knew more about the stupid legend." I snapped.
"Then we'll go and see who it is. I'm sure they won't mind." Niklaus said standing.
"What happens if we don't find her wolf?" Rebekah asked Caleb.
"Until he is found, the later it gets, the more painful it'll be for the both of them." He said crossing his arms.
"Well until I know more about this, I'll be upstairs." I said walking away. I walked up to my room and slammed the door shut. I walked to the bed and flopped down. I groaned when I heard the door open and close.
"Why must you anger me?" Elijah asked.
"Because it's high on my bucket list." I told him. I sat up and looked at him. He had one hand shoved into his pants pocket, and the other rubbing his chin.
"This isnt a joking matter, Isabella." He said. I got up off the bed and went to the windows.
"No but why are you even angry about it? Don't you have your wolfy girl to worry about anyways?" I scoffed.
"If you have forgotten Isabella, I've told you how I felt about you. And if you should know they are much stronger than my feelings for her. Shall I worry that your feelings for me have diminished?" He said. I turned to him.
"Seriously? It's just a freaking connection Elijah! Its not like I'm falling in love with him! I've already done that with enough supernatural creators." I snapped at him.
"So is that a no?" He asked.
"Yes it's a no! What the hell is wrong with your hearing tonight?" I growled at him. He smirked and walked closer.
"My hearing is impeccable, my dear. Because if I heard you correctly, you've fallen in love with me." He said.
"I didn't say that." I argued.
"You said supernatural creators. You didn't specify what creators. Given your dating history that you told me about, you've only dated the moronic human, Aaron, Pogue, and the cold ones. Now you are dating me." He said.
"So that's what we are doing now? Dating? We're putting a title to whatever is going on between us?" I scoffed.
"Well you do love me." He said shrugging.
"I didn't say that." I argued again. He stood in front of me now.
"Isabella. Be honest with me, do not hesitate, I want complete honesty. Do you love me?" He said looking me in the eyes.
"Elijah." I said sighing.
"Isabella it's a yes or no question." He said. I felt him consume my senses. Just him being close drove me wild, I cant even think straight when he's close either.
"Fine! Yes I do love you okay? But I have been everyones second choice for so long, dating another supernatural creator worries me. I know that you love Hayley and I know that you always will. But when it comes, there will be a time that you will choose her over me and I don't want that feeling again." I told him.
"When that time comes Isabella, I will die at the point of the white oak stake driven into my chest by Niklaus himself, if your brother doesn't kill me first." He said touching my cheek.
"Please my brother is to Noble to kill anyone. Aside from Chase." I scoffed. I turned away and looked out the window again. I watched Elijah's reflection as he stood behind me. He pulled the hair away from my neck and kissed it softly.
"I love you as well, Isabella." He whispered in my ear. I sighed and turned to him. I kissed him as hard as I could. His arms circled my waist and pulled me tighter against him. He picked me up and pushed me against the wall. We didn't leave the room for the rest of the day.
