Chapter 24

Elijah's POV

I sat in my study thinking about what Hayley had done the other day. Of course, a part of me still had feelings for her, but my heartbeat for Isabella. I sighed and looked at my phone. Isabella and her brothers were supposed to return home yesterday but I haven't heard from them. I debated on going over there and surprising her, but something told me not to.

"Mr. Mikaelson?" Our Maid asked from the doorway.

"Yes?" I asked looking at her. She walked in and handed me an envelope.

"This just arrived from the Danvers Manor." She said nervously. I opened it and read it over. I got up and walked to Niklaus' study.

"We've been summoned for dinner with Isabella and her brothers." I told him. He looked back at me from his painting.

"From Isabella or her brother?" He asked. I looked at the invitation.

"Her brother." I said swallowing hard. He laughed and turned back to his painting.

"Oh, how wonderful. I can't to see what happens tonight." He said cackling.

"Niklaus, can we not gloat about the impending horror of tonight?" I asked walking in. I picked up one of his brushes and tapped it against my palm as I looked around. He scoffed and continued to paint. He glanced over at me and smirked.

"You're nervous, big brother. Afraid that Isabella or her brothers may know of your little passionate kiss with the little wolf?" He teased. I glared at him causing him to laugh again.

"We'll be in a house full of powerful, that could kill us easily witches, brother. Are you not the least bit of worried to know what they could possibly want?" I said leaning against the wall by the window.

"Elijah, they could just be wanting to have a nice dinner with us." He offered.

"The first dinner we had with Isabella; she went to fight Cold Ones with her abnormally large wolf friends, second dinner, she and myself had dinner with the Abbotts, then she was taken by the locals witches and you saw how that turned out, third and final dinner you compelled the arrogant human to forget his fight with Reid. Nothing about a dinner with the Salem 5 is ever nice." I told him.

"You do have a point. Something always seems to happen when they throw a dinner. Maybe for once this will be different." He said shrugging. I sighed. I walked to my room and picked out a suit to wear to the dinner. A black suit, black shoes, a deep red button up, but no tie. I went out to get flowers for Isabella. We arrived at the Danvers Manor at 7pm. The maid answered and smiled.

"Welcome, please come in." She said motioning us in. We walked in and she took our coats.

"Everyone is in the den. Can I grab you some drinks?" She said biting her lip.

"Bourbon for me." Niklaus told her.

"Wine for me and my sister please." I told her. She nodded and walked off.

"She's new. She hasn't been scarred for life, yet." Rebekah said sighing.

"I hear no yelling, no breaking of things, it seems rather relaxed. Maybe we will have a nice dinner after all." Niklaus said carefully. I heard soft music coming from the speakers around the house. We walked towards the den and saw a woman standing by the fireplace. Reid, Pogue, Kate and Tyler were on the couch looking at their hands. The woman smiled at us.

"Welcome, Mikaelsons. It's a pleasure to finally meet the family that has changed my children's home location." She spoke.

"Well, I spoke too soon." Niklaus mumbled.

"Who are you, again?" Rebekah asked her.

"Evelyn Danvers. Caleb and Isabella's mother." She said crossing her arms. I nodded and placed the flowers on the table next to me.

"Where are they? Isabella and Caleb?" I asked.

"They will be joining us again, soon. My children are having one of their sibling talks out in the garden. Come in, join us." She said motioning to the couch. We sat down and the maid brought us our drinks.

"What brought you to New Orleans, Mrs. Danvers?" Rebekah asked her.

"Well, my daughter had this insane idea to make me think that my child was dead. Well, when they all came home, lost all their powers just to regain more, the compulsion she put on me was lifted. The little angry human she turns into was ready to get her powers back so she could return here. So, I had to see what was so important in New Orleans to make her eager to return." She explained.

"But with Bella being the most powerful out of us all, she needed more retraining to control her powers, so we needed to stay longer than we thought." Pogue added.

"Do you lose all the powers or just the major ones?" Niklaus asked them. I heard heels click their way into the room. I looked up and saw Isabella and Caleb standing at the door.

"All depends. Welcome Mikaelsons, I see you've met our mother." Isabella said stepping in. I stood up.

"We have but we have yet been introduced properly." I said kissing her hand. She hummed and pulled it away.

"Mother, this is Klaus, Rebekah, and Elijah Mikaelson. This is our mother, Evelyn." Caleb said sighing.

"You and I will talk later." Isabella told me. She walked around me and sat in her chair opposite of her mother. It was oddly quiet for a few moments.

"So, Mikaelsons, have the kids told you any of their older secrets yet?" Evelyn asked us.

"Mother." Isabella warned.

"We already know about Chase, if that's what you're referring too." Rebekah said. She giggled and looked at the others, and ignored Isabella's glare.

"You haven't told them everything, have you? Just like your fathers, all of you. Keeping secrets from people you claim to love." She scoffed. The others turned to glare at her.

"What secrets?" I asked looking around at them.

"Mother, tonight is not the night to delve into those secrets, just quite yet." Caleb told her.

"Why not? They know everything else about you all. Why not the other tiny details?" She said smugly.

"Because we will tell them, when we are ready. Not when you decide." Tyler butted in.

"They should already know." She argued.

"And they will. Just not right now." Redi told her. She rolled her eyes and stood up again.

"This is where you all turn into the others. Keeping secrets, lying about things, to the people you love. You're acting just like them." She said shaking her head. I looked at Isabella. What secrets are you hiding from me now Isabella, I thought. Do the secrets involve us in some way? Are we in some sort of danger? What were they?
