"I think that's my ride." I said as I peaked out the window, near the front door of Isa's house.

"That's not your mom." Isa looked at me.

"No, she told me she couldn't come." I shrugged as I tugged my sneakers on.

"Who is it?"

"My moms... friend." It was Callie. My moms girlfriend. None of my friends knew my mom was gay. I wasn't ashamed or anything. I just didn't know what to say about it.

"Oh. Cool. Alright, see you tomorrow?"

I nodded, giving Isa a quick hug and then opening the front door. "See you tomorrow."

"Wait! You're ok?" Isa gave me a serious look.

I didn't want to talk about it.

"I'm good." I whispered, before walking out the door, closing it behind me. I took a deep breath before heading to Callie's car.

"Hey Liv!!" Callie smiled brightly when I opened the passenger seat door.

"Hey. Thanks for picking me up." I gave a small smile. I just really wasn't having it after what Mom and I found out yesterday.

"Of course! Did you have fun? Buckle up." Callie turned the volume of her music down.

I buckled. "Uh, yeah, I guess." I shrugged.

Callie nodded a little, reversing out of the driveway and starting to drive.

"Are you ok? You seem... off-ish." Callie spoke up after a few moments of silence. I couldn't tell if she knew, or if she was genuinely confused. I felt like she wouldn't beat around the bush if she knew, but maybe she would.

"No." I kept it short. I wasn't ok. I wasn't going to lie to her. Some part of me knew I could talk to Callie. Maybe it was because I knew Mom talked to Callie. That meant Callie knew. She understood. Like Teddy and April. It felt... safe.. to talk to Callie.

"Is it something you wanna talk about?" Callie kept her eyes on the road, but I could still see her concern.

I shrugged a little. I wasn't sure. If Callie didn't know, did Mom not want her to? Maybe Mom was embarrassed. I know I am.

"Well, if you need someone to talk to, I'm here. I know you'd probably prefer your mom, though, and that's ok, too. But, I'm here for you." Callie offered gently. Genuinely.

I needed someone to talk to. Hopefully Mom wouldn't be mad at me for spilling to Callie. Maybe Callie did already know, though.

I took a deep breath.

"My stupid father got arrested. And his stupid mug shot is all over the internet. Everyone at school knows Olivia's dad got arrested." My emotions came out as anger, first. I didn't even know I was mad about it. I guess it made sense. I was mad at him for being so stupid.

"Wait... what?!" Callie looked shocked.

"Mom didn't tell you?" My eyes went wide. I really was leaning toward the whole Mom had told her idea.

"Um... no. Oh god... that's..." Callie clearly didn't know what to say.

"Insane? Stupid of him? I know." I sighed.

"Were people at school saying things to you?" Callie brought it back to me. Letting me know she really meant it when she said she was there for me.

I leaned back in the seat. "Yeah. Asking if I was ok. Some people thought we still lived with him. Even the teachers were asking me about it. They already had opinions about me being the kid of a teen mom. Now a dealer father," I laughed. It wasn't funny. But I laughed.

"I'm sorry," Callie paused for a moment. "Dealer?" She asked.

"Yeah. Apparently he was some big dealer. Mom didn't even know. I don't know how she didn't know but..." I shrugged a little. I was totally venting- maybe giving Callie too much information.

"Oh, wow." Callie said quietly.

"Yeah." I adjusted in the seat. "I'm worried about Mom" I admitted. "I think it's a lot for her. And... she said she was doing so good with her therapy. I just..." My voice trailed off.

"It's a lot to deal with for anyone." Callie said softly, pulling into one of the parking spots in front of our apartment. Mom wasn't home yet- she would be home soon, though.

"Yeah." I bit my cheek.

"Can I come in with you? At least wait until your Mom gets home?" Callie asked.

"Sure." I knew she probably wanted to see Mom.

She smiled, and we got out of the car. I led the way to the front door, unlocking it.

"Mom should be home soon." I told her as I closed the door behind us.

"That's ok. I just don't want you to be alone." Callie gave a reassuring smile. "Thank you for trusting me."

I just shrugged a little as I grabbed an apple from the refrigerator. It meant a lot that she didn't want to leave me alone. But, I wouldn't say that. Too mushy. "Yeah. I'm surprised Mom didn't tell you already."

"She's probably just processing it all. It's a lot, I'm sure." Callie said understandingly. She was so sweet.

"Yeah- it is." I washed off the apple. "Oh, sorry. Are you hungry?"

She shook her head, "I'm ok, thank you."

"Yup." I wiped the water off and took a bite out of the apple. "Thanks again, for giving me a ride, by the way. My friends and I had that get together planned for weeks. I would've stayed until Mom could get me, but I just couldn't handle the stupid looks of pity and worry."

"Of course, any time." Callie smiled. "How are you handling it all? I know you said you're worried about your mom, but it must be a lot for you, too."

I sighed. "It is a lot. I mean, I didn't even know he used. I guess Mom did. It's just... weird to think of him in that way, too. Like he did something so.. bad. He wasn't just a crappy guy. Well," I laughed a little, "He was still a crappy guy, but... I dunno." I tried to piece together my thoughts, but I didn't really know what I was thinking.

Callie nodded slowly.

"I'm mostly worried about Mom though." I finished.

"You're very thoughtful." Callie said, just as the door opened.

I heard Mom kicking off her shoes and putting her things away. "Hey, I'm home. Cal, you totally didn't have to stay with her," Mom laughed. She didn't sound happy, though. Not mad. Just sad. I knew what it was about. "Thank you so much for picking her up. You're a lifesaver." Mom appeared in the kitchen, immediately coming over to me.

"Hi, baby." She kissed me on the head and squeezed me tight. She then walked over to Callie and kissed her. It only lasted a second.

That was the first time they had kissed in front of me. I wasn't dumb, I knew they kissed. But, still. I think that's why it was short. Because Mom realized.

"Hi, Calliope."

"Hey," Callie smiled a little, hugging my mom.

Mom stepped away and looked between the two of us.

"What? Do I have a stain on my shirt?" Mom joked, looking down at her shirt.

Callie looked at me, and then Mom.

"I told Callie. About Dad. I thought you already did, though." I admitted.

"Ah-oh." Mom bit her cheek, her face getting serious. She looked at Callie.

"I can give you guys a minute." I quickly grabbed my bag and started to walk away. Awkward. I wanted out. Too many emotions.

They didn't even exchange any words- Mom just started crying. I turned around to see them hugging.

"I know, I know." Callie whispered, rubbing Mom's back.

I bit my cheek and fully entered my bedroom, leaving the door a crack opened.
