The next afternoon, Mom and Callie were getting out of Mom's car just as I approached the front door. I rushed over to Mom and hugged her.

"Olive! How was school?" Mom hugged me back. "Someone's happy to see me?" She laughed.

I smiled, "Hi Callie." I said as we all walked toward the front door, Mom kept an arm around me.

"Hey Liv!"

"School was fine. Boring." I used my key since I already had it out. "I got a 100 on my reading quiz in english class!" I opened the door, and the three of us went inside.

"That's amazing, honey! I'm so proud of you!" Moms smile grew insanely larger at that news. She always got so happy about my good grades.

"Thanks. I mean, it was pretty easy. It was basically checking if you read it or not." I laughed.

"But, you got a 100! That's great!" Mom reiterated.

"That's awesome" Callie added on.

I smiled. "Thanks. How was your guy's day?" I tossed my backpack into my bedroom, going over to the fridge.

"It was great. The weather is nice, so we were able to walk around down town a little bit." Mom replied.

"That's cool." I nodded as I got some leftovers. "Oh. Does anyone want some?" I asked.

"No thanks baby, we got lunch. I'm still very full."

"Me too. Thank you, though." Callie agreed.

"Where'd you go?" I asked as I put some food on a plate, putting it in the microwave.

"Mike's Subs." Callie answered. Mike's Subs was a local sandwich place that everyone loved.

"Yum!" I said, getting myself a glass of water. I didn't even sit down to eat once my food was heated. I was insanely hungry after all day at school, so I ate pretty fast.

"Jesus Olive." Mom commented after a while.

I just laughed. "I gotta eat," I paused to swallow my food. "I have an art project to finish by Wednesday. But, before I do that I need to do my Spanish and Bio homework."

"Busy." Mom concluded.

I nodded.

I quickly finished up my food, and then put my dish in the dishwasher.

"I'm gonna head into my room." I looked between the two of them. Mom nodded, and off I went.

I left my door opened a little bit, and got to work on my Biology homework first. It should be pretty easy.

I was just about done when I heard Callie say, "Do you think now is a bad time to talk to her?"

"Not at all. Go ahead." Mom encouraged.

I was correct to assume they were talking about me, because the next thing I knew Callie was knocking on my door frame.

"Can I come in?"

"Sure. What's up?" I set my Biology notebook to the side.

"Can I close this? I wanted to talk to you." Callie pointed to the door.

I nodded.

She closed the door, and then walked a little closer to my bed, where I was sat.

"Wanna sit?" I offered.

She smiled, and sat down. "So. Your mom mentioned the idea of... well, the three of us living together."

I nodded, "Yeah..."

"I just felt like it was something we should talk about, too. I know your mom told me you were ok with it, but I want to... make sure. You know, see how you feel, what you think."

Callie cared about me. I knew that just from the way she treated me. I felt more cared for by her than I ever had felt with my dad. And... he was my dad. Not too long ago, Callie was a stranger.

"I feel good about it. I think it'll be... I mean. It's a lot of change. But it'll make Mom really happy. What did you say to her?" I asked, out of curiosity. Mom didn't get the chance to specifically tell me- I knew it had to be some sort of good answer, though.

"Well, I've been thinking about the same thing. I told her it's a big thing for us to start to consider. I wanted to talk to you about it- we got a chance to talk a lot today. I'm sure your Mom will tell you all about it." We both laughed.

I nodded slowly.

"So..." Callie tilted her head.

"You love my mom?" I asked after some silence.

Callie seemed confused, but immediately replied with, "Yes, of course."

"I don't want her to get hurt again." I said very quietly. It wasn't something I had brought up with Mom- she would think a worry like that was silly. But, I know how she felt after Dad left her- us. Even if the relationship was bad, it hurt her to be left like that. I wouldn't let it happen again.

Callie looked at me, "I would never hurt her. Or you." She reassured, her eyes showing care, concern.

It was that. The or you.

Callie didn't know that I was also worried about having someone leave my life again. But, she still reassured me in that sense, too. Sure, I don't know Callie perfectly. But, she has become a big part of my life. It would be foolish to say that her leaving wouldn't hurt me, too. I think we all knew that- just, no one said it.

But Callie was able to reassure me. That meant a lot.

"I know this is a big step. Not just for me and your mom, but for you. And I know your mom has probably said this a tiring amount of times to you, but I don't want to take this step unless you're ready. Because, I know it'll be- like you said, a lot of change." Callie said after a few moments.

I nodded slowly.

"I can promise you that I would never hurt you or your mom. I don't plan on leaving you guys or-" Callie sighed. "I can promise you that."

I smiled a little. "Thanks, Callie." That was a lot of the reassurance I needed.

Callie knew the perfect thing to say. I could already say I was feeling better about the whole moving thing.

One big part of my worries had been the fact that moving in meant being close with Callie. What if she left?

Sure, promises can be broken, but I had a feeling Callie didn't break promises.

"Of course." Callie smiled back. "Moving in will be a big step, and I just want you to know that however you're feeling about it is ok, and if you decide you don't feel comfortable any more, or you're not sure if you're ready, it's really okay. I won't take it personally," She laughed a little.

I smiled more. "Thank you. It means a lot." It did mean a lot. I felt so... cared for. By Callie. It was nice.

"Can I give you a hug?" Callie asked.

I nodded, leaning forward and hugging her.

Moving in was a good step.

Callie was a great person.
