"Hey, Drake."
"Hi, Josh. How was football practice?" Drake asked, not looking up from his position on the couch.
"It wasn't too bad, except the heat is killing me! And we've got to run 2 miles to a big tree every practice!" Josh exclaimed.
"Really?"
"Yeah. I just wish the tree weren't there! Then, since the tree wouldn't exist, we wouldn't have to run to it anymore!"
"Oh, really?" Drake asked, finally looking up.
"Oh, no, Drake, don't you dare!" Josh said, seeing the look on his brother's face.
"Come on! You wouldn't have to run two miles anymore!"
"That doesn't matter! I'm not cutting down the tree! That's wrong!" Josh shook his head.
"Yeah, you're right." Drake replied.
That night, when Josh was sleeping soundly, Drake crept out of their room.
"Ready, Megan?" Drake asked, tapping gently on her door.
"I'm ready, boob. Have you got your car keys?"
"Yep. Come on, before Mom and Dad wake up." Drake whispered back.
"I'm coming! And if you tell me to hurry one more time…"
"Something really, really, really bad is going to happen to me, right?"
"Correct." Megan replied. She and Drake snuck out of the house, and Drake drove them to the football practice field.
"Do you know which tree it is?" Drake asked.
"What a boob." Megan muttered to herself.
"What?"
"Nothing. Did you notice there's only one tree?" She pointed out. "This is a football field, Drake, not a forest."
"Uh, right." Drake said. He got the saw from his car and the two started towards the tree.
Josh went to practice the next day. They were all lined up and ready to run when Josh noticed the tree wasn't there.
Oh no, Drake's cut down the tree, Josh thought, inwardly groaning.
"Well, it seems a couple of smart kids thought if they cut down the tree they couldn't run to it." The coach said, "But since you can't run to the tree, you'll have to run to the river. To prove you did that, you'll each get a cup and have to get water from the river and bring it back." Josh inwardly groaned again. This was all Drake's fault. Now, instead of running two miles in the heat, they'd have to run 3 ½!
Drake was stretched out on the sofa watching TV when Josh got home.
"I can't believe you!" He exclaimed as he walked into their room.
"What?"
"You cut down the tree!" Josh glared at Drake.
"I was helping you!" Drake defended.
"Yeah, you "helped" so much the whole team had to run 1 ½ miles extra!"
"Oh." Drake said, looking away from Josh.
"Yeah, "oh". I told you not to!"
"I was only trying to help!" Drake retorted.
"But you didn't! And that's not the point! You didn't listen to me, and look what happened!"
"Listen, Josh…"
"No! You listen! That's what got you in trouble the last time! You didn't listen to me! Just for once take my advice! It might do you some good. And of course, I had to pay for what you did! That's not right. It's just not right."
"Look, Josh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you run an extra 1 ½ miles! I was trying to make it so you wouldn't have to run at all! I was trying to help you!"
"Yeah, yeah you're right. You didn't know any better. Sorry I blew up on you. Just, next time listen to my words."
"Huh?" Suddenly Drake's eyes widened. "Oh, ohh, I know! We could fill in the river!"
Josh looked at Drake with disbelief. He hadn't even listened.
"Oh yeah, and guess what's after that?"
"What?"
"The mall. And what are you gonna do, burn that down? Well, gues what's after that? The airport! And at that point, I'm booking you a one-way ticket to the heart of the Bermuda Triangle."
