Today was the day. The moving truck had just left. We were 'moved in'- all our boxes were in the apartment.
April 24th.
I felt a little nervous. I was also excited, though. Mom and Callie's extreme excitement was rubbing off.
Luckily, we had a couch and a dining room table already set up. So, we were all three sitting on the couch, boxes surrounding us.
"I think first priority is rebuilding the bed frames. Then bathrooms and bedrooms? At least the essentials." Mom said.
"Definitely." Callie sighed, leaning into the couch. "Where do we wanna start?"
"Olive's room?" Mom looked between Callie and I.
I nodded my agreement. I didn't mind where we started. It would all get done- eventually.
Moving was exhausting. Especially with this much stuff. Bringing all those boxes from the parking lot all the way to the apartment took a lot of energy.
But, we managed to get my bed frame built, and my whole bed was set up soon after.
We ended up just moving a lot of the boxes into my room that belonged to me- I didn't have that many. The majority of it was clothes.
Mom and I lived up to our bragging about being able to build stuff, as we also easily built Mom and Callie's bed.
We did the same for their room- set up their bed, and then moved all the boxes in. They had a lot more, since it was both of them.
Mom and Callie had gone for a theme in their room. Tans and browns. Unlike Mom- she liked colors. But, it was nice. Their comforter was a light beige, and their bed frame was dark brown.
I kept my bed frame from the other apartment- it was white. I didn't need a new one. I didn't really know if I would have a 'theme' for my room.
I kind of just planned on leaving it. I wasn't sure.
"Ok. Wow. It's already been three hours." Mom sighed. "This is progress, though. At least we have somewhere to sleep."
"You two are like professionals. I remember having to call all my friends to help me build my bed frame when I moved into my old place." Callie laughed.
"Power duo." Mom laughed, smiling at me.
I nodded.
"We really need to find the boxes with toiletries. I don't know where they could be." Callie said after a few moments.
"I can go look again." I offered.
"Sure!" Mom nodded.
So, I headed out to the living room, where most of the boxes were stacked by the sliding door.
"I can't believe it finally happened. We live together!" Mom said.
"I'm so happy. We have a lot of unpacking, though." Callie said with a laugh.
"I'm tired." Mom sighed and giggled.
"You can totally take a nap." Callie offered immediately.
I smiled when I heard that. She was so nice to Mom.
Then, I looked back down and saw the exact box I needed. Lucky.
"Guys! I found it!" I called out.
Callie popped out of the doorway to their room. "You did?!"
I nodded, lifting it up.
"Ooh you're the best!"
I laughed, "It was all the way in the back. Of course."
I set the box on their bed and opened it up.
"Yay we can brush our teeth and shower tonight!" Mom said, making both Callie and I laugh. "Perfect. Now we can set up our bathrooms. With the essentials at least."
I looked for the two bags that I put all of my stuff into. "I'll be back." I told them, going off to put it in my bathroom.
My bathroom. That was so weird to say.
Technically, I had my own bathroom. That was pretty cool.
I didn't have a shower curtain yet, so I just set all of my soaps on the ledge of the tub, and laid my flat iron, toothbrush, hairbrush, and everything else on the counter. I didn't have any idea of where I would want things to go yet.
This was a lot more space than I was used to.
It was new. I had to adjust.
I split the rest of my afternoon between helping Mom and Callie, and unpacking some of my stuff. Mostly my clothes. I had kept my hangers, so it was a matter of hanging things again, and refolding my pants, as they had gotten messed up in the boxes.
Though a simple task, it was rather time consuming.
Mom and Callie were both really happy. Mom's smile never left her face.
I was glad she was so excited. This was good for her. And, I think it will be good for me, too.
Later into the evening, we all met in the kitchen.
But, we had no food.
"Hm. I can run out to Target? We need some groceries, and things like shower curtains, ya know." Callie spoke up.
"Yeah. We definitely need groceries. I can stay and start to unpack the kitchen?" Mom suggested.
"If you want. You don't need a break?"
"No, I wanna get it done," Mom laughed.
"Alright." Callie looked at me. "You wanna come with me? Maybe we can start to look for some decorations for your room, too."
I nodded quickly at that, "Sure!"
"You also need some sort of organizers for your bathroom. Something for your soaps. And something to hold your toothbrush!" Mom added, also looking at me.
"Yeah, I do."
"Add it to the mental list. You ready to go now?" Callie asked me.
"Yup!"
"Oh. And for dinner. What should we do, Ari?"
"I can call in an order at the pizza place to pick up? Do you guys feel like pizza?"
I zipped up my sweatshirt. Even though spring was here, I knew it would be a little cold outside.
"I'm fine with whatever." I shrugged. I didn't mind.
"Pizza sounds good." Callie agreed.
"Alright. Topping suggestions?"
"Whatever you'd like." Callie said sweetly.
Kinda cringey, though. I giggled. "I don't mind."
"Wow. Very easy." Mom laughed. "I'll let you know when I call it in."
"Perfect! Let's go, Liv!" Callie smiled.
Mom walked around the island, hugging me tightly.
"Have fun, I love you."
"I love you too, Mom."
Then she and Callie kissed. I figured I would be seeing a lot more of that. Whatever.
"I love you," Mom said.
"I love you too." Callie replied, smiling brightly.
With that, Callie and I headed off to Target.
