With the threat of Summer came an insane amount of heat. It was crazy hot outside.

Personally, I was thanking everything I could for the fact that our complex had a pool.

When I got of school, Mom and Callie were home and waiting for me- today it was hot. We had planned on going to the pool when I got home.

So, that was exactly what we did.

We got insanely lucky when seeing no one was there. Though, it wasn't surprising. It was two in the afternoon in the middle of the week. Everyone was probably working. I was sure it would get busy very quickly within a few hours.

Mom and Callie were both quick to get into the pool, but I still needed to put on sunscreen. So I stayed by our towels, my back to the pool, rubbing sunscreen all over my exposed skin. I was in no way wanting to get burned. And, I burned rather easily. I got that from Mom. Very fair skin- easy to burn.

I heard both of them giggling, and some splashing behind me. When I finally turned around, I saw way too much.

Mom was kissing Callie. A lot. Right up against the pool wall. I squeezed my eyes shut.

"You guys are actually gross." I said loudly, reminding them that I was there, incase they had forgotten. They must've forgotten. Because. Oh my god. Like I said, way too much.

Mom pulled away quickly, and Callie turned bright red.

"Could've gone my whole life without seeing that." I commented as I went down to the shallow end, where the steps were to get in.

"Sorry!" Mom yelled out. "Come on. Jump in. It's warm!"

"I think I'm gonna stay over here for a while. Let the air cool down over there," I teased, making light of the rather awkward situation. That was one thing I liked. I could always just play it off as a joke. Mom was young and usually cool about that kind of stuff. At least I could joke about it rather than having it forever burned into my brain as something totally gross I saw.

Mom rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out. "Dramatic" She said in a sing-songy voice.

Callie moved further away from Mom, clearly a little embarrassed.

I watched as Callie turned, and noticed a tattoo on her back. I scrunched up my eyebrow.

It was a beautiful tattoo. A large rose. It took up most of the space between her shoulder blades.

The ink was black and red- very pretty.

"Callie!" I called out from my spot across the pool, excited by this new information. I already knew Callie was cool. But, there's cool, and then there's having a tattoo cool.

I think my inner art geek is showing. Tattoos are some of the most beautiful art pieces. As soon as able to, I've already decided I'm getting one. I am obsessed with tattoos.

She turned around.

"You have a tattoo?!" My smile was big, I could see my cheeks if I looked for them. I was excited.

She smiled, "I do!"

"You didn't know that?" Mom tilted her head.

"Mom. I don't even want to think about how you know that." I blurted out. I giggled the second I said it. I hoped I hadn't made it awkward- but, that was a pretty funny joke, if I do say so myself.

"Olivia Rae!!" Mom covered her mouth to stop herself from laughing. It didn't work, she laughed too. Like I said, funny joke. Mom and I have the same-super weird- humor.

I started walking closer to them, as I was pretty far.

"I have three, actually." Callie completely ignored my comment. I figured it made her a little more uncomfortable than it made Mom. Mom knew I was totally kidding, Callie, probably not. She would catch on to my humor eventually, though.

"You do?!" That made me even more excited. Three. That's awesome.

She laughed, "I do. The one on my back, then I have my ribs, and one on my thigh." She explained.

I walked until I was at the wall of the pool and leaned against it, a few feet from where Callie and Mom now were, listening intently. "Doesn't the rib cage like hurt the most?!" I had done my research. I knew the most and least painful tattoo spots. And, the rib cage was supposedly one of the worst.

"It wasn't that bad."

"Do you have a high pain tolerance though?" I tilted my head.

"I guess so." Callie shrugged. "I mean, I'm not gonna say it didn't hurt. It just wasn't an unbearable pain, you know?"

I nodded slowly.

"But, it was totally worth it!" She was wearing a bikini, so she turned to show me her rib cage.

I was wondering how I had never noticed these before.

I guess they're kinda in places that aren't shown much in the winter, though.

The tattoo on her rib cage was one of those black line work type things of a woman's body. It was gorgeous.

"That's really cool." I said, smiling. I loved it. Something like that was on my (very long) list of tattoos I potentially wanted to get.

Mom and Callie were standing right next to each other, a few feet away from me.

"I drew Mom a tattoo." I said after a minute, causing Mom to immediately smile at me. "But she hasn't had a chance to get it yet."

"Really?" Callie looked between Mom and I.

Mom nodded a little.

It had been well over a year since I drew it up. But, with everything that happened, Mom had to wait.

"What is it?" Callie asked.

"Olive's baby foot print!" Mom had her arms wrapped around Callie, and was smiling brightly at her.

"I sketched it! And then I wrote my name- Olivia Rae Robbins- in cursive around the left, on the inside." I explained.

"It's so pretty." Mom exaggerated.

"That's really cute! Where do you wanna get it? I didn't know you wanted a tattoo." Callie looked at Mom.

Mom pulled away from Callie, holding out her left arm and twisting it, showing the side of her arm. "Right here. Like... three inches tall, probably. Nothing crazy- big enough to read her name, though."

"That would look great! That's a good spot, too!" Callie said.

"That's what I said!" I agreed.

We stayed on the topic of tattoos for a while. It was a form of art I didn't get to talk about a lot- I was beyond excited. I thought it was crazy cool that Callie was so into it, too. It was something we had in common.
