Liv: I'm not kidding
Liv: She's been so weird
Isa: That's awkward
Isa: Maybe you're overthinking. You do that a lot.
Liv: I don't!
Isa: Totally do
Liv: Ugh. Whatever
Isa: I win :)
Isa: I'm sure it's fine Liv.
I sighed. Isa was right. I do overthink.
I think it is something I acquired from Mom. So, thanks Mom.
But, I wasn't being too dramatic. Callie was being so weird. She seemed nervous, almost. And it was like she was avoiding having super long conversations.
I don't know. Maybe I was being a little dramatic.
It was just weird. Not like her. She was usually calm and collected. Not frantic and just... weird.
Like, right now.
Mom was at work, Callie and I were on the couch. She started her 24 soon, so we were just watching tv.
But, usually she would be talking to me. She was just sitting here, rubbing her hands together. Being weird.
I can't help but wonder if it's something about living with us.
I mean, we have lived together for a while now. It's the beginning of June- we moved in at the end of April. It would be a little weird for her to just now have second thoughts. But, it was possible.
I mean, last time we had lived with someone 10 years and then he decided he didn't want to.
I had to stop relating the two.
Callie was nothing like him. At all.
Callie loved Mom.
He never did. He was mean and rude and hurtful.
It was a completely different situation.
Callie stood up. "I'm hungry. Are you hungry?"
"A little."
"I'll make us lunch. What do you want?"
"I can make something." I didn't want to make her do that. Especially because she was already acting odd.
"What? No. How about I make us sandwiches?"
"You sure?"
"Of course! What do you want? Turkey? Ham and cheese?" She walked toward the kitchen. "What else do we have in here..."
"Whatever is easiest."
"Ooh! We have grilled chicken from last night. Chicken Bacon Ranch wraps? That sounds so good right now."
"That does sound good. Do you need help?" I felt bad.
"No! I've got it Liv." She smiled, and then started doing her thing.
I watched her, and then went on my phone. My mind was racing with anxiety.
She was still being nice. It couldn't be that she was mad.
I would know if she and Mom were fighting.
They totally weren't.
I just couldn't figure out what it was, but I knew something was up.
It was bothering me to no end. I wanted to know if it was me. If I was doing something wrong or if Callie didn't like that I was always home now.
It's summer. I can't control that. But, the thought still crossed my mind.
Maybe that was it. That kinda made sense.
When we first moved in, I was barely home because of school.
Callie works weird hours, she was home alone a lot during the school year. Now, I'm home too. So, a lot of the time it has been just us.
Maybe she didn't like that.
No. That can't be it. Callie is too nice to feel that way.
I bit my cheek. I wanted so badly to get to the bottom of this.
But, I knew I was overthinking, too.
It was quite possible I made a big deal out of nothing.
That would be very on-brand of me.
"Do you want some veggies on the side? We still have the veggie platter, too." Callie said.
"If you want."
"Why not!" Callie opened the fridge.
I looked back at my phone until she came over and gave me a plate. "Thank you!"
"Of course." She smiled, sitting down.
"Mom should be home soon, I think. Unless she has to stay longer like yesterday."
Callie took a deep breath. "Yeah, yeah she should be." She said quickly.
"Is something up with you and Mom?" I asked.
"What? No." Callie laughed.
"Why do you seem off?" I couldn't not ask.
"Off? I'm fine." She lifted up her wrap.
I rose an eyebrow.
"I swear, Liv!" She laughed again.
"Ok." I shrugged, taking a bite. "This is so good." I mumbled with a full mouth.
"Aw yay!" She smiled, then took a bite for herself. "Mm it is good. Just what I needed before a 24."
I giggled.
Callie is a really good cook. She loves cooking as much as Mom does, so they cook together a lot.
Either way, dinner is always really good.
Even just throwing a wrap together, she managed to make it taste amazing.
That was one of the many things I appreciated about her.
We finished eating in silence, mostly because Callie had to eat fast. She had to get ready for work afterwards.
At least she said nothing was up. I mean, she could be just saying that. But, maybe I really was over-exaggerating.
Maybe she was just in a weird mood.
I dunno.
Mom got home just before Callie was leaving, and they hugged and kissed and said they would miss each other.
Lovey dovey. Weirdos.
I'm kidding, it's cute that they love each other so much.
After Callie left, Mom opened the fridge. "Awww!" She said.
"What?" I turned around.
"Callie made me a wrap! And she left a cute note."
"You guys are so weird." I mumbled. But, that was nice of Callie.
"Chicken Bacon Ranch. Yum."
"Oh she must've made you one too. We had that for lunch. It was so good."
Mom smiled. "That's so sweet. I'm gonna text her."
I rolled my eyes playfully, leaning back against the couch.
Mom got her phone, her smile wide and her eyes bright as she thanked Callie for the surprise, and then she sat at the island and ate.
"Oh it is really good." Mom said.
I giggled. "Callie makes good food."
"She does!" Mom smiled more when I said that.
"Has she seemed off to you?" I asked, just out of curiosity.
"Who? Callie?"
I nodded.
"No. Why? Is something up?" Mom scrunched her eyebrows.
"Guess not." I shrugged. Maybe it was in my head.
