I was still in bed, but I heard Callie coming home from work. It was late to still be in bed. But, I was home alone, there was nothing else to do.
Then, she knocked on my bedroom door.
"You can open it." I sat up as she opened the door. "Sorry. I'm still in bed."
She laughed, "Don't be sorry. I did the same thing during the summer when I was in high school."
I smiled.
"Can I talk with you about something?" Callie asked.
"Is something wrong?" I started to feel anxious immediately. Maybe I hadn't been overreacting about yesterday.
"No, no not at all." Callie quickly reassured.
"Are you sure?"
"I'm positive." She sat down at the end of my bed. "I don't really... know how to say this." She rubbed her hands together.
I bit my cheek.
"I uh..."
"You're worrying me." I whispered.
"No, no Liv there's nothing to worry about," Callie smiled. "I promise." She patted my leg.
"Ok." I nodded a little. Though, I was still a little bit worried.
"So," Callie took a deep breath. "You know, I love your Mom. Very much."
"But?"
"There's no but!" Callie laughed. "I really love her."
"Oh. Well, she loves you too." I giggled.
Callie laughed some more. "I've been thinking for a while... I think. No, I know that I would love to ask her to marry me-"
I gasped. "Oh my god."
"I- I wanna know what you think. Because, well, I know this is big. Not only for us but for you, too. And I want to make sure you think it's a good idea, before I ask her."
"Oh my god." I said again.
Callie smiled, "What do you think?"
"Um, yes. Do you know how happy she would be? I think that's amazing!"
Callie's eyes lit up.
I was crazy excited. I knew Mom would love that. I knew by now that they really weren't moving all that fast. They were in love.
I was totally over the 'moving too fast' thing. Plus, them being married wouldn't be that big of a change. We already live with Callie.
I was simply happy.
Callie was a good person through and through. Mom deserved this.
"Have you bought a ring?" I asked after a few moments.
Callie shook her head. "I wanted to ask you first. And, I need a favor."
"Ooh what?"
"I don't know her ring size. But if I ask I think that's super obvious. Would you be able to figure it out?"
My smile grew. "Yes!!" I was just happy to be included.
"You're the best." Callie smiled. "You're ok with this, seriously?"
"Duh! This is awesome." I nodded. "You're... you treat my mom good. That makes me happy. And, you make her happy."
"Aw Liv." Callie said quietly.
I giggled. "Not to be too cheesy. It's just... you know, Mom's been through a lot. And I'm happy she met you."
"You're totally going to make me sob." Callie laughed, her eyes filling with tears.
"You're emotional. Like Mom." I giggled.
"Sorry, sorry. That's just... really sweet."
I smiled.
"Personally, I would love for you to be a part of it. You know, help me plan, pick out the ring. If you want to, of course." Callie said after a few moments.
"Wait really?"
"Of course!"
"That'd be awesome!" I knew my smile was big. Callie wanted to include me. She truly is the best.
"I think your Mom would love that. It would make it a lot more special, for me and her."
"Callie?"
"Yeah?"
"Thank you. Really, you're so good to me... and Mom. I appreciate it." Last time Mom was married, it was bad. But, I felt... optimistic? Callie wasn't him. She was... the opposite. I didn't feel scared or nervous about the idea of them being married. Marriage isn't always bad, I've realized.
"You deserve it." Callie said softly.
I giggled. "When are you gonna ask her?"
"Well, after I get a ring, duh," She laughed. "Hopefully soon. If that's ok with you."
"That's more than ok. The sooner the better because I don't know how I'm going to keep this a secret from Mom." I truly didn't know how. I just wanted Mom to know now. I knew she would be so happy. "I won't tell her!" I reassured.
"It'll be soon" Callie said with another laugh, shaking her head in amusement. "Can I give you a hu-"
I leaned forward and hugged Callie tightly. She immediately hugged back. We stayed like that for a moment. Hugging.
I was glad Callie came into our lives. And now... marriage. This was crazy. Crazy in the best way possible.
When we pulled away, she smiled, "Ok... I should probably take a nap. If you need anything you know where I am." She stood up after I nodded, walking toward the door.
"Callie?"
She turned around.
"Can I tell Isa? I need to spill to someone. I'm excited." I said quietly.
She laughed, "Of course you can. As long as your Mom doesn't hear about it."
I smiled, "Duh!"
With that, Callie left.
I immediately grabbed my phone.
Liv: ISA ISA
Isa: LIV LIV
I laughed at how quickly she replied.
Liv: You'll never guess what just happened.
Liv: Callie is gonna propose to Mom
Isa: Seriously?
Liv: Yeah
Isa: Woah
Isa: Is that why she was acting weird?
Isa: Makes sense
Isa: When? That's so cool
Liv: Probably why she was acting weird
Liv: She doesn't have a ring yet but soon I think
Liv: My mom is gonna FREAK
Isa: Awww
Liv: She asked me to figure out my mom's ring size haha
Isa: Ooohh
Isa: This is exciting!
I smiled to myself. It really is exciting.
Insanely exciting.
Which, I'm surprised I feel so good about it.
A few months ago I would have been angry. But, this is good. This is great. Amazing, even.
Mom and Callie are gonna get married.
