Izuku decides to remain where he is for the duration of the interview, comfortably tucked up against Tōya's side, because it affords him the best vantage point to observe Detective Tsukauchi, Aizawa-sensei, and All Might. Focusing on them to gauge their reactions serves to distract him from listening to Tōya recount his past. Hearing it the once is already more than enough for Izuku, and the details are still fresh in his mind from late last night. Or was it earlier this morning? Either way, he doesn't want or need to hear it again.
Aizawa-sensei is the first to bear his scrutiny, his teacher's face blackening almost immediately as Tōya speaks. It is a rare sight, seeing the usually reserved Underground Pro Hero so angry, and Izuku is willing to bet that Aizawa-sensei will go toe to toe with Enji at some point down the road. Maybe not for Tōya's sake, but for Shōto's as he is fiercely protective of his students.
Next is the Detective, and Tsukauchi sports a grim expression as he listens. His Quirk is, without a doubt, confirming everything that Tōya says, and from the way Tsukauchi's jaw remains clenched, it is all true. Not that Izuku doubts the veracity of what he's been told—soulmates cannot lie to each other, after all, but they can lie to anyone else. So he understands why Tsukauchi's involvement is necessary.
Last is All Might, and the Number One Hero wears a horrified expression while his complexion is quite pallid. He looks to be on the verge of keeling over at any second, which isn't helped by the fact that his health isn't the best, but he doesn't budge from his seat.
None of them do, even when Tōya finishes laying out his past for them, and Izuku doesn't blame them. It is a lot to take in and digest, so they spend the next few minutes in silence, and Tōya goes back to combing his fingers through Izuku's hair. It feels nice, and, coupled with the warmth that Tōya's body exudes, he starts to get drowsy after just a few strokes.
"How did I not see it sooner?" Izuku blinks open his eyes at Aizawa-sensei's softly uttered question and looks to his teacher, the anger still present on his face. There's a touch of worry there, too, as he stares at Tōya. "I always thought it was a little strange that Todoroki didn't use the fire half of his Quirk in combat, but then he used it at the Sports Festival…."
"Because I convinced him that his Quirk was his and not Enji's during our match," Izuku informs them in a soft voice as he sits up from leaning against Tōya, and three sets of eyes are suddenly on him. Aizawa-sensei, in particular, is giving him a rather intense look that makes him nervous. "Ah, uh, Todoroki-kun wanted to speak with me after the cavalry battle because no one else had managed to get him to use his fire before, that I had made him break his own pledge because I had overwhelmed him," he explains as he casts his gaze down to his lap so that he doesn't have to meet Aizawa-sensei's gaze anymore. It helps settle the nervousness somewhat, and it makes it easier for him to talk with all of the attention he's receiving.
"He compared the pressure I had put on him to when All Might fought that Nōmu at the USJ and said it had felt the same, and because of that, he figured that I had some sort of connection to All Might." He finds a loose thread to fidget with along the hem of his shirt and uses it as an excuse not to look back up at them. "And that if I was somehow connected to the Number One Hero, then it was all the more reason for him to crush me using only his right side. Not using his left side against me was his revenge on Enji because he saw his fire as Enji's and not his own, and rising to the top without using it would have denied Enji of everything." A frown tugs at his lips as he remembers something else that Shōto had brought up during that conversation, and he stops messing with the thread as he lines the events up in his head. "I think you need to talk to Todoroki-kun…there's something else he brought up, something that their mom had done, and I think it happened after Tōya lost control of his Quirk on Sekoto Peak."
Tōya breathes in sharply, and Izuku takes that as his cue to look up at him, wondering if he has also pieced it together. There is a hint of guilt present in his eyes, which is all the teen needs to see to know that he remembers that part of their conversation from when he had relayed it to him earlier at the hospital. "That…" His voice trails off as the guilt becomes more evident in his expression, and Izuku leans into him again.
"What happened wasn't your fault, Tōya," Izuku tries to assure him, going so far as to reach over and grab his hand. He gives it a gentle squeeze, and smiles faintly when Tōya squeezes back, then laces their fingers together.
"If anyone is to blame, it's Endeavor," Aizawa-sensei states quite brusquely, drawing their attention to him. He is still scowling angrily, but there is still that touch of worry in his expression as he regards them. "I will speak to Todoroki after we're done here. I hope that he will be forthcoming about whatever happened, especially after what you said to him earlier at the hospital."
