Chapter 8
More Trouble
It had been a few months since the party and Reiner and Evelyn started dating. Evelyn hadn't been more happy. Reiner even had a smile on his face at Headquarters more then usual even when Zeke was chewing him out for daydreaming instead of listening. Karina was hesitant at first when they told her, but she knew her son was happy and wanted him to enjoy the time he had before his time was up. Gabi was not thrilled and Reiner and Evelyn could tell. They spent their free times at home enjoying company, sitting on the roof, or out at the ocean. Few times they fell asleep on the couch together or in one of their beds.
Evelyn was sitting at the desk in the nurse station with a pen in her mouth with a far off look on her face. She smiled. Reiner had promised a dinner at one of the cafe's in the internment zone.
"Your daydreaming again." Anita said, coming over with a smile on her face.
"Hmm." Evelyn said, looking at her. Anita shook her head.
"You defently got a good man. You are happy." Anita said. Evelyn smiled.
"He is. I haven't been this happy since I arrived in Marley." Evelyn said. Anita knew she was right. Evelyn had told her what happened after she got back to work and Anita was happy for the girl. "He's taking me out for dinner soon as I'm done here."
"Well you'll defently enjoy that." Anita said. A nurse came running.
"We need help in room 10." The nurse said.
"I got a little time. I can help." Evelyn said, standing up, putting her pen down. Anita and Evelyn head for the room. Evelyn froze in the door.
A man was missing an arm and a leg laid on the bed. Anita even looked shocked. Evelyn came to the bed. The man was shaking. She grabbed his eyelid and opened it. Her eyes widen. The whites of his eyes were red almost fire color. Something wasn't right.
"Where was he found?" Anita asked.
"Soldiers said they found him outside the internment zone." A nurse said. Evelyn looked down his body.
"How did he loose one arm and one leg? Its just not adding up. Only time I've seen this is with my brother and Reiner back home." Evelyn said, looking at Anita. Anita looked worried as well.
"When's your boyfriend going..." Anita started until there were gasps. The mans leg and arm were growing back. Evelyn gritted her teeth, but they were coming in different. It was like magma as they grew back.
"Damn it. I knew something was wrong." Evelyn said.
"Is he a Titan shifter?" A nurse said.
"All the Titans are here in Marley at Headquarters and this is no one I reconize from Paradis." Evelyn said. Anita nodded in agreement.
"Evelyn. Step outside with me." Anita said. Anita and Evelyn stepped outside the room, closing the door behind them. "When's Reiner suppose to be here?"
"He should be waiting now." Evelyn said. Anita looked nervous.
"You've been around your brother and the other shifters more, was that normal?" Anita said. Evelyn shook her head.
"No it's not. It was almost like a fire." Evelyn said.
"It helps you were field medic and very obsubant." Anita said. Evelyn smiled. "Go get Reiner and explain what's happening. We..." Anita and Evelyn froze as screams came and yells came. Evelyn and Anita run to see what was going on when an explosion comes out of the room. Anita and Evelyn were thrown back. Evelyn hits her head on the wall and falls to the ground. Flames filled the room as blackness took Evelyn.
Reiner jumped as windows exploded and alarms went off.
'Eve.' Reiner thought as shouts came from the streets. A guard ran over.
"Report to Headquarters there was an explosion at the hospital. I'm going in to help." Reiner called as he ran for the entrance. People were running out. Smoke filled the hospital. "Evelyn!"
Anita was coughing as she pulled herself to her feet and saw Evelyn laying on the ground not far away.
"Evelyn." Anita said, grabbing her friend and tried to drag her out. She heard Reiner's shout and looked to see Reiner looking for Evelyn. "Reiner. Here!" Reiner turned and saw Anita through the smoke and flames. He ran towards her and saw Evelyn unconsious.
"What happened?" Reiner asked.
"She hit her head when the explosion happened. I was about to send her to come get you. I'll explain more outside. Let's get her out." Anita said. Reiner picked her up. He headed out. Soldiers were arriving. Magath, Pieck, and Galliard along with them. Some soldiers brought stretcher towards Reiner and he set Evelyn on it.
"Reiner." Magath said, coming over.
"She hit her head during the explosion." Reiner said.
"I'll go with her." Pieck said. Magath and Reiner didn't argue.
"We're setting up a hospital at Headquarters. Do we know what happened?" Magath said. Anita started explaining everything as Soldiers took Evelyn to the Headquarters about the man being brought in. Magath didn't look happy and Galliard looked like he was going to blow his head off.
"So he is the reason he caused the explosion, but how?" Galliard asked.
"Maybe his whole body was the explosion. When the arm and leg grew back it wasn't like how Titan shifters grow back." Anita said. Reiner and Magath shared uncomfortable looks.
"Is this any chance Paradis sending them?" Magath said.
"Paradis is 100 years behind Marley. No they couldn't. They have a crazy scientist in the Survey Corps, but she could not do this." Reiner said. Magath nodded.
"Go help get the injured and the patients out of there and to Headquarters. I'll send a soldier if Evelyn wakes up. Looks like you'll have to wait for you date night." Magath said. Reiner was surprised Magath didn't mind the relationship between the two long as it didn't pull Reiner away from his Warrior duties.
Reiner and Galliard nodded and went to help with the injured.
Hours later. Evelyn woke up in a unfamiliar room. Her head was pounding. She lifted a hand to her head and felt bandages.
'I hit my head after explosion. How did I get here?' Evelyn thought. She felt a hand in hers and she turned her head. Reiner was asleep with his head on the bed with his hand holding hers. She squeezed his hand. Reiner sat up. He was covered in soot and looked a mess.
"Your awake. How you feeling?" Reiner said.
"I got a headache and I'm exhausted." Evelyn said. Reiner squeezes her hand. "Everyone get out alright?"
"The ones that were in the room with the man died, but we got everyone out. Pieck didn't leave your side till I was able to get away. I'm glad your alright." Reiner said.
"Can you... Can you lay next to me. I don't want to be left alone." Evelyn said. Reiner got up and laid on the bed next to her. He pulled her against him. She laid her head on his chest as she wrapped her arms around him. Both were exhausted. He grabbed her hand and held it. "Sorry we didn't have our date night." Reiner pressed a kiss to her head.
"I'll take a raincheck. We'll go another time. We're gonna have to find out what's going on. You might be helping with you discovering it." Reiner said.
"I'll help with what I can." Evelyn said. Reiner hugged her close.
"Get some sleep, Eve. Magath will be here with the others to get your thoughts." Reiner said. Exhausten was startign to win and Evelyn didn't want to argue. She fell asleep in Reiner's arms.
The next day. Evelyn was sitting up on the bed as Magath, Galliard, Pieck, and Zeke stood around her. Reiner sat in the chair. Evelyn explained everything she remembered before the explosion.
"And it no one you reconize from the Island?" Galliard asked.
"No." Evelyn said. Zeke stroked his beard.
"Is it maybe from one of the other countries?" Pieck asked.
"Possibly. But to experiment on humans. What are they trying to accomplish?" Magath said.
"They know we are weak with two less Titans." Reiner said. Evelyn nodded in agreement.
"I got a feeling that he wouldn't be the last. We should be on alert for more." Evelyn said. Magath nodded.
"They might try to take out Military first or least weaken us. I'm sure Titan shifters will survive the blast, but we don't know that." Magath said. Evelyn's eyes widen. Reiner gritted his teeth. "I'm not willing to take the risk. We'll not let anyone in less we know them. We'll need to warn other countries. I don't see them attacking Liberio. The Tybur family will be alerted."
"Tybur family?" Evelyn asked, looking at Reiner. Magath gave Reiner a nod.
"They are the Marley's royalty almost. They also hold one of the nine shifters, the War Hammer." Reiner said.
"We really want her knowing that? She still might go back to the Island and tell everyone." Galliard said.
"She's been here over a year and we've had no issues with her trying to escape or leaving. I think she needs to know. She's involved now." Magath said. Galliard didn't look happy. "Let's head back to my office. Reiner. Your needed to come with. Pieck can stay with Evelyn." Reiner didn't seem to want to leave.
"Go. I'll be fine." Evelyn said. Reiner stood up and pressed a kiss to her lips as Magath and Zeke left. Galliard was gagging. Pieck hit him with her crutch.
"I'll be back as soon as I can." Reiner said. He left with Galliard. Evelyn heard a bang as Reiner shoved Galliard into the wall.
"Is it push or hit Galliard day!" Galliard said. Pieck and Evelyn giggle.
"How you feeling?" Pieck said as Evelyn laid back.
"I want to sleep some more. I got a headache." Evelyn said.
"You should be released later today. I'll wake you when you leave or Reiner will." Pieck said. Evelyn curled up under the blanket and let sleep take her.
AN: If anyone saw Iron Man 3. I kind of got the idea from that movie. Trying something new. Till next time.
