Chapter 9

High Alert

The next few days was a whirl wind. Evelyn hardly saw Reiner with him busy and the Military on High Alert with the new threat. He come home late and leave early. Evelyn never saw the city so tense. Gabi, Falco, Zofia, and Udo were stuck at headquarters for safety.

Evelyn felt lips against her head as she laid on the couch, passed out from a nap. She had passed out while reading. She still had a migraine from the explosion. Evelyn opened her eyes to see Reiner above her with food in his hand.

"Your home?" Evelyn asked, sitting up and grabbing the plate.

"For now. I been home for a good hour, but you looked like you needed the sleep." Reiner said. There were bags under his eyes and he looked tired. She took a bite out of her food as she lifted her feet so Reiner could sit down. He started eating his food.

"You look like shit. I'm surprised they let you home this early." Evelyn said. Reiner looked at her.

"Magath is giving us a break. Tomorrow we're meeting with Generals from other nations and I'm to bring you." Reiner said.

"Why me? I'm just an Island Devil." Evelyn said.

"To tell them what you saw." Reiner said. Evelyn nodded. They finish their food and Evelyn takes the plates and puts them in the sink. She felt arms snake around her and pull her against his chest. "I missed you." Evelyn turned around and wrapped her arms around him.

"It's only been a few days and you been busy." Evelyn said. Reiner kissed her forehead. She yawned as the headache was still making her tired.

"Let's get some sleep." Reiner said, pulling her towards the stairs and they head up. Evelyn laid curled up to Reiner's side. Both didn't want to be seperated at the moment. Reiner ran a hand through her hair. "There's talks that they might try and attack Liberio." Evelyn looked at him.

"They are?" Evelyn asked.

"We're not sure, but we got a feeling." Reiner said. Didn't help that they didn't know if any of the shifters will survive the blast and no one wanted to test it out." Reiner said. Evelyn hugged him and he chuckled.

"I don't want to loose you or the others." Evelyn said. Reiner kissed her head.

"I know. And I don't plan to leave here. Come on. Let's sleep. Its gonna be an early day for tomorrow." Reiner said. He pulled her against him. Evelyn laid a head on his chest and soon let sleep take her.

The next day. Reiner and her walked towards Headquarters. Reiner had his hand linked with hers, keeping her close to his side. People were moving fast and some were keeping their eyes out. A soldier stood guard at the door. He nodded to Reiner and Evelyn as he let the two in.

"Your with me that's why they didn't question. The kids want to see you." Reiner said. The kids had been cooped up in the Headquarters after the explosion. They head into the courtyard to see Colt training the kids.

"Evelyn!" Falco called, breaking away from the others. Zofia and Udo followed suit. They tackle Evelyn to the ground. Gabi stood with her arms crossed. Reiner chuckled.

"Looks like you guys missed me." Evelyn said as she hugged all the kids.

"We're cooped up in here. We been training and bored." Udo said.

"You doing alright, Miss Jaeger. Mr. Braun said you took a bad hit to the head with the explosion." Falco said.

"Just had a bad headached for the last few days, but it's starting to fade. Thank you for asking Falco." Evelyn said, patting his head.

"Kids. Back to training." Colt called. Reiner helped the kids up and held out his hand for Evelyn. Evelyn took it and he pulled her to her feet. Gabi disappeared towards Colt. Evelyn sighed. Reiner put an arm around her waste and pulled her towards the building.

They came into Magath's office.

"Hello Evelyn. Did Reiner explain what was going on?" Magath asked as he stood up.

"Yes, sir." Evelyn said. Magath nodded. Magath stood up.

"Let's get the others." Magath said. Pieck, Galliard, and Zeke were already waiting for them by the meeting room. Anita was with them.

The meeting. Evelyn sat at a table. She sat between Reiner and Pieck. It was a huge round table to fit all the head generals. Evelyn sat with her back straight. Some of the Genrals didn't seem happy she was there while others were glaring. She had to bite the insides of her checks. Reiner saw her nervousness and rested a hand on her leg. She looked at him and he gave her a small smile. She returned it. Magath stood up.

"We called you here with an issue that we just discovered." Magath said.

"Only issue we see is that you lost two of the nine titans and still haven't got the Founder back from the Island Devils. Yet you have the one responsible for the loss of the two Titans sitting before us." One General said. Evelyn had to pull Reiner down into his chair.

"Don't. They are trying to push under your skin." Evelyn said in a whisper. Reiner clenched his fists as Magath glares at the General.

"Yes. We lost two of our Titan Shifters. But we brought you together is for another reason. We were attacked by a person that could turn his body into a bomb." Magath said. There was silence in the room. Some Generals looked shock. "Anita and Evelyn here can explain what happened before the explosion." Anita started off and Evelyn confirmed the things. Evelyn still had the memories of the arm and leg growing back.

"Tch. How can we trust an Island Devil. She probably doesn't understand Military Basics." Another General said.

"Excuse me." Evelyn said. Generals heads snapped at her. "I served five years in the Survey Corps on Paradis Island as a Soldier and Field Medic. I've seen people loose their lives because of the Titans Marley sent to us and my brother holds the Founder Titan that you so badly want to claim. I might be here against my will, but I am starting to see Marley as my home after being here for over a year. I don't want innocent lives taken because someone wants to bring Liberio or Marley to its knees. So please. Don't treat me like I don't know jack shit about anything." Reiner squeezed her leg gently. Some of the Generals looked shocked, but one started laughing.

"She's got spunk. Should hand her over to me and we can get the Islanders to hand over the Founder faster." The first General said and Evelyn didn't miss the evil smirk on his face. Evelyn got a bad feeling about him. Reiner shot to his feet with a death glare at the General.

"Braun." Zeke warned.

"You are not taking her. This is not a meeting for you to bargain for someone. This is warning you of the danger out there." Reiner said. The General glared at him. Magath was glaring at the General.

"She's staying here and not going anywhere. Reiner sit down." Magath said. Reiner sat down. He felt Evelyn slip her hand into his. "We only wanted to bring this your attention, because its not Liberio in danger its all the countries."

"How do we not know they are coming from Paradis?" A general not far away asked.

"Padadis is 100 years behind all of us. They don't have the capability to do this." Evelyn said. The Generals went off, but that one General that spoke wanting Evelyn kept eyes on her to the point she squirmed under his stare. Reiner squeezed her hand. The meeting was adjurned and Reiner pulled Evelyn to her feet. Pieck and Galliard were behind them.

"My office." Reiner said to the other two. Reiner pulled Evelyn into the office. Galliard closed the door.

"I didn't speak out of term?" Evelyn asked looking at Reiner. Reiner shook his head.

"No. You were defending yourself. Magath would of said something if you spoke out of term." Reiner said.

"I don't like that General. Something seems off." Pieck said.

"I agree there." Evelyn said.

"Well the meeting was to see if we could see if the culprit was among the countries. There was nothing except that one General, but we can't go accusing him without evidence." Galliard said. Reiner sat down in his desk chair. Stress lines were on his face. Evelyn never saw him so worried.

"We need to figure it out soon or try and stop them before more people are killed." Reiner said. Pieck and Galliard left. Evelyn came up to Reiner and wrapped her arms around him.

"Let's get away for a bit. You look like you need it." Evelyn said. Reiner chuckled. He turned his head and pressed his lips against hers. She kissed him back.

"That sounds nice. We have to wait till this trouble is gone then maybe we can get away." Reiner said. Evelyn stuck out her lower lip. He poked her nose. "You know I can't with what's going on. I promise we will." Evelyn sighed.

"I know. But you look like you need it." Evelyn said. Reiner pulled her into a hug.

"Awe. Aren't you two cute." Zeke said, entering. Reiner and Evelyn glared at Zeke. He had the worse timing. "Reiner. We got to go over some stuff." Reiner groaned.

"After I.." Reiner said.

"Pieck can take her. She's already waiting outside the door." Zeke said.

"He has the worse timing." Evelyn grumbled as she kissed Reiner on the lips. Reiner pulled her against him just to irritate Zeke some more. Reienr pulled away.

"I'll be home when I can and we'll do dinner." Reiner said. Zeke looked like he was going to blow a gasket. Evelyn didn't care as she stepped out and closed the door. Pieck stood smirking.

"Its what he gets for interupting you two." Pieck said as they walk down the hall. Evelyn sighed. "All the Generals are gone. Let's go get some lunch." They head down the hall when screams came from somewhere downstairs.

"No." Evelyn thought. Pieck suddenly grabbed her and slammed her into the ground as the ground where they use to be standing on exploded, barely missing them. Debries hit the wall. More explosions came but they were outside. Evelyn pushed Pieck off her as dust was falling. Shouts from soldiers filled the air.

'What the hell is going on? They attack now?' Evelyn thought as alarms sounded.

AN: Uh oh. Till next time.
