Chapter 10

The Attack

Reiner swung the door open to his office and was out the door with Zeke right behind him. The hall had debree scattered around. Evelyn was coughing as she stood up.

"Pieck. You alright?" Evelyn asked, pulling her friend from the floor.

"Yeah. That was to close." Pieck said.

"Evelyn. Pieck." Reiner called, running over.

"We're fine." Evelyn said as Reiner looked her over. Reiner sighed, but screams fill the air.

"Looks like they are attacking now. We need to get downstairs." Zeke said. Something moved behind them and Evelyn looked. Reiner grabbed her arm and pulled her behind him. A man was pulling himself out of the hole the explosion cuased. His skin was fire red.

"Reiner." Evelyn said.

"Run. Now." Reiner said.

"Get down to the courtyard and get the kids out of here." Zeke said. The man smirked evily. Reiner felt Evelyn grab his arm. "Reiner go with her till you get to the kids, but your going to need to help." Reiner turned and pulled Evelyn into a run around a corner. Evelyn almost couldn't catch her breath as they got to steps. Windows exploded. Evelyn pulled Reiner away before he was hit with shards of glass.

"Stop a minute. I can't breathe." Evelyn whispered. Reiner looked out the window. The city seemed to be on fire.

"Shit." Reiner said. He turned towards Evelyn. She was leaning against the wall. Reiner pulled her into a hug. She wrapped her arms around him. "Get the kids to the ocean and stay there till I come get you." Reiner pressed a kiss to her forehead and pulled her down the stairs, keeping her hand in his.

Colt had the kids inside.

"Reiner!" Gabi called.

"Colt. Go help with getting people out. Evelyn will be taking the kids to safety." Reiner ordered. Gabi didn't look happy.

"We could help!" Gabi said. Reiner shook his head.

"No. It's to dangerous. Just do what Evelyn says and listen to her. Zeke has ordered it." Reiner said. Reiner turned towards Evelyn and grabbed her face in his hands. "Do what you got to do to protect the kids." Evelyn grabbed his hands.

"Stay safe." Evelyn said. Reiner kissed her and went running in. Gabi looked like she was wanted to say something.

"Where we going, Evelyn?" Udo asked. The building shakes. Evelyn gritted her teeth.

"Head for the ocean. Stick together." Evelyn said. The kids didn't question and they ran down the streets. Evelyn saw soldiers pulling people from houses.

'Why attack now? Something isn't right.' Evelyn thought as she kept her eyes out.

"This is riddiculous. We should be helping." Gabi snapped, coming to a stop and crossing her arms. Evelyn didn't have the energy or the time to fight with her.

"Your heard the Vice War Chief. Miss. Jaeger is to take us to safety." Falco said. Gabi glared at Evelyn.

"Gabi for once listen to me. I know you hate me, but haven't I shown the few times that I'm not that bad?" Evelyn asked.

"I still think you shouldn't have been brought here. Plus I don't understand how my cousin fell for someone like you." Gabi snapped. Evelyn pinched the bridge of her nose. The girl was strong willed and hard headed.

"Uh, Evelyn." Zofia said. She looked at the girl, who was pointing behind them. Evelyn looked back and her eyes widen. A woman was heading their way and eyes fixed on the kids and Evelyn. Evelyn saw one of her arms was missing, but was growing back with fire. Evelyn gritted her teeth.

"Run!" Evelyn said. The kids took off running and Evelyn quickly followed. Evelyn kept the kids running. She looked back and saw the woman was gone. A shadown came towards Evelyn from the right. A force hit her and she was slammed through a wall of a building. She hissed in pain in her back as she hit the ground. Screams fill the air.

"Evelyn!" The kids shouted as the woman pinned me to the ground. Damn she was strong. Evelyn brought her feet to the woman's chest and sent her flying off her. Evelyn stood up. People stood around in shock as the woman hit the back of a bar and broke bottles.

"Don't just stand there! Get out and to safety!" Evelyn ordered. The woman came up. Her eyes glowing fire red. The people quickly ran out not wanting to argue. The woman charged and Evelyn blocked a punch. She met the womans blow after blow. Kara grabbed her arm and twisted it. The woman gritted her teeth. The woman was fast. Evelyn brought her knee up and kneed the woman in the stomach.

"We got to help her." Udo said.

"She seems to be holding.." Gabi started.

"Get going to the ocean." Evelyn said, spotting the kids still standing there. She gasped as the lady grabbed her by the neck and slammed her into the wall.

"Your a good fighter. You'll be perfect as a new experiment for my master." The Woman said. Her eyes swing over to the kids. "Along with..." Evelyn headbutted her hard in the head.

"You touch those kids and I'll find a way to kill you." Evelyn growled.

"I'll take you by force if I have to." The woman said, running at her and Evelyn grabbed her and flung her into the wall.

"Who do you work for?" Evelyn asked. The woman smirked at her.

"You'll find out sooner or later." The woman tackles her and reaches for her neck. Rocks hit the woman. Evelyn saw the kids throwing rocks at the woman. "Damn you kids." The woman stands up. Evelyn slips out from under her and grabs a chair. The woman goes to go at the kids and Evelyn brings the chair down on the woman hard. The woman falls to the ground.

"Let's go. Before she gets up." Evelyn said, running out of the building. Her body stung from the fight.

"You alright, Miss Jaeger?" Falco asked as she pushed the kids away from the building.

"You took a hit to the back." Zofia said.

"I'll be fine." Evelyn said as her and the kids kept moving forward. She was on high alert.

"Eve." Gabi pulled her out of her thoughts. "Did the woman want you?"

"She did and you kids as well. Reiner isn't going to be happy about this or Magath." Evelyn said. The kids looked worried.

"We're getting close to the ocean!" Udo called, pointing ahead. Evelyn sighed in relief, but a wall exploded next to Gabi and Evelyn. Evelyn threw Gabi to the ground and threw her body over her. The other kids yell. Evelyn coughed.

"You. You saved me." Gabi said.

"Your family to Reiner and important to him. I'm not gonna have him loose you." Evelyn said, pulling herself up. Gabi threw her arms around Evelyn hugging her. Evelyn was shocked, but returned the hug.

"Come out, Island Whore!" A man called. Evelyn gritted her teeth. "We want to have some fun with you. Not kill you. Just turn you into one of us."

'Where's ODM gear when you need it.' Evelyn thought as she pulled Gabi to her feet. The man came out of the smoke. His face was burning red. Gabi grabbed her arm.

"Evelyn. Let's go." Gabi said. Evelyn saw movement behind the man.

"Hold on." Evelyn whispered. Gabi saw the movement this time. Falco, Udo, and Zofia stayed behind. The man smirked. He charged but the Cart Titan comes out of nowhere and opens it mouth. Before the man could attack a brick hits him in the head and the cart takes him in his mouth, unconsious.

"Pieck." The kids yell. Pieck looked at them. Evelyn sighed.

"Who threw the brick?" Evelyn asked.

"I did." Zeke said, coming out of the shadows. "Pieck get him back to the Headquarters." Pieck nodded and took off running. "We captured a few of the enemies already. Everyone alright?"

"We're fine. Where's Reiner?" Evelyn asked.

"He's helping with search and rescue right now. Can you take the kids to your home for now and keep them for awhile. We got most of the enemy and some are fleeing." Zeke said.

"Yes!" The kids yell. Evelyn was surprised with Gabi as all of them hug her. Evelyn chuckled.

"I guess I can do that." Evelyn said.

"I'll let Reiner know you'll have a house full. Just least till tomorrow." Zeke said. He turned away.

"Don't overwork them." Evelyn called. Zeke chuckled. Evelyn looked at the kids. "You guys hungry?" The kids nod. "Let's get to my house and you guys can help me make food." The kids nod as they head for the home. Evelyn knew this wasn't over and she wanted to help find the people responsible for this.
