Prologue - The Beginning
"Everybody's afraid of something. It only takes a matter of time to find out what…"

Professor Oak was a busy man. He didn't have time for playful antics. He had to work. He had been sitting up in his study for the better part of 6 days at this point, trying to decode the small sample of DNA obtained from the Progenitor. He had no idea how Giovanni even found this, but complied in order to protect HIS life. However selfish this may seem, his life is the most important…
Giovanni was not a foolish man. He was what most considered, ruthless. He was cold, calculating, emotionless, and did whatever he could to strengthen his team of ever growing proportions. Team Rocket was initially just a stock trading service. At the time, a lot of companies were making it big, and stock trading was a very good get-rich-quick scheme. However, after multiple unfortunate falling-outs with partners, his business was broken. With next to nothing left, he resorted to crime. Within a few months, a newly established Team Rocket was formed, completely self contained with its own hierarchy of power, with Giovanni sitting on the top, overseeing everything. His dream was almost at fruition. All he needed was the most powerful Pokemon, to assert his dominance over everyone. Firstly, the Kanto Region…
Lavender Town
I was eagerly waiting outside the Pokemon Tower for his starter. I wasn't waiting alone though, as quite a few other people from the orphanage were waiting patiently for their starter. I was secretly hoping for a Dreepy if they had one, but that was only given to a trainer ONCE. Dreepy are just too rare to find, especially in Kanto. He would be fine with any run of the mill Pokemon. Even a rattata would be fine for him, I loved all Pokemon equally(Except THAT one). He was most fascinated by the ghost type, it was so mysterious, but so god damn powerful. Watching Agatha wreak havoc on challengers who made it up to her with her stupidly powerful ghosts was a sight to behold.
To outsiders i.e. people outside Lavender, the tower was basically forbidden unless you were either really brave or really stupid. I had almost died of laughter when he first heard those statements at the orphanage. That tower was filled with some of the most friendly Pokemon he'd ever seen. All those ghost types were harmless unless you somehow managed to completely piss them off. Fortunately, that doesn't happen as much as it is thought to be. The actually tricky part is trying to catch and get a ghost. "Annoying Lil Shits. JUST GET IN THE DAMN BALL" "OH FOR GOD'S SAKE STAY IN THE BALL" "I swear to god, if I fall asleep ONE MORE TIME"
And others are heard a lot and it can definitely become annoying…
Inside Pokemon Tower
I slowly walked up the stairs and casually waved to most of the Pokemon he could see. After all, it's not like they would come punch me outta nowhere right? RIGHT? Nothing else happened after that, and I reached the 5th floor and walked through the only door there. The first thing he saw was Agatha sitting eerily still with shadows covering most of her face except for her creepy smile. Poke-balls seemed to be floating around her randomly and they seemed to stop as soon as I walked into the room. "Finally, someone came up here, I was getting bored of sitting here. Stupid Oak, forcing me to give out starter Pokemon of all things" Agatha said evilly. I just stood there, staring at her out of either fear or determination. She started again, "What are you doing staring at me? Do you want a starter or not?"
"Yes Ms. Agatha.. May I ask a question?"
"Go on"
"What are the Pokemon can I start with?"
"Wait to find out, child. Firstly, answer my questions."
I replied a faint "yes" a little hesitantly, since I wasn't sure if I would be ready to answer the questions an ELITE 4 MEMBER would be asking about Pokemon..
"Very well, then.. First question, how much would you exert your Pokemon during a training session and what would you focus on? Assume you have a full team of six with all of them close to being fully evolved" Agatha asked.
I thought about it for a long while. A bit too long probably given that Agatha warned me about how long I was taking. After thinking a little bit more, hopefully not too much more that she starts berating me, I gave my answer.
"It depends on how much the Pokemon want to do. If I have a full team, I would probably spend around 5-6 hours training them with my supervision, and they could probably continue working on their own for another 2-3 hours more. The focus would vary wildly, depending on what I think the Pokemon would need to work on. They would also have a say in what they want to work on as well"
"Interesting.. Next Question, How would you . . . . . . "
45 Minutes Later
"Final Question, what do you aim to do for the future?" Agatha had gone back to her eery silence after answering that question. I was stunned at that question. I hadn't really thought of a goal to achieve, I just wanted to travel and explore the vast Kanto region and maybe even more. After, further thinking, I had noticed that poke-balls were slowly removed from the large cluster orbiting around her head. There were 3 remaining from the initial 15 or 20. I was still secretly hoping for a Dreepy, although any ghost or fighting type would be fine. Agatha started aggressively tapping her cane on the ground after me failing to give an answer to the question for about 10 minutes. After no more thought, I just blurted out, "I don't know yet." And sat down as quietly as I could.. Agatha, who was fairly restrained and professional so far started laughing. Although, laughing wouldn't be what I would call it. It seemed more like cackling or maniacal laughing. After about 30 seconds, she abruptly stopped and handed me a poke-ball. I was stunned. "Do- Do I not get to choose which one I want to pick?" "Nonsense. Small children like you would probably just pick whatever the strongest one was and just die quickly. Why do you think I spent all that time asking you questions? You are given a started that should fit you. Now take this ball and leave. This Pokemon should be the best choice for you." I stared at her. She stared back. I was wondering if I should bring up the fact that I would need some poke-balls and some starting cash before I leave, but she seemed to have picked up on that regardless. "Oh, god. I have to give you these things as well. Stay where you are, I shall be back in a few seconds" and she just phased out of existence… Before I had time to process what had just happened, she appeared right there and shoved poke-balls and a bunch of other items into my hand. I stood there and kept the items on my belt and in my backpack. I was then promptly teleported out of the room I was in, and was standing right in front of the orphanage.
At the Orphanage,
I walked inside to see a lot of Pokemon wandering about on the ground floor. Machops, Gastly, Sableyes, Chimchars, etc. were all over the place conversing with their trainer and/or arguing with them. I decided to walk to a secluded area to find out who my starter was.
After reaching my spot of choice, I initially fumbled around for the poke-ball with my started and eventually released it. A Misdreavus popped out. Almost immediately after popping out of the poke-ball, all hell went loose. . . . . . .
Author's Note:-
Hey! This is my first attempt at writing stuff like this, and any sort of constructive criticism is appreciated Do suggest any ideas you think are interesting and I may include them into the story if they are appealing BTW, Ash is the narrator in this story. I'm not used to writing in the third person so… yeah. Ash WILL NOT BE GETTING ANY LEGENDARIES, I have no idea why so many fanfics do this, but legendaries are supposed to imposing and powerful creatures, just giving them to a beginning trainer or even a strong one is nonsensical. Each legendary in this story is a force of nature. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING CAN STAND A CHANCE AGAINST THEM APART FROM OTHER LEGENDS I do have a few plans for this story, but nothing too major at the moment I wanted to try a fanfic with a different starter in a new location since giving Ash stupidly special Pokemon in pallet town where everyone else has normal starters seems kinda bogus. That's all for now. I have no idea when the next one will be released, if ever since I have boards rn, but I might continue if I have some good ideas.
Bye!
