Oh My God, please no one yell at me for how long this took. School and stuff got in the way, plus I just lost my job (it was seasonal XP), so I've been looking for at the moment, so yeah, what are you gonna do? But hey, I got inspired after watching a bit of UtaPri Revolutions, plus I was listening to Aoi Shouta's Single, Himitsu no Kuchizuke, and I was like, "HEY LETS UPDATE THAT FANFICTION OF MINE!"
Now I'm not sure when my next update will be, because at the moment, I'm not exactly sure what the next chapter is going to be about. I'm sure I'll think of something, or if any of you guys have any ideas, please do not hesitate to ask or tell me, I love hearing your guy's ideas!
So here's the next chapter of A Dream Come True, "His Truth to Her".
"W-Where are we going? And who are you?" Mallory demanded once more, her voice trembling once more, her face red from her tears. She was in a white van with Ai's head lying against her lap as the man that had found them drove the vehicle to who knows where. She noticed his appearance when he had found them; he was a rather old man, maybe being around his fifties or so, and he was wearing what looked like a lab coat over a white dress shirt and black dress pants. Who was he?
"A doctor maybe?" Mallory thought to herself as she studied the man from the back of the car, watching him continue to drive. Her gaze shifted from the man, down to the boy that was unconscious in her lap. "Ai, what happened?" Mallory asked in her mind, starting to feel tears well in her eyes again. "Why won't you wake up?"
"You'll find out soon enough." The man said back vaguely, and Mallory clutched Ai's hand in her own; she hadn't let go of his hand since they had left the Academy. She had made sure to text Camus, telling him that she and Ai were going to be longer and get dinner after together in order to buy time, she only hoped it had sounded convincing. She glanced out the car's window to notice that they wee near the outskirts of the city, driving up a large hill to some sort of large facility.
"That's the university." Mallory unconsciously said aloud, looking at the building as it came closer and closer into view. Why were they going there? Maybe Ai went their for his medical treatment? But if so, then why? Why not a regular hospital? As the car turned and parked into a spot, the man turned off the engine and stepped out of the vehicle, before opening the van's door to where Mallory and Ai were. He only stared at Ai as he reached to grab him, but Mallory held onto Ai's hand tightly, her body stiffening.
"I-I'll ask you again, who are you? How do you know Mikaze-san?" The man stayed silent as he glanced at the girl, before his hand began to reach towards her. Mallory stiffened once more, her body starting to inch away from his hand, scared of what he may do. She shut her eyes tightly, not knowing what would happen, when she felt his hand gently rest against her shoulder. She opened her eyes, slowly, to look at the man, and saw his face.
Genuine concern was in his eyes, she could tell, as he looked back at her.
"I'll tell you everything once we get inside. I have to fix Ai first however." Mallory stayed silent as she heard him, her hand slowly letting go of Ai's as she watched the man give a nod, before he took Ai in his arms, carrying him as if he weighed nothing. Mallory quickly got out of the van as she followed the man towards one of the university's buildings.
What building were they in? Everywhere she looked, she could see what seemed to be medical equipment, but it at times looked like nothing she had ever seen before. She continued to follow the man carrying Ai, until the three stopped in front of a pair of doors leading to a room; whatever was inside only the man knew.
"We're here." The man said calmly, shifting his body to push a button next to the doors, as the slid open from the mechanism's push. As the doors opened, Mallory slowly walked in as the man strode in as well, making his way over to the middle of the room, which held a lone medical table. The room was rather bleak looking, the walls being covered by what looked to be metal panels, the light reflecting off of them harshly as Mallory saw all kinds of equipment that she didn't recognize. As the man settled Ai's unconscious body on the medical table, Mallory rushed to the man's side.
"Y-You can help him, right?" Mallory asked, her voice shaking, worry laced in as her hands trembled. She couldn't keep her thoughts straight, the situation out of the blue and terrifying. She couldn't hear his heartbeat, and she was worried to death. The man turned towards the terrified girl, his hard expression softening when he noticed her worried eyes. He gave a small nod to the young girl, glancing at Ai.
"He'll be fine, I just need time. I'll just need you to wait outside." He looked at Mallory again, nodding his head towards the door of the room. "As well, you can't come inside until I say you can, is that clear?" Mallory was silent, looking back down at Ai, but gave a hesitant nod. She still had her doubts about this man; who was he? How did he know Ai? She walked out of the room regardless of her fears, her mind a mess. She shouldn't doubt the man, Ai was the one who gave her his number after all.
"Please, just help Ai." Mallory whispered softly, her voice sore from her crying as she sank to the floor beside the door, huddling her knees to her chest, as she buried her head in her arms.
Hours has passed, she could tell, as the evening's sky had been covered by a dark blanket of stars. Her eyes were struggling to stay awake as the man worked tirelessly to help Ai, but how was he? What was wrong with Ai? What had happened back at the classroom?
...Was it her fault, what had happened to Ai? When he spoke to her, he said something strange, and her heart beat faster at the thought.
"I...I want to know how you feel." He said back towards Mallory once more, his voice in a whisper. Her face felt hot, as she could feel his breath against her lips as he spoke, while Mallory's was caught in her throat. He wanted what?
"H-How I feel?" Mallory stuttered out breathlessly, her voice barely a whisper as she stared at Ai, confused and flustered all at the same time. What was happening? What was happening all of a sudden, why? Why was Ai acting like this? She had never seen him like this before. "A-Ai, I don't-"
Her eyes widened as she saw Ai wince, in pain, hands clutching his chest. He moaned in pain, his eyes straining to stay open as he fought the pain that was suddenly taking him.
"Ai?!" Mallory exclaimed, worrying coming over her features as she saw him in pain. She put a hand on his shoulder to steady him and help him keep his balance, but he moaned out in pain again before he fell unconscious, his weight pushing against Mallory as she struggled to keep him on his feet. Mallory growled as she felt the male's weight fall onto her, struggling to keep straight until she fell to her knees, with Ai against her chest unconscious, his face peaceful, as if asleep. "Ai, wake up. Ai, please! What's wrong?!"
Mallory's body shuddered at the fresh memory as she shook her head, trying to get the image out of her mind. Seeing Ai in pain, it scarred her, frightened her; she only hoped this man could help him, whoever he was. Her head lifted however when she heard a voice inside the room beside her, where the man and Ai were. She got to her feet, her nerves aching from being huddled to her body for so long, but she pushed the uncomfortable feeling aside. She watched, looking through the glass windows of the doors to see two silhouettes. One of them was the man, she could tell, the other was on the table, sitting up and leaning on their arms for support.
"Ai!" Mallory's mind exclaimed, feeling relief and surprise wash over her; he was alright! She didn't think her body would react as fast as it did, but she felt her feet move in seconds as she slammed the doors open, ignoring the voice in her head to not go in, remembering the mans words. She knew she shouldn't barge in, but her heart was overpowering her logical thoughts, her footsteps loud as she ran into the room. "Ai! What happened, are you-"
"Don't come in here!" She could hear the mans voice yell at her, but she already made herself known. Her concerned eyes shifted slowly into ones of perplexity, confused by the scene in front of her. Ai was sitting up on the medical table in the room, his shirt off, his chest exposed, however-
"Nakagawa-san?" Ai muttered, his eyes widening in a look of shock as he saw his student in the room.
"W-Wires?" Her head began to spin as she saw the man holding a screwdriver, and different colored wires in his hand, as well as pliers and other tools set on the medical table that Ai sat on. Ai's chest held wires and small cogs that she noticed were turning, as her eyes fixated on the scene, too stunned for words. She started to take a step forward, but her heart couldn't take it, and her legs gave out as she slipped unconscious, not feeling her body hit the ground.
Blackness clouded her vision, but the faint sound of a voice calling to her made her stir every now and again. Her vision cleared as she opened her eyes, however stopping momentarily as her vision strained to adjust to the bright lights above her. A low groan came from her lips as Mallory's eyes closed again momentarily, before opening once more after they had fully adjusted to the harsh lights above her. Adjusting her hand to lean against whatever she was laying on, she slowly sat up, though regretting it slightly when her head began to pound violently, a headache coming when she felt a hand on her shoulder, having her stay lying down. Her head turned slowly, wincing from the pain of her headache slightly when she saw the same man that had been helping take care of Ai.
"Lay down and rest; you took quite a fall after you fainted." His voice was gruff, but a small hint of relief could be heard as Mallory looked down at what she was lying on, a plush couch in another room of the University. Even after she had fainted, the question still haunted her, who was this man? Was he a doctor? She still had no idea who this man was; all she knew was that he knew Ai, and that Ai had his number. She was suspicious of him due to the few answers he gave, but he was helping Ai, and he had helped her too even.
"I...fainted?" Mallory looked down in contemplation, trying to remember what had happened prior; she had been waiting outside of the room for so long, hours of waiting, and then she had heard two voices in the room, one the mans and the other...
"Ai!" Her voice came out as a gasp, almost forgetting why she had barged into the room. She sat up frantically, turning to the man, "W-Where's Ai? He's okay, right?" Her anxiety and fears were coming back, remembering the state her teacher was in when the man had found them. So many unanswered questions were plaguing her mind, and she couldn't stand it; what had happened back at the school with Ai? Why had he collapsed?
"I'm perfectly alright, Nakagawa-san." She had never been as happy as she was now to hear that same monotone voice. Her head snapped in the direction of Ai's voice, the male a few feet away from the couch, sitting on a chair nearby. His cyan colored eyes stared back into her chocolate brown ones, Mallory's shimmering lightly in relief, glossy as if she were about to cry; she certainly felt like she was going to.
"Ai..." Mallory didn't know what else to say but his name, ease finally washing over her as she could finally take a breath to calm herself; he was alright, Ai was alright. Her headache was slowly starting to die down as she swung her legs over the couch, finally being able to relax when her mind began to process everything that had happened. She had fainted after she had run into the room, seeing the man and Ai...
Brown eyes widened slightly, her eyes never tearing away from her teacher. What exactly had she seen when she had run in? Her mouth hung open lightly, trying to comprehend what she had seen in the room, or what she had thought she had seen. "W-wires." Cyan colored eyes stared back at her, and she wasn't sure if she was seeing things, but Mallory thought she had seen his eyes widen ever so slightly. "I ran in, after I heard Ai, and I saw wires and metal gears...in his chest..." Mallory knew for sure that what she had just said aloud sounded crazy, but she knew what she had seen, in that instant. A rough sigh made her head turn from Ai to the man, looking back at Mallory, a frown adorning his lips.
"...The truth would have to come out sooner then later I suppose, though I would have wished for more time." Mallory looked at the man for a few moments, wondering where he was going with what he was saying. Truth? He looked at Mallory with a serious look, before glancing at Ai. "Ai is not human; he's a man-made android I created with my work as a professor." Any words she was about to say got caught in her throat, her eyes widening at the words the man gave; android? Ai...Ai was an android? Not human? "He was created after my nephew suffered a horrible accident, resulting in a coma. By creating Ai, I linked the two's subconscious together to eventually help him wake up, however something occurred, which prompted in you calling me." Mallory's eyes focused on the man, her mouth hung upon slightly still, but no words coming to her lips.
"You're telling me, Mikaze-san is an...android?" Mallory's voice finally came out, however her voice was in a whisper, trying to come to terms with the information given to her. The professor only gave a nod towards the girl, watching her process everything.
"It's a lot to take in, but it's...all true." The professor gave a sigh after he spoke, almost wishing it weren't, but by the tone he gave, and by Ai's silence, the two were completely serious. Mallory was quiet, before she glanced back at the Professor once more.
"If Ai...is an android, then what happened to him back at the school? Why did he collapse?" That was something she still didn't understand, he was fine, but then it looked like he was in pain, and then he fell unconscious.
"Due to Ai being an android, his systems can short circuit and malfunction at certain times of stress. With his systems, having overloads of intense emotions can cause this to happen, especially with Aine being connected to him. If Aine can't take the passing of what Ai is feeling or seeing, he'll reject them, which would cause Ai to break down or collapse, like he did with you." At first it didn't sound right to Mallory, but if what this man, the professor, said was true, then it must have been. She had to believe it at least, it explained why her teacher was always so...emotionless. He never smiled or put any feeling in anything he said, so when the professor explained the connection between his nephew and Ai, it became somewhat clearer.
But still, Ai wasn't a real person; it gave her chills just thinking it. She couldn't even say it out loud.
All she could think was what Ai was feeling, but after what she was told, she wondered if he could feel anything at all.
A few hours later, the two were silent on the way back to the school. The professor took them back from the University in silence, no one in the car daring to say anything after what had happened. Ai and Mallory were soon dropped off at the gates of the Academy, a few feet away from the Master Dorms where their rooms would be, and where everyone else would be, wondering where they'd been for the past three hours or so.
The chilly night air picked up slightly as the moon peaked behind dark clouds, as Ai simply began to walk back to the Master Dorms, when he noticed the other person behind him ceasing on moving. "Nakagawa-san, it's time to go back." She was silent despite his order to go back to their rooms, still not moving. "You're still thinking about everything that the professor told you." He could tell on her face that she was still trying to process everything; for him it was common knowledge, something he dealt with, but to someone else, a human, it must have been a complex thing to come to terms with.
"If you're an android...do, do you feel anything?" It was something that kept coming back in her head, looking at the cyan hair-colored male a few feet away from her. He turned his body to look back at her, his face holding his blank stare, one that she was accustomed to, but now it felt completely new to her.
"If you mean by touch and other sensory motions, yes. I was programmed with touch, taste, smell, sight; everything a human needs in order to function normally." He stopped for a short moment, his eyes reflecting the moon's light, "If you mean by emotions, I do not. Being programmed emotions is something that the professor could not do, not being feasible or possible with his technology or any that he could obtain." The two were silent between one another, their eyes meeting for a few short moments. "However," Ai's voice was soft when he continued, glancing at the bright full moon in the dark starry sky above the two, "my programming lets me learn and adapt accordingly to help Aine wake up. If I wanted to feel emotions, or even have them for myself...I suppose it's possible, however the estimate of that succeeding is...inconclusive." He glanced back at Mallory for a few moments, the two once again silent as their eyes looked back into one another's, before Ai turned to continue towards the Master Dorms. "Hurry up; the others will want to know where we've been."
"..." Mallory couldn't say anything as she watched Ai begin to walk back, her breath caught in her throat. Ai was an android, made to help wake Aine Kisaragi, an idol that tried to hurt himself, which ended with him in a coma. Her teacher wasn't a real person, and no one else knew but her and the professor, who she had to swear she wouldn't tell anyone. What had she gotten herself into?
"Everything's fine Haruka, I'm just tired is all after today. I'll text you tomorrow morning after your meetings are done." Mallory sent the text and closed her phone, setting it on her desk next to her bed, wiping her neck of any extra water that was dripping from her short hair. She had been in the shower for an hour or more, something she never does, due to her short hair. However she found herself still trying to cope what she had learned of that day. She knew now, after going over it multiple times, and finally started to calm down, however the words that the professor told her before they had left still came back to her.
"Nakagawa-san." Mallory turned as the professor called her, turning on her heel to look at the older man. Ai was waiting in the car to get back to their school, but Mallory could tell that the man had more to say.
"Y-yes?" Mallory stuttered slightly, as the man gave a small breath, trying to calm himself, his eyes glossy for a few short moments.
"I know...I know it's too much to ask of you, even after everything that's happened, but I need you to promise me," he took a moment to swallow the lump in his throat, "please promise me, you'll watch over Ai." Mallory blinked lightly at the professor, her eyes widening lightly. "He's not a real person, but I can tell by the way you acted...you care for him, deeply. He's learning new things everyday, for Aine, and for himself. Please, just watch over him, and help him, it's all I could ask of you."
"..." Mallory swallowed lightly, her hands to her sides as she looked back at the professor, before giving a small nod. "...I will."
"I promised I would watch over Ai." Mallory muttered to herself, now laying down on her bed. He wasn't a human, he was an android. But he was capable of learning from people, he was capable of singing beautiful songs and playing entrancing music; and even if he didn't know it, Ai was able to make her heart beat a mile a minute, short of breath, nervous in every action she did when he watched. She took a deep breath, remembering what had happened that had started all of this, when he had collapsed. It kept replaying over and over in her head, those words he said echoing.
"I...I want to know how you feel."
She understood what Ai meant by those words now; wanting to know how to feel because he did not have the ability to feel. He didn't know what emotions or feelings were, and he didn't know how they impacted people, like when people were happy, or were sad when certain events occurred. She gave a small frown, getting under the covers of her bed. For a moment, she had thought that Ai felt something for her, but it wasn't the case; she was just being a naïve Cinderella, hoping her prince felt for her, what she felt for him. Giving a dejected sigh, Mallory reached and turned off her desk lamp, intent on getting sleep. Despite everything that happened she still had a schedule to maintain, however as she tried to sleep, something kept nagging her at the back of her mind as she tried to sleep.
The professor had said that Ai had collapsed due to an overload of intense emotions. Her eyebrows furrowed at the thought, however trying to still sleep, but the question had already been planed in her mind.
What intense emotions was Ai feeling when he had asked her that question? Confusion over trying to understand emotions? Intrigue in wanting to know her answer?
Or, perhaps, even for a split second, was it...?
