RWBY: REBN – Season 1
Episode 2: The Shining Beacon
On the way to Beacon Academy, a news broadcast was playing and was reported by a reporter named Lisa Lavender, it was about a protest gone wrong due to the White Fang. A militant, aggressive group who wanted Faunus rights no matter the cost.
"Last Saturday's Faunus Civil Rights protest, caused by allegations of unequal pay with Faunus employees in a store was turned violent." Lisa Lavender recounted.
"During this, several of the protestors were injured by the White Fang, alongside various human bystanders on the street." Lisa also remarked.
"What did we do to deserve this? We were just minding our own business and we were attacked out of nowhere. What the hell?" One injured human commented.
"I don't know if the allegations of unequal pay are true but honestly I'm more concerned about what will be done so we can assume that these stores would not do this. Not just in Vale but in any store." One Faunus protestor remarked.
"Humans have done nothing but torture our kind for years. You may think there may be places where equality exists, but there isn't. There is no hope for them, we must take back our position as the dominant race. The time is now for a change. The time is now!" one White Fang member remarked.
As the newscast about the protest was playing we see a girl with a black bow on her head shaking her head in frustration and remorse.
After the newscast, there was a broadcast stating how Roman Torchwick is a wanted man and then Glynda showed up on a hologram sending a message to the students who have been chosen to go to Beacon.
"Hello, and welcome to Beacon!" Glynda announced.
"Who's that?" Yang wondered.
"My name is Glynda Goodwitch." Glynda introduced herself.
"Oh." Yang realized.
"You are among a privileged few who have received the honor of being selected to attend this prestigious academy! Our world is experiencing an incredible time of peace, and as future Huntsmen and Huntresses, it is your duty to uphold it. You have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task, and now it is our turn to provide you with the knowledge and the training to protect our world." Glynda informed.
"You know you can never get over how good the view is." Ruby stated.
"Well… I guess the view isn't for everyone." Yang remarked looking at another passenger.
"Like vomit boy over there." Ruby quipped.
While in the air, a blonde haired guy was groaning with his hand over his stomach and then over his mouth.
Once the ship lands at Beacon we see the blonde haired guy go to the nearest trash can to empty the contents of his stomach. Meanwhile we see a young girl in white, looking at her Scroll looking at a picture of a company. With a worried face, she quickly composed herself with a firm resolve as she went out of the ship.
Once Ruby and Yang left the ship they were both in awe at the Beacon campus. The school itself had a main avenue that leads to the entrance to the main amphitheater. There is a statue in the center with a large circular pond surrounded by a garden of red roses.
"Wow…." Ruby and Yang stated in unison as they saw Beacon Academy.
"The view from Vale has nothing on this." Yang commented.
"Oh my gosh, cuz! That kid's got a collapsible staff! And she's got a fire sword!" Ruby noticed, geeking out over the cool weapons.
"Easy there, cousin. They're just weapons!" Yang reminded, calming Ruby down.
"'Just weapons'? They're an extension of ourselves! They're a part of us! Oh, they're so cool!" Ruby explained still smiling with enthusiasm.
"Well, why can't you swoon over your own weapon? Aren't you happy with it?" Yang remarked.
"Of course I'm happy with Crescent Rose! I just really like seeing new ones. It's like meeting new people, but better..." Ruby answered, taking out her scythe in rifle form.
"Ruby, come on, why don't you go try and make some friends of your own?"
"But... why would I need friends if I have you?"
"Come on Ruby, look if you are having trouble making friends just try to put yourself out there. Be yourself and don't care what other people think about you. Just go with the flow and really get in the moment. You can't go wrong with that." Yang advised.
"I don't know…well..." Ruby started to say.
Before Ruby could say anything a group of students came around to find Yang as they greeted her and then recognized Ruby.
"Hey Yang it's been a while." said a guy named Coby.
"Coby how have you been doing. I see Levi with his new look." Yang responded with a hug.
"It's nothing really. Levi responded somewhat embarrassed.
"It's nice to see you again. I can't believe that we are going to the same academy." Nick stated.
"Yang!" a girl named Terra screamed in joy in a hug. "Ruby look at you, you grown so much I can't believe you are going to Beacon alongside your cousin."
"Hey guys." Ruby responded.
"Come on, Yang we have so much to catch up on." Levi reminded.
"I don't know, Ruby could use my help after all." Yang said doubting herself.
"Yang, she'll be fine. Sooner or later you are going to have to let go." Nick pointed out.
"Fine." Yang reluctantly agrees.
"Well Ruby, I guess this is it. Just remember what I said and you'll be fine. See you later, bye!" Yang remarked leaving with her friends.
"Wait, where are you going?! Are we supposed to go to our dorms? Where are our dorms? Do we have dorms?" I don't know what I'm doing..." Ruby stated falling over a carrier of luggage while trying to carry both her bags and Yang's bags.
After Ruby knocks over the luggage, the girl in white named Weiss came over to Ruby, upset about what happened.
"What are you doing?!" Weiss snapped.
"Uh, sorry." Ruby apologized.
"Sorry?! Do you know what damage you could have caused?" Weiss scolded.
"And you guys, why didn't you just take my bags straight inside instead of it going along in the common area?" Weiss commented.
"Uhhhh." Ruby uttered holding a case.
"Give me that!" Weiss said snatching the case away from Ruby. "This is Dust, mined and purified from the Schnee quarry."
"Uhhhh..." Ruby barely managed to say inhaling the Dust.
"What are you, brain-dead?" Weiss questioned holding out a vial of red Dust. "Dust! Fire, ice, electricity!"
"I…I know…" Ruby replied coughing as the Dust particles surround her, feeling a slight burning sensation
"Are you even listening to me? Is any of this sinking in? What do you have to say for yourself?!" Weiss still scolded.
Ruby, who had been receiving more and more Dust to her face, finally sneezes, which erupts into a full-blown explosion of flame, snowflakes, and electricity right onto Weiss. The bottle she had been holding flies over the courtyard and at the feet of a girl with a black bow named Blake Anderson who picks it up and notices a SDC logo (which stands for Schnee Dust Company) on the side as she reads from a book and looks over at the scene.
"Unbelievable! This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about!" Weiss responded covered in soot that quickly washes away.
"I'm really, really sorry!" Ruby tried to apologize.
"Ugh, you complete dolt! What are you even doing here? Aren't you a little young to be attending Beacon?" Weiss insulted. "This isn't your ordinary combat school. It's not just sparring and practice, you know! We're here to fight monsters, so... watch where you're going!"
"Hey, I said I was sorry, princess!" Ruby angrily tried to apologized again.
"It's heiress, actually." Blake spoke up, entering the conversion. "Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, one of the largest producers of energy propellant in the world."
"Finally! Some recognition!" Weiss smiled smugly.
"The same company infamous for its controversial labor forces and questionable business partners." Blake added.
"Wha- How dare- The nerve of... Ugh!" Weiss remarked in annoyance.
After her encounter with Ruby and Blake, Weiss grabs the bottle of Dust away from Blake and leaves as her servants grab her luggage and also leaves.
"I promise I'll make this up to you!" Ruby yelled to a non-responsive Weiss.
"I guess I'm not the only one having a rough first day…. So what's…" Ruby tried to say as Blake left and then fell to the ground.
"Welcome to Beacon." Ruby stated sadly until a familiar blonde haired guy came up to her.
"Hey... I'm Jaune." Jaune introduced holding out his hand to Ruby.
"Ruby." replying as she stood up. "Aren't you the guy that threw up on the ship?"
Ruby and Jaune are walking down the Beacon courtyard, walking past the fountain and school buildings while they were both talking.
"All I'm saying is that motion sickness is a much more common problem than people let on!" Jaune tried to convince.
"Look, I'm sorry! Vomit Boy was the first thing that came to mind." Ruby laughed.
"Oh, yeah? What if I called you Crater Face?" Jaune jokingly remarked.
"Hey, that explosion was an accident!" Ruby defended herself
"Well, the name's Jaune Arc! Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue - ladies love it!" Jaune confidently stated.
"Do they?" Ruby skeptically wondered.
"They will! Well, I-I hope they will. My mom always says that... Never mind." Jaune responds embarrassed.
"So... I got this thing!" Ruby blurts out as she showed Jaune Crescent Rose.
"Whoa! Is that a scythe?" Jaune asked in shock.
"It's also a customizable high-impact sniper rifle!" Ruby explained.
"A-wha...?" Jaune babbled.
"It's also a gun." Ruby noted.
"Oh. That's cool!" Jaune said.
"So what've you got?" Ruby questioned.
"Oh! I, uh..." Jaune stuttered unsheathing a blade. "I got this sword!"
"Ooooohh!" Ruby replied intrigued.
"Yeah, and I've got a shield, too!" Jaune added, raising his arm, and showing off his shield.
"So, what do they do?" Ruby asked touching the shield.
"The shield gets smaller, so when I get tired of carrying it, I can just... put it away..." Jaune explained by fumbling around with his shield and then putting it away.
"But... wouldn't it weigh the same?" Ruby wondered.
"Yeah, it does…" Jaune said in disappointment.
"Well, I'm kind of a dork when it comes to weapons, sooo... I guess I did go a little overboard when designing it." Ruby spoke giggling.
"Wait - you made that?!" Jaune expressed surprisingly.
"Of course! All students at Signal forge their own weapons! Didn't you make yours?" Ruby noted.
"It's a hand-me-down. My great-great-grandfather used it to fight the war." Jaune remarked. "It even has a name. It's called Crocea Mors."
"That's so cool, my scythe is called Crescent Rose. I don't know why most people don't name their weapons, it adds a layer of personality to them." Ruby remarked, slightly geeking out. "Your sword sounds more like a family heirloom to me! Well, I like it! Not many people have an appreciation for the classics these days."
"Yeah the classics…." Jaune said sheathing his sword.
"So why'd you help me out back there? In the courtyard?" Ruby curiously questioned.
"Eh, why not? My mom always says, 'Strangers are just friends you haven't met yet.'" Jaune responded earnestly.
"Hmm. Hey we're we are going?" Ruby asked, now realizing that they have been walking for a while.
"Oh, I don't know! I was following you." Jaune replied, just as confused as Ruby. "Y-You think there might be a directory? Maybe a food court? Some kind of recognizable landmark? Is, uh... Is that a 'no'?"
"That's a 'no'." Ruby stated.
Eventually Ruby and Jaune make it inside Beacon Academy's giant auditorium to find it filled with people including Weiss and Yang.
"Ruby! Over here! I saved you a spot!" Yang waved.
"Oh! Hey, I-I gotta go! I'll see you after the ceremony!" Ruby told Jaune before going off to Yang.
"Hey wait! Ah, great. Where am I supposed to find another nice, quirky girl to talk to?!" Jaune responded moving away revealing a red-haired girl wearing a Spartan warrior like outfit who has been listening to Jaune the whole time.
"How 's your first day going, cousin?" Yang asked unaware.
"You mean since you ditched me and I exploded." Ruby informed Yang with her arms crossed.
"Well I thought you could handle it." Yang thought to herself.
"Yikes! Meltdown already?" Yang jokingly remarked.
"No, I literally exploded a hole in front of the school! And there was some fire, and I think some ice...?" Ruby tried to convince.
"Are you being sarcastic?" Yang smiled playfully.
I wish! I tripped over some crabby girl's luggage, and then she yelled at me, and then I sneezed, and then I exploded, and then she yelled at me again, and I felt really, really bad, and I just wanted her to stop yelling at me!" Ruby recounted not noticing Weiss is right next to her.
"You!" Weiss shouted.
"Oh Gods, it's happening again!" Ruby screamed, jumping into Yang's arms.
"You're lucky we weren't blown off the side of the cliff!" Weiss continued.
"Oh my Gods, you really exploded." Yang deadpanned.
"It was an accident. What's this?" Ruby responded, now seeing a pamphlet.
"The Schnee Dust Company is not responsible for any injuries or damages sustained while operating a Schnee Dust Company product. Although not mandatory, the Schnee Family highly encourages their customers to read and familiarize themselves with this easy to follow guide to Dust applications and practices in the field." Weiss explained.
"Uuhhh...?" Ruby replied in confusion.
"You really wanna start making things up to me?" Weiss asked.
"Absolutely." Ruby confirmed.
"Read this, and don't ever speak to me again." Weiss instructed, giving Ruby the pamphlet.
"Look, uh, it sounds like you two just got off on the wrong foot. Why don't you start over and try to be friends, okay?" Yang requested, defusing the conflict.
"Yeah! Great idea, cuz!" Ruby agreed throwing away the pamphlet. "Hello, Weiss! I'm Ruby! Wanna hang out? We can go shopping for school supplies!"
"Yeah! And we can paint our nails and try on clothes and talk about cute boys, like tall, blond, and scraggly over there!" Weiss sarcastically remarked, pointing to Jaune.
"Hm?" Jaune muttered as he heard his name.
"Wow, really?!" Ruby wondered.
"No." Weiss coldly reacted.
Meanwhile, Professor Ozpin has come up to the stage and to him microphone. The students quieted down as they saw Glynda Goodwitch's stern glare as she stood beside Ozpin.
"I'll... keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. This evil you are fighting against are relentless and deadly. Only the best of the best can protect the people from this threat, and those who are not will see lives taken away from them, potentially their own. I expect nothing short of excellence. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose, direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step." Ozpin spoke.
"You will gather in the ballroom tonight. Tomorrow, your initiation begins. Be ready. You are dismissed." Glynda added.
"He seemed kind of... off." Yang noticed.
"It's almost like he wasn't even there." Ruby commented.
"I'm a natural blond, you know!" Jaune remarked to Weiss as she facepalms.
The camera pans up to a skylight showing the sun, then it changes to the moon as the camera pans down to see sleeping bags shifting attention to Ruby and Yang.
"It's like a big slumber party!" Yang pointed out.
"I don't think your dad would approve of all the boys, though." Ruby said, working on something.
"I know I do." Yang remarked suggestively as she looked at the muscular shirtless guys….and then Jaune. "What's that?"
"A letter to the gang back at Signal. I promised to tell them all about Beacon and how things are going." Ruby disclosed.
"Aw, that is so cute." Yang expressed
"Shut up! I didn't get to take my friends with me to school! It's weird not knowing anyone here!" Ruby stated in frustration.
"What about Jaune? He's... nice! There you go! Plus, one friend! That's a hundred percent increase!" Yang reminded.
"Pretty sure Weiss counts as a negative friend. Back to zero..." Ruby mentioned.
"There's no such things as negative friends! You just made one friend and one enemy! Look, it's only been one day. Trust me; you've got friends all around you! You just haven't met them yet!" Yang optimistically reminded.
The cousins notice a candle being lit nearby, and Blake Belladonna is seen leaning against a wall, reading her book.
"That girl…." Ruby recognized Blake.
"You know her?" Yang questioned.
"Not really. She saw what happened this morning, but left before I could say anything." Ruby explained.
"Well, now's your chance!" Yang stated dragging Ruby towards Blake.
"Hel-looooo! I believe you two may know each other?" Yang asked in a sing-songy way.
"Aren't you... that girl that exploded?" Blake wondered.
"Uh, yeah! My name's Ruby! But you can just call me Crater... Actually, you can just call me Ruby." Ruby awkwardly introduced.
"Okay." Blake said, returning to her book.
"So... What's your name?" Yang questioned.
"Blake" Blake replied, distracted from her book.
"Well, Blake, I'm Yang, Ruby's older sister! I like your bow!" Yang introduced.
"Thanks." Blake remarked, irritated.
"It goes great with your... pajamas!" Yang complimented.
"Right..." Blake stated.
"Nice night, don't you think?" Yang said, trying to break the ice as Ruby laughed uncomfortably.
"Yes - it's lovely! Almost as lovely as this book! That I will continue to read. As soon as you leave!" Blake tried to tell them.
"Yeah, this girl's a lost cause." Yang responded to Ruby, completely oblivious to what Blake is saying.
"What's it about?" Ruby questioned.
"Huh?" Blake spoke in a surprised manner.
"Your book. Does it have a name?" Ruby asked, wanting to know more.
"Well... it's about a man with two souls, each fighting for control over his body." Blake explained.
"Oh, yeah... That's real lovely!" Yang blurted to no response.
"I love books. Yang used to read to me every night before bed. Stories of heroes and monsters... They're one of the reasons I want to be a Huntress!" Ruby spoke honestly.
"And why is that? Hoping you'll live happily ever after?" Blake remarked, laughing a little.
"Well, I'm hoping we all will. As a girl, I wanted to be just like those heroes in the books... Someone who fought for what was right, and protected people who couldn't protect themselves!" Ruby proclaimed.
"That's... very ambitious for a child." Blake replied, remembering when she had big ambitions just like Ruby. "Unfortunately, the real world isn't the same as a fairy tale."
"Well, that's why we're here! To make it better." Ruby affirmed.
"Oh, I am so proud of my baby cousin!" Yang exclaimed as she hugged Ruby.
"Cut it out!" Ruby responded, trying to break out of Yang's hug.
"Well, Ruby, Yang, it's a pleasure to ha- "Blake began to say before being cut off.
"What in the world is going on over here?! Don't you realize some of us are trying to sleep?" Weiss proclaimed, entering the conversation.
"Oh, not you again!" Weiss and Yang said in unison.
"Shh! Guys, she's right! People are trying to sleep!" Ruby spoke up in agreement.
"Oh, now you're on my side!" Weiss expressed, raising her eyebrow in disbelief.
"I was always on your side!" Ruby quickly defended.
"Yeah, what's your problem with my cousin? She's only trying to be nice!" Yang chimed in.
"She's a hazard to my health!" Weiss retorted.
Blake, who rolls her eyes at the fight, simply closes her book, reaches over to grab her candle, and blows it out ending the episode.
A/N: Important Note: My laptop is broken and I am taking it to the store on July 29th 2020. I won't get it back for about 3 weeks, the exact time would be during the week of August 17th 2020 – August 21st 2020. During this time, I will be using a friend's computer, I will try and get more episodes uploaded but I will have limited access to said computer. So if I post much less than usual then you know why. I apologize for any inconvenience, but please understand that I will work as hard as possible to get these episodes posted.
Now as for the actual chapter. Do you like it, is it too long, or too much of the same? There was not much to change from the original episode aside from the White Fang broadcast as the very beginning. Anyway, feedback is much appreciated. Until next time.
