RWBY: REBN – Season 1
Episode 4: The Emerald Forest
The scene opens as we see a view of launched students who landed into the forest using their various landing strategies, except for Jaune who fell aimlessly only to be saved by Pyrrha via her spear.
Then we see some people planning to meet up with each other. However unknowing to anyone we see bushes suddenly grow in size and rock blocking certain paths.
Soon after, the camera zooms out to reveal that the students are being watched on Ozpin's scroll as he manipulates the environment.
Meanwhile, Ruby is seen running to find Yang only to find someone else instead.
"Gotta find Yang! Gotta find Yang, gotta find Yang, gotta find… Yang! Yaaang! Oh, this is bad, this is really bad… What if I can't find her? What if someone finds her first? Well, there's always Jaune. He's nice. He's funny!... I don't think he is very good in fight, though. Ooh! What about Blake?! So mysterious, so calm….. Plus she likes books! Then again, I'm not sure I'd be able to hold a conversation with her….Ugh! Okay… Who else do I know in this school? There's Yang, Jaune, Blake, aaaand…." Ruby internally said to herself.
To her surprise, Ruby found Weiss standing out in the field as she approached her. Both of them looked at each other before Weiss decided to leave.
"Wait! Where are you going?! We're supposed to be teammates…" Ruby remarked dejectedly.
Weiss, travels through the forest, pushing various plants out of the way. She then finds Jaune hanging a few feet in the air on a tree via Pyrrha's spear.
"Come on, come on! Stupid….!" Jaune muttered to himself, trying to break free as Weiss passes him heading towards Ruby.
"By no means does this make us friends." Weiss begrudgingly stated as she garbed Ruby by her hood.
"You came back!" Ruby exclaimed.
"Wait! Come back! Who's going to get me down from here?!" Jaune questioned.
"Jaune?" Pyrrha questioned as she looked up to find him. "Do you have any spots left on your team?"
"Very funny." Jaune admitted as Pyrrha retrieved her spear and smiles.
In the meantime, we see Ruby and Weiss trudging through the forest with Ruby lagging behind.
"What's the hurry?" Ruby asked.
"I will not let my mission be delayed because you're too slow! I swear, if I get a bad grade because of your-" Weiss started to say. "What the…?"
"I'm not slow, see? You don't have to worry about me!" Ruby remarked get up close to Weiss.
"Weiss, just because I don't exactly know how to deal with people doesn't mean I don't know how to deal with monsters! You're about to see a whole different side of me today, Weiss, and after it's all over, you're going to be like, "Wow! That Ruby girl is really, really cool... and I wanna be her friend!" Ruby declared putting her arm next to Weiss.
Ruby suddenly zooms off in a burst of rose petals, which Weiss waves away from her face as she hears crackling and rustling in the bushes around her.
"You may be fast, but you still excel at wasting time!" Weiss called out to Ruby. "Ruby…?"
All of a sudden, the bushes tremble as we see red eyes with yellow pupils. Growling is heard and it gets louder and louder as Weiss starts to worry. The camera turns around as we see the Grimm focus on their target until…
"ROAR!" the Beowolf Grimm bellowed.
"Ruby!" Weiss called out as she saw the Grimm.
Meanwhile, the camera pans down from the sky as we see Yang, walking around the forest.
"Helloooooo? Is anyone out there? Hellooooo? I'm getting bored here! Is someone there? Ruby, is that you?" Yang shouted to no avail.
A low, inhuman growl is heard, and Yang's head rises up as she stares at the creature.
"Nope!" Yang stated getting ready to fight.
Yang dodges and evades the bears and wolves that came out of the green. Activating her shotgun gauntlets another wolf leaped at her only to barely miss. A bear jumps at her, but she responds with a shotgun-powered punch to the stomach. The bear flies back, breaking it's aura as it lays there unconscious. Soon after a wolf swoops in, baring I's teeth to Yang. Then found itself the victim of an uppercut and a kick to the jaw as small clouds of smoke quickly disappear from Yang's gunshots.
"You guys wouldn't happen to have seen a girl in a red hood, would you?" Yang asked as the bears growled at her. "You could just say "no".
One of the wolves pounces and swipes at her twice, Yang manages to evade the attacks.
"Geeez, you couldn't hit the broad side of a ba…" Yang started to insult before stopping.
Before she can complete her insult, a sing strand of her golden hair falls in front of her face and lands on the ground.
"You… You monster!" Yang screamed with her eyes turning red activating her semblance.
Yang is engulfed in flames and then rockets forward and as quick as a flash unleashes a fury of attacks. Her punches connected as punched the bear multiple times with a stream of uppercuts and hard hitting punches. Combined with her gunshots the bear was launched away, breaking all the trees in their path and setting them on fire.
Right behind Yang, the bear she first knocked out came back up try and finish the fight.
"What! You want some, too?!" Yang questioned.
The bear prepares to strike right when a whirling noise is heard and the monster makes a befuddled noise, it is seen to be dead as the copper-colored blood is leaked out of it. After the bear's death it was revealed that Blake Anderson struck the killing blow with her weapon in the animal's back.
"I could've taken it." Yang remarked.
The pair then made their way to the northern end of the forest where Yang is constantly talking to Blake on the way there to Blake's dismay.
Meanwhile Weiss is seen fighting a Beowolf and its army of Newborns as she blocks a slash by the Beowolf. Holding out her sword in her attack pose she plans out her attack.
"Remember your training." Weiss internally thought. "Head up, shoulders back, right foot forward, not that forward. Slow your breathing wait for the right time to strike… And… Now!"
Once she found the right opening, Weiss loaded her rapier with fire Dust and charged right at the Beowolf only to find Ruby already there covered with rose petals with her scythe ready to fight. Seeing Ruby in front her made her lose balance and struck a nearby tree with fire. Ruby then sees Weiss by then takes a claw swipe by the Beowolf and is knocked into Weiss.
"Hey, watch it!" Ruby scolded.
"Excuse me! You attacked out of turn! I could have killed you!" Weiss retorted.
"You'll have to try better than that..." Ruby remarked.
Ruby and Weiss then scan the area getting ready to fight the Grimm. With Ruby reloading her sniper-scythe and Weiss changing the Dust vial in her rapier.
Suddenly the tree fell down to the ground crushing the Grimm in the head and the fire spread to more and more trees.
"We have to go!" Weiss acknowledges grabbing Ruby's arm.
The two manage to make it out of the forest with a huge fire ablaze in the distance, the Grimm leaving if they haven't already been killed.
"What was that?! That should've been easy!" Ruby yelled.
"Well perhaps if you had exercised even the slightest amount of caution with the placement of your strikes, I wouldn't have set the forest on fire!" Weiss snapped.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Ruby questioned.
"I'm just surprised someone who talks so much would communicate so little during an encounter!" Weiss calls outs.
"Well, I'm sorry you need my help to win a fight. I'm just fine on my own!" Ruby defended.
"Well congratulations on being the strongest child to break into Beacon. Bravo!" Weiss stated with sarcasm.
Weiss walks off on her own, while Ruby in a fit of tranquil fury, unfolds Crescent Rose and splits a tree in half and follows Weiss. However unknowing to them a black feather falls to the ground.
However as Ruby and Weiss move forward they both see a gigantic bird Grimm called a Nevermore perched up in a large tree.
"What the- there's a Nevermore!" Ruby noticed. "I thought that there was only going to be Newborns and Beowolves here."
"How do you what that thing is?" Weiss asked.
"Do you not think I know about the different types of Grimm. I am serious about being a Huntress." Ruby explained.
"….Whatever let's just try to get out of there before…. It sees us." Weiss remarked to Ruby before finding the Nevermore.
The Nevermore notices Ruby and Weiss and lets out a shriek before attacking.
Meanwhile in another part of the forest, Pyrrha Nikos and Jaune Arc are making their way through the forest when Jaune hears a strange noise.
"Did you hear that?" Jaune asked.
"Gunfire, it seems some of our comrades have encountered the enemy." Pyrrha responded.
As Jaune and Pyrrha kept walking, Jaune decided to break the silence and engage in some small talk.
"So you used to go to Sanctum Academy, that must have been nice. I heard good things to come out of hat school." Jaune spoke.
"It was… an important time for me, everything I learned about fighting was learned there. And soon enough I was put in the Mistral Regional Tournament and won." Pyrrha recounted.
"But you must have a lot of fun memories there, it couldn't just all about fighting. Sure I know it's a combat school but what about you?" Jaune questioned.
"Oh…?" Pyrrha muttered, seeing Jaune was the first to care about how personal life at Sanctum rather than her achievements in combat. "It wasn't that interesting, how about you."
"Nothing really special, I managed to learn what I needed in terms of combat and I enrolled into Beacon just like the rest of you." Jaune explained simply.
"This is coming from the descendant of famous soldier in the Great War." Pyrrha recognized.
"How did you know?" Jaune replied in surprise.
"I recognized that sword anywhere." Pyrrha remarked.
"Yeah, but it's not a big deal to me anyway." Jaune commented.
"Anyway." Pyrrha quickly changed the subject. "If there was interesting thing that I learned in Sanctum is the concept of Aura."
"Pyrrha, I know what Aura is." Jaune blurted with an eyebrow raised. "It's basically a passive force field that can protect almost everyone from harm."
"That's true, but there is more to it than that." Pyrrha replied.
While Pyrrha and Jaune were talking, we see Ren out in an open part of the forest looking around as he senses the area around him with his Aura. Eyes are narrowed, noticing something in the distance as he hears movement behind him. Soon after a black snake type of Grimm called a King Taijitu sprouted up behind Ren. The monster hisses at him, slithering around the forest. Ren gets in a fighting stance as the Grimm gets ready to attack.
"Aura can be used in many ways, it can fuel our attacks and protect us from harm. But it can also do so much more." Pyrrha explained.
"Yet the monsters we fight don't have Aura." Jaune clarifies.
"Correct. The monsters we fight lack a soul. They are the creatures of Grimm; no one knows when or where they first originated. Without Aura, they compensate using special abilities unique to them." Pyrrha clarified.
As Pyrrha stated this fact, the King Taijitu flailed around the forest like crazy. Ren, in a series of dodges and backflips evade the Grimm until he was struck back by a hit from the serpent's snout. Landing on his feet, the Grimm circles around him. Equipping his weapon, Ren leaped out of the Grimm's circle and shot bullets out of his pistols attached to sickle-like blades and displayed a swift kick to the serpent's snout. Not breaking a sweat, Ren ran and jumped from all sides using his dual weapons to slice the Grimm. Being hard to hit, the snake tried to strike him only to miss and BAMM! Ren's blades pierced the Grimm's head.
"Our tools, equipment, and other everyday objects can be conduits for Aura making them suitable weapons for combat. The possibilities are limitless." Pyrrha added.
"It's really interesting, I knew Aura was a part of ourselves but I never knew the full capabilities of what it can do." Jaune mentioned.
"Some can say it's was sent as a divine gift that allowed humans and other animals survive the Grimm." Pyrrha pondered.
Back in the field, the King Taijitu shook Ren off of its head as it started moving again. Landing harshly on the ground, Ren regained his focus and charged at the serpent, running on its back. With a calculated attack plan, Ren used his blades to slice the Grimm and his bullets to temporarily stun it. The Grimm is weakening as Ren uses his hand to hand combat to deal more and more damage to it. Desperate, it charges, ready to bite Ren as it exposes its fangs. Ren grabs on to its fangs, and focuses his Aura into an offensive position, used his Aura to rip the King Taijitu's fangs showing a light pink shockwave, and throw both of them into its eyes. In a final move, Ren concentrated his Aura into a final punch to the King Taijitu's head. The same light pink shockwave was shown as the Grimm's head was ripped off from the impact, killing it.
"When I was a little girl my mother would read this fairy tale to me and there was this one sentence that always stood out to me." Pyrrha remarked.
"It go like this." Pyrrha began to recite.
"For it is in passing that we achieve immortality. Through this, we become a paragon of virtue and glory to rise above all, infinite in distance and unbound by death. I release your soul, and by my shoulder protect thee." Pyrrha recited.
"Wow, I never heard something like that. Why this sentence in particular?" Jaune questioned.
"I don't know… it just spoke to me." Pyrrha answered honestly. "Anyway let's keep going."
Once the King Taijitu was killed, a second King Taijitu showed up out of nowhere. Ren could vaguely see it coming but it was too late to react. However, Nora came in riding a bear, making a sloth noise, and picked up Ren taking them both to safety.
"I still don't think that's what a sloth sounds like." Ren stated briefly chuckling and then smiling
"Boop." Nora responded as she gave Ren a "boop" on the nose.
Once Jaune and Pyrrha made it to a dark cave, they saw the same brown haired guy from the locker room and a guy with spiky mint green hair there first. "Hello there. Do you think you know where we need to go?" Jaune asked.
"I think there is a shortcut through this cave. Maybe you can check it out." The green haired guy remarked.
"I don't know." Pyrrha thought.
"Don't worry, it will be fine. After all you should get going so you can pass the initiation on time." The brown haired guy warned.
"He's right, come on Pyrrha we need to go!" Jaune reminded.
"Thank you…." Jaune started to say.
"Cardin." The brown haired guy added.
As Pyrrha and Jaune went into the cave, Cardin turned to the green haired guy and smiled. "That was almost too easy."
Once Cardin and the green haired guy left encounter another King Taijitu approach as we see Ren and Nora stun it as the four escape the Grimm.
Meanwhile Blake and Yang finally made it to the clearing that is their destination, when they see a blue haired guy and a dirty blonde haired guy quickly grab something. A ruined temple was there were a set of objects just waiting to be picked up.
"Think this is it?" Yang asked knowing the obvious answer.
"Chess pieces?" Blake wondered.
"Some of them are missing. Looks like we weren't the first ones here." Yang noticed.
"Well, I guess we should pick one." Blake replied.
"Hmm… How about a cute little pony?" Yang picked up.
"Sure." Blake smirked seeing the chess piece.
"That wasn't too hard!" Yang expressed smiling
"Well, it's not like this place is very different to find." Blake said also smiling.
We cut back to Ruby and Weiss as they try to fend off against the Nevermore. Throughout the encounter, the pair's distain for each other slowly started to disappear.
The Nevermore shoots its feather's at the girls and try to bite them as they both tried to defend themselves. Unfortunately, the Nevermore keeps the two from getting to temple.
"Weiss you don't know where we need to go, just admit it!" Ruby called out as they are running from the Nevermore.
"Because I know exactly where we're going! We're going... to... the forest temple!" Weiss half-heartedly stated as Ruby sighed.
"Oh, stop it! You don't know where we are, either!" Weiss added.
"Well, at least I'm not pretending like I know everything." Ruby called out.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Weiss questioned.
"It means you're a big, stupid jerk and I hate you!" Ruby blurted.
"Well if the shoe fits." Weiss retorted.
"That's it! Come on." Ruby commanded. "We are getting to that temple."
"How do you think you are going to do that? Huh?" Weiss asked.
"I said we are getting to that temple!" Ruby repeated.
Then with no second thought, Ruby grabs Weiss as they both briefly transform into rose petals and grab onto the Nevermore as it flies off in the temple's location.
Meanwhile Jaune and Pyrrha are walking inside a cave as they are both unsure of where they are going.
"Jaune, I think that Cardin guy was wrong about this shortcut." Pyrrha tried to say.
"Nonsense, there is no way he would be wrong about this." Jaune tried to justify.
As the two walked further into the cave, their torch goes out and then the air around them gets warmer and warmer. "Do you... feel that?" Pyrrha noticed. "It's… warm."
"Pyrrha look, there's the relic!" Jaune stated going to grab the relic. "Hey! Bad… relic! Gotcha!"
"Jaune?" Pyrrha remarked, her voice full of worry.
The camera then reveals that the "relic" Jaune grabbed is the tip of the stinger of a scorpion-like Grimm called a Death Stalker.
That realization causes Pyrrha to barely make it out back to the cave entrance as the Death Stalker breaks through the entrance. Jaune meanwhile is hanging off the stinger begging for help.
"Help! Whoa-ah-ah-ah-ah! Why?! Pyrrha! He-e-e-elp! Pyrrha, this is not the relic! It's not! Do something!" Jaune pleaded.
"Jaune! Whatever you do, don't let-….go." Pyrrha said, holding her weapon ready to fight.
Unfortunately, Jaune was then flung into the air by the Death Stalker, sent to another part of the forest while Pyrrha was left to fend off the Grimm as she tries to find Jaune.
Meanwhile Yang, Blake, and the two other guys hear something out in the distance.
"Some girl's in trouble! Blake, did you hear that?" Yang commented as she heard Jaune's screams.
"Hey, who is that." Blake said to herself, looking up seeing a tiny speck in the sky.
The tiny speck grew bigger and bigger as a faint scream from above grow louder and louder, only to revealed to be Ruby falling from the sky. "Heads up!" Ruby screamed, as she was falling.
The episode ends as the screen quickly cuts to black.
A/N: Well it took a while but here is episode 4. I had to go through the episodes "The First Step Part 2", "The Emerald Forest", and "The Emerald Forest Part 2" to make this episode so that had something to do with it. Hopefully you like the fights, for some reason it felt more awkward to write this time around. Between personal issues, the factors already stated, and wanting to get the episode just right it was a struggle but I got it done. Thankfully I got my laptop back so I am able to make more episodes faster. So get ready for the next episode where we finally get the teams assembled. Be sure to leave reviews and PM me for questions about this rewrite. Until next time.
