Hello everyone I just wanted to day that more chapters of RWVY REBN season 1 will come in July. And since this is yet another author's note I would like to share my thoughts on Beacon as a school and the huntsmen academies as a whole.
Even though the Beacon Arc was just a typical introduction/first season to a much bigger story. I think the opportunities for character growth and more fun stories help the arc hold up against the boring Mistral Arc and the infuriating Atlas Arc. However aside from Professor Port's class and Glynda's sparring class what other classes/learning is done for the protagonists. Yes there is Oobleck who tries to teach team RWBY via a field trip but that is not enough.
Between "Players and Pieces" and "The Badge and the Burden" there should have been an episode dedicated to teams RWBY and JNPR going to their classes throughout the spend of the first week after initation. For the Beacon Arc I had made a class schedule for teams RWBY, JNPR, CFVY, CRDL, and SSSN (in volume 2). Even with the Vytal festival tournament I would have teams members who's team has made it to the finals for the Vytal Tournament comes with a perk of having one bad test grade/missing assignment forgiven per person on a team. Seeing how teamwork is a huge part of the show I am surprized that a teambuilding class is not something that exists in Beacon's curriculum. Other classes I wanted to see in Beacon include: Shooting Range, Advanced Weapon Building, Hunter Regulation and Law, Dust Training, Psychology, Sociology, Mercenary Economics, Weightlifting, Advanced Aura Training, and Survival in the Wild.
The huntsman academies are supposed to be like college (or at least like boarding school) but the Jaune arc in the current canon is something that would mainly work in a high school. Also the schools should have their students earn their huntsman license and get students to the point where they can level up on their own. Of course each school should be unique in how they teach due to each kingdom's culture. Not to mention there should be an abundance of staff members with their own unique personality traits.
It's a shame we never got insight into what goes on in Haven Academy or Atlas Academy. Exploring the academies could lead to better world-building and in some ways advance the plot. Yes the plotline post volume 3 is much more complex but some slice-of-life moments would be nice or better yet show some characters taking a class from the academies or studying during their downtime. I would see Weiss, Ren, and even Ruby wanting to continue their education on how to become a Hunter.
So that is my take on Beacon and the huntsman academies as a whole. I hope you like this insight into my thoughts on an aspect of RWBY. Expect episode 12 to come out sooner than you expect. Until next time.
