Aegon had begun marching towards King's Landing with the combined forces of the ten thousand strong Golden Company and ten thousand Dornish spearmen commanded by the recently arrived Quentyn Martell the Unburnt. He may have failed to receive a marriage but what he gained was more valuable than anyone could have ever imagined. The dragon seemed to be strong in Quentyn's blood and this left Aegon concerned. He would have preferred him to have won Daenery's marriage instead of her dragon.
They took Kingswood rather easily. The castle surrendered as soon as they heard the roar of the dragon. King's Landing, however, would not fall so easily. The Lannisters and Tyrells were not gonna surrender in that way. King's Landing was there last stand and they had mobilized all their troops in protection of the capital. Aegon hoped, however, that perhaps the dragon could convince them otherwise.
He met with Jon Connington and stood in front of the city gates. Prince Doran and Arianne were beside them.
Connington spoke. "It's time for you to go home Lannisters. Aegon VI is the rightful King of Westeros. He's come to reclaim his birthright. So long as you surrender the city now, you will be spared. If you insist on fighting, then you will die."
The Dowager Queen Cersei waved her hand dismissively. "This is a waste of time. The right King already holds the throne."
Tommen was nervous. He saw the dragon and read about them in his history books. The side with the dragon always wins. He turns to Margaery. "We can't win this." he whispers to her.
Margaery nods. "No, we shouldn't fight. We need to survive. We can hold the Westerlands and the Reach but not this."
Tommen looks at her with worry.
Queen Cersei looks at the king with disdain. "Your Grace, your father would never have surrendered. You should know that. He would have fought to the death. He believed in fighting for his place in this world. Not yielding to those who seek to take it from him."
Aegon turned to face her. "I am not here to argue with you. I am here to liberate my city. And I will."
Queen Cersei smirked. "You'll fight us. But I'm sure you're smart enough to realize there are better ways to kill thousands of men than through battle."
Connington stepped forward. He commanded the Golden Companies battlements ready. Aegon gave Prince Quentyn the Unburnt the signal.
"Dracarys." Quentyn ordered the dragon flame that swallowed the gates of King's Landing.
"Beneath the gold, the bitter steel." shouted Jon Connington as the Golden Companies breach the cities gates through the flames.
