Of Ruined Plans and Sleepless Nights
You are the hole in my head, you are the space in my bed
You are the silence in between what I thought and what I said
You are the night-time fear
You are the morning when it's clear
When it's over your start
You're my head, you're my heart
No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can choose what stays and what fades away."
- No Light, No Light by Florence + The Machine
Hades was pacing through the Underworld. Once again, his perfect plan, RUINED by that little minx Meg. Oh how he loathed being beaten in his own game, yet he found Meg's quick brain rather compelling. As he was engaged in his own thoughts, his minions were once smart enough to stay away from their boss. Then an unwelcome visitor arrived to the Underworld, interrupting the train of his thoughts.
"A little late for the party, aren't you?" Hades snapped at her as he saw the approaching figure of Cybele.
"Well, that depends on the point of view, I guess," Cybele replied, completely unfazed by his reaction.
"Where were you? I could have used your help," Hades growled at her, not wiling to play any games and dance around the subject.
"Oh, I was there, I was just keeping an eye at my people in the city," Cybele calmly noted.
"Oh yeah, I heard of that. A little mayhem, and then your followers just run away. What happened to fighting to the last stand?" Hades snarkily asked.
"Oh, that was YOUR plan. I just wanted more devoted followers. And I got just that. I've got more offerings and prayers in just few days than I have received for years!" Cybele pointed out.
"So you're just gonna settle to that?" Hades asked incredulously.
"I'm a Goddess, what I want is followers who bring offerings to me. That does keep me happy," Cybele reminded him.
"What about Zeus? You know he's gonna have our bacons for this!" Hades replied.
"May I correct: he's gonna have YOUR bacon for this. He's your brother, so he's your problem. I'm one of the old Gods, he wouldn't dare to raise his hand against me. I've been around here much longer than him or any of you new-comers. So good luck with that and ta-ta," Cybele retreated away, leaving the fuming God of the Underworld alone.
Well, this was just great. He was already on Zeus' bad side and now he was going to face the repercussion of this fiasco alone?
Great. Just great.
That night, though her exhaustion, Meg had trouble sleeping well. In her dream, she was still trailing the catacombs below the palace, looking for something, but she could not remember what it was.
And all the time she had this feeling that she wasn't alone, that somebody was there, a malevolent someone, following after her steps. She wasn't sure if it was Hades, or maybe Barak, but someone was there.
Then the dried up vines covering the corridor floors became alive, moving around like snakes, twisting around her ankles so she couldn't move, bringing her down to the ground.
It was the curse, the curse placed upon her family, finally taking her down like the most of her family after all these years…
And still that someone was coming ever closer and closer.
And she couldn't move, she was slowly choking to death, her own blood drowning her just like the last time
And this time not even Hercules would be there to save her…
And then, Meg woke up with a startle, her heart still racing from her dream.
She sat up, tiredly rubbing her face. She sighed as she felt her body tired with exhaustion, but still too anxious from her dream to fall asleep again. At the back of her brain, she felt the words Hades had thrown at her before taking her down, gnawing at her defenses. Was he right? Was she doomed to fall from Gods' graces and do something regrettable? Was she really a villain, like him, deep down?
Determined, Meg shook her head, trying her best to push those unwelcome thoughts aside. She looked to her side, finding her beloved still fast asleep. Luckily Wonderboy wasn't a light sleeper and she could tell by his sleeping form that he felt exhausted as well.
'Well, at least one of us is in Morpheus' graces,' Meg drily thought to herself, as she lightly brushed his cheek and he smiled despite his sleep.
She scooted closer to him, settling to his warmth and hoping to get some sleep as well.
