Six years ago a small corner apartment was bought. The young woman who lived in it with her son did not seem as if they could afford the price of the apartment or the schooling that the boy was able to get. No one truly understood why they would get this place on Coruscant when so many others were fighting tooth and nail for one. The two never spoke to their neighbors, and never tried to make people like them. They just lived the best that they could with what they had.
The woman was human, and her name was Sarabeth. As for the boy she called her son; the blue skin, blue-black hair, and glowing red eyes could not have been more different to her tanned pale skin, light brown hair and blue-grey eyes. No one knew that the boy was Chiss, but she named him Jinn. A scan would have shown that Sarabeth had never given birth, but she did not say a word on how she got her son. Just raised and loved him as her own, not expecting to ever meet another one of his race.
However fate or the force had a different plan. Sarabeth was a trainer in the Yinchorri martial arts studio and was working when the Imperials came to call. After Thrawn's conversation with Price he dueled the owner of the Dojo with sticks. During these activities he realized that Sarabeth was watching him not with the horror or incredulity that many other humans had. She had a look of recognition, as if finally piecing something together. So when Sarabeth quietly came up to him with another set of sticks during his conversation with the other Imperials he turned to her. She seemed almost shy as she spoke, "I realize that you're busy, but you barely scratched the surface of what you can actually do with these and I was wondering if you would like to go again."
Thrawn studied her face, "And you would be my dueling partner?" It was more of a statement than a question, and she nodded. Reaching out to take the sticks she offered, "Agreed."
When they had stepped into their respective distances there was a heartbeat of motionlessness. Then the air sang with the speed and skill that the two combatants were able to use. This was a skill that no one had witnessed before, not even with the owner of the Dojo as the two performed a deadly dance. Thrawn was surprised and had to use his full abilities to keep her off, but still found himself flat on his back with her stick across his throat. She had one knee on his chest with her other hand restraining the arm not already trapped by her body. After a few seconds of breathing and silence there was a burst of applause and one of the other trainers called, "That's our Sarabeth!"
She blushed and got off of Thrawn, and offered her hand to help pull him up. When he was standing she looked up at him, "I'm sorry, I had a lot of stress to work out." Then took his sticks and slipped back into the rest of the people.
Vanto hurried up to Thrawn, "Her beating you was part of a plan, right?"
Thrawn shook his head, "She beat me because she is better than I am." With an almost imperceptible change in expression, "Who is she?"
Yularen was the one that answered, "Her name is Sarabeth Wing. She's been working here for six years, but no one knows about her life before that." Looking at Thrawn, "Why?"
Another almost imperceptible change, "There is something about her that reminds me of someone I met in your Clone Wars." Turning, "But that is of no importance." Then they went back to the matter at hand, finding out more information about the Dojos.
