Our first stop would be London, England.
The flight lasted an entire day, and one hour. I managed to sleep a few hours before I pulled out a book, curled up in my seat, and began reading a book Rose had given me. Meanwhile Edward sat next to me, doing business on his laptop.
When we finally landed, we got into the car, while Felix and Peter quickly grabbed our bags.
Once we arrived, Edward turned toward me, with a smile, "Welcome to our temporary home for the next two weeks." He told me.
I turned to him with wide eyes, "Two weeks?" I asked, in surprise.
He nodded, "Business here will be a bit time consuming, but I'm sure that it'll go by rather quickly." He promised.
I nodded, before turning to go up the stairs without another word.
Later that night, I bathed and changed into a night dress, before climbing into bed with a tired sigh.
I heard the sound of the door open and close a few minutes later but I was too tired to acknowledge his presence or bother to tell him to stay on his side of the bed.
The next morning, Edward left with Felix, leaving me with Peter before I woke up.
When I did, I quickly got out of bed, and got dressed into a pair of navy slacks, a beige knit sweater, and some black Chelsea boots.
Then I went downstairs, only to find a small, round woman standing in the kitchen. I gasped in surprise, before she turned around. Then a small squeel left my lips as I rushed towards her and pulled her into a hug.
She had been one of our neighbors before this happened. I always wondered what had happened to her.
"Mrs. Cope, what are you doing here?" I asked.
"Oh my dear! I didn't know you married into the Cullen family. When did this happen?" She asked, evasively.
"Just a few shorts hours ago. I'm married to Edward, the youngest son of the Cullens." I told her, as she looked away and turned to grab something from in back of her.
She smiled and nodded before setting down a plate of fruit, and breakfast food. "I'm glad that you're safe and happy, dear." She whispered before moving away from me.
"Not that I mind you being here, but what exactly are you doing here?" I asked, as I looked down at the fruit.
She sighed, as she turned away and wiped at the already clean counters. "I used to work for the Cullens as one of their housekeepers. Ms. Lizzie asked me to come here." She explained, before adding, "I guess, I now know why." In a quiet voice.
Up until now I always had the doubt that only my father was dead.
Maybe there were survivors, maybe my mother was somewhere out there, alive. I had to know. And I wouldn't find out if I didn't ask her. If anyone would tell me the truth it's her.
"Do you know if my —my mother survived that night?" I asked her, quietly.
She turned to look at me, sad blue eyes glistening with unshed tears, "I'm sorry, my dear, but that night, when I arrived home, the cops were carrying out two body bags. There were no survivors that night. In fact, up until a year ago, we all believed you to be dead as well." She said, as she wiped her tears away.
I nodded, swallowing hard as I felt the last hope of falling to pieces with me as she did.
"I'm sorry, Bella, but I know for sure that it was both your parents that died there…" she told me.
"H-how do you know for sure, I mean, the body bags were… closed. Couldn't it have been someone else?" I asked desperately.
A tear fell from her eye, as she shook her head from side to side. "I was your mother's aunt, Bella. I was listed as her emergency contact. I'm sorry, but both of them are gone, sweetheart." She whispered, confirming my worst fear.
I nodded, pushing away my plate and slowly making my way back towards the room, where I stayed for the rest of the day, feeling desolated.
Things however went from bad to worse when Edward came back home, because he had confirmed his worst fear.
He had gone to see a friend of the family, and as it turns out, what Aro had told us was true, the Romanians were gunning for the family.
Putting us all in grave danger. Especially me.
He proceeded to place more security around the house, and guards to my already full security detail.
It warned him that he was overreacting since I was only going to be staying inside the house but after discussing things he convinced me that I should let Peter show me around the city, to see the beauty of it all. After arguing I finally obliged.
Though I got a sinking feeling that something bad was going to happen, I ignored it and the next day Peter and I left to go sightseeing and shopping around the town.
