Only walking from their apartment that evening Senator Martin and his sons apologies still in her ears did Sarabeth believe what had happened. How is it that the outcast son of someone who is hated by everyone on principle is now enjoying the favor of a Senator? The walk to the private residence Senator Se'lab had stated as a place to meet was enough time for her to wrap her mind around it. Sarabeth knew that Thrawn had orchestrated it, and smiled as she figured out what he had done. However there was one question she had to ask him.
Thrawn had left the Office before anyone else, presumably on the way to his ship. He would be late if he hadn't gone, but it hurt that she couldn't thank him for what he had done for them. Jinn startled her out of her thoughts by silently slipping his hand into hers. She gave it a reassuring squeeze. Reminding herself that they had faced worse and got through it alright she pressed for the door to be opened.
Taking a deep breath she told herself Go in, meet the parents, say social things, and slip off when they won't take offense. Then the door opened, Blast! This was not a "Just meet the parents" operation, this was a full fledged party. Never had their best clothes looked so shabby.
They were left near the doorway and both stared at the opulence around them. As they moved on to an observation of the mass of people that they did not know. Suddenly a familiar measured voice spoke near them, "Typically guests leave the doorway."
Turning in unison both felt better and Jinn ran to hug the older chiss, "Thrawn," Sarabeth said with relief pregnant in her voice. Then accusingly but with a trace of humor, "Aren't you supposed to be with your ship?"
"I always see an operation though to the end," was Thrawn's easy response laying his hand on Jinns shoulder. To Sarabeth's raised eyebrows, "And the Senator agreed that having at least one person the two of you knew well here would be a wise idea."
As he stepped up beside her she nodded, "Yes, that would be wise." Then with another trace of humor, "And you should know most if not all people here."
Thrawn bowed his head, "I have met many of them." Then with Jinn in between the pair, they set off into the throng to find their hosts.
