Bella's POV:
Three Weeks Later:
I didn't know for how long I was unconscious, but when I woke up, I wasn't where I expected to be.
I thought for sure I would be in a hospital, or something along those lines, what with all the pain I felt on my limbs and back, but I wasn't and I was immediately put on edge as I realized this.
I seemed to be in a large sharply decorated room, laying in a massive four poster bed. I could see nothing but the countryside from the large garden windows on the right side of the room.
I bit back a cry when I tried to move my legs off the bed only to realize why the movement was so painful. 'What's wrong with my legs?' I think with a frown.
I looked and noticed that one of my legs was wrapped in a cast, my left arm tangled in clear plastic tubing, and an oxygen mask was covering my nose and mouth.
As I tried to move once more, I winced as pain shot through my injured leg again making it impossible.
Sweat was dewing in my neck, and forehead from the pain. I was stuck here.
"You need to stay put." A British masculine voice said, causing me to gasp in surprise.
My eyes snapped to the voice in surprise, "W-where am I?" I asked, confused.
He sighed as he slowly got out of the chair he was sitting in, and made his way towards the bed I was in. "You were in the hospital after an unfortunate accident with a vehicle. When you were brought into the hospital, a concerned family member asked me to help you, to hide you away, you were promptly moved from the hospital to this location for your safety and the rest of your remaining family members." He explained.
I frowned, "Family? But my family is all gone." I told him quietly, as I looked down at my hands.
He shook his head in response, "That's where you're wrong, Miss. Swan. There are still a few out there that love and care for you. Now, if you don't mind, I'll go and get them, but I do advise you to stay put. You wouldn't want to aggravate that broken bone in that leg more than it already is." He said as he began to move towards the door.
I sighed before relaxing into the bed, "Who are you? Why are you here with me? Why are you helping me?" I asked.
He turned to look at me before giving me a small friendly smile, "My name is Henry Turner, and I'm helping you, because Shelly Cope is my mother's dear friend." He said before turning to look at me.
Shelly Cope? Shell—! Mrs. Cope! Oh how could I forget about her?!
She was my last remaining family member, after all.
I briefly wondered what would happen once Edward and the Cullens found out where I was?
Would he try to get me? Will I be in trouble for the accident? For what I witnessed? For interrupting.
A frustrated sigh escaped my lips as I eased myself up into a sitting position and turned my head to stare out the window.
The sky looked to be heavily clouded, with black and gray clouds. It was as if rain was moving slowly towards our location.
Scoffing, as I shook my head in frustration, at the fact that I ran at the first sight of violence.
All that training with Felix and Peter only to become a wimp at the first sight of blood and violence.
I am the biggest wimp in existence.
As I felt myself begin to wallow in my pity and shame, a sharp knock was heard from the door, causing me to turn.
"C-come in." I called before turning back to look out the window, blinking away tears.
"Bella." Mrs. Cope called from the doorway.
"Mrs. Cope!" I sighed, as tears fell from my eyes.
She rushed towards me, and quickly wrapped her arms around me, carefully.
"Oh, my sweet girl, I was so worried about you." She told me as Henry helped her pull a chair closer to the bed.
"Why am I here?" I asked her.
"You're here because I wanted to help you gain your freedom." She told me.
I stared at her in surprise. "Freedom? How?" I asked. "Those people are dangerous. They won't stop looking if they have an inkling that I am alive." I whispered, as my eyes began to water again
She shook her head and patted my thigh as she looked up at Henry who nodded.
"They can't find you if they think you're dead." She told me.
I felt my brow as it furrowed in confusion as she explained what Henry helped her do.
"How long have you been planning this?" I asked.
"For a while. I had help from the inside too… Everything was going according to plan until today, shortly after the accident, we realized that you had gotten hurt due to us not preparing for this type of situation." She told me, apologetically.
"How long?" I asked again
"Since you were fifteen." She told me.
I frowned, looking down at my hands before nodding in response, "Why?" I asked quietly.
"Hm?"
"Why did you allow so much time to go by?" I asked her.
She sighed, looking distraught, "I didn't know you were alive until a few months ago. The Cullens made sure to keep you well hidden from the world. If it wasn't for Garrett, I'd probably never would have found out."
I frowned, "Garrett? How did he—?" I began to ask.
"He's my brother, I had him infiltrate to get info on the Cullens but what he found was rather alarming. Once we knew for sure that it was you, we made a plan to get you out." Henry said.
"I'm married to him." I whispered.
Mrs. Cope shook her head, "It's not valid, dear. You were only seventeen." She told me.
I shook my head at her, "No, I'm eighteen. It's legal to be married at eighteen." I told them.
She shook her head, "We switched your real birth certificate with a fake one, Bella. The fake one says your birthday is on September thirteen, actual your birthday isn't until the twenty third. Your real birthday really was yesterday." She told me.
I shook my head, "This is a lot to take in." I mumbled, laying back tired as my head began to throb.
"I know, it'll take a while for you to wrap your head around this shitty situation. But it'll be okay…." she promised.
I nodded, "So, what's going to happen now? What did Edward and the Cullens say about me disappearing?" I asked them.
"Easy. There will be time to explain everything. For now, you'll be changing your name. The Cullens were all told you were killed in the traffic accident. I know you're upset but it was the only way to get you out of there." Mrs. Cope said.
I nodded, swallowing hard as I looked back out the window.
"If you don't mind, I need to ask you, a rather intimate question." Henry softly said.
I frowned but nodded as I continued to stare out the window. "Go for it." I mumbled.
"Did you and Edward ever consummate the marriage?" He asked.
I swallowed hard, nodding in response, "We did. It happened shortly after we arrived in London. Third night." I whispered.
Mrs. Cope sighed, "Did you use any form of contraceptive?" She asked.
"No." I whispered, shaking my head in response. I never thought to use any. Even after the first time.
They both exchanged concerned looks,
as I spoke, the room suddenly growing colder around us.
I had a feeling this wasn't going to be an easy escape.
A few days later I knew exactly why that was.
I was pregnant.
"The doctor said you need to rest as much as possible, especially after the accident." Henry told me after the doctor left.
I had been given a pair of crutches and had been moving around in them for short periods of time, but after the doctor arrived and examined me, I sat down on the couch and hadn't bothered to move since.
"I am resting. I haven't moved from here." I replied, quietly.
"Are you alright?" He asked me as he kneeled down next to the couch.
I stared at him blankly before moving back to stare out the window. "I'm not sure. Is it okay to miss them and wonder how they feel about my disappearance?" I asked.
He shook his head, "They were told you were dead, and given a cadaver with your matching description. The woman had died in a rather horrid car accident. They won't suspect a thing. We placed your rings on her." He told me.
"That doesn't make me feel better. We basically lied to them." I told him, saddened at the thought of their pain, especially Elizabeth's.
"So, you'd rather have been kept under lock and key for the rest of your life? Treated like a china doll?" He asked rhetorically.
No. Of course not. Who would?
When I remained quiet, he sighed, "I'm not saying this is permanent, but due to you being the target of the Romanian sect. It's best that you remain here than over there, in the line of fire." He told me with a small smile.
I nodded, "You're right. It is." I whispered as I placed my hand down on my flat stomach.
For you, I will do anything to protect you. Even if it means staying away.
