Thrawn did meet Sarabeth and Jinn at the door, and thanked the Senator for a good evening. Then he walked home with the two, even carrying Jinn when the boy was clearly falling asleep and the boy was getting too heavy for Sarabeth to carry all the way back. It was a quiet night, and the unusual pair were content to walk quietly side by side.
It was not yet late enough for the real trouble makers to come out, and those who looked like they wanted to harm the trio were quelled by Thrawn looking them directly in the eye. When they finally got to Sarabeth's apartment building they went into the apartment and Thrawn set Jinn down on his bed. Sarabeth took off the boy's shoes and slipped him out of the tunic so that he was in an under tunic and pants. Then she pulled the blanket over him.
After closing the door on the bedroom she slipped out and looked at Thrawn across the living room. He was studying her and was about to leave when she asked, "Why?"
He turned back, "You are wondering why I walked you home."
"For starters." Meeting his eyes unflinchingly, "Why did you inform the Bothians? Why did you miss your ship for us? Why did you volunteer when you knew I had no dance partner?" Then with a shrug, "Why do you care about us?" Her hand gestured to herself and the door behind her to indicate Jinn.
"I don't know." He looked at Sarabeth, "I do not know why I feel so protective of the two of you. I just do." With a bow of his head, "And I will always be here for the both of you, no matter what." She crossed to him and forced him to look at her. Then their lips met. And it was decided that Thrawn would not try to find somewhere else to sleep that night.
