It was a few days later, long enough for Sarabeth to know the Guards schedule, that she decided to escape. She was still strong enough despite the small amount of food and water that she was given. After the guard checked on her, she reached her right fingers into her sleeve to find what was hidden in the too large cuff.
Finding the small metallic object. She carefully pulled it out to reveal a multi purpose thing that she unclipped to reveal a wrench. Her dad's eyes sparkled when he gave it to her…. No, she can't think about that now.
Raising her head a little so she could focus on the cuff ends meet, she got to work.
It took about six minutes to get completely free of her bands. The ones on her ankles gave her the most trouble, as they were also shock cuffs. After making sure there was no guards around she stretched and made her way down the hall.
Because this was an X-class trade ship from about thirty years before she knew the schematics and headed straight for the hanger bay. That is, until she heard a sound that stopped her. It was a rhythmic thwack of metal against skin and bone. A living being if the grunts she heard were any definition.
Turning she followed it down a side corridor and to a more isolated section of the brig. Where single prisoners were kept and tortured. There she saw one of the Mandos beating an unarmed man, but that was for a logic got.
She saw the blue skin and blue-black hair. That was the same coloring of her baby, of her only friend. Seeing the glowing red eyes in the slits behind the matted hair, and lost it.
Picking up the table she used it to knocked the Mando to the ground, knocking off his helmet. There was surprise in the eyes as she used the table again to hit him in the head. Knowing that was a blow that would cause him to pass out fo at least an hour she turned to the frightened Chiss on the floor.
Kneeling down a few feet away from him she extended a hand and spoke in Cheunh, "I mean no harm you." Kriff, what was this so hard. She had the Chiss's full attention so she struggled on, "We must now go, warrior of the Chiss."
The man pulled himself up at that. But he flinched as Sarabeth grabbed the handguns from the holsters on the Mandos waist. When she gave him one he seemed a little surprised, but he also followed her. When they reached the corridor that Sarabeth had left to find the Chiss silently following her the alarm went off.
"Karrablast," she muttered with vehemence. Grabbing the Chiss's arm she pulled him along towards the hanger. He seemed to realized what danger they were in as he started running too.
Sarabeth bolted around the corner into the corridor with the hanger when a lobby of fire came from the junction ahead. The Chiss grabbed her around the waist and pulled her back behind the wall with him. He spoke in Sy Bisi, "Do you understand?"
She nodded and answered, "I speak it as well as my first language."
A slight nod of acknowledgement before he spoke, "I will distract them and cover you as you head towards the door."
"It's the hanger bay," she responded. "If we get in there we can grab a ship."
Understanding dawned on his beaten and bruised face, "That's good." A swallow, "Once you are inside I'll follow."
It was her tun to nod, "Alright."
He raised three fingers, and put each down before he twisted so his gunhand was around the corner and started shooting. Sarabeth ducked the fire adding some of her own in a few defensible places but kept progressing until she was at the doors. They were locked.
Pulling her small multipurpose tool back from her sleeve she quickly detached the panel and opened the door in under a minute. Ducking inside she waited for the Chiss before she sealed the doors again. Giving a check on him, she double checked her work.
As the Chiss took up a defensive stance behind a crate Sarabeth scanned the ships. Then there was a barrage of fire and the Chiss was focusing on keeping the enemies back. Sarabeth was also firing in order to keep the enemies distracted. It was about five minutes before he realized she wasn't firing and turned to check on her.
Only to find her head poking out of a Republic Shuttle and saying, "Come on." He ran before jumping on board and she shut the door behind him. Rushing to the cockpit she took the pilots seat and started to fly it. Weaving though fighters, enemy fire, and the astroid belt itself.
After about twenty minutes and at least as many close calls they were finally safe beyond the captors. Well, if not safe then they had some breathing room. Looking up at the Chiss standing silently next to the door of the cockpit Sarabeth spoke, "I don't thing we've been introduced." Standing up she extending a hand, "I'm Sarabeth Wing, but everyone calls me Sarabeth."
The Chiss took it, "Mitth'ras'safis." Then with a slight smile, "My friends call me Thrass. I believe you count."
She smiled at him and nodded, "Alight Thrass." Taking her hand back she went back to the controls, "I know you will want to return to the Chiss Ascendancy, but I need to get to Bothawui. We can contact my Chiss friend from there to get your situation sorted out."
Thass nodded and sat next to her, "Why do you need to get to Bothawui?"
Looking at him, "My son is there." Seeing Thrass's face change, "No, I'm not married and I have never had anyone interested in dating me so my son is adopted. But he is still my boy and I need to get back to him."
Nodding slowly Thrass answered, "Alright." Sarabeth smiled at him again and laid in the course.
