The sun was going down and it was getting colder. Crashing damaged the ship enough to make getting it warm enough for human habitation impossible. Even when Sarabeth had cut off the smallest room to channel the heat too and added some layers of extra clothing from an abandoned closet it wasn't enough.
Thrass watched her temperature dropping. Chiss can see temperatures around them, especially in the cold, and Sarabeth was dimming. She was now cocooned in every blanket the ship had.
Calculating the rate the temperature was dropping and comparing it with what he had read of human anatomy he realized that her body would shut down and freeze well before midnight at the current rate. As this was unacceptable he started thinking of possible solutions and quickly set aside making a fire because what was left of the ships systems would put it out. There were no more blankets left and they had possible access to hot drinks which would have faded long before the night was over.
He closed his eyes for a moment to gather himself for the only workable solution he could come up with. Nodding with his newfound certainty he got off the chair from which he had been watching the human before walking over too and crouching beside her, "Sarabeth."
"Y-yesss?" she managed to get out between chattering teeth.
"I have been thinking over our problem and I believe I have a solution." There was a slight flicker of hope in her eyes, "It seems that we must huddle together for warmth."
Looking up at him she tilted her head slightly, "Y-you d-don'tt need warm-mpth as m-much as I d-do."
He nodded, "I know. But despite my peoples tolerance to cold, I will freeze as well before the night is over." Thrass was fudging it a bit, but it was worth a try.
Sarabeth nodded and sipped out from her cocoon of blankets. Turing her back on him, she quickly slipped out of her jumpsuit. He quickly turned his back towards her to give her some privacy as more layers and then her boots with her socks joined them on the floor. When she slipped back into the bundle was when he decided it was safe to turn around.
He found she was looking at him, "A-are you g-getttingg under or n-not?" looking away from him to return the favor of privacy, he slipped out of the extra layers then joined her under the blankets when he was wearing his small clothes like she was.
Despite letting in as little cold air as possible he saw a shiver run down her slim frame. She was still and accepting as he pressed against her back before she pressed herself securely against his chest and slipped his arms around her. Taking a few calming breaths he closed his eyes, and he fell asleep to the tune she hummed that vibrated through her. It took her longer to follow him.
