Elena was sat on one of church benches, extremely bored whilst she listened to the Mikaelson's catch each other up on the evenings festivities.

She found herself staring out of a window watching the clouds move, the wind sway the tree's and the moon glisten, she couldn't help but recall all the events of the last few days; agreeing to stay with Elijah and Klaus and be a human blood bank, killing Esther, leaving her home and her family, travelling to Pennsylvania and going to the castle with Elijah.

... Elijah.

She repeated his name over and over in head, trying to make some sense of how close they had become, or seemed to anyway. She seemed to want him close to her at all times, to feel his breath on her skin again, his arm around her waist and the feel of his hands on her face. She couldn't understand why she was having these thoughts, it was Elijah, the original vampire who had betrayed her countless times... But he has saved her life too.

"Did you catch all that, Elena?" A snarky voice suddenly snapped her back to reality, her head swung in the direction of Klaus, whom didn't look best pleased.

"Huh?" She had no idea what they where talking about, she lost them a while back, it had been 2 hours since they arrived back to the church and about 36 hours since she last slept, there was no comprehending anything that was occurring, "Yeah, got it."

She faked a smile, pushed the loose hairs from her face and tucked them behind her ears and stood from her seat, walking towards the siblings to join them, each of them looking at her in disbelief.

"Someone fill her in, I'm going to call Troy." Klaus shook his head and exited the church, Kol followed behind him, he didn't seem to entertain the idea of repeating everything they had spoke about, leaving only Elijah and Rebekah.

"Basically, the book and weapons you and Elijah collected are useless right now," Rebekah sighed, "What we assumed to be a weapon inside the box was actually one half of a key, the location of the other half and what it does is in the book. Unfortunately, we can't read it, the language is ancient and one we're not familiar with. The monks didn't help us, we couldn't even pass through this weird magical barrier they had around the monastery."

Elijah and Elena glanced at each other, an amused smirk covering there faces.

"What's so funny?" Rebekah said, not amused.

"They had one around the castle," Elena said, Rebekah looking even more confused at her words, "You need to have good intentions to pass through it."

Elijah nodded his head, confirming her words to Rebekah.

"I blame Klaus for this, constantly thinking about killing everyone he crosses paths with." She rolled her eyes.

"What's the plan now?" Asked Elena.

Klaus walked back into the church in this moment and appeared next to Elena, "Next, dear Elena, I need some of your blood to create some more hybrids, the fight against the demon king is going need nothing short of a small army."

A small army... Elijah repeated his brothers words in his head, he completely forgot about this part of there arrangement, he couldn't let this happen... But he couldn't break a deal either. He saw Elena nod her head in approval, no words and a blank expression to didn't like this.

"Not tonight, brother," Elijah interjected, before moving between them both, almost instinctively protecting Elena and keeping her from his twisted brother, "If I recall, it's been nearly two days since Elena has slept, eaten, rested, she's been aiding us in our search for the demon king, if you draw her blood now, her body will not be able to handle it."

Klaus looked disappointed, especially towards his brother and the concern he has for the doppelganger. But he couldn't deny his words had some truth to them.

There was a silence in the room, all the siblings where staring at Klaus, waiting for a response, hoping they weren't going to begin fighting. No-one wanted that at this time.

"You're right, Elijah, of course you are," His words and smile containing a hint of rage, "Elena must rest, we can't have you passing out and potentially dying, you will go with Rebekah to one of the safe houses we have nearby and I'll come collect you both in a couple of days."

"Nik, no!" Rebekah exclaimed, quite suddenly and loudly.

"Yeah, I'd rather be alone," Elena responded.

"And I'd rather sitting on a spiked chair made from white oak." They where almost bickering at this point.

"I will supervise Elena," Elijah interjected, almost too happy to. "Rebekah will kill her and Elena will escape just to be away from her. I can handle this."

Klaus reluctantly nodded his head, he didn't like the way the pair where being with each other, they seemed too close.

"Then I shall see you both in a couple of days." He said between gritted teeth, "In the mean time, we'll pursue the book and the weapons, I'll be back to collect you when you've rested."

Once again, Elijah and Elena where back in the car driving towards the safe house; thankfully, Elena had slept for most of it, Elijah had woken her when they where a few minutes away.

She rubbed her eyes until her vision became clear and looked upon Elijah, her heart warming ever so slightly at his presence.

"I'm glad you slept a bit," Elijah smiled.

"Nowhere near enough," She giggled, "But it'll keep me going a bit longer, are we here?"

"Almost."

And minutes later, he pulled up in front a house, it had two floors, white exterior with black window frames and door too match, a white fence surrounding it and a lawn outside with a couple of trees and bushes. It was perfect.

Elijah was out of the car and opening her door within seconds, she gracefully took his hand and stepped out of the car, he made her feel like royalty.

"Klaus had Troy bring your things here whilst we drove, also the house has had a quick clean, the fridge stocked, bedding all new and furniture freshened up, you should have everything you need."

"This is perfect!" She said excitedly before following him to the entrance of the house, he took out a set of keys and unlocked the door, both of them entering into the entrance hallway.

Elena walked into the living room; 2 couches and an armchair, a television in the corner, coffee table in the centre, curtains draped nicely over the windows, a rug covering the centre of the room and a double door entrance into what she assumed was the kitchen and dining area.

"Would you like a tour?" Elijah broke the silence.

"Maybe later? All I want to do right now is drink coffee and sit on that couch," A small chuckle escaping her lips. Elijah waved his arm towards the couch, gesturing her to sit.

"Make yourself comfortable, I'll get you a drink," Elijah offered before exiting the room into the kitchen.

Elena took her coat off, hung it on the hook hanging on the wall and proceeded to enter the living room, she looked all around, there was a couple of paintings on the wall, a mirror and a clock. She sat down, it almost felt unreal that she was off her feet, she kicked her shoes off, leaving only her socks and crossed her legs beneath her, doing everything she could to relax.

Elijah returned, holding 2 cups, one filled with coffee, the other with blood from a bag, he handed her the coffee.

"Thank you!" She instantly brought the mug to her lips and took a big gulp before placing it on the table. "I really needed that."

There was an awkward pause and a silence that filled the room. Elena looked over to Elijah who had just finished his mug of blood, she amazed herself how she could be around so many people who drink blood from mugs and it didn't phase her in the slightest.

"I just wanted to say thank you, Elijah, for suggesting to Klaus we rest for a couple of days, I really needed it, I thought I was going to cry at the thought of him draining my blood tonight. I probably would have passed out," Elena spoke.

"Of course, I couldn't allow him to put you through that torture without at least a meal before hand, I don't want him to take your blood in the first place, if I have to be on board with this then it should be on your terms and in good health."

"Wait, you don't want him to have my blood? Why?" She questioned, "It's part of the deal we all agreed on, I've come to terms with it; if it means keeping my family safe, I'll do it."

"You're more than just a blood bag to me, Elena." Elijah's voice low and full of emotion.

Before she could ask what she meant to him, he stood from the couch and headed towards the kitchen, "I'll make you some dinner."

"No, that's okay, I'm gonna go straight to bed," She stood from the couch too, "I'll see you in the morning, goodnight, Elijah."

"You're room is the one on the right," She nodded her head at his words, "Goodnight, Elena."

They both shared a sweet smile before exiting the room in different directions, Elena went straight to the staircase and practically flew up them, walking across the small hallway and entering her room, there was a king size bed, all made in fresh bedding, a dressing table, a wardrobe, set of drawers and her bags had been placed at the foot of her bed.

She immediately opened one of the bags, pulled out a pair of shorts and vest top and changed out of the clothes she had been wearing for days, she lay on the bed, stuck in thought about everything going on in her life, Elijah especially before drifting off into a deep slumber.
