They all arrived back at the hotel, Elena was exhausted but she was far too happy to see Bonnie to even contemplate sleep; much to everyone's annoyance, they had chatted the entire way back. Bonnie had pretty much caught her up on what had been going on in her life lately, there wasn't any attacks, no evil brewing in Mystic Falls and that she was generally happy.

Elena couldn't help but feel like all her past turmoil was her doing.

They all entered Klaus' penthouse once again; the original vampires all remained stood up whilst Elena and Bonnie sat down, they where both laughing and enjoying each others company.

"I'm starting to regret reuniting you two," Klaus smirked, the pair of them shooting him a glare, "Apologies, don't break my neck."

They both rolled there eyes and giggled; they where like sisters, everything they did was the same.

"You're in a good mood, Nik," Rebekah spoke.

"Take that back," He joked, Rebekah still looking at him in confusion, "I'm glad that our brother and Elena are back safe and sound."

He stood next to Kol, his hand on his shoulder, "I'm sorry for attacking you, brother, I let my rage take over once again and from what I believe, it wasn't your doing."

He looked over to Elena who returned his gaze when she heard him forgive Kol, she shot him a kind smile before returning her attention to Bonnie.

Elijah stood by the door, his arm leaning against the wall as he watched Elena, it brought him nothing but joy to see her safe and happy.

"You should get some rest though, Elena, it's been a trying time for you." Elijah suggested.

"He's right, I'm not gonna keep you up all night," Bonnie smiled towards her friend, "And Klaus has set me up in a pretty nice room so I'm not letting that go to waste. If we're going to get that weapon back tomorrow and spell it, I'll need some sleep too."

She laughed at her words, "We'll talk more tomorrow though?"

"Of course, I'll see you then," Bonnie stood from the couch and Elena walked with her to the door, hugging her friend one final time before she left.

"It's the full moon tomorrow," Klaus didn't wait a second to bring it up and talk about it, ensuring his family where ready for the battle, "We have to find the demon king, retrieve the weapon and kill him before he begins the sacrifice. We'll go over the plan properly in the morning but until then, have fun, be merry and get some well needed rest."

Rebekah and Kol nodded there heads towards there brother and exited the room, headed straight to the bar before the big battle, leaving only Elijah, Elena and Klaus; she was feeling pretty awkward.

"I'm gonna go too-" Her sentence was cut short by Klaus interrupting.

"Elijah, could I please have a moment alone with the lovely Elena before she departs?" He asked, his tone of voice as unbroken and confident as usual.

"Of course, I'll see you both in the morning." He responded, his eyes didn't leave Elena once; she stared at him in return and rolled her eyes upwards, gesturing for him to wait at her room, he understood and nodded his head, leaving the room.

Now that they where alone, Klaus had softened slightly; he pointed his hand towards the sofa, requesting she sit whilst he poured them both a drink; he passed her the glass and sat beside her, his eyes locked on hers.

"How are you?" He asked sincerely, the concern he was showing towards her touched her slightly.

"I'm fine." She took a sip of whiskey from the glass.

"You don't have to pretend with me, Elena, I genuinely want to know how you're feeling after your capture." His voice was soft and his eyes didn't leave hers.

She didn't know whether it was all the pent up emotions she had held in from the past couple of days or the fact that she was almost killed but her eyes began to well up and a single tear escaped from either of her eyes.

"I was scared," She swallowed the lump forming in her throat, "I'm terrified about tomorrow, I can't see anyone get hurt, I feel so powerless in these fights, I'm just a human, I can't help in any way."

Why was she admitting all this to Klaus? Why did she find it so easy to open up to him?

"You help more than you think," He raised his hand towards her face and caught the tears that were running down her face, her eyes sparkled because of the wetness, Klaus was enamoured by her, "You give us the strength to want to win."

He paused for a long moment, contemplating his next words but decided to just say how he felt, "You give me strength."

Her heart was racing again and Klaus heard it, he looked down for a second towards the part of her chest where her heart was, his mind now full of confusion.

"How can you pretend you don't feel something for me when I can hear your heartbeat?" He asked, praying for an answer that wouldn't shatter him into a million pieces.

She didn't speak, only gazed into his eyes; she didn't know what she was doing, she felt as though she had no control over her body or her speech but she felt her arm move towards his chest, her hand resting over the space where his heart lay, "I can't hear your heartbeat."

He looked down at her hand and placed his over it, holding it softly against him.

"Klaus," She started to feel overwhelmed by emotion, "I don't understand what it is I feel for you or why my heart beats the way it does when you're close to me."

"I don't understand this either, all I know is that I want more of it." He admitted, allowing his emotions to win over any logic his brain was forming, telling him to not show weakness and to forget her.

He moved his hand from hers and placed it on her face, his fingers stroking her skin.

"I can't, Klaus, not until I understand why and what I'm feeling." She leaned into his hand slightly before moving it away from her face, he refused to let go and took her hand in his.

"I will wait." He placed a soft kiss on her hand before releasing it.

She stood from the sofa and he followed, "I have to go."

He nodded his head and watched as she left the room with haste, once the door closed behind her, she leaned against it for a long moment; all she could think about was how she was hurting Elijah with all this, she had to come clean.

She took the lift to the floor above and found her room, Elijah was stood outside, leaning against the wall and waiting for her.

Once he spotted her exit the elevator, he sped towards her and took her in his arms, holding her in a tight embrace; she clung to him and held him as tightly as she could.

He placed a soft kiss on her lips, she sunk into him and returned the kiss, her heart breaking even more so with what she had to do next.

After a long moment, she pulled away from him slightly, his hands still on her waist, "Elijah, we have to talk."

He looked at her in confusion, his facial expressions changing, "I don't like the sound of that."

She took his hand and lead him into the room, closing the door behind them.

"Elena, what is it?" He asked, his worry growing by the second.

"I don't know how to say this," tears once again rolling down her cheeks, "I could never forgive myself if I truly hurt you and I feel like I'm doing that by being so close to Klaus; I know the feelings I have for you are strong and they consume me and they're nothing like what I feel for him but there is something there that I don't understand, something for Klaus and it's unfair to you, you shouldn't have to wait around for me to figure it out."

He remained speechless for a second, his heartbreaking at every word she spoke to him; he didn't want to believe that this was it for them. "Elena, I'll always wait for you. I know what we have is real and I have an eternity to wait for you to realise that. Do what you have to do then come back to me."

"Please, don't do that." Tears streaming.

"Don't do what?" He stood in front of her, his hands now cupping her face.

"Be so understanding."

"I feel your heart race everytime I'm close to you, the time we've spent together as brought a smile to your face that gives me purpose, I know you're who I want to spend my life with and I can wait for you to realise the same."

He kissed her softly on the forehead before speeding out of her room; she stood still, the pain in her chest overwhelming, she couldn't believe what she had done.

-w-

She remained in her room, heartbroken and alone; she hated everything that she putting Elijah through and the torture she felt towards herself for feeling anything towards Klaus, her mind was going wild with the amount it was trying to process.

In the end, she couldn't take it anymore and left the room, making her way down to the ground floor bar and ordering herself a drink. She sat on the bar stool, whiskey in hand; she stared at the liquid in the glass, moving it around slightly whilst she lost herself once again to her thoughts.

"What's wrong, love?" A familiar voice broke her train of thought, she turned around to see him standing there. She couldn't even be honest about her break up with Elijah, she didn't really know what to say.

He sat down beside her, waved his hand at the bartender and waited for him to bring his drink, "You can tell me."

"Couldn't sleep, worried about tomorrow." She lied through her teeth, bring the glass to her lips and downing the whiskey in one.

"Impressive," Klaus smirked, he waved his hand once more at the bartender and pointed towards Elena's glass, gesturing for a refill.

He came over with both drinks and placed them in front of them, Klaus held his glass up towards her, "Cheers."

She tapped her glass against his and much to her surprise, once she started drinking it, she couldn't stop, the glass empty when she placed it back down.

"There is definitely something more than just tomorrow bothering you." He said, sipping his whiskey.

She just turned to look at him for a long moment, taking him all in, trying to figure out these feelings she had towards him; she found him to be quite enticing, his smile was perfect, he wore a short sleeved black top and a pair of blue jeans to match, his hair styled perfectly to classic Klaus and his muscular physique complimented by his choice of clothing.

"Come on, fess up, Elena," He continued to pry.

"Fine, it's you!" She spoke quite abruptly with instant regret, before he had the chance to say anything in response, she stood up and removed herself from the situation by exiting the bar.

Get it together already, she muttered to herself as she stood by the elevator, waiting for it too arrive.

Once she stepped inside, before the doors closed, Klaus had appeared next to her, his eyes locked on hers; no more hesitation and no more holding back, he wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her in close.

"I can hear your heart racing," He whispered onto her lips as he neared her, she didn't protest; her breathing became quite laboured at the contact.

She knew she was going to regret this, every fibre of her being was telling her to turn away and not to complicate things anymore than they already where but something inside her refused to let her move; his lips grazed hers, she took a deep breath, "I still can't hear yours."

"It's screaming for you," He admitted before he smashed his lips onto hers, her whole body igniting at his touch; she leaned further into him, her hands now wrapped around his neck, pulling him in even closer. The passion she felt from there kiss was intense, she knew she had feelings for him but she didn't know what they meant, all she knew in that moment was that this had to happen, she needed to feel him touching her at least once.

The elevator door opened and Klaus lead her out, there kiss unbroken as he used his speed to take her into his penthouse; they sat down on the sofa and continued to sink into there heated kiss for a short while.

Elena slowly pulled her lips away from him but she remained in his arms, her body on fire and her mind speeding, "I wasn't expecting that."

"Me neither," He smiled towards her.

"I still don't know what this means."

"And again, me neither." They both cracked a laugh, "I do know I want to do it again."

There lips met once again, there kiss tender and soft; she fell more into it, embracing him in every way she could.
