Two weeks later

Elena and the originals had remained in Mystic Falls, there presence actually welcomed by Elena's peers and her family; they had all won the battle against the demon king together and a war like that brings people together, as it seems

They had remained living in the mansion, Elena too; her and Elijah had spent the last two weeks just enjoying each other as normally as they could, they went on romantic dates, he made her dinner when they stayed in, she had made him watch several movies that weren't in black and white and as old as time, they had a few nights where they stayed up until the next morning just talking and he had even joined her and her friends on a movie night, something he wasn't overly thrilled about but it was important to him to be as involved in her life as she would allow, the fact that she wanted him there in the first place meant a lot to him.

Klaus had tried to relax as much as he could but his fear and paranoia of something or someone wanting to hurt him or his family will always be present in his mind; he had spent many a fun nights with Rebekah and The Salvatores, he caught up on some art he had neglected in the recent months and spent a few nights indoors with Elijah and Elena; they had all bonded really well and all of this helped him ease is his mind

It had been a perfect two weeks, it was almost too good to be true for Elena.

She had spent the afternoon with Bonnie, Caroline and Rebekah and she was forced to live her worst nightmare; wedding planning with 3 very girly best friends, they had made her pop into a few wedding dress stores, they had drank coffee for 2 hours whilst they went over some of the bigger details, like location, flowers, invitations, etc but she didn't have a clue about any of it, she didn't want some big wedding where half the town was invited and a massive party afterwards planned by her bridesmaids, it was all too much for her.

Now they where back at the mansion, Elijah and Klaus present also, Rebekah and Caroline had forced them to be involved in the planning considering Elena was bad at it.

"The main detail we need is a location!" Rebekah exclaimed, "Where do you want to get married?"

"Rebekah, I told you back in the cafe, we haven't spoke about any of this, you completely ambushed me with all this today," She chuckled slightly, she was frustrated but she didn't want to hurt there feelings.

"We didn't ambush you," She responded, her arms crossed.

"Let's have coffee, just us girls," Elena mocked, putting her best Rebekah impression on.

They all laughed slightly at Elena but Rebekah just rolled her eyes, "Well, you wouldn't have come otherwise."

"Exac-" Elena suddenly stopped short in her sentence, she began to feel quite lightheaded; Elijah was at her side in an instant, his arm wrapped around her as she supported her.

"Elena," His voice full of concern, "Are you okay? What is it?"

The girls had come to her side but Klaus remained back slightly, he didn't want to impose on her.

"I-I'm sorry," She stammered her words slightly, her voice sounded weak, "I'm fine."

"You don't look it," Bonnie spoke, her concern also obvious in her voice, "Let's get her up."

They all held onto her as they tried to support her onto her feet; once she had tried to stand, her stomach had turned and she threw her hand over her mouth, without saying a word, she just ran straight up the stairs and into the bathroom, locking the door behind her. She just about made it to the sink before she vomited violently, her entire stomach content landing in the sink.

She heard everyone run upstairs and wait for her outside the door; she ran a tap as she continued to be sick.

"Elena, are you okay?" Caroline called through the door.

She was incapable of speaking, her throat burning and her nausea kicking up a storm in her stomach, all she could do was hold her hair back with one hand whilst the other gripping onto the counter.

Thirty minutes had passed before she finally stopped, it became slower towards the end but her nausea hadn't truly stopped until now, her stomach still not quite right; she splashed cold water on her face before she thoroughly brushed her teeth and rinsed with mouthwash.

She exited the bathroom, everyone was still waiting for her, Elijah was in front of the door, his arms leaning onto the door frame, the rest where scattered about the landing and Bonnie and Caroline sat on the stairs. They all flooded at her the second she opened the door, "I'm okay, I don't know what happened."

She tried to laugh it off, acting more embarrassed than worried./p

"Are you sure you're okay?" Elijah spoke, he'd never seen her have so much as a sneeze but for her to become dizzy and vomit for 30 minutes was something he was concerned about, "Should I take you to a doctor?"

"No," She chuckled slightly, still weak from her sickness, "I probably just ate something weird when we where out today."

"But-" Rebekah went to speak but Caroline elbowed her in the back, cutting her sentence short; Rebekah turned to face her with a slight glare, Caroline just popped her eyes and smiled nervously, "Right, we ate those burgers, they didn't taste right."

"Urgh, yeah, they where horrible," Bonnie and Caroline agreed, Elena just shrugged her shoulders when Elijah turned to look at her.

"I could go lie down though," She smiled at him before grabbing his hand and leading them towards the bedroom.

"If you need anything just give us a shout," Bonnie called out after them.

"I will, thank you," With that, she shut the door behind her.

She took off her clothes, even though she had a good aim with the sink, she still thought they smelt like sick.

"I'm sorry if I overreact, I haven't seen you ill before," Elijah had pulled her into him gently and wrapped his arms around her, "Elena, you're temperature."

"What?" She said, pulling her head back to look him in the eyes but keeping her arms around him./p

"You don't feel that?" He questioned, his confusion rising, "Your whole body is on fire."

"I don't feel it," She suddenly began to feel nauseous again but this time, her stomach started to tighten, she grabbed onto her stomach and started to groan at the pain; she grabbed her dressing gown from the chair and ran back to the bathroom, just about making it to the toilet.

"As she vomited, her stomach pain grew to the point she was in tears; she had forgot to lock the door and Elijah came in behind her, he held her hair and kept her close.

In between sickness spells, she spoke the best she could, "I don't want you to see me like this."

"Shh," He stroked her head and kept catching the loose strands of her hair that fell onto her face, "It's okay."

She felt a forceful and painful cramp in her stomach and she screamed out.

Everyone had raced up the stairs and stood outside the bathroom.

"Elena, what is going on?" Caroline called through the door in a panicked state; Elena just nodded her head towards the door, hinting at Elijah to handle it.

"She's still being sick but her stomach seems to be causing her a significant amount of pain." Elijah spoke, his concern obvious.

"That's not normal," Bonnie spoke, as she looked between Rebekah and Caroline.

"We lied," Caroline admitted abruptly, "She didn't eat anything today."

There was another scream coming from the bathroom and Elijah returned to her within seconds, Elena had blood dripping from her lips and down her chin, she began to cough more droplets of blood; she was feeling faint again, her weakness starting to take over her.

"Come on, my love," Once he was sure she was finished vomiting, he lifted her gently and left the bathroom, she was in and out of consciousness and everyone was worried as hell.

"She needs a hospital." He exclaimed before carrying her downstairs.

"We'll meet you there," Klaus spoke as he gave him his car keys.

Elijah lay her on the back seat and drove as quickly as he could without aggravating her nausea; he was extremely scared, the repeated vomiting, the stomach pain and the blood left him fearing for her life; he had never been in a situation like this before.

Once they arrived at the hospital, he carried her out of the car and into the emergency department; she had blood soaked into her dressing gown and vomit had splashed onto it; the nurse attendants had approached them, "What happened?"

"I'm not sure; one minute she was fine and the next she was vomiting, complaining of nausea and then stomach pains that where causing her too grab at her stomach and scream, the blood happened 5 minutes later."

A male nurse had come running towards them with a bed, Elijah had lay her carefully down on the mattress and kissed her forehead, he didn't want to leave her side but they insisted, "We'll take it from here, I promise she's in good hands."

"What are you going to do to her?" He asked frantically.

"We're need to run some tests, as soon as we have an update, we'll find you in the waiting room," And just like that, they rolled her away; he watched as she became further and further away from her.

The rest of the gang had arrived ten minutes later; Elijah was in the waiting room, he had slung his blazer over the back of the seat, loosened his tie and undone his top two buttons, he continued to pace.

"Is Elena okay?" They practically all ran in asking the same question, Elijah just remained blank.

"I don't know yet, they haven't long took her, they need to run some tests." He spoke.

"Sit down, brother, we have to be patient, I'm sure she'll be okay," Rebekah grabbed his brothers arm and lead him to one of the chairs; she sat beside him and Klaus took the seat to the other side of him.

"She will be fine, Elijah, this is Elena, she can handle more than most of us," Klaus admitted, even his worry was obvious.

They all sat around waiting, Jeremy and The Salvatore's had turned up not long after Caroline had texted them to make them aware Elena had been hospitalised.

An hour had passed and still no word; Elijah was at the reception kicking up a storm, the only way he could handle him worry and impatience was too feel like he was doing something but he only ended up being warned to take a seat and there wasn't much he could to fight that in a hospital./p

They where all trying to comfort Elijah as much as they could but even they where getting impatient, Damon had shouted at every doctor that had passed, Caroline and Bonnie had tried appealing to there kinder sides and Klaus was close to ripping apart the waiting room.

Elijah and Jeremy sat together in silence, both of them had there head rested in there hands as the minutes dragged on, time had never been so slow.

Another hour had passed until finally, a male doctor had come through to the waiting room and approached them, "Are you all Elena Gilbert's family?"

They all shot up in a heartbeat, Elijah and Jeremy at the front of the group, "Yes."

"She's fine, little dehydrated and lacking food but she'll be okay," He spoke, a mass sigh of relief escaping each and every one of there lips, sudden smiles and slight cheering began, "Which one of you is the fiancee?"

"Me," Elijah responded, his concern creeping back.

"Would you come with me please? I'll take you through to her."

"Of course," He spoke as he followed him onto the ward, "What caused this?"

"I need to speak to you about that once we return to her room."

They walked for another minute or two; once again, those minutes felt like hours to him, especially since he wouldn't admit what was wrong with her.

They finally reached her room, a wide smile appeared on his lips at the sight of her, he was instantly by her side smothering her in small kisses all across her face, she giggled slightly, "I'm so sorry for scaring you."

"Don't apologise, I'm sorry I couldn't help you more." Elijah spoke, he grabbed onto her hand and saw a needle with a tube attached to it inserted into her hand, he gave her a look of sorrow, "What is this?"

"This is an IV, it's being used to secrete an anti-nausea medicine into her bloodstream, this way is a lot quicker and more effective at giving her the medicine, she has been given fluids and pain relief for her stomach pains."

"I feel so much better now, thank you," Elena spoke kindly, her hand clinging to Elijah's./p

"There is one more thing I need to speak to you both about," They broke there gaze and shot there look towards the doctor, there expressions completely changing at his words.

"It's nothing alarming," He paused for a second to double check the notes at the foot of her bed, "When we ran some initial tests on your arrival, the first one being a blood test."

"And?" Elena spoke abruptly, Elijah could hear her heart beating frantically, she was terrified, she'd always hated hospitals.

"That's what took us so long to get back to you, Mr. Mikaelson, we had to give her fluids and wait for her test results, it turns out your blood has high levels of HcG."

"What does that mean?" Elijah looked at Elena, she shook her head and clung to his hand harder.

"You're pregnant, Miss. Gilbert, congratulations." He smiled but his kindness was met with shocked expressions and confusion.

"That's impossible," Elena's eyes widened at his words, her lips parting at the shock.

"Well, it's all here, you're about 8 weeks along," He showed her the results on the notes, she doesn't understand a word of the medical terms but he had pointed towards the pregnancy test result.

"POSITIVE."

Elijah had been silent since he spoke the words 'you're pregnant', he was trying to process but he couldn't even fathom any of it.

"We would like to arrange an immediate ultrasound, we just want to check on the health of your baby after your stomach pains, the blood was caused by excessive vomiting and acid reflux, which also caused the coughing, you just strained yourself but we should still definitely still check."

"Thank you," She spoke slowly, still processing his words.

"Of course, I'll go arrange for a nurse to come and collect you and we'll take you onto the maternity ward; as this is an emergency situation, you'll be seen straight away."

Elena just nodded her head and ran her hand through her hair, pulling it back from her face, she just wanted him to leave the room, so she kept her answers short and vague, "That sounds great, thank you."

"If you need anything else, press the intercom button on the remote, it's at the side of the bed," He pointed towards it, Elena followed his finger and nodded once again; he smiled kindly at them before exiting the room.

There was silence.

"Elijah, please say something, I'm terrified and confused," Elena was going out of her mind, especially since Elijah didn't speak, "Please?"

"It's impossible," He muttered under his breath; he shook himself out of his shocked and blank state and slowly turned to look towards her, his hand still clung onto hers, "It can't be true."

"I can't be, we'll wait for the ultrasound, that'll prove the blood test was wrong," She spoke but wasn't met with a response.

They just waited in complete silence; Elijah had began pacing once again, his impatience growing with each minute that passed; Elena was nervous, she was playing with her fingers and staring off into the distance, as much as knew that this was impossible, just what if she was pregnant? Her mind began racing at a thousand miles per hour at all the different options and problems that go with this.

A male nurse entered the room and snapped her back to reality, he was pushing a wheelchair, "Miss. Gilbert, I'm here to take you to ultrasound."

"Yes, thank you." She smiled at him as he brought the wheelchair towards her, "If it's not a problem, I'd like to walk, I feel a million times better and could stretch mg legs."

"It's not usually permitted in case you take a turn again," He spoke.

"Just let her walk," Elijah spoke as he stared into his eyes, his pupils dilated and he had compelled the attendant.

"Elijah!" Elena spat before climbing out of bed and standing beside him, she had to grab the stand in which her IV was hooked onto but she still felt strong enough to yell at him, "You can't just compel a nurse, are you crazy?"

"Right now, I feel a little less sane than usual and we're not wasting time by arguing whether you can walk or not, let's go." Elijah was a bit more abrupt with her than he had been before, as much as she wanted to yell at him and argue this, she knew that this was because he too was scared and he was just handling it differently.

She took a deep breath and reached for his hand once again, he was slightly surprised that she had calmed so quickly, "Okay, let's go."

She was walking normally, the only thing that hindered her was her IV but she fine within herself; they followed the attendant through the hospital until they had reached the maternity ward, she was instantly taken into a suite; she lay down on the bed with the help of the female ultrasound technician.

"I'm just going to need to remove you're dressing gown," It was the hospital supplied one that all patients are given upon admittance, she removed it and lay it flat over her lower half under her stomach, she was still wearing her bra and underwear but nothing else, "That's perfect, thank you."

She reached for the doppler on the side of the ultrasound machine, Elijah remained holding onto her hand as he watched the technician carefully; she had picked up a bottle that contained a clear, gel like substance, "What is that?"

"It's just the gel we use," She smiled at his nervousness, "First time, huh?"

"Yes."

"That's okay, I understand your nerves," She spoke before squirting some the gel onto Elena's stomach, it felt cold as it landed on her skin, it almost made her shudder, "All we have to do now is use this on your fiancees stomach to get an image of the baby. Is this okay with you both?"

"I understand," Elijah stated but Elena just rolled her eyes at him and nudged him slightly, he was acting way to overprotective and like he had never been in a hospital before.

Then it occurred to her, he probably hadn't been.

"Miss?" She shot back to reality at the nurse speaking to her.

"Yes, of course, I'm sorry, I went to a whole other planet then," She chuckled lightly, trying to lighten the mood.

"No problem, here we go."

She placed the doppler onto Elena's stomach, her heart racing the entire time; she carefully watched the screen as she continued to move it around the different spaces on her stomach, she felt her cheeks flush with her nerves.

The technician turned the volume up on the machine and a sound like a beating echo emerged from it, "That's your baby's heartbeat."

"What?" Elena spoke, her voice low.

"It's a little tricky finding a baby so early on because at the moment, he or she is only very small, maybe about the size of a raspberry, it just takes a little bit longer," She reassured, "But the heartbeat is a good sign already."

Elena looked over towards Elijah, tears welling in her eyes causing her vision to blur; he was just staring at the screen, a lump formed in his throat at the sound, it was perfect to him.

"There we go," Elena looked back at the screen.

The nurse pointed at the screen at a small floating image, "That's your baby."

Elena squeezed Elijah's hand as hard as she could, her eyes shut because they had filled too much; when she opened them single tears trickled down her cheeks as she just stared at the screen.

"There's really a baby in there?" She questioned, her voice croaking slightly at the emotion that was flooding her.

"Definitely," The nurse had took an image of the baby before removing the doppler from Elena, she placed it back down and grabbed some paper towels from a dispenser on the wall next to her, she handed them to Elena, "You're all done, you can use this to wipe the gel away."

Elena was too busy staring at the image on the screen; all her concerns and all her problems went away the second she heard that heartbeat, she was so consumed with love.

She wiped away the gel as the nurse printed the image of the scan for her, she handed it to Elena and she held onto it, "Thank you so much."

A little while had passed and Elena had returned to her previous ward to get her IV removed, her vitals where great and now that she knew she pregnant, she had to take precautions as to not end up in the sickened state she was in previously. Elijah hadn't spoke since the scan, he had taken the picture from Elena and he just stared at it for a long time, everywhere they went within the hospital, he just looked at it.

Once they where free to go, Elena had changed into a set of clothes Bonnie had grabbed for her before they left; everyone was thrilled that she was okay, they spent a good thirty minutes hugging her and telling her how relieved they where but she couldn't concentrate, there was so much going on and all she wanted to do was go home.
