A few days had passed since Sara's visit, Elijah had finally calmed down about everything she had told them and had come to a place where he was accepting of what was to come, they would handle anything that would dare threaten the child or there family.

The only thing Elijah couldn't handle: Wedding planning.

"We only have one day left until the big wedding, guys!" Caroline called out across the mansion, she had a clipboard in one hand and a cell phone in the other.

Everyone was involved, there was roughly 15 people in the mansion all setting up the wedding whilst others dealt with early preparation of food and drink.

Elena was sat at the table in the kitchen with Bonnie, they where going over all the details to make sure nothing would be forgotten.

"Invites have been returned, everyone has sent there RSVP and some have began arriving, checking into local hotels and motels, mostly Elijah's friends, your guests already live here, as you know." Bonnie spoke, a small chuckle escaping there lips, "We've almost finished setting up the chairs and flowers in the back, great choice on marrying here, the scenery is beautiful, very romantic. All the formal wear for everyone involved in the wedding has arrived, they're safely covered and hanging in yours and Elijah's room, will you be sleeping together tonight or will you be sleeping apart?"

"I put some thought into this and I'm not very much into tradition, me and Elijah decided to sleep together tonight." She smiled at her best friend, she was rocking the wedding planning, "I'm so glad I have you, Bon, I'd be lost without you."

"What are maid of honours for?" She smiled kindly at her before they both engaged in a quick hug but quickly back to business, "I have put a protective spell on the mansion, so no-one is getting in here without an invite, witches included, Damon will see to guests when they arrive; whilst the wedding is happening, I have hired a few guys to set up the party inside and I think that's it."

"It's all perfect, thank you." Elena smiled happily, excited to finally be marrying the man of her dreams, surrounded by all her loved ones.

"I can't believe you're getting married," Bonnie just looked at her best friend, emotion starting to fill her, "We always spoke about this day when we where little and now you're doing it and you have a baby coming, I couldn't be happier for you."

"Don't cry," Elena watched as she saw a single tear roll from Bonnie's eye and she couldn't fight back the wave of emotion that washed over her, "You're going to make me cry."

"You deserve the life you want, Elena, you've already been through so much," Bonnie took her hand in her own, more tears appearing, "Your happiness is all I care about."

"I'm so glad I have you by my side through all of this, I couldn't have asked for a better best friend," She wrapped her arms around Bonnie, engaging in a long hug.

After a long afternoon of a busy household and a lot of wedding preparations, Elena had become overwhelmed, she couldn't sit comfortably anywhere or even find a quiet place to think, she had approached Elijah who was hiding from it all in the bedroom, still aggravated by the noise.

"Can we go out?" Elena asked as she appeared in the doorway, leaning against the frame, a kind smile spread across her lips, "I'm starved, want dinner?"

"Of course, anything to leave this house," He returned her smile with a slight chuckle escaping his lips also, he grabbed his blazer from the closet and left the bedroom, Elena walking beside him as they walked through the mansion and straight out the front door.

They climbed in the car, Elijah opening the door and helping her in as always; he put the keys in the car and started it, beginning the drive, "Where would you like to eat, my love?"

"I actually have a huge craving for a cheeseburger," Her mouth was practically watering, "With bacon and lots of onion."

"So, the grill, then?" Elijah laughed softly, steering the car in the right direction.

"You know me so well," She returned the laugh and got comfortable in her seat.

"I should hope so, we are going to be married tomorrow," Elijah couldn't help but smile anytime the wedding would be mentioned, he was eager to marry the love of his life.

"I can't wait to be your wife," Her heart warmed, "I hope I don't disappoint you when we are married."

"You could never," Elijah seemed slightly shocked at her words and how sudden they where, she'd never mentioned anything like that before, "What makes you say that?"

"I just don't want to fail as your wife, I've never been someones wife before and I don't really know what to do," She laughed at how silly she may have seemed speaking that, "It's not coming out right."

"I think I understand, I feel the same way occasionally," Elijah spoke, his ears wide open but his eyes still on the road, "I only ever want what you want from life and I don't want you to stray from that because we will be married, I don't expect anything from you in terms of being a wife but I do want to be a good husband to you."

"I want what we want, Elijah, that's the whole point of being married, to share in each others dreams and happiness, we have to make decisions together and compromise where we can't, I hope I'm a good wife to you also," Elena looked down towards her stomach, her hand placed over her little bump, "We're going to be a family and our baby will always come first to me, my decisions will always be based on what's best for her and you and our family as whole."

"I completely agree," When Elijah arrived at the grill, he parked in the car park and shifted in his seat slightly towards her, placing a soft kiss on her hand, "This is all I've ever wanted, our family will always come first."

"I have no doubts at all in my mind, you already make me so happy and marrying you will only make everything better," She kissed him softly on the lips, her hand now playing with his hair, "Come on, I'm starving."

She chuckled slightly before they exited the car and entered the grill, Elena had gone to the bathroom whilst Elijah ordered there food; when she exited the bathroom, she saw Elijah sitting in one of the quiet booths at the back and she joined him.

"Something feels really strange tonight," She spoke as she sat beside him, her eyes scanning the surrounding area.

"What do you mean?" Elijah was suddenly on edge at her words, "Did something happen?"

"No, everything's fine, I just feel really strange," She tried to shake it from her mind and put all of her attention on him, "It's like something inside me is telling me that something is wrong and it only happened when we got here, I was fine all day."

"Maybe we should leave," Just as Elijah went to stand, Elena grabbed his hand and shook her head.

"It's probably just because of the baby and hormones, I'm always on the defence these days, I'm overreacting," She shot him a kind and reassuring smile before kissing him on the cheek, "We'll have our food and go home, is that okay with you?"

"Yes, of course," He wasn't reassured and he was definitely being cautious, he had learnt to never doubt Elena's instincts, she was usually always right.

Once food had arrived, Elena had began eating like she'd never had a burger before, being pregnant was really making her hungry.

"I actually feel embarrassed eating in front of you these days but I can't help it," She laughed before taking another bite, "Our baby is always hungry."

"I love watching you eat, I sometimes forget what it's like to enjoy food; even though I eat normal food, it doesn't fully satisfy like it does a human," Elijah explained, "And you're pregnant, you can eat as savagely as you like, I won't judge."

"I could eat five of these burgers right now without even breaking a sweat," They both laughed, it was nice to be in each others company away from all the hectic wedding business in the mansion.

Whilst Elena finished her burger, they engaged in light conversation; Elijah had told her about some of the guests he had invited tomorrow, telling her all about the people he had met during his time on this earth and she was excited to meet them.

She was just finishing her fries and then her milkshake, she had to run to the bathroom one last time before they left, Elijah waited at the entrance to the bar for her; once she returned, she took him by the arm and he led her out of the building and towards the car.

Just as he opened the door and she was about to climb in, a car that was parked behind them had switched the front lights on, the glare of the light causing them to squint there eyes and look away; she just looked at Elijah, neither of them liked this and within a split second, the car had started and revved towards them, just before it could hit Elena, Elijah had used his speed to grab her and take her aside, placing her outside the entrance to the grill, the car had smashed into the back of theirs.

"What was that?" Elena asked frantically, her hand pressed against her stomach the entire time.

"I don't know, go inside and wait for me, scream if anything happens," Elena nodded her head at Elijah's words and ran inside, standing at the bar where there was several people sitting and the bartender had seen her.

Elijah had instantly approached the car, the hood had been damaged and smoke emerging from the engine; he walked around to the drivers side but the door was already open, he had suspected they would have left; he looked around and saw nothing in sight, the car didn't even have a license plate, whoever this was had planned this.

He searched the entire car quickly only to find nothing, he entered the grill once again, taking his phone from his pocket as he walked.

"Are you okay, Elena?" He asked.

"I'm fine, did you find anything?" She was still slightly shaken by it all, she knew there was something strange about tonight, she could feel it.

"Nothing," He punched in his brothers number, "But I will find out who did this and I will kill them."

He hit the call button on his phone and pressed the speaker to his ear, "Niklaus, will you come and pick Elena and myself up from the grill? Someone just tried to kill Elena."

Once they had arrived back at the mansion, it was empty; everyone was furious, Klaus had been trying to remain calm for Elena's sake but once they had returned, he was angry.

Rebekah, Caroline and Bonnie had been consumed with a mix of emotions; worried, confused, enraged but most of all, concern. Once Elena had entered the room, they where all by her side checking to see if she was unharmed and alright, she reassured them as much as she could but she was still a bit shaken.

"Do we have any idea who done this?" Klaus spat.

"I didn't see a thing, if I did, he would be long dead." Elijah responded, his fury was kept within; he didn't want too add to the tension in the room, Elena knew how he felt, she could see it in his body language, he was tense.

"All I saw was a bright light then Elijah moved me out the way," Elena said, "We should have known something like this would happen, everything was going to well."

"What do you mean, my love?" Elijah spoke before sitting next to her on the sofa.

"Well, it's been weeks since we found out about the baby, the wedding planning has gone smoothly and we've been happy," She spoke, her eyes welling up slightly but she refused to let her tears escape, "We should have known."

In that moment, Elijah was speechless, he didn't know how to comfort her because on some level, she was right, something always has to happen when everything is good.

"I'm not going to let anyone ruin this weeding," Caroline exclaimed, "We've worked too damn hard to let anyone ruin it."

"Me either," Rebekah responded,

"You know I'm going to say the same thing," Bonnie smiled at her best friend, "I'll up the magic and keep everyone on alert, nothing is going to happen during your wedding."

Elena was touched by the love around her, "Thank you."

"Now, go get some beauty sleep, we'll take shifts tonight and keep an eye on you and the mansion, no-one will get past us," Rebekah smiled warmly at Elena before encouraging her to go upstairs by pulling her off the sofa gently and walking her towards the stairs, "Goodnight."

"Fine, we're going," She laughed slightly as she walked up the stairs, Elijah following closely behind her, "Thank you for all this, goodnight, everyone,

Once they where upstairs, she just sat on the bed and burst out into tears; he wrapped his arms around her and held her close.

"I promise we'll find whoever did this, you and our child are completely safe," He reassured, his fingers now stroking her cheek and wiping the tears away.

"It's not just that, it's probably just hormones but I'm feeling very overwhelmed, I don't want this life for our baby,"

"Nor do I," A small sigh escaped his lips, "We can still leave."

"What if we do and all this trouble follows us? We'll have less back up and we'll be completely isolated from all of our loved ones,"

"I know, you're right, I'm so sorry this is happening," He placed a soft kiss on her head, his fingers now entangled in her hair.

"I can't talk about this anymore, I don't want to spend our wedding night crying, let's just get in bed and change the subject," She stood from the bed and removed all of her clothes, throwing on one of the Elijah's white shirts and burying herself under the covers.

"I like how you look in my shirt," His smile crooked and seductive.

"No way, we're waiting until we're officially married now, we have to keep at least one tradition," She laughed playfully before pulling him onto the bed and wrapping herself in him, her legs tangled around his and her head rested on his chest, "I'm so excited to be your wife."

"I can't wait too spend the rest of my life with you," He leaned into her and kissed her passionately on the lips, his hands placed on her back and pulling her in closer, "And our child."

She felt his hand move around to her stomach and rest there, "Sounds perfect."
