Elena awoke the next day with a heart full of love; the sun was shining brightly and she lay next to the most perfect man she had ever encountered, her husband and father to her child, Elijah. She couldn't wait to begin there married life together, she often wondered how she had become so lucky
She climbed out of bed and entered the bathroom, proceeding with her normal morning routine; shower, teeth and hair styling before dressing and exiting the bedroom; she left Elijah to rest, it had been a trying time for him recently and he was always on high alert when it came to protecting her and there child.
Elena often found her thoughts wandering to all the dangers they faced together when it came to understanding and protecting there child; there was so much she didn't know and she feared there may be someone or something out there wanting to take there child away from her.
She had prepared and poured herself a mug of coffee, decaf of course and sat down at the kitchen table, still completely in awe at there new house, it was bigger than anything else she had knew and it was perfect, decorated very elegantly and suited there needs to a T, she hadn't even seen the upstairs properly yet.
She reached for her phone that was placed on the table opposite her and opened up her messages, she found Bonnies conversation and began to write a text:
"Hey Bon, how is everything? Any news?"
She placed her phone back down and sipped at her coffee whilst she awaited a response, her mind wandering once more to the fear that lay in her heart, she only wished for her anxiety to wash away and allow her to enjoy her new life as a wife and her pregnancy.
Her train of thought was broken when her phone vibrated against the table, she picked it up and opened the text:
"All is fine at the minute, I have a few calls to make that I missed from yesterday during the wedding to a couple of local covens and Klaus is with Damon, they're trying to find a lead in who attacked you outside the grill. I'll keep you updated. And don't worry Elena, enjoy today, we got you.
Elena smiled at her words, she felt so blessed to have such an amazing family surrounding her; she placed her hand on her stomach and looked down at her small bump, it still felt surreal that she was carrying a baby but her heart couldn't help but warm everytime she thought about it and that was a lot!
Suddenly, she felt a wave of unknown feelings wash over her that caused her to lose a breath; she looked around the room and as her gaze circled, the several candles placed around the kitchen counter became lit, she jumped slightly as they continued to burn slowly.
She stood from the kitchen table in a frenzy and ran straight into the living room, her hand still grasping her stomach, her need to protect overcoming her, "who's there?"
Elijah had awoken when he had heard her speak and came straight to her side; they both stood in the centre of the living room as they carefully scanned the room. Elijah had done a quick run through of the house and returned to her with reassurance.
"Elena, what did you see?" He asked, as he took her free hand in his and held onto it tightly.
"The candles in the kitchen.." she paused slightly and lead Elijah into the kitchen, all 3 candles where still lit, "I was just having my morning coffee and they just lit themselves."
"That's strange," Elijah spoke confusingly, "there is no-one in the house, Elena, maybe it was Bonnie, have you spoke to her this morning?"
"Yeah, I texted her a few minutes before it happened," her brow furrowed in confusion, "she did tell me not to worry today, maybe she done this to help me relax, although it had the complete opposite effect."
"I can't think of anything else that could have occurred," Elijah pulled her into a loving embrace and stroked her hair, "you have nothing to worry about, my love."
"I guess you're right," she smiled kindly at him and placed a soft kiss on his lips, "oh and good morning, Mr. Mikaelson."
They both chuckled lightly, "good morning to you, Mrs. Mikaelson."
"I'm sorry I keep waking you like this, one day I will wake you with breakfast in bed," she spoke, a small laugh escaping her lips.
"I was supposed to do that today but you woke so early," he responded.
"You can thank our beautiful child for that," she laughed slightly and pointed towards her stomach, "she keeps giving me heartburn in the night, it's so painful."
They both continued to laugh and enjoy each other's company; there first morning spent as a married couple consisted of cooking together, lounging around the house and relaxing in the back garden, taking in all the goodness of the sun and the nature that now surrounded them.
When the afternoon arrived, they decided to take a small walk around the park in the centre of Mystic Falls before grabbing a quick lunch in the grill, after the other night, she had no intention of staying longer than she had too, she was too weary of another attack.
They went to the cinema and caught a movie together, everything about this day had been so normal; After the movie had finished, they both went to the market and picked up a few things for dinner, Elena had insisted on cooking them a romantic dinner tonight to celebrate everything they had overcome, it was the perfect way to end there first day as a married couple.
They arrived home not long after and Elena was in the kitchen, she had an apron on and knife in hand whilst she chopped a bunch of vegetables. Elijah was sat at the table with his head buried in a book, Elena loved to watch him doing something he enjoyed, it had been so long since he was able to just relax.
"Are you sure you wouldn't like some help, my love?" He spoke, his eyes averting from his book to her.
"No, thank you for offering but I got it," she smiled as she continued to chop, "I have never cooked for you and I want it to be perfect."
He shot her a kind smile before returning his attention to the book. She had finished chopping the vegetables and had placed them all into a large crockpot along side a large cut of beef and potatoes; she added some herbs and the final broth before placing it in the oven. A beef pot roast, the perfect meal to have on a cold and romantic night in.
She set a 2 hour timer on her phone and removed the apron, taking a seat next to Elijah at the table, "shouldn't be too long, I hope you're hungry."
"I can't wait," he placed his book down on the table and turned his full attention to her; they had sat together for the full 2 hours deep in conversation, before her timer had began ringing and she had to continue the meal preparations.
She removed the pot from the oven and placed it on the side, she switched the oven off and lifted the lid, a cloud of steam had escaped and burned her skin slightly, Elijah had instantly gone to her side in case she was hurt but she was trying to laugh it off.
"You can tell I just never cook," she continued to laugh, "don't worry, I'm okay, now go sit down and I'll bring everything over in a few minutes,"
"Please be careful," he smirked at her before returning to the table, an amused expression still spread across his facial features.
She shook it off and grabbed a couple of plates from the cupboard, she placed them on the side and began setting everything out, she had carved the beef and placed them on the plates, followed by some vegetables and potatoes, she had grabbed a label from the kitchen drawer and poured some gravy over the food.
"That smells incredible, Elena," Elijah spoke, exciting to try her cooking for the first time.
"Hopefully it tastes just as good," a small laughing escaped her lips as she prepared the last few details, she grabbed the candles from the side and placed them in the centre of the table, followed by two wine glasses, one filled with red wine for Elijah and the other with water, the last thing she needed was cutlery, she grabbed 2 sets from the drawer and placed them down on the table.
"I'm so nervous for you to try this," she exclaimed, a nervous chuckle escaping her lips, "it could be terrible and then you're stuck with a wife who can't cook."
"It looks amazing and it smells amazing, Elena, don't doubt yourself," his words of encouragement had warmed her heart and she released her nerves in attempt to enjoy the meal she had prepared.
She picked the two plates up and walked towards the table, she placed one in front of Elijah, he was sat at the top of the table and she took her seat next to him, her meal now placed in front of her.
Elena watched as he picked up the knife and fork and began to cut at the beef and continued to eat it, his face lit up and he turned to face her, "Elena this is amazing, you've outdone yourself."
"You really like it?" She repeated, a sense of accomplishment washing over her, happy that she can actually cook to his liking, "I'm thrilled!"
They both continued to eat and enjoy the end of there first day as a married couple; Elena had been on edge most of the day, worried that something would come along to ruin it but she got to spend it so normally with the love of her life and this was all she could have ever dreamed off.
What she wasn't expecting was how tomorrow would be the first day that everything was going to come crashing down around her and turn there lives completely upside down.
