Heeeey everyone, guess who isn't dead? That's right, it's me. I bet you thought you'd never hear from me on fanfiction ever again but here I am with a new one-shot series to kick off the new year of 2022, and what better shot than one of the new year?

I know this one's pretty short but I haven't written even one paragraph over the last few years so I'm taking it slowly for now. And yes, FanFiction will say this was uploaded on the 2nd, but for my timezone it's still the 1st so happy new year fellas.

"One minute to new year's, kids!" Rafael Diaz said, glancing over from cleaning up the kitchen from their recent meal, at Star and Marco curled up under a blanket. "Who's ready for another year of Diaz family vacations?"

"We are!" Star and Marco both cheered, while Mariposa cooed happily from Rafael's arms. The two teens turned their attention back to the television in front of them, which was broadcasting the news which was preparing for the new year countdown.

Star scooted herself a bit more into Marco's side, wrapping an arm around him as she began using his shoulder as her personal pillow. "Hey, Marco?" She said.

"Yeah?"

"Can you believe it's been another year together already?"

Marco thought about it, and realized she was right. It had already been three years ago that they had confessed their feelings for each other and stopped Mina's Solarian army. They were both 17 now and it wouldn't be long before they'd have to start preparing for college.

"Now that you mention it, the time really does seem to fly, huh?" He said to himself, as much as he was saying to her. Star simply nodded.

"They say that the couples who are together on new year's stay together," Angie remarked, making her way past the two and into the kitchen to help Rafael with the cleaning. Marco rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, but that's just a myth anyway," he said. "Not even magic can change how people feel and even if it could it's been gone for a while now."

"And if it was true, I'd still be with Tom," Star added, recalling the couple of new years they had shared together while they were still dating. "He's a nice guy and all, and a great friend, but I prefer my roses to not be on fire." Marco snickered quietly under his breath, recalling a time before they had gotten together where Tom had indeed brought her some flaming roses, and she most certainly didn't like it. Then again, that was probably at least partially due to the fact her hair had caught on fire when Tom had so kindly decided to put one of those flaming roses in her hair for her.

"Well, maybe it is true, but only for those who are meant to be together," Rafael suggested.

"Now that just sounds like regular soulmates but with extra steps," Marco chuckled, quiet enough that only Star could hear him, causing her to laugh with him.

"10…"

Everyone turned their attention to the TV screen as the countdown began and the ball began to drop.

"9… 8…"

"Well, either way, there's only one person I'd want to spend my new years with," Star said, gazing towards Marco.

"7… 6… 5…"

"Yeah," Marco said, "same here."

"4… 3… 2…"

"It's you," they said together.

"1…"

As the cheers of 'happy new year' echoed throughout the living room, both from the TV and Marco's parents, the couple's lips met as they shared a passionate kiss, ready for whatever the new year would bring.

Yeah, short I know, and I'm rusty so it may not be all that great either, but I got less than 15 minutes before it's no longer new years and I can't think of anything else so it's going up.

I'll put a cover image on the story later.
