Now onto the story.

Darts in the Wind

"I can't believe how much we got already." Melanie laughed.

Jessica grinned as Stacey joined in Melanie's laughter, Stacey then paused to adjust the multiple shopping bags she was carrying. Melanie carrying a similar number of bags, while Jessica only carried a couple of bags in one hand. She had a reputation amongst her friends being a discerning shopper, buying only the best, compared to their willingness to splurge on anything that they desperately wanted, in this case clothes.

'Of course that's not the actual truth, I couldn't bear it if they knew the truth...I know how they'd react.' She thought ruefully to herself.

She didn't let any of it show on her face however, thinking instead of the big night as it was already forming in her mind. She was already looking forward to seeing Eric's face when they got right down to it.

"So, Jess." Stacey cut in her thoughts. "We're almost back at the shop we checked out earlier, you gonna buy that orange skirt this time, it looked so cute on you."
Jess shrugged. "I don't know, maybe, the lining was pretty itchy."

The other two girls nodded sympathetically. The truth was that the lining was only mildly itchy, but the skirt cost so much. They paused for a moment as they reached the doors of the mall, getting ready to leave.

As they did so, Stacey checked her bags again.

"These should be plenty of outfits, so many cute ones. Oh there'll definitely be something here for Saturday night." She remarked.

Melanie laughed. "Yeah, Lacey's parties are always big news, gotta look our best, right?"

"Yeah." Jessica agreed. "We also know that at least Lacey makes sure that everyone there will be the right people, compared to Jennifer Hayes and that party she held."

Stacey scoffed. "Urgh, don't remind me, so many losers, especially the nerd squad."

"Yeah...well, I'm sure you'll have fun." Jessica remarked.

"Yeah, wait." Stacey remarked before realizing. "What are you talking about, you'll be there too girl."

"Nope, other plans." Jessica confirmed with a smirk that was just that little bit mysterious.

"Other plans?" Melanie asked, gulping the bait.

"Eric and I are getting together."

Stacey shrugged. "So bring him to the party."

Jessica shook her head at how dense she was. "I promised him we'd be alone for once."

Melanie's eyes lit up. "Ohh, gonna take it to the next level?"

"Maybe." Jessica replied ambiguously. "It's a thought."

Stacey frowned, clearly put out. This was what Jessica had meant in her thoughts back on Tuesday about the girls being freakishly needy, Stacey was the worst.

At that moment something happened which made Stacey brighten up.

"Ah...look, it's the nerd squad."

Jessica looked up, startled. Sure enough it was them, Michael Wheeler, Lucas Sinclair, Dustin Henderson and Will Byers.

"Well, well, look who we have here." She teased upon seeing them.

They all rolled their eyes, much to Jessica's annoyance, they should be respecting their betters after all, right.

"Hey." Stacey cut them off as they tried to push past. "You're not going anywhere until we're done and to treat a lady like that is rude."

Dustin shrugged. "Oh well, guess we're lucky we didn't treat any ladies that way."

"You-!"

Jessica shook her head at Stacey before speaking up.

"Well, look at you all, acting as if you've got something to be showing off for. But I don't see your little stress reliever." She remarked.

She took joy in the looks of confusion on their faces.

She now threw her second dart.

"Yeah, the little redhead, Mayfield." She remarked. "I mean, she's helping you all right, fucking all of you to help you get over that stress of not getting a girlfriend of your own for being pathetic nerds."

"You-!"

To her surprise, it was Sinclair who reacted the largest, looking outraged. But it had the desired effect, by implying that the boys only kept Max around for sexual favours it clearly angered them.

Stacey burst out laughing at this as Melanie added. "Yeah, good point, where is she anyway, speaking of, where's the other girl, Jane? Guess Maxine couldn't handle you all herself and so you got a new model?"

More outrage from the boys which just made Jessica laugh, but to her surprise there was once again a larger reaction.

This time from Wheeler. "Don't you dare talk about El like that!"

That surprised her. 'Wow, what is...hmmm, could Wheeler actually have some crush on Jane Hopper...interesting, but still irritating.'

So she decided to throw another dart, this time to put a bit of extra work against Mike, hopefully this would enough to remind them of their place and how they should be respecting them.

"Then again, maybe she's doing favours for others, right?" She teased.

She almost wanted to laugh at the way Mike went red, looking outraged but unable to do anything about it. She noticed that her words had cut deep if the look in his eyes were anything to go by. Satisfied she nodded to the girls and pushed past the boys before walking off.

As they walked she began to consider, while she was able to put the boys in their place, the reactions she had seen were making her concerned. But before she could worry about it, the girls provided a distraction.

"Ha, of course we all know only three of those boys are getting any action from their stress relievers, right." Stacey was joking.

Melanie laughed. "Yeah, oh poor Jennifer Hayes, I can't wait to see her face when she learns Will Byers really is gay, I mean, c'mon."

Jessica merely smirked at that. Her mind going back to her problem.

'The way Wheeler acted when I spoke about Jane, that look in his eye...is that how Eric feels about her, is she still such a threat to my relationship with Eric.'

She had to admit, the very thought was concerning to her and made her wonder at the possibilities before her.
