"I don't approve it." Mado said dismissively.
"But—" Haise entreated.
"Protecting a civilian just because you are a fan?" Mado looked at him. "You should have sent her away immediately and not allowed her to take notes on the crime scene. I'm disappointed, Sasaki."
"She said she was an ex-Cochlea warden."
Mado stopped. "And you said her name was Christy?" Mado frantically searched the files on her computer. "Miko…"
"Miko?"
Mado looked up at him. "I want you to pursue this case. Try to get her to reveal herself. To seal a kagune in front of you."
"Even if it's mine?!" Haise was taken aback.
"Absolutely." Mado said. "We can't afford to take any chances. Miko went completely off the grid after… she went off the grid two years ago."
"All right!" Despite the reasons, this meant Haise could see his favorite writer in action!

"'Death is the wish of some, the relief of many, and the end of all'," Christy quoted. "Seneca said that. I think it is likely that Yukimura's death was a relief of her suffering. And thus this funeral is only sad for us, those left behind."
She bowed, and left the podium, going to Haise's side "You came."
"Of course." He said simply, though he had his doubts.
"So Mado said yes."
Haise stiffened. "How did you—"
"I told you I used to work there." Christy smiled.
"You know my boss?" Haise said uncertainly. Was she Miko?
"Of course." Christy smirked. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have a job to do."
She flounced off, zeroing in on the deceased's college professor.
"Hello sir." Christy said softly. "It's so terrible, what happened. But she said such lovely things about you, sir."
"She was such a devoted student." Enishi replied.
"I was wondering if you have room in your class…"
"I see, so you are interested in my ghoul research?" Enishi looked her over, obviously checking her out.
Haise's fist clenched. He wasn't sure why.
"Very." Christy whispered huskily.
"I see…" Enishi smiled predatorily. "Well you might not be able to catch up…"
"Is there anything I can do?" Christy asked eagerly. "I'll do anything!"
Enishi put a finger to her lips. "You shouldn't say that. But I do have a study group tonight." He handed her a card. "I'll be waiting." He kissed her cheek.
Christy looked up at him adoringly.
Haise thought he was going to be sick.
Christy ran over to him, flushed. "I got him! You're coming right?"
"If I must." Haise said through gritted teeth.
Christy laughed. "Unclench those teeth, its just acting. He's such a sleaze."
Haise relaxed, but only a little. "I still don't like it." He held out a CCG tracker. "Keep this on you. Press it if he gives you trouble in there. I'll be right outside, but…" He lifted her chin, forcing her to look him in the eyes. "Don't. Be. Alone. With him."
Christy swallowed, intimidated for some reason, and nodded wordlessly.
