"Haise, I thought you'd want to hear about this immediately." Mado sat at her desk, looking pensive. That was always a bad sign.

"Who died?" Haise asked, resigned.

"No, it's the Gourmet."

"He's dead?" Haise said hopefully.

"He's been exonerated." Mado said. "Apparently there is no sign whatsoever that he is a ghoul. Every test we've done comes back negative. So the Gourmet has been taken off our list."

"He's a human?!" Haise said scornfully. "I'm sorry but no. No."

He stormed out, looking for solace in Christy.

When he got to here apartment, she was bouncing in joy. "My sister wrote her very own book!"

She passed it to him. "It's called Wronged Man. It's about her boyfriend Tsukiyama who was wrongly accused of being a—"

"Ghoul, I know." Haise snarled. "That's because he IS one."

Nevermind how familiar and disgusted he was, this was absolutely fucked up.

Haise stood. "I need to get some air."

Christy grabbed his arm. "I had hoped you'd come with me to his party. As…my date."

Haise whirled, momentarily distracted. "And that's what you really want?"

"Of course!" Christy grinned. "As long as you arent going to be hostile to Tsukiyama."

Haise fought the urge to snarl again. "No, I won't. I'd actually like to see this for myself."

How was Tsukiyama fooling them? He'd read the report. Blood had been taken directly from his arm, tested right there in front of him. There was no way for him to interfere.

Were ghouls finding a way back to humanity?
