Prelude to the Unexpected
She was ready, that she was sure of. She had picked out her best underwear, done some light makeup to highlight her features and soon pulled on the sweater and shirt she had picked out beforehand. A pair of well-chosen ruffled ankle socks and her best black mary-jane shoes. She stopped and checked herself one last time in the mirror, she was right, the tightness of the sweater accented her chest while the skirt looked shorter on her, combined with her choice of socks and shoes, it gave a very generous view of her legs.
'No way he'll be able to resist this.'
"Jeez girl, you look great already." Phoebe teased as she stepped in. "So, you going or what?"
Jessica laughed. "Alright, alright. In a hurry to get rid of me?"
She shook her head and picked up the box of condoms from her bedside drawer, stowing them in her purse.
"Alright, now I'm ready."
Phoebe smirked. "Alright then, good luck and give me the deets later. I'll make sure you don't have to deal with mom and dad."
Jessica grinned at that and, once Phoebe got to work distracting their parents, she made her way out of the house and smiled, taking a deep breath of the crisp autumn air, immediately making her way towards the college, ready for her night with Eric.

"Okay, okay…" Eric muttered to himself as he finished checking around.
He had done a final check of his now clean room to make sure he hadn't missed anything. Everything was in order, all the stuff he'd planned to clean up were clean and stored safely, the clothes were all back neatly in their drawers, the floor was vacuumed, he'd washed the sheets again. But he was still paranoid at the possibility of some issue lingering. His main concern was there might still be a lingering odour in the room, so he'd bought a scented candle. Keeping in mind the nature of what was to occur tonight, he'd been careful, picking out one that was advertised to smell like vanilla. He lit it at that moment and after giving it a chance, he sniffed the air.
'Okay, that's a relief.' He thought to himself. 'Alright, this is it, we're really gonna…'
He grinned, savouring the sweet smell, gently stroking the front of his softest shirt, paired with a pair of neat pants. He couldn't understand himself sometimes, why he had taken such intense care with his clothes when the whole point of the night was they'd be removed as quickly as possible.
He took a deep breath. 'Gotta get my head on straight, can't have any distractions tonight...need to focus on…'
He paused as he listened, the emptiness of dorm was almost eerie. Then he heard the knock at the door of the common room and left his dorm room, ready to answer it, knowing exactly who it was, yet in the back of his mind was a slight niggling disappointment that it wasn't someone else.

El sighed as she looked at herself in the mirror. This wasn't going to work, she didn't look nice at all. It was the downside of having only a limited wardrobe.
'I know we're only going to meet to talk, but I still think I should put the effort in, try to look good for Eric, so he can see the best of me when we do.' She thought to herself. 'But I'll never pull it off like this…'
She owned all of three dresses, she had tried each one, including the one she was wearing right now, but all of them just didn't look right. Didn't fit the image she was going for. She glanced at the clock.
She grimaced. '8 already...I've got to hurry if I want to get there in time...urgh, forget this. I should just be comfortable, it's just a talk...right?'
She shook her head and pulled the dress off, she had stealthily made preparations, brushing her teeth at least twice, making sure that, when she showered, she took a little extra time. She just hoped Hopper was none the wiser as she simply pulled on a simple T-shirt and overalls, her usual look and once her sneakers were on she took a deep breath and listened. She could hear the sounds of the game on the TV and knew that Hopper was still there, watching it. Or rather, that's how it was supposed to appear, he was really keeping an eye out for her.
'He still won't listen or let me go...sorry, I've got no choice.' She reflected.
Making sure she had the watch, but praying she wouldn't need it, knowing she'd get in trouble after all, El slid the window open. Listening carefully, noting that Hopper wasn't moving, still watching the game, she slipped out the window and, now outside, began to hurry for the college.

Saturday, just after eight, Mike Wheeler sighed sadly.
'El's probably already on her way to the college to see Eric Gibson...then…' His mind raced and he tried to calm himself.
He took a deep breath and turned away from looking out the window. For once he could focus on these worries and not have to fear anything else. His dad was out that night, so there would be no fights tonight. Not that it made things any easier for him, leading him to simply worry about this situation with El instead. While he didn't see Eric as someone who would hurt anyone, he still didn't think he'd be a good match for El.
He mentally chastised himself. 'Urg, listen to yourself Michael Wheeler, that's the jealousy talking…'
He was startled by the sound of the doorbell. Confused he made his way downstairs, hearing his mother already going to answer the door. When he reached the bottom of the stairs he was just as surprised as her.
"Michael…" She said at last. "You have guests."
Standing there was Will, Lucas, Dustin and Max.
"Um, yeah...Hey guys." He greeted.
They entered and Karen shut the door behind them and headed back to the living room.
Will then explained. "We thought you could use some distraction. We know you're worried about tonight."
"So we thought why not come around for an impromptu game night." Max finished.
Mike couldn't help but smile at that, appreciating his friends more than ever as they headed down to the basement.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
