Meetings and Plans
Mike's mind was still racing as he tried to think how to approach this subject as he began making his way back towards the school, knowing it would be let out soon.
'How do I tell them about...everything that happened. They'll be really worked up when they find out we ditched school and didn't tell them, I know that much.' He mused to himself.
He didn't have time for much more thought because at that moment a familiar voice sounded.
"Mike Wheeler!"
He grimaced, looking up to see the others approaching, an irate looking Max in the lead, it had been Max who called his name.
"Where the hell have you been?" She snapped as they all reached him. "And where the hell is El?"
Dustin shook his head. "Honestly dude, we were looking everywhere and then we realized you guys ditched, not cool."
"I just-"
"The Principal called the chief and your parents Mike." Lucas then revealed. "You realize how messed up this is, it's-"
Will then cut Lucas off. "Guys, how are we supposed to learn what we wanna know if we don't let Mike answer?"
The others took the hint and quietened down, Mike smiled lightly.
"Thanks Will." He remarked before sighing. "Well, this is gonna take some explaining. After second period, EL told me she had got the second task, she had to follow its instructions and wait till second period before going to do it. It required her to leave school as we had to go to Tatiana's home."
"Wait, what?" Dustin gasped.
He nodded and the others looked even more startled at that.
Mike continued, explaining everything that happened there and after and how, after receiving the fourth task, El had sent him away to come and meet them here.
"So, all this time you guys have been-?" Will whispered.
Mike nodded. "Yeah, I just hope El's alright. I don't get why she wouldn't let me help her after helping her with the other two tasks."
Max shook her head. "Seriously though, you guys ditched us, when we could have helped too?"
"I already said, we were in too much of a rush, we didn't think about anything like that. If El hadn't told me about the second task, she'd have gone all by herself and I'd still have been at school." Mike insisted.
The others nodded and Max sighed before accepting that and shrugging. Then a new voice cut in.
"So wait, you've hardly at school at all today, Mike?"
He turned, as did the others, startled. Standing there, looking at him, surprised, was Nancy. She wasn't alone either, Jonathan, Steve and Robin were present too.
"N-Nancy, what…?" Mike gasped.
She sighed and explained. "We're looking for Eric, he's gone missing."
At once the party all shared a wary glance, one that Nancy did not miss.
"Unless...do you guys know something about this?"
Mike grimaced, this was not something he was expecting, two completely separate parts of his life were now coming together into the same orbit. Then, as if to finally ensure they did, he spotted El approaching.
Seeing the rest of the party up ahead, El quickened her pace, anxious to reach them, hoping Mike had told them about the rest of what had happened. She also needed their help to figure out a plan to complete the fifth task. But she noted they were not alone, four college students were there, she recognized them although the only one she recalled speaking too for more than a mere moment was Jonathan.
"El?" Mike cried out upon seeing her.
All eyes turned to her and she grimaced, this was it, it was time.
"I...kinda succeeded." She said. "The fourth task, it was…"
"Task?" Robin asked suddenly. "What task, what's going on?"
She shared a look with Mike who looked at her helplessly and sighed. It was time for a lengthy explanation. To reveal just who she was and what she could do, as well as what was happening with Eric and the tasks. She grew more and more anxious as she explained, she felt like she was wasting time, precious time that she needed to complete the fifth task and save Eric. Finally, after a quick demonstration of her powers and revealing everything up to that point, she finished.
"I was supposed to kill the gang leader Shane, that's why I sent you away Mike." She paused and then sighed. "I wasn't able to kill him before police burst in and arrested him, I hid out of sight so they couldn't find me. Luckily the ones behind this accepted that as a good result and now I've got to get into Eric's dorm to get his medication, but…"
"But you need to get past the guard." Mike finished for her. "So, we need some sort of plan…"
Steve groaned. "This is crazy, you can't seriously think…"
"We can." Nancy suddenly said.
This startled everyone present.
She smiled lightly, she recalled Mike talking briefly about El and now she had met her and while taken aback and amazed by the revelations, she was focused, Eric needed help.
"I'll help you out, Mike, El...let's go together."
"You, you're sure, Nancy?" Mike asked.
She nodded.
"Hold on, we-" Lucas began to protest.
"I'm sorry, you guys need to wait here." Nancy said.
Jonathan groaned. "Oh, I get it...after all that's happened. The chief's on his way, isn't he?"
El gaped at that.
"Yeah, best talk to him...stall him maybe, we'll handle this. Please." Nancy confirmed before looking around at them all.
They finally agreed, reluctantly and so they waited for Hopper to arrive while Mike, Nancy and El left, heading for the college.
