Building to the Peak

Mike was still unable to believe he'd let himself be talked into this.

"I should have went with her. Why Nancy, why did you-?"

Nancy sighed sadly. "She asked me to, Mike. She said she didn't want to put anyone else in danger."

Mike grimaced but then, he froze.

"Mike?"

She turned to see him standing, staring in horror. They were almost back to where the others were waiting for them.

Finally Mike spoke. "It's...it's dad."

Nancy turned again, eyes wide and sure enough there was Ted, along with Karen and Hopper, not only that but to Mike's shock, Jessica was also present.

"It'll be okay Mike." Nancy said gently. "I'm here, remember."

Mike bit his lip at that, but then smiled and nodded. "Thanks Nancy. Alright, let's do this."

Readying himself Mike began to walk back to the group with Nancy right behind him. Lucas was the first to see them and his eyes widened when he noticed El wasn't with them. Mike shook his head subtly, trying to signal to Lucas that he'd tell him soon, right now they had to figure out what they were walking into. Dustin and Will noticed them next and both looked worried, Mike understood why immediately when they glanced from him, to his parents and back. They didn't know exactly what was going on with his family, they had to be here about the school skipping incident. It was then the others noticed too, including the adults.

At once Karen hurried forwards, clearly worried.

"Michael, thank God, where were you, we were so worried, you-"

"Worried, he skipped school Karen, not to mention all the other times he's been acting out." Ted snapped.

Mike glared at that. "Me, acting out. Look at yourself Dad, I'm not the one getting angry at every little thing."

Ted growled, clearly outraged at Mike daring to answer back, but then, before he could say anything, Hopper stepped in.

"If I might get this back on track." He remarked gruffly, Ted glaring as he realized what Hopper meant. "Where were you and where's El. The others told us Eric Gibson was kidnapped and you and El were trying to save him, having to do these tasks?"

Nancy nodded. "Yes, it's-"

"Not any of our business." Ted cut in. "Michael, I don't know what is wrong with you these days but you had no business skipping school-"

"As I was saying." Nancy snapped, glaring at her father. "Before I was rudely interrupted-"

Ted didn't get the hint however. "You watch your tone, Nancy, you show know better than to-"

"ENOUGH!"

At once everyone went quiet after Hopper's outburst. Glaring sharply at them all, he finally spoke, his tone leaving no doubt as to his seriousness.

"Now, Mr. Wheeler, if you cannot restrain yourself and act civilly then I need to order you to leave." He growled. "Now, Nancy, Mike, continue."

They did so, explaining as best they could how they had to go and get Eric's medication from the college and now El had it and was going to the location Eric was apparently being held in to save him.

This shocked everybody present.

"Wait, she went alone!?" Hopper burst out in horror.

Jessica scowled. "She shouldn't even be going at all, she has no business-"

"Oh will you just shut up." Max growled. "We don't care that Eric is your boyfriend, this is happening, now since you're clearly no use here, just get lost."

"How dare you!" Jessica screamed.

Mike cut in. "We have more important to be worrying about here, who knows what kind of danger El could be in. Going to all this trouble to have her save Eric Gibson...it's gotta be a trap, right?"

He sent a significant look at Hopper who knew exactly what he meant and looked even more worried.

"As I was trying to say. This is not any of your business Michael." Ted cut in. "You have your own problems to be dealing with, the mess you're making of your life."

Mike scowled. "I'm not the one making a mess of my life dad. You-"

"I am trying to stop you embarrassing yourself trying to join that stupid choir!" Ted yelled.

Mike froze in horror, he had been keeping it secret, but now his father had outed Mike's plan to join the school choir.

'And knowing dad, he did that on purpose.' Mike seethed to himself.

"Wait, Mike, seriously?" Will queried, surprised.

Blushing, Mike sighed but nodded. "Y-yeah."

Dustin however grinned. "Wow dude, that's great."

At once Mike was surprised while Ted looked horrified, especially as the others got in on it too, congratulating Mike and supporting him, clearly not the reaction he had been hoping for.

Swallowing nervously, El approached the building, a worn down abandoned building on the outskirts of town.

'This is the place, I followed the directions exactly and it matches the picture they sent…' She reflected. 'So...Eric's being held in here somewhere...the people behind this might be there too.'

She knew she had to be very careful, she still felt somewhat woozy from using her powers to fight Shane and knew she couldn't rely on them too much here. Still she clutched the bag containing Eric's medication and prepared to enter. It was time, while it may be the final stages of their plan, she had her own plan and now it was time to implement it.

'Hope this works just like Hop said.'

With that she pressed the button on the watch Hopper gave her, activating the tracer before she made her way inside.
