Xavier's institute. Late evening.
The door into the room opened up, and from the bathroom came out Hadrian, dressed in blue pants, while drying off his hair with a towel. A good hot shower was something that had helped him clear his head a little bit, but it was not enough to alleviate the tenseness in his body and mind, brought about by the anticipation and need to get to Muir Island. Though he and Eva did agree with the suggestion of Professor Xavier to wait until morning before heading out there, it did not make Hadrian feel easier or relaxed. His thoughts were racing, scenarios playing out in his head and many other things were making him rather unnerved, thoughts and things that were not there when the biochip was still installed in him.
Thanks to the Beast, Hadrian had that destroyed thing removed out of his head, just as precaution, because as Hadrian had learned, there was no telling what additional secrets were installed in his chip by Sinister. From what Beast had told him, Harry's suspicion that his chip was different from other ones was correct, and according to Hank McCoy, the chip installed in Harry's brain was also used not only as a control mechanism, but also as a limiter, a way to control Harry's mutant abilities and not make him too powerful too soon for him. While that limiter didn't really work on Harry's rapid evolution, it did to a degree limit the power and potential of his energy projection, in a way that it placed mental blocks and limits, preventing Hadrian from using his power in the fullest. But now that these limiters were gone, Hadrian could sense that the power he once used seemed only a fraction of what he potentially was capable of.
But along with this realization came in feelings and sensations he wasn't used to being so strong, like anxiousness, anger and fear. Another small benefit of the biochip is the fact that it dulled the emotional response after actions, like killing and stealing and other stuff, and while Hadrian still was able to process those things mostly like normal people because of his chip, the experiences were still dulled to a degree. Now though, he was forced to deal with the full emotional response and feedback from all he had done, and it's only thanks to Professor and Jean Grey helping him with the worst of the effects, that he didn't just go completely berserk. They have helped him settle in with his new emotional side of his, as did his grandmother.
Harry and Dorea had spent several hours talking, discussing what she saw and what was happening in the world, including with his former family, the Potters, until she departed, saying that she would be back as soon as possible, and will bring along someone to meet him. While Harry wondered who it was whom Dorea was going to bring, he also processed what he had learned about Potters and their family. The Potter family were now the most famous family in Magical Britain, and it has gone seriously into their head, and from what Harry understood, James and Lily were not going to be welcoming towards him, if he decided to return. Harry made it clear that he was not going to return to them, not after how he was simply given away like some useless thing. He was never close to any of his siblings, and the reason why he was in Jamie's room when Voldemort came in was because it was the closest place he could run towards after he saw Voldemort kill his grandfather and knock out Dorea.
He has made it clear to Dorea that he wasn't going forgive and forget, nor did he want to be part of their family, and that he also felt like the name Potter no longer applied to him, because of all that had happened. He feared that she may judge him, but Dorea didn't and told him that whatever he name he himself chose for himself, he would still be her grandson, and that old familial traditions didn't matter to her as much as he did. That had lifted a rock off of Harry's shoulder that he didn't know that he had on him, and for a little time, Harry did think about what last name he would take, but decided against it, at least until he had dealt with the Weapon Plus.
After he was done drying up his head and putting his hear into the desired position, thanks to his own Metamorphic powers, Harry put on a black T-shirt, before sitting before the mirror. Deciding that now may have been as good a time as any to actually test out how good his metamorphic power was, he began change shape of his face, it's features and colors of his eyes and hair. While he did recall that Squibs couldn't become Metamorphmagi, Sinister had managed to find a way to activate that power in Hadrian, via genetic manipulation. While Harry had nearly all the perks of the normal Metamorphmagus, he was still limited to only his gender, general build and mass, and only human features, or near-human, while the other normal Metamorphmagus, like his grandmother, could even change her gender at will, grow a tail or animal ears, and many other things. Still, he did have, as Dorea stated to him "the most necessary basics, while rest was only for showing off", so he was grateful for that.
After trying out a dozen of different looks and styles, Harry stopped with his more usual one, though adding a little more length to his hair so that it would almost fall on to his eyes, which he moved to his side, yet also adding a good bit more brightness to them, making them near platinum in color. Letting out a sigh of content, and frustration, he stood up and decided to head out from his room for a walk or to grab a bite to eat. He knew that most of the Institute were already asleep, as was Eva in her own room, so he walked down the empty halls until he reached the kitchen. There, a little bit to his surprise, he saw Wolverine, drinking bear from a can, who saw him and nodded to him.
"Trouble sleeping?" Logan asked of him.
"Don't really need much of it, like I said." Harry replied, as he went towards the bridge, before he caught a can of bear, which Logan threw to him.
"Drink up. It'll make it better." Logan told him, as he took a sip of his own bear. "Doesn't take a genius with telepathy to see that you are anxious and can't wait to get back there, to you friends and all them bastards. Believe me, I get the feeling and understand ya, but right now, you best sit down and calm down, instead of rushing forth and getting yourself in trouble."
"Need I remind you that me and Eva have beaten you less than eight hours ago?" Harry asked, before he let out a sigh, as he put the bear down. "Sorry about that. Besides, alcohol doesn't work on, not after I grew a resistance to its effects. Another "perk" of my mutations, plus I don't like the taste, so no offence, but I'll pass." Harry said, as he opened the fridge and took out a cold bottle of Cola, before sitting down in front of Logan.
"None taken, kid. Here." He popped the bottle open with one of his claws.
"Thanks." Harry took a sip of the drink. "So, what are you doing up late breaking the curfew?" Harry asked of Logan.
"It's about the only time when I can get a drink and not have either Professor, Slim, Jean, or Storm, or all of them at once, tellin' me how I shouldn't drink in front of the students and give them a bad example. Usually I still do it, but at least at this hour, I don't have to worry about Chuck getting another one of his ideas on how to mentally block my taste receptors, or Jean deciding to get rid of all the bear." Logan told Harry, who nodded to him. "And… I've got the same problem as you right now, kid. You think you are the only one who wants to snatch the Blackbird, go straight there, and tear that place apart? I would've already taken you along, if Chuck hadn't made me forget the codes to the hangar and the Bird."
"I could try and crack them." Harry suggested, as he took a sip of his Cola.
"Wouldn't recommend it, since Forge and Beast have installed some pretty nasty counter measures, plus the system itself can sense when someone is messing with her. Nah, we'll have to sit and wait." Logan told him with a sigh, before he took a closer look at Harry. "Did you dye your hair, and how did you get them longer? I remember you had shorter hair and of a lesser brightness when you went to your room."
"Oh, that? It's one of the abilities that I have." At that moment, Harry changed his hair color and length to the way it used to be, before returning it to the way he styled it now. "My grandma is a Metamorphmagus, in case you weren't aware, and Sinister discovered the gene that made that possible, and made so I could use it."
"I know what a Metamorphmagus is. Basically like Mystique's shapeshifting." Logan commented. "So, you can shapeshift between being a boy or a girl? That is real handy when it comes down to infiltrations."
"No, my grandmother can, but not me. My ability is limited to my gender, general size and weight, so no, I can't grow myself a beak or sprout a tail, or turn into a girl. Still it was pretty handy when it came down to infiltrations, yes." Harry agreed with Logan. "It's one of them secrets that Sinister decided not to reveal to Wraith and the others, liked to keep it as a sort of something that he could be proud of, or something like that."
"Sounds like the Sinister I know" Logan commented. "Mind if I ask you something?"
"Sure, go ahead." Harry told him.
"In those memories of yours, when I saw Talon…" Logan stopped for a second, collecting himself. "I know that I called her my daughter, but I… I know it was wrong, but I wanna know about her. If you don't mind…" It was clear that the usually tough as nails Wolverine was uncomfortable with the subject.
"Thornton and Cornelius like to refer to her as X-23, while Wraith branded her as Talon, but her real name is Laura, Laura Kinney, with her last name coming from her mother, the genetic doctor who gave her birth." Nephalem revealed to Logan, as he drank his drink. "From what I know, Thornton and Cornelius tried 22 times to clone you, but failed, so they decided to instead use your DNA and impregnated their colleague, who agreed to become the mother of the clone. That was how Laura was born, and only she, her mother, and I know that she has that name, while others called X-23 or Talon."
"What happened with her mother? I didn't see her in your memories." Logan remarked.
"I never got a chance to see her, personally, but I did see her in Laura's memories. From what I remember, soon after she was strong enough, Thornton and Cornelius took her from her mother and placed her in a special pod, which significantly accelerated her aging process, similar to how I was made, though not as fast, while also downloading information into her mind. After the process was complete, Thornton let her our and made Laura kill her own mother, as a test to see if his programming was successful." Harry replied, as he remembered the memory. "Talon did as she was tasked, but after the kill… She realized what she had done and it completely destroyed the programming. By then, the bio-chips were already mass produced and she was simply chipped up, but the she never forgot what she had done."
"Those bastards… I have been huntin' them down for as long as I've gotten my memories back, but they've always been a step ahead of me. When we get there, they are mine…" Logan nearly growled.
"You'll get no complaint from me. I've got my own scores to settle." Harry stated, as he thought about Sinister. "Though I've got a feeling that Sinister won't even be there by the time we get there."
"That slippery Darwinist has given us a slip for a long time, so yeah…" Logan reluctantly agreed with him on that subject. "He did a number on you, hasn't he?"
"That putting it lightly, yeah." Harry said, taking a sip of his drink. "I sometimes even wonder how the hell am I still alive, especially after his Ascension Chamber of his… Three months, he played God with me, while I felt every single thing he did to me. Every cut, every pull of vessels, every implantation and vivisection, regeneration and cuts... Pain never left me, it just because easier to tolerate it, not let it hinder my moves."
"I imagine that he ain't a fan of anesthetics."
"He used them before the process, and after those wore off, no others worked on me ever since." Harry admitted, as he finished up his bottle. "Chemicals, poisons, even radiation don't work on me at this point."
"Hm, guess that power of yours beats even mine and old Sabre's regenerations." Logan admitted, as he finished his can of bear, before opening up a new one. "By the way, mind telling me how did you do it?"
"Do what exactly?" Harry asked of him.
"Finish that bastard off." Logan asked of him. "I've tried my whole life to do just that, he just kept comin' back for more. Even made it his pass time, to come after me on my every birthday. I have burned, stabbed, ripped him apart, and he still came back after me, yet you just did him in. How did you do it?"
"With the help of Eva, Gorgon and Talon, plus four anti-infantry grenades, and the Muramasa Blade." Harry summed it up, with Logan perking up after hearing the last part.
"The Muramasa Blade? Last I heard, that thing was in the possession of The Hand, though there were rumors that some crazy bastard actually broke into their stronghold in Tokyo and stole it." Logan remarked. "You stole it from them?"
"No, not exactly. I was given a task to steel it about three and a half years ago, but I knew I couldn't pull it off, so I had called in a favor with someone who had trained me after I was transformed into an adult." Harry told Logan. "I broke in and started causing all sorts of havoc, while she snuck in and stole the blade. After that I've made my escape and she gave me the sword, before making me swear to her, that when the time comes, I'll help her when she comes. Hasn't appeared since then."
"Yeah? And who was it that helped you? Elektra?" Logan was curious.
"Natchios? Nah, she was with The Hand, we even fought each other for a time when I broke into their stronghold. She punctured my kidney with one of her sais, I broke her arms and tossed her out of the building. Don't know if she survived or not, but if she didn't, she was probably resurrected by The Hand." Logan agreed on that fact. "No, I was trained by someone even deadlier. Ever heard about Lady Shiva?"
"Shiva? You've gotta be shitting me?" Logan did not believe him, with Harry giving him a look that told him that he was telling the truth. "Yeah, we've met, more than a couple of times. She tried to kill me while working for The Hand, and she nearly did. How the hell did Wraith manage to get her to train you and others?"
"Wasn't Wraith who got her, but Sinister. Don't know what he promised her, but whatever it was, she agreed to teach me everything she knew, and only me." Nephalem stated. "She trained me for six months, during which I progressed leaps and bounds, learning in near instant what she showed and taught. She knew my capabilities, so she wasn't holding back on me. She was brutal, unyielding, purposefully relentless, but also… She was also fair, just and even supportive, to a certain degree. Shiva was the first one who didn't just treat me like a lab rat or a disposable piece of equipment, no. She treated me as… Well, I guess she treated me as a student."
"Huh, the more you know…" Logan gulped his bear, after hearing that story. "Never thought that merciless assassin had it in her. By the way, where did you get that gear of yours? Didn't look like any SHIELD protection."
"Specially made combat armor, with the armored plates comprised of tri-weave carbonadium alloy, plus some other stuff that I don't know for the rest of the things. All I know is that it was one of experimental models that was intended for use by Captain America, but they gave it to me." Harry replied. "Gave me plenty of protection and all that, but… Felt like a goddamn prison to wear it. Hope the Beast has already gotten rid of it."
"He actually passed in to Forge, since he asked to take a look at it. By the way, what are you gonna wear, when leave for Muir Island?" Logan asked of Harry, who honestly did not give it much thought. "You could've just asked for Forge to repair the thing, but I get why you want it gone. Still, that does leave you without a suit."
"Yeah, I haven't thought about it." Harry agreed with him.
"From your build, I guess you could ask Cyclops for a spare uniform, though I hope you don't mind the smell of righteousness and Boy Scouts that he is using." Logan joked.
"No offence, but I'm not too into the uniforms. Besides, I'm not an X-Man, and I doubt that after what I did, you'd want me here, among you." Nephalem stated.
"Kid, we all have done plenty of bad stuff, some more than others. Just look at Magneto, the guy nearly ripped my skeleton out of my body, and now he is teaching physics here and we are almost cordial with one another. And if you are about Thunderbird, then I can tell, that no one's blaming you for what had happened to him. Everyone knows that it was Wraith, MacTaggert and Sinister responsible for it." Logan told him.
"Yet it's my hands that are covered with his blood." Harry stated.
"Listen, kid, I know how it feels, and trust me, the more you think about it, worse you are gonna feel. Take my advice: do not blame yourself for something you had no control over. You've already done plenty of penancing as it is, with how you've helped out the folks in Weapon Plus." Logan stated to him, before finishing up his bear and rising up from his seat. "Now, get up. Let's go and see Forge. Maybe he'll have something for you to wear, aside from our hand-me-downs." Harry accepted and went with Logan.
After a little while of walking and going to the underground section of the mansion, Logan and Harry reached what had accounted as the armory, entering it and finding Forge working with one of his many weapons. Harry observed the large assortment of the weapons here, being very impressed with what he saw here.
"Looks like Punisher's Christmas dream." Harry commented, with Logan agreeing with him.
"Hey Forge, mind putting that doomsday weapon of yours away for a minute?" Logan called out for him, with Forge stopping his work and looking at his guests.
"Logan, I see you've brought our new guest." Forge said, as he wiped his hand clean, as he walked to him and offered him a hand. "Pleased to meet you, Hadrian. I'm Forge, the guy that usually keeps all the gizmos here running and not breaking apart."
"Yeah, I've read your file. Innate genius when it comes to mechanical things." Harry commented.
"Looks like you've done your homework. So, what can I do for you two, gentlemen?" He asked of them.
"The kid here has no suit of his own, and he doesn't want wear one of our spares, so we came wondering if you have something for him down here." Logan asked of him.
"Hm, costume designing and making them isn't what I'm about, unless it is some kind of mech suit." Forge reminded them. "And if I remember correctly, that armor you wore was still in a more or less good condition. I could have it repaired for you, if you want."
"No, I want that thing gone." Harry replied, though a little too sharply. "Sorry, I just…"
"No, it's okay. Well, it would be a shame to lose it, so you mind if I keep it and take it apart for the materials? Carbonadium and nano-molecular cloth aren't things I can get in store." Forge asked of him.
"Yeah, sure. I do not mind. Do whatever you want with it." Hadrian told him. "So, I'm guessing you don't really anything that could be useful for me?"
"Well, I didn't say that, now did I? C'mon, I think I've got something here that you might like." Forge led Harry and Logan inside, before they stood before a strange large and wide machine, that neither Logan nor Harry could properly describe. "I might not be able to make them superhero suits, but I did make a machine that does for me. This my automated conveyer, the thing that is responsible for keeping all of the X-Men clothed and suited up, and doesn't let them run around in whatever they decide to pick up on their way to a mission. Well, except for Logan, sometimes."
"I ain't got a comment. Also, I thought that Chuck had a contract with some company that was responsible for designing and making all of our suits." Logan commented, as he looked at the machine.
"He did, but after Juggernaut destroyed the facility at which they were being made, Charles asked me to make this, because the company had withdrew from the contract." Forge stated.
"And here I was wondering who was smart, or crazy enough, to make us our suits. We do go through them faster than some girls go through their shoes and purses." Logan stated.
"So how does this thing work, exactly?" Hadrian asked of Forge.
"Well, in all the nitty bitty details… I actually have no idea." Forge stated with honesty, surprising Harry who did not expect that. "Sometimes when I think about something and start working on it, I just make it, but I've got not a clue on how it works, unless I decide to take it apart and study it. But, given the necessity of this machine, I don't risk leaving the team without its brand uniforms, so I just let it work on its own. Plus I'm not as good at explaining the science stuff as Beast."
"Well, I wasn't exactly looking forward to learning how to make. Just wondering how to make it work, in basic terms." Harry corrected himself.
"Now that part is simple." Forge said, as he moved to the machine and activated the computer on it, with the screen showing options on it. "You just input whatever design you want, and it starts to work on it, that's it. It's like a 3D printer, only with clothes and suits. You can choose whatever material you want, from textiles to high density and hardness alloys, with the variety functions installed. As Bobby would put it, it is an ultimate superhero costume designer machine."
"You can add in protecting plates between clothes, along with say, reflective crystalize textiles, to not be seen on the radars?" Hadrian asked.
"Yes, and don't worry about the materials. I have plenty of stuff installed in it, so you can feel free to use to your heart's content." Forge stated to him, with Harry moving over to the computer and activating it.
"Alright, let's see what we can come up with." Harry said, as he began skimming through the options.
Two hours later.
"Okay, that wasn't what I expected you to come up with, kid." Logan commented, just as Hadrian put on the final product. "I was expecting something more in line with what most folks like us wear, not… Huh, how should I even put it?"
"In case you didn't notice, I ain't no hero, and about the usual trends, I've skipped my childhood, so forgive me for not following the usual trends." Harry stated, as he fixed his new coat. "And I am pretty certain I'm done with the uniforms and those military-esque armors that I wore with Weapon Plus. This is my choice, and to be honest, I could care less about what you think."
"Point taken, kid, and I ain't saying it's a bad look. It is just that it's not common among us to see someone dressed in a semi-aristocratic way that you are right now." Logan commented. "Although at least this look does kinda work on you. At least you look less ridiculous than Gambit." Logan chuckled a little.
"Well, at least it's no cloak, thank God for that one. Plus, despite the exterior, the interior of all of that is top notch. Actually, I'm gonna have to remember to add in a few things you put into these garments." Forge said, as he went to the console.
Harry had finally fixed up his outfit and observed himself through a mirror, pleased with the result. The machine had done it's work, and Hadrian admitted that Forge's description of it was on point, as it produced everything to his exact specifications. Despite what Logan had expected from Hadrian, he didn't go with the typical superhero costume or a military-esque armor, like he used to have. No, instead, he decided to go in a different direction, opting to make something his own, something that was not usual, but what he could consider his own.
Taking inspiration from the past, especially his grandfather, Hadrian's choice of garments now consisted of a dark purple coat with a hood, complimented by red ornate details on shoulders and sleeves, with coat reaching to his knees, with a slight touch of Victorian era of fashion. Underneath it was a black jacket, with a black special shirt right underneath it, with blue pants and boots ending the list of garments. The choice of cloths did make Hadrian look a little bit out of place, but also made him memorable, unique in his own way, and despite the seeming impracticality of the costume, it wasn't without it's own hidden gems.
The fabrics of the garments were made of a special protective material, similar to Kevlar, though tougher and more malleable, while the jacket also featured protective carbonite protection between layers, adding additional protection. Along with that, there were also plenty of hidden pouches in the coat, which could be used for storage, while the outer layer of it also made it hard for detection by the means of infrared, as it had the ability to hide heat, even from Hadrian's head. Boots were made in such a way that allowed Hadrian to move without sound, while pants featured the same protective materials as the rest of his clothes. Even the shirt underneath was useful, as not only it gave tactical protection like others, but it also had another hidden advantage- it was a two layered material, with the second layer being a special shock absorbing textile, which prevented the kinetic energy and force from damaging Hadrian.
In other words, the entire attire was a piece of art in a sense of functionality and protectiveness, and with his own abilities and physical attributes, Hadrian could move in without having it hinder his mobility in any way. Overall, he was very satisfied with the end results.
"Say what you want, Wolverine, but at least I don't look like I'm wearing a spandex one-piece, like some of you guys." Harry smirked a little, with Logan huffing at that.
"Mine is a two-piece, actually. The shirt does come off separately." Logan pointed out. "By the way, kid, are you going to go with just your powers?"
"Hm, about that." Harry looked around the armory, seeing a great amount of various firearms, blasters and other things. "Usually I do go with just them, but I've never been opposed to using firearms, plus I am a pretty good shot."
"Well, pick what suits you best, son." Forge told him, having finished up his work. "Most of what you see was either made by me, for the Sentinels, or is of alien origin. We even have a unique pair of pistols, made by some Italian wizarding gunsmith."
"Really? I wouldn't mind seeing those, actually." Harry admitted, with Forge soon bringing a box and opening it before Hadrian and Logan. "Well, I'll be. These two look like a mix of M1905 and AMT Automag III." Hadrian said, as he picked the both up, taking a black one in his left hand, while the white one in his right one.
"Everything is handmade, down to the last rivet. Customized beavertail handgrip safeties for better handling, target sights, extended barrels, and short pull triggers. Every minute detail all customized and made to be better than anything, as he said to me." Forge said, as Harry examined the weapons. "It uses .454 Casull, so these two pack one hell of a punch. If you need to kill a bear with one shot, or an elephant, that is what you need. In addition, as for the shortcomings… That thing can dislocate a hand or worse of anyone who is not prepped to fire. I know that personally, as it nearly broke my wrist from just test firing. Plus the round is on the rarer side, since not every gunshop trades in, as it is called among the gun enthusiasts, an "atomic round." Forge stated, as Harry finished his examination.
"Yeah, I know the specs of the round, but I can handle the recoil no problem." Hadrian assured him, as Forge handed him the holsters. "Do you have additional magazines with .454 Casull?" Harry asked of him, as he attached the holsters to his legs.
"Sorry, but I don't. Not a lot of folks around her deal in fire arms, and I'm not personally a fan of that round. I actually got that pair from Logan." Forge told Harry, who glanced at him with curiosity.
"Won them in a poker game from an Italian Wizard some 15 years or so years ago. Claimed that these two are the most advance weapons on Earth and that there is no other gun like them. Even named them Luce and Ombre, whatever that means. You can even see it on the barrels." Logan pointed out to Harry.
"Light and Shadow, from an Italian." Harry said for him, as he put them away, and right in that moment, the doors slid away and Dorea, Gambit and an unknown woman walked inside.
"See, Cherie, I told you that Gambit will help you find them." Gambit said in his usual suave way, before he took a look at Hadrian, as he fixed up his guns and hid them behind the coat. "Well, well, I see that the little kid's decided to play dress up. Can't fault you for tryin' out the Gambit style, but only Gambit knows how to make it work. You only make yourself look like some cheap dress up, or one of them cosplayer kids at the conventions."
"Yeah? Well at least I'm wearing things that ladies might appreciate, while you are wearing… Say, what is it that you are wearing under that coat? Kinda looks like a knock-off from Power Rangers." Harry bit back, with Logan chuckling, while Gambit decided to take out his cards.
"Oh, what is it? A boy wants to play with the adults. Careful, 'cause when you play with Gambit, Lady Luck is always on his side." Gambit playfully threatened Hadrian, as he took out an Ace of Spades from cards.
"Really? Then care to tell me where was Her Ladyship, when I played my hand against you and Cyclops at the same time, and won?" Harry reminded Gambit with a smirk, while the two stared at each other, before Gambit chuckled and put his cards away.
"She must've taken a nap, 'cause it ain't any day I get to see Cyclops beaten by my own hand." Gambit said jovially. "Anyway, ladies, Gambit has done his deed, and now Gambit can leave, but in case you require an additional tour…" He said in a flirtatious tone, before Logan interrupted him.
"Hey Cajun, what do you thing Rogue will do when she finds out you here, giving tours of our supposedly secret underground facilities to two beautiful blonde women? My money is on turning your face into a modern art work." Logan said with a smirk, while Gambit paled quite a bit at the thought.
"Now wait a minute, Logan, mon ami! You wouldn't be so cruel as to tell Cher something like that, now would you?" Gambit asked of him with fear in his voice.
"I dunno, maybe I should, or maybe if someone gets out of our hair and later brings me my bear, then I might consider forgetting about the whole affair." Logan smirked, as Gambit rushed out of the room. "Works like a charm. So, Dorea, I see you've decided to bring along a friend, and not an entirely human one at that."
"Yes, I have, and I've already cleared with Professor. Hadrian, this is who I wanted you to meet." Dorea said, as she pointed at the woman.
The woman in question was a tall, inhumanly beautiful lady with long bright blond hair that reached to her knees, that she made into her ponytail, with green bright eyes with which she looked straight into Harry's. She was dressed in blue and white modern garments and looked like she was not even thirty, but something in the way she looked and Harry's instinct told him that this woman was not a normal human being, and that she was definitely older than most. But was surprised Harry the most, was the fact that this was not the first time that he actually saw this woman, as his memory from the past immediately brought up images of her, from the time when he was but a child.
"I… I think we have met before." Harry said, as the woman had greeted him with a warm smile. "You often visited our house, even stayed with me when grandma and grandpa went to attend their affairs."
"Yes, and you were a wonderful child to babysit when you were little. I do though miss your previous black hair and emerald eyes, but your current looks… They do fit you." She commented with a warm tone, as she turned to Dorea. "Dorea, dear, if you do not mind introducing me?" She asked of her.
"Harry, this is Morgana Le Fay, Queen of the Isle of Avalon, once Sorceress Supreme and sister to King Arthur, and your godmother." The occupants of the room stared in shock at Morgan, after she was introduced.
"H-hold up, Dorea. You mean to tell us that this woman is one of the most powerful and evil Sorceresses of all time, and is also your grandkid's godmother?! How the hell did you actually become friends with her, and how is she still alive? She should be at least a thousand or so years old." Logan asked in shock.
"I am actually a fair bit more older than just a thousand years, and yes, I am what you would consider, most powerful, but the most evil thing that I can do is cast a small jinx, at least when I will it." Morgana said with a chuckle, completely unfazed by the fact that she was called evil. "But I understand why people do perceive me as evil. Modern literature and media hasn't exactly done my reputation justice, and the Wizarding World also had a hand in it. But upon my magic I swear that I am neither malevolent nor evil, and that I come bearing no ill will or intent." At that moment, an aura of golden light appeared around Morgana, before it disappeared.
"What was that, exactly?" Forge asked.
"A magical oath, which just confirmed the words of Morgana." Dorea answered. "I understand the confusion, but if a magical oath is made and it is confirmed like that, then it means that the person is telling the truth, and an absolute one at that. I'm no stranger to the bad reputation Morgana has, but practically all of the ill deeds and sins that are attributed to her are not of her making."
"Yeah, then who is responsible for it all?" Logan asked.
"My older sister, Morgause, who was just as powerful Sorceress as I was, but her ambitious and aspirations were to seize Camelot and destroy what my brother and his knights have built, along with Merlin. As for me, I have never had any desires of grandeur, destruction or ruling, and I detested the very nature of that conflict, so I remained away from it, at least… At least until my sons were not taken from me." Morgana said with sadness in her tone. "Only after Morgause's schemes had taken away what I loved most did I enter the fray and with Merlin's help, I put a stop to her plans. In the end, Merlin decided to wipe her from the very minds and memories of the men, hence why she is not known so much, but as a penance to me, the old codger decided to place those sins on me. He believed that since it was my son Mordred who killed Arthur that I was to carry the sins that were brought about by him and Morgause… And so, now I am remembered as an evil witch who nearly ruined the Magical World and all because I couldn't bring myself to fight my kin."
"Damn, that's… Sorry about earlier." Logan apologized, with Forge doing the same.
"Do not fret, for it was a long time ago, and there is no blame upon you for what had happened." Morgana told them, before she turned to Harry. "Harry, your grandmother had told me of what had transpired with you. I… I am so very sorry what had been done to you. I know that no words will change the fact that I wasn't able to find you, but know that like Dorea, I searched for you through means of magic and other way, but I was unable to find you, something that puzzled and frustrated me immensely… Until I finally bore eyes upon you." Morgana said cryptically, as she stepped carefully closer to Harry.
"Maybe it is because I am a Squib?" Harry suggested. "After all, Squibs are cut off from most of the magical abilities that normal Wizards and Witches have."
"From those, they may be cut off, but from the magic itself? My dear Harry, those born without ability to use wands are not cut off from magic and its gifts. They merely do not possess the ability to follow the paths of wizardry, but there are many ways of finding magic, and all others are open for them. Some learn of this, but they are so few and in between, and all because the Wizarding World fears the True Magic." Morgana stated to him, as closed the distance with him. "The True Magic is more than mere brushes through wands and minor spells, and it is open for all to explore. Some a born predisposed to it, and most of them become entrenched and locked in ways of wizardry, ways that Merlin himself had set for them in order to safeguard the world. But I am not a simple follower or practitioner of wizardry. I am a Sorceress and a True Source, and so are you, Harry." Morgana said with a smile, while Harry looked at her with confusion, yet Dorea looked with shock.
"A True Source? What does that even mean?" Harry asked of Morgana, yet it was Dorea who had answered.
"It is an ancient term, used to describe a person, born and imbued with inhumanly great amount of magical power. Ancient texts and scriptures describe the True Sources as men and women who are born not as simple conduits of magic like most, but as it's very sources, hence the term." Dorea stated. "In the Wizarding World, the True Sources are regarded as a myth, childish legends that are told to pureblooded offspring by their parents, to inspire in them a sense of superiority. House Black in particular likes to tell a tale of how it came to be from a union of two True Sources, but I do not know if that is true or false. But, from my own and Charlus' research, True Sources are real and they do exist, with Morgana confirming it for us."
"The Wizarding World would like for all to forget about True Sources, for even one of them is greater in might and power than a thousand of their like, yet they are very, very rare to appear or be born. In the last millennium, I can count less than two dozen being born, but as the last thousand years has ended and gave way to a new one, the numbers of magicals are rising, and with them, the possibility of more True Sources appearing." Morgana stated. "A True Source's power is not observed so readily as with witches and wizards at a young age. Their power is usually dormant, hiding, waiting for a moment to appear, but when it does, it is akin a birth of a star." Morgana said as she looked at Harry.
"That power is it… Is it like this?" Harry asked of her, as he engulfed his right hand in a powerful aura of blue energy, to which Morgana nodded.
"For each Source it is individual, even with different properties, but your power is one that is born of magic." Morgana said with certainty. "If you do not mind my curiosity, when and how did you first use it, Harry?" Harry dispelled his magical power.
"I… It was on the night of the attack, when Voldemort came after Jamie." Harry remembered with a grim expression. "I… I saw him murder grandpa, and you, grandma, or at least I thought he killed you, but… I saw it all." Dorea looked at him with sadness.
"Harry…" She recoiled from the fact that her grandson had witnessed death so young, yet understood it all.
"When he came to Jaime's room, I confronted him, and then he tried to burn me, but after that… I-I'm not even sure what had happened." Harry stated. "It was like… Like his fire couldn't even warm me up, and then something came out from me. It was like a sun appeared inside me, and then… Then he asked what manner of power was it. And I answered: "I am power", and then I... I destroyed him, like he was nothing." He stated with shock, while Dorea looked at him with a realization.
"By the stars… Dumbledore, James, they don't even realize…" Dorea muttered to herself, while Logan spoke up.
"Sounds like what happens with some Mutants. A lot of abilities do come about when a person is subjected to serious stress, and I can't think of a worse thing that what you just said, kid." Logan stated. "These True Sources of yours sound almost like Mutants, Morgana."
"In a manner of speaking and interpretation, we may very well be considered as such, Mutants. A surprisingly in-depth observation, Mr. Logan" Morgana agreed with Logan, before she turned to Harry. "That is the reason why I was unable to find you, Harry, because I looked for a simple child, but you were not one. Your awakening of powers had sent shockwaves through the very fabric of universe, but I failed to identify it as originating from you. But now… Now I see that you are a True Source, Harry, and I wish to offer you two things."
"Looks like it's early Christmas for you, kid." Logan commented with a chuckle.
"Alright, and what do you wish to offer to me?" Harry ignored his comment and asked Morgana.
"First of all, to offer you apprenticeship, to learn and discover what you are truly capable of, and how to wield your might for the good. As much as I may not like the archaic ways of Wizarding World, one thing they and I agree upon- untrained True Sources are a threat for both themselves and those around them." Morgana stated to Harry. "Along with your powers, I offer to learn the ways of True Magic, to weave spells and conjure things that no Wizard or Witch are capable of. Dorea spoke of your secondary mutation and what had been done to you, and though I abhor what was done to you, I do believe that you will be able to learn and master ways of Magic faster than even I did."
"A tempting offer, but at this very moment I am not looking forward to becoming someone's apprentice. My top priority right now is getting my friends free from Weapon Plus and making the man who has done this to me suffer like none before had." Harry said with some anger. "And after that… I don't really know, but I'm not going to make any decision until Weapon Plus is standing and my family is imprisoned in there. So, I am sorry to disappoint you, Lady Morgana, but for now, I'll pass."
"A valid argument and one that I understand and respect. And given your current situation and predicament you find yourself facing, I believe that my second offering to you will come rather handy." At that moment, she raised her open palm, and then casted a silent spell.
In the next second, in Morgana's hand materialized a long, curved Japanese blade, with a golden handle and tsuba, with white wrapping, giving it traditional Japanese diamond shape. Logan and Hadrian both looked with clear interest and analysis at the weapon, while Morgana offered it to Hadrian.
"Here, I believe that you will find this quite useful in your current quest." She told him, as Harry took the blade and then unsheathed it, trying it out for balance, before Logan whistled.
"That is one beauty of a blade. Looks as if it is just forged, and from the length of it, it clearly ain't no simple katana." Logan commented, as Hadrian gripped the blade and swung it around, moving the blade with ease and grace. "Looks like you know how to handle it, kid."
"Yeah, it's worlds apart from Muramasa Blade. That sword felt like it was trying to tear off my arm when I used it, but this one…" And at that moment Hadrian made three fast paced swings before he sheathed the blade in a scabbard. "This sword feels like an extension of myself, like it's not even a sword, but part of my arm. A truly wonderful weapon, thank you."
"You are welcome, and it seems to take well to you. As for the reason as to why Muramasa Blade reacted so badly to you, it is because it was forged with a piece of smith's soul in it, and it tried to feed off of you, but you resisted. Hence the resistance, whereas Yamato synergizes with you and instead balanced and unites with you." Morgana stated with the knowledge of the subject. "Although, I would still like to see how it reacts to you, when your powers are active."
"You mean, when I infuse my power with the weapon?" Hadrian asked of her, and she nodded to him. "That might not be a really good idea. Every time I did with any weapon, being a firearm or a sword, the weapon shattered after the first strike, with only Muramasa only surviving the usage."
"An anticipated outcome, since all weapons you used weren't tailed for the use by True Source, but Yamato is one such blade, so it will definitely withstand your power. Come on, give it a try." Morgana assured him.
"Um, not to sound impolite, but you mind taking this experiment and performing somewhere else? I've got some pretty sensitive and combustible materials and things in here, some of which may or may not blow up this mansion of damaged." Forge pointed out, before getting an idea. "I've got an idea for that one. Come on, I know where you can go all out if you want." He said and led the group to the Danger Room, which in it's inactive form was just a large open space.
"Is this a spare storage space?" Dorea asked, with Forge taking out a remote control and tapping a few buttons.
"Nope, ma'am, it is not." And in that moment the Danger Room went active and the entire space became one large open white void. "This, ladies and gentleman, is The Danger Room, the most advance training simulator on this planet. Hard light projections, complete immersion into the situation, expanding field of operation, distortion of space and many, many other options. In other words, this is Star Trek holodeck, only even better." And at that moment Forge returned the room back in it's original form.
"A machine capable of creating artificial pocket dimensions of a user's choosing… It is capable of things that not even some deities possess the capacity of accomplishing." Morgana said with awe in her tone. "A true marvel of technological advancement."
"Well, that is a rather very high praise, thank you. I almost expected you to say that it is just a toy or something like that…" Forge commented, as he adjusted the Room a little.
"Why would I diminish your accomplishment or this construction in such a childish way? Just because I am a True Source and user of magic, doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the technological progress and what it has brought us. For one, I do enjoy the fact that now food takes less than hour to be fully prepared most of the time, instead of half a day like in the Dark Ages." Morgana commented, before turning to Harry. "Harry, whenever you are ready. Don't try to do anything serious. Just try sending a small portion of your power into Yamato."
"Okay, let's see if we are made for each other, buddy." Hadrian unsheathed the blade again and then channeled a small bit of power into it, with the blade accepting the energy into itself. "So far so good. I'll try to up the output a bit." Harry said, and increased the energy, and the blade began to glow a little at that.
"Like I said, Yamato synergizes with you and your power, acting as a stabilizer and enhancer, unlike Muramasa. Now, let us see what this synergy can accomplish." Morgana said, before turning to Forge. "Does your Danger Room possess the capacity for creating beings or creatures, on which we can test Yamato?"
"One moment…" And then a single early model Sentinel appeared in the middle of the Room. "One Sentinel dummy, primed and ready for abuse, at your disposal."
"Go ahead, kid." Logan encouraged Harry, and he nodded, before rushed at the standing construct and then delivered a wide slash at his legs, seemingly only cutting the front of his lower legs.
That was until it suddenly dropped down on his back, with the legs severed at the point of cut, with a perfect slash showing, with Hadrian looking with surprise and amazement at that, while Morgana walked closer to him.
"So, how do you find it now, Harry?" She asked.
"Absolutely perfect. Yamato is just perfect. Thank you." Harry thanked her again. "Although, not that I wish to sound rude, but I have to ask, how come you have this blade? I mean, you are Morgana Le Fay, and I wasn't really counting for an Excalibur, but a Japanese blade is not what I would expect you to have."
"If you are hinting at me being a British Sorceress, then allow me to ask you: does it inheritably prevent me from traveling the world and seeing other places, rich in history, culture and magic?" Morgana asked of him with a light chuckle. "Camelot fell centuries ago, and Merlin had disappeared with all of the arms of Camelot and Knights of the Round Table, taking them along, so I fear I do not have anything of significant worth to gift. On a more positive note, this sword here is an equal to that of Excalibur, if not it's superior."
"Took that thing off in one clean strike. That's one wicked sharp blade, kid." Logan said, as he looked at the metal. "Huh, kinda looks like my Adamantium, but not quite. What's it made out of?"
"The metal used in it's creation did not come from our dimension or world, that I can tell you will full certainty. It is unlike any on Earth." Morgana assured them, while the Sentinel disappeared. "When will you be leaving to save your friends, exactly?"
"On the morning, once everyone is healthy and ready, but until then…" Harry looked at the Danger Room and his blade, before turning to Morgana. "You mentioned learning how to use my powers. Well, since I've got time, thanks to not needing much sleep, I would like to use them a bit, get more used to their new level and so on. If you have the time…"
"I have all the time in the world for you, Harry." Morgana answered without missing a beat. "Given your situation, we shall focus on more practical and immediately useful in battle ways of utilizing your powers. Mr. Forge, is it? Do you mind if we make use of your Danger Room?"
"Be my guest. Here, just choose the location or the enemy, or type in the search space. The Room should accommodate whatever you need." Forge then explained a few more details to Morgana and Hadrian. "Well, if you don't mind, I'll be turning in. Logan, you coming?"
"Yeah, in a bit." Wolverine replied, as Forge left the Danger Room, while he turned to Dorea. "Want me to find you a spare room to rest for the night, 'cause it looks like the kid and your sorceress friend will be here for the whole night."
"Thank you for the offer, but I'll decline. I've spent countless nights dreaming about seeing my grandson again, and now I get to see him in real life." Dorea let out a sigh, as Morgana began to explain Hadrian what to do. "I would not want to miss a chance at seeing him become something more than what his parents thought he would be."
"Yeah, I get it. See ya in the morning, kid. Try not to trash the place too much." Logan waved off, as he exited the Danger Room and Hadrian began his training.
Next morning. Blackbird. Airspace of Ireland.
Seated in the Blackbird were Cyclops, Magneto, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Colossus, Beast, Storm and Gambit, along with Eva and Hadrian. The former opted to use her usual uniform, since it wasn't damaged and Hadrian and other didn't say a thing against it, since it was Eva's choice, though if Harry knew her well enough, he knew that once all of this is over, she'll dispose of it as soon as possible. They were already on their way to Muir Island to completely shut down the facility, with the SHIELD already having sent their own units to support them. Nephalem knew the base's defenses and capabilities of the military personal and his teammates better than anyone, and so he shared all he knew, while also providing plans on how to enter and deal with all of them.
Eva, Wolverine and Magneto found Nephalem's idea and plans to be sound and were all for implementing them, but Xavier protested, as in his view, the ways in which Hadrian proposed dealing with the guards and entering were unnecessarily violent. Instead, Cyclops was put in charge of the operation, and he made it clear to Nephalem, that he was to follow his orders to the letter, since he was now with the X-Men, or so apparently everyone assumed to be so. Nephalem and Eva were not exactly happy with this decision, given the fact that Xavier and Cyclops opted to refrain from using Hadrian's advice, instead only using what he knew about the layout, numbers and capabilities of the guards.
While Nephalem was aware that Cyclops is an experienced tactician and commander of the X-Men, Hadrian wasn't blind to the faults of the man, seeing how he followed the commands of Xavier to the letter, even when it was against better judgement. He and Xavier both were aware of just how corrupt and morally atrocious were those guards, and how it was in best ways to not hold back when dealing against them, but the pacifistic Xavier wanted to avoid any more bloodshed, and his best student will do everything to accomplish it. Everyone on the plane knew that Nephalem and Eva were out for blood, but Cyclops has made it crystal clear to them that they are not to kill anyone, despite what had been done to them.
And so the two sat in the back, almost fuming at the complete unwillingness of Cyclops to see their way.
"Remind me, why is he, exactly, in charge of this operation?" Eva mentally asked of Nephalem, who sat with his Yamato, holding near. "Cyclops never seen or has ever been to the hidden facilities of Muir Island, doesn't know anything about the guards' protocol or how to respond to them, and yet Xavier feels like he can be trusted to lead this op? He should've agreed with your plan, instead of just letting his star pupil come with the plan on the spot." Eva mentally huffed.
"This is not Weapon Plus, Eva, and we are not X-Men. Besides, there is also the fact that in their eyes, even if they don't say it out loud, we are still not like them, and are more akin to what they are used to fighting against." Nephalem reminded her, as he took a breath. "They are peacekeepers, not military, or a black ops unit."
"Yeah, a peacekeeping unit, that operates an ultra-advance stealth jet and has been at the outs with the US government more than once…" Eva said telepathically with the irritation.
"Perhaps if you looked at all of this from our perspective, you would see that Professor's decision holds more merit than you like to think." Jean Grey suddenly entered their conversation with her own telepathy. "I know that you are worried about your friends, Eva, but I promise you, Scott will do everything to save them. Not every battle has to be resolved by killing men."
"Oh really, Missus Summers?" Eva sarcastically replied, seemingly mocking Jean's devotion to Scott, something that upset her. "Listen, Marvel Girl, Hadrian and I have spent our lives in that damn place, and Hadrian has spent a better part of 4 years learning every single detail that there was about Weapon Plus, Muir Island and every single of it's inhabitants. Your Cyclops may be a tactical commander and all that, but compared to Nephalem, he is like novice chess player, going up against a Grandmaster."
"We all have seen Nephalem's memories, and Scott will use it come up with an adequate way to deal with all of them. Have faith in him, he hasn't lead us down." Jean defended her friend.
"Nor has Nephalem, and as you can recall, every mission that he was sent in with a team ended successfully, and those weren't the kind that you were used to." Eva argued back. "Harry knows not just the personal of the center, but also our teammates better than anyone, and Weapon Plus will dispatch them first to deal with us. You don't know how they fight, how they move and work, with or without us with them, but we do, and unlike us, they won't be pulling any punches."
"That still doesn't mean that we will use excessive force on the people there." Jean stood her ground. "They don't deserve to…"
"They don't deserve it?! I am sorry, but did you just think that they don't deserve to die?!" Eva was infuriated with what Jean Grey just thought.
"Despite what they did, it is not right to simply kill men and women, no matter their crimes, and we won't allow you to do it." Jean stated with stern sense. "You will respect the wishes of the Professor, and commands of Scott, since you agreed to help us."
"We agreed? Girl, it was you who agreed to help us free our friends, don't get it all twisted in that delusional head of yours." Eva angrily replied.
"Eva, that's enough. Arguing right now won't get us anywhere, and will only help those bastards." Nephalem stated, deciding to put an end to this argument. "Miss Grey, Eva and I will abide by the decision made by Charles Xavier, but if at any moment we feel like it is hindering the progress of our mission, we will act without concern for your "high moral standards", do I make myself clear?" Nephalem made it clear with his telepathy what he meant.
"Hadrian, you do not mean that you will…" Jean wanted to stop him from thinking this way, but he didn't allow her.
"The sole reason I agreed to work with you is because you are my best chance to get my friends out of there, but you and your leaders do seem to make a mistake of considering me and Eva part of X-Men. We are not X-Men, and we were made and trained to do things differently, and right now, you are treating this as one of your heroic adventures. For us, this is not an adventure, but an opportunity to finally end those bastards, who had done unspeakable things to us." Nephalem's cold hatred for Weapon Plus sent shivers down Jean's spine. "Now, like I said, we will abide by your leader's decision, but only so long as it doesn't interfere with our goals. If it does, then we'll act as we see fit, and I don't care if your Professor decides to put us in a corner later on or not. Now, get out of our telepathic line. This is a private conversation." And with but single impulse, Hadrian expelled Jean from the telekinetic line, making her groan in pain from sudden expulsion.
"Jean, are you alright?" Scott asked of her, as he directed the plane.
"I am fine, Scott, but our allies… They do not share our views on how to approach this mission, despite the fact that we understand how they feel." Jean said aloud.
"Understand how we feel? You understand nothing, not until you spend five years in that hellhole, waiting for when some fucking guard decides to rape you, or when you are to be sent on another mission. Or when you are picked as the next guinea pig to be experimented upon." Eva said with cold fury in her tone. "What Nephalem shown you was not enough for you to understand what we went through. You have to live through it, to understand us."
"Eva, I am only trying to help you and Hadrian, but you have to realize that we can't simply let vengeance guide our actions. There is more at stake than you realize, for the humankind and mutants as well, and we have to be mindful of how act and…" Jean tried to recite what Professor had stated to her.
"Miss Grey, your devotion to Charles' rhetoric is admirable, but it is completely misplaced in this situation." Magneto suddenly spoke up, interrupting her. "You and Mr. Summers may disagree with the way our allies wish to handle this situation, but you do have to put yourself in their shoes. I can see that Charles has already helped you to process what Nephalem had showed to you, so you wouldn't let your emotions affect your mission, but in my opinion, this was a wrong thing to do, because now you've just detached yourself from this entire situation."
"What is your point, Magneto? Are you saying that I am unfit to lead this operation?" Scott asked of him.
"No, you are fit, but I agree with Miss Eva and Nephalem, and that their approach would be far more effective." Magneto stated. "Hadrian had years to memorize every single detail and scan every guard, doctor, worker and member of the staff, to compile the most optimal way of dealing with them. If he says that holding back will be detrimental to our success, I agree with him."
"So do I. This ain't one of them Brotherhood attacks, or Sentinels, Slim. This is Weapon Plus, and they don't play by any rules, and the monsters in there would love nothing more than to make us all into their toys." Wolverine stated. "Wanna play teacher's pet, fine by me, but when the fight starts, I'll stick with the Kid on this on this one."
"You would go against Professor's wishes, Logan?" Jean seemed surprised at this one. "Logan, this is not like you to…"
"Sorry, Jean, but I'm through playin' a nice guy, not after what I've seen, and what I've been through with those bastards." Logan stated with a near growl. "Today, I'm gonna have a lot of blood on my claws."
"Jean, despite my general views on violence and usage of excessive force, in this particular instance, I fear that I find myself leaning more in line of thinking that Wolverine and Magneto share." Beast admitted, getting a surprised look from her and Scott. "On this particular situation, my bestial side and my enlightened side have reached a consensus, which is that we should teach those people what it means to suffer."
"Hank, you don't mean that…" Scott tried to say.
"No, Cyclops, I do." Beast stated with a grim expression.
"As much as I may respect Professor, the crimes and horrors committed by those monsters have rendered them less than humans in my opinion." Ororo spoke, before she turned to Scott. "I say we do as Hadrian suggested."
"That is not what Professor told us to…" Cyclops tried to state, but was interrupted, when the comms screens lit up, revealing Nick Fury of all people. "Director Fury? I am sorry, but my team and I are on approach to Muir Island and…"
"I know all about Muir Island, but right now, your invasion will have to wait, because we have a much more serious problem on our hands right now. Now, Boy Scout, where is Nephalem, I need to speak with him." Fury commanded to him, with Nephalem moving into the front of the plane. "Hadrian… Damn, Dorea was not kiddin' when she said you were made into an adult. You probably don't remember me, kid, but we've actually met, back when you were just a small kid."
"I remember perfectly, uncle Fury." Hadrian assured him, before turning serious. "Now, what's so important that you are canceling our mission?"
"This." Fury replied, and then showed the footage of what was happening right now in London.
To say that it was a complete chaos and pandemonium would be an understatement, as the capitol of London was engulfed in a whirlpool of destruction, chaos and death. Monsters of all shapes and sizes were attacking men and women, flying caricatures on angels and demons were swooping in and killing innocents, buildings and roads turned into liquids or changed into monsters. Entire blocks were leveled, with the Avengers in the midst of it all, trying to hold off the endless tide of incoming monsters, while SHIELD and STRIKE units tried to evacuate as many as they could, while fighting off creatures from nightmare. Buildings and streets seemed to float around, while where there used to stand the Big Ben, now stood a massive circular tower of disproportionate parts infused in it, and on top of it, watching with glee, stood a being made of pure psionic energy, Proteus. Everyone immediately looked with shock and small portion of dread, while Nephalem's eyes hardened and he understood everything what was going on.
"I've got Avengers and Fantastic Four in there, along with all of STRIKE and all of SHIELD operatives I could spare, while nearly every military formation in all of Western Europe are getting deployed, but I've got no fucking idea on what is going in in there." Fury admitted to them all.
"It's Proteus, Kevin MacTaggert…" Nephalem spoke up, before he took a breath. "This… All of this is his doing, Director. He is the only member of the Weapon Plus mutant contingent to not be chipped, but he is also it's most dangerous and completely unhinged member."
"From what I gotten from Xavier, his power is only being able to take possession of bodies, due to being comprise of energy and control them, and that he needs to be in a body, or else he dies. How the hell is able to turn an entire city into a mini Hell?" Fury asked of Nephalem.
"Proteus' powers are not limited to simple possession of people, no. Proteus is a confirmed Omega level Mutant, and the reason why he is one is because of his real power, and that is reality warping and manipulation." Nephalem stated, with others listening to him. "Proteus is capable of manipulating reality in whatever way he wants, being able to bend, if not break the very laws of existence. Physics, chemistry, biology- you name it and he will change it to whatever way he wants. The Weapon Plus had long determined that his true level of power was that he could easily destroy the entire world, and with his absolute lack of morals and normal values, he is on the same level of threat as Thanos."
"And they simply allowed him to do whatever he wanted, without any restraints?" Ororo asked of Nephalem.
"No, they didn't. They've managed to convince him of the fact that he needed a living body to exist, because otherwise he would die, and because his reality warping works in response to his thoughts and wishes, he was made vulnerable. They also removed any and all mention about his power, making it so that he never knew of his real abilities, but if he has managed to figure out that all he was told is a ruse, then we are in trouble, and big one." Nephalem stated with the knowledge of the subject. "Proteus' power increases the more he uses it, and as long as he focuses, he can make whatever he thinks come to pass, but only in a specific radius. However, the more he uses his power, the stronger he gets, and soon enough, his reach will extend to encompass the entire world.
"Then we are dealing with a completely amoral psychopath, who has the powers to make reality into his bitch, did I get everything right?" Fury asked, with Nephalem nodding to him. "You seem to know more than anyone about him, how the hell do we stop him?"
"With the amount of powers he has and it's strength, not even a nuclear strike will help, but… He has to focus make his power work, so telepathic attacks can work on him. If you have anyone who is also able to manipulate reality to counter him, it will help, but I am your best chance against him." Nephalem made it clear, with Fury looking at him for confirmation of that fact. "I've worked with Proteus for five years, I know how he thinks, acts and operates, I can predict how he will react, and my powers are confirmed to completely negate and disrupt his. And besides that, I am Weapon Plus' contingency in case Proteus ever realized his full potential."
"That son of bitch just took out all of Fantastic Four like they were a bunch of wimps, and you think you can just take him on?" Fury asked of him.
"They didn't train to take him on in a fight, I did. I can take on, Director, and he won't resist the temptation of fighting me." Nephalem assured him.
"Yeah, and why is that?" Fury asked of him.
"Because he is a self-obsessed raping monster who thinks himself a god, and I am the one person that has always put him back in his place, every single time. He hates my guts even more than I hate him, and that will make him predictable." Nephalem assured Fury. "Send us in London, and I'll kill him for all he has done."
"Alright, though I can't say I agree with this plan of yours, kid. Cyclops, you and your team are going to London. Assist Nephalem in every way you can, do as he says. I'll give Avengers a call and inform them about the plan. You watch yourself out there, kid." Fury said, as he disconnected.
"Fury may be Director of SHIELD, but the X-Men are not part of it, and we are not killers. We will go to London and stop Proteus, but we will not kill him, and neither will you or Eva, do I make myself clear, Nephalem?" Cyclops asked with an authoritarian tone, something that didn't even faze Nephalem.
"You can bark orders as loud and often as you can, but I'm not taking any chances with Proteus. He is a monster, one of his own choice and making, and the longer he remains alive, the more power he gets." Nephalem stated to Cyclops. "You can play Boy Scout all you want, Cyclops, but I don't have the luxury of your enlightened beliefs. Now get us there, we have a city and the world to save." At least that, Cyclops didn't try to oppose.
Sometime later. London.
Though it was less than half an hour since the contact with Nick Fury, the situation in London seemed to deteriorate even faster and worse than it was. All of London's metropolitan was turned into something out of this world, and evacuation of the nearby suburbs and even closest towns, villages and cities as far as fifty miles away was being done. But worst of all, was the casualty reports that were being heard over the radio and sensed by telepaths, and none could say clearly how many were dead or were dying every second this entire pandemonium continued. One thing was certain- Proteus was as merciless as Nephalem had stated him to be, and if his roughest estimations were correct, he has already surpassed Magneto in terms of body count.
The Blackbird tried to approach directly the tower where Proteus was standing, but it seemed like he had seen them, and instead used his own powers to send them veering off course. It took all of Magneto's and Storm's efforts to stabilize them and not just go down in flames, but the damage was done, and now the various beasts of Proteus' conjurations now began to attack them, and not even lightning bolts of Storm could stop them. One of them tore off the hatch into the jet and prepared to enter, but a gunshot was heard immediately after, and pieces of his head went flying, just as Nephalem kicked the monster out. Jumping out of the falling gliding plane with both of his guns in his hands, he acted on pure instinct and put his reflexes and skills to the test, as he began firing from both hands at the demons, angels and whatever stood in the way of his fall.
Firing with both hands at a speed that surpassed that of normal man and with guns that could break normal men, Nephalem was grateful for the fact that he was no normal man, and for the fact that Morgana had charmed his guns, making so that they had infinite ammo and wouldn't break or warp because of constant fire. And so he fired as many rounds as he could, hitting and destroying monsters as he descended down faster and faster, but when a winged chimera began to gain on him from below, he put away his guns, and then took out Yamato from his back, unsheathing the blade.
Spinning his entire body and becoming a living sawblade, Nephalem shredded through the beast, cutting down in half, and then some more that came after it. Knowing that he needed to decelerate or else he might break his entire body upon fall, Hadrian summoned his powers, engulfing himself in the aura of blue, and then literally propelled himself towards the closest beast. Landing on it and then he jumped from it to another, and then another, using the monsters as platforms, before he reached the ground, while all of monsters died from well-placed strikes.
Once on the ground, Hadrian saw that he had veered away from the Blackbird and it landed in a location where the Avengers were last sighted. Estimating at least half a mile of distance, he prepared to traverse the perverted landscape of London, when he was noticed by Proteus' creations, surging all around him. The first two beasts, a mix of lizard and canine, leapt towards him and then one's brains were splattered all on the pavement, and the other was impaled to the ground by Yamato, jammed in his skull
"Alright, fellas." Hadrian said, holding Ombre in left hand and bushing his hair upwards, to not have his vision impaired. "Who's next?" He asked of them, grabbing his sword and taking it out of the ground and dead husk of a monster.
The following several minutes were among the most intense and brutal that Nephalem had ever faced in his life, as the ungodly amount of monsters and everything that Proteus had produced within his mind tried to take a bite out of Hadrian. Ducking, slashing, stabbing, shooting, blasting- all that and more Nephalem had performed in the fullest, striking down as many monsters as kept coming towards him. Understanding that it was a fool's errand to try and destroy them all, Nephalem decided to execute a fighting withdrawal, as he projected a powerful energy wave that blasted away his enemies and gave him a window of opportunity to move.
Leaping from the ground into the crumbling building and running through it, Harry moved as fast as he could, slashing in a blink of an eye two more monsters, before he leapt back into the streets. Without even coming to a full stop and sending power into Yamato, Hadrian sent a series of energy cuts that slashed at the building, which was now filled to the brim with the monsters that he earlier ditched. Another energy blast from the hand, and the building crumbled to dust, burying the monsters inside or crushing them, creating a cloud of dust that filled the small square and blinded demons that now surrounded Hadrian.
Just as dust cloud settled, powerful blasts of twin handguns and casings of .454 Casull falling onto ground filled the air, as the monsters heads, limbs and bodies were being turned into meat waste. Though the cloud from rubble had blinded the monsters, it did not impair Nephalem and he had far more enhanced senses of smell, sound and just his telepathy. A dust cloud was not a problem for him and in a matter of half a second he cleared the place, before he placed them back in holsters and he rushed forward.
Covering a good bit of distance, Nephalem heard a roar of a large creature, which didn't belong to any monster that he had met so far, and then he was forced to flip backward, as a massive ogre smashed in the building at Nephalem's left. Taking a quick glance at it, he then turned to the one who sent it, and then he saw who the source of that roar was, as he was turning the demons and monsters into punching bags.
"HULK SMASH STUPID MONSTERS! HULK IS THE STRONGEST THERE IS!" The green giant that was The Hulk bashed and crushed all monsters from big to small, as they continued to swarm him.
Understanding the basic principal of strength in numbers, and also having one strongest creatures on the planet on his side being beneficial, Hadrian wiped out his guns and began to fire, helping Hulk. First he blasted off those who had grabbed on to The Hulk and then those who attacked from the air, Hadrian made his way to the big green smasher, before whipping out Yamato and going at them with as much ferocity as the green goliath. After at least two dozens more monsters gone, Hadrian decided to end this for good.
"Hey, big guy! Stand behind me!" Hadrian told Hulk and he decided to listen, doing as he said, while Hadrian channeled up his power in the sword. "School's out, boys. Now split!" And then he unleashed a slashing wave from his sword, destroying all of the monsters that were coming at them, sheathing his blade afterwards.
"Huh, Sword guy slash pretty good." Hulk admitted, as he looked his new ally. "Hulk doesn't know Sword guy, but you help me, so I guess you are not one of them."
"Nah, big guy, I'm not. You are pretty good at smashing them yourself." Hadrian admitted, as he caught his breath while he could. "I'm Nephalem, by the way."
"I'm Hulk, but I don't know no Nephalem." Hulk stated. "Are you with the X-Men?"
"Let's just say I'm new in the business, and yeah, I came along with them. Did you see them?" Nephalem asked of him.
"They crashed down that way." Hulk pointed in which way they were. "Hulk tried to help, but then monsters showed up and tried to smash Hulk, but I smashed them instead." Hulk stated with pride.
"Yeah, you've smashed them up quite good." Hadrian admitted, as he looked at his work. "Hulk, where are the rest of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four?"
"Hm, probably somewhere that a way as well. We got split up when we tried to smash the Tower, but Tower smashed back at us, and Hulk ended up here." He explained, pointing at the black construct in the far distance.
"We need to get to them, or else the guy who caused all of this will smash us all up, even you, big guy." Nephalem stated.
"Tower guy can try, but Hulk will smash him!" He stated with anger.
"I don't doubt you, but that bastard has already turned this place in a hellhole, and he'll continue to do so unless we get together and make a plan to smash him in proper fashion." Nephalem stated, as the monsters began to appear again. "We can stay here and smash them, or we can go and smash the one who makes them. Your choice, big guy."
"Huh, Hulk will smash the guy who makes them." Hulk stated with confidence. "Now, what's the plan?"
"Get to rest of the people regroup, can you cover that distance?" Nephalem asked, with Hulk nodding, so Hadrian jumped on his back. "Alright, go ahead." And with the roar, Hulk jumped in the air and went towards the direction in which the Avengers and others currently were.
Hulk didn't disappoint Hadrian and he indeed covered that distance in but one leap, landing right on top of a massive centaur crushing his midsection, with Hadrian slashing his head off, before he leapt off and began to make his way towards those who still continued to fight. Thor, Storm, Magneto and Captain Marvel were all fighting in the skies, trying to keep them clean for them, while the rest of X-Men, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Wasp, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were fighting on the ground, all in not such a good state. Wolverine was the first one to see Hadrian join them, just as he sliced up a hybrid of crab and scorpion.
"Nice of ya to finally join us, bub!" He said with a growl, as he ripped another demon apart, while Hadrian decapitated a knight-like monster, before kicking his head at a giant fly that was about to attack Wolverine, crushing it.
"Wasn't my smartest move, I know!" Nephalem admitted, leaping up in the air and cutting apart a small flock of demonic ravens, before landing near Logan and helping him with an ogre by disemboweling him. "But at least I brought some help."
"Yeah, thanks for that!" Wolverine said, as Hulk proceeded to crush and smash the incoming enemies. "We are getting swarmed here, and we can't seem to make a dent at on them."
"You won't, not unless you attack Proteus directly." Nephalem stated, preparing to destroy another monster, only for it to be pushed away by the shield of Captain America, who then came and picked it up. "Captain." Nephalem greeted him.
"Nephalem, I presume?" Captain asked, with Hadrian nodding to him. "Fury gave us the gist, said you know the one responsible for this pandemonium."
"Yeah, I do, and he knows me, but he doesn't know I'm here yet." Nephalem admitted, before finally looking behind Captain. "Why are you holed up in here? Doesn't look like the best defensible position." At that moment, Nephalem's Yamato sliced off another monster's head, while Captain crushed his opponents head.
"You got that right, solider, but we've got no choice, since this is where Fantastic Four ended up. Ant Man and Stark are trying to help them, along with Beast, but something is wrong with them, and we don't know what it is. So we are trying to protect them and survive." Captain stated, as he kicked a giant spider in the head, while Nephalem severed his legs, before splitting it in two. "Good thing you've brought The Hulk, at least now we've got more of a fighting chance."
"My pleasure." Nephalem stated, before leaping up in the air and severing a head of another troll, landing near Rogers. "What's the problem with the FF?"
"You are asking the wrong person, soldier. All I know is that they are in pain and it is something that burns them up. My guess is that Proteus, or whatever his name is, has done something to them when they tried to attack him." Captain stated, before throwing his shield, smashing and hitting a group of enemies, before his shield returned to him.
"I might be able to help them. My power lets me nullify the abilities of other super powered beings, including mutants." Nephalem stated, as he took Ombre and blasted five more monsters.
"Might be worth a try. Go and help them, soldier, we'll hold the line." Captain commanded him and Nephalem obeyed, rushing towards where the Fantastic Four were laid on the ground, looking worse for wear, with tears of unnatural color forming on their bodies, as they writhed in agony.
"Hey, hey, that's restricted area, or didn't you get the memo?" Tony Stark asked of Nephalem, with his armor missing.
"He is with us, Mr. Stark. I told you about him, he is Nephalem." Beast immediately spoke up, standing up for his ally. "It is a relief to see you rejoin us in such short notice, after your memorable exit."
"Yeah, not my best idea." Hadrian said dismissively, as he looked at the Four. "Anyone can explain what's wrong with them in more common terms, instead of scientific ones?"
"Well, to put it bluntly and in simplified terms, they are becoming thermos-nuclear bombs, to the equivalent of such." Ant-Man replied, as he read the data on his pad. "It would appear that Proteus had somehow managed to charge up the cosmic energy present within their cells, and now it is rising in potency and power."
"In other words, they are becoming bombs." Nephalem said, with Hank Pym nodding to him. "Potential blast yield?"
"From scale one to ten? How about does it matter, since it'll take us all out if we don't do something and fast?" Stark replied with snide. "As enticing as getting blown by Invisible Woman is, I much rather still remain in one piece afterwards."
"Would you mind keeping the vulgarities to the minimum?" Beast asked, as he made projections. "From my calculations, the blast yield will be enough to… take out half of Eastern England and all in here, and we have limited time."
"Alright… Everyone, stand back! Move it, guys, I mean it!" Nephalem commanded them and they complied. "I'll try and nullify that energy, but I never did on four people at once, and with that much power as they have. Do you have anyone who can absorb cosmic power or something like that?" Nephalem asked, as he began to power up.
"Did someone say, "Absorb cosmic powers?" Captain Marvel landed near and moved to Nephalem. "Hey there, fly boy. Nice maneuvers on the landing." She said with a small chuckle to Nephalem.
"Thanks, and name's Nephalem. You can absorb their powers, if I can't nullify it?" Nephalem asked, as he powered up.
"Yeah, I'm all about it." Marvel confirmed, and then Nephalem engulfed the Fantastic Four in his force field, and began using his power to try and nullify their might.
"Shit… Proteus did a number on them, alright…" He said through gritted teeth, as he used as much of his powers as he could to contain and defuse the energy. "Ugh… C-can't d-do all F-four… Too much power…" Nephalem stated, as he felt the strain on his body and power, as he tried to defuse it all, or at the very least contain without exploding.
"Then don't, defuse those you can and then transfer the rest to me! Do not push yourself too much, fly boy." Captain Marvel told him, reassuring him, and Hadrian went on to nullify Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic, rendering them powerless, but saving their lives. "That's it, they are getting better! You are doing great, Nephalem. Can you do the Thing and Human Torch?"
"N-no… C-can extract, but i-it'll break a-away next second…" Nephalem stated through the pressure and pain.
"Then get it out of them, Nephalem. I'll handle them." Captain Marvel assured him, and Nephalem used all of his might to extract the unstable cosmic energy right out of the Human Torch and the Thing, turning the latter back human.
The moment all of energy was out of them and the blue energy field began to break down, Marvel pushed with a low powered energy blast everyone, including Nephalem, in order to keep them out of the yield radius, without harming everyone. Once she did it, she immediately flew straight towards the mass of cosmic powers and groaned as it fused with her being, empowering and overflowing her body. Only few times she felt herself like that, like she held the very star inside of her being, and it changed her form, as she became seemingly overwhelmed with power, as she flew right up, gaining as much height as she could, before she knew that she had the control. Once she understood that her power was under control, Captain Marvel unleashed the very might of cosmos, as her Binary form stabilized and she went to town on monsters. The rest of the Avengers and X-Men could only staring in awe as she blasted into smithereens what were endless hordes of monsters.
"Marvel knows how to smash." Hulk said with respect, with others agreeing with him.
"Yeah, that she does." Nephalem agreed, regain his strength at the sight of this beautiful, cosmically empowered woman laying down the mother of smackdowns on the monsters.
And then, she unleashed what amounted to a sun flare condensed and concentrated around London, burning to cinders and ashes all the monsters that were in the vicinity of it. The skies cleared and the very air felt like it became clearer, and in that moment, Captain Marvel, returned back to her normal state, plummeted down, unable to remain in the skies. Fortunately, for her, before she was forced to meet the pavement in a blunt and painful way, Nephalem jumped with all of his empowered might and caught Captain. Landing with her, holding her carefully in a bridal fashion, the exhausted heroine looked at her savior and spoke up with a tired smile.
"S-so, f-fly boy, d-did I do well?" She asked weakly.
"Well? Ma'am, you were a true Marvel to behold." Nephalem said with a smile to her, as she chuckled at his pun, but accepted the sincere praise.
"A-all in the d-day's work…" Marvel said, as she drifted into unconsciousness and Nephalem laid her gently.
"That was a truly splendid show of her might." Thor landed, as he looked with respect at Captain Marvel. "Truly, Captain Marvel once more confirmed her place amongst our ranks. And you, your selfless act is worthy of true defender of Midgard."
"She's the real deal here. As for me… I'm just cleaning up a massive mess." Nephalem said dismissively about himself, as he rose up.
"Self-admonishment after a feat of heroism is does not befit a hero, be they new or old." Thor stated.
"Trust me, I am no hero." Nephalem said, as he moved closer to Captain America and Cyclops, as they and others used this chance to catch their breath.
"Are you done showing off?" Cyclops asked with a glare of Nephalem. "I was under the impression that you were a professional soldier, not a reckless punk, charging head long in danger."
"Funny, I was about say the same thing about you." Nephalem replied, with Cyclops' visor getting redder. "I told you that it was mistake trying to attack him directly, yet what did you do?"
"It was part of the plan, but you decided to go skydiving all of a sudden." Cyclops retorted.
"I've cleared up the skies for you, so you could get out of there without any flying trash blowing up your engines… You know what, we've got neither time nor luxury to argue." Nephalem stated, with Captain agreeing with him.
"I wasn't finished…" Cyclops didn't think it was Nephalem's place to end this argument, but Captain stopped him.
"Cyclops, Nephalem is right. The longer we bicker, the more time Proteus has time to send another wave at us. So lay off of him, soldier." Steve Rogers stated with force, with Cyclops relenting, with Captain America turning to Nephalem. "Alright, son, you know that guy better than anyone. How do we stop him?"
"Woah, Cap, you are trusting this newbie to come with a plan?" Janet van Dyne asked with a surprise.
"In current situation, he is our best chance at beating him, as Nick Fury had stated, and the old man doesn't make jokes about saving the world." Captain said to everyone, before he turned back to Nephalem. "So, do you have a plan or an idea?"
"An idea, yeah, but it's 50 percent hope, and 50 percent based on my experience." Nephalem admitted.
"Better than anything I have, so go ahead." Rogers admitted to him.
"Alright, Eva, Jean Grey, I need you right here!" Eva quickly came to him, while Jean moved more slowly, as she was seemingly communicating with someone. "What's up with her?"
"Our Miss Goody Two Shoes here has been trying to convince Proteus to stop what he was doing, all this time!" Eva said with exasperation, while Jean stopped her attempts, finally. "At least she didn't just reveal to him that you and I are here."
"Ugh, Kevin seems to treat all of this as a game. I tried to appeal to his humanity, but it's like he has completely discarded it, embracing the cruelty and destruction, treating it… as if it all was a game to him." Jean Grey stated with an expression of shock. "I… I don't understand how can someone just fully revel in all of this?"
"Sometimes, young maiden, most innocent of looks may hide the foulest monsters inside them, yet this… creature casts a bloody shadow even upon the foulest of wretches of Hel." Thor stated with hatred. "Even Loki at his worst would cause death and destruction on a scale such as this, just because he wished to entertain himself!"
"Like I said, that guy is no human or mutant at this point. He is a monster, not made or forced into being one, but one of his own choice and making!" Nephalem practically growled at the X-Men's telepath, before calming himself. "Anyway, his power is based around focus and concentration, so if we disrupt those, we will be able to reverse the effects, unless his powers have progressed to the point to make changes permanent. Getting close to him as he is now will only get us swarmed and put in an endless battle, if not worse."
"I still say we must go to him and stop him right now!" Cyclops stated with fervor, while Hulk huffed.
"Yeah, Hulk also wanna smash him, but Hulk doesn't like smashed, especially twice in one day, so no thanks." Hulk stated, with Cyclops turning to him.
"What's the matter? Is the big green Hulk is scared of some scary mommy's boy smacking you around?" Cyclops asked with a near sneer, with Hulk growling in anger. "I thought Hulk was supposed to be the strongest there is, yet all I see a big crybaby, who can't even hit some wimp." At that point Hulk roared in fury, preparing to smash Cyclops.
"Hulk, stand down!" Captain's order was enough to calm him down, if only a little, before he turned to Cyclops. "Summers, Avengers aren't your X-Men. You can antagonize your teammates all you want, but you mock one of us, and I'll show you how a true leader fights his battles."
"Aye, and I shall show thee how a true warrior does battle." Thor added, insulted by blatant antagonism Cyclops showed towards one of Avengers, before he turned to Nephalem. "Speak, Nephalem, what thou suggest we do against this Proteus?"
"He needs focus and concentration to control this circus, then we take it away from him, without coming close to him, or at least leave him wide open for a concentrated attack." Nephalem stated to them. "Eva, Jean, remember how I knocked you out? Now we've got to do it on him, all three of us."
"A concentrated psychic pulse? You think this will work on him?" Eva asked.
"He is comprised of psychic energy, yes, but he still thinks that he is a man, or at least his mind does, given that Miss Grey here has been trying to converse with him all this time." Nephalem told Eva, who admitted to this being true. "We focus on him and give him the mother of all psychic pulses, and if we are lucky, we'll take him out."
"Sounds like a plan to me. I'm in." Eva said, immediately linking and synchronizing her mind with Nephalem's. "C'mon, Marvel Girl, we need to do it in sync, or else it'll just piss him off."
"I… I can't do it." She said nervously. "I don't yet have enough practice with my telepathy, and when I last tried such a thing I nearly killed a man. The Professor has strictly stated that I shouldn't…"
"Well in our case, that is what we need." Eva said, yet she saw how hesitant the X-Girl was. "Grey, this is no training simulation, or a seminar in the Institute. This is a real battle, and right now, you are no student, but a fighter and a warrior. Professor is not here, and right now, you are no student. You are an X-Man, so be one, be a freaking hero and do what must be done!" She stated to her with fervor, seemingly snapping back Jean Grey in to the gear, and she linked up with Nephalem and Eva.
"Alright, on my mark, you put as much pressure and power on him as you can, and you hold it. No matter what, you must hit him and keep hitting him with everything you have in you. No relenting, not even if it means saving your life." Nephalem stated it mostly to Jean Grey, as they focused and gathered all of their telepathic might. "Mark!" And after that, the three telepaths unleashed the absolute hell upon Proteus' mind.
In the very next second, a scream of inhuman origin was heard all throughout London, as the very reality shook around them all, beginning to warp and change again. The sheer might of three would have been enough to destroy minds of entire city populations, an equivalent of being blasted by particle cannon at a near point blank range, and this was what Proteus was feeling. The buildings, air, ground and even corpses began to warp and change, as if trying to revert back to what it once was before all this, with the tower crumbling underneath Proteus' feet.
Nephalem and Eva both fought an urge to wipe away the blood coming from their nose, as they put all of their might and power into taking down Proteus, and it was clear that their combined efforts were proving to be effective. Buildings began to restructure themselves back to normal, roads and pavements returning to what they were, and even dead were beginning to revive themselves. A few more moments of this agonizing pressure, and it will all be over, and they needed to hold out, not give in and allow him even a chance at breaking the hold.
But, unfortunately for them all, there was one weak link in their trinity, someone who despite matching in power both Eva and Nephalem, sorely lacked in willpower and determination to do what had to be done. Unable to maintain her control and power, Jean Grey collapsed without strength on her knees, breaking the sync and link, causing a psychic backlash that broke the concentration of Eva and Nephalem. And in that moment the entire progress was undone in but a blink of an eye's time, and all reverted back to the way it was before the attack, as Nephalem and Eva were unable to complete the task alone.
"Jean! Jean, are you alright?" Scott immediately rushed to his girlfriend's side.
"Hey, tell me, why does it all still look like my nightmares after I had too much tacos?" Hawkeye asked of them, as Eva struggled to get up, yet managed to compose herself, while Nephalem growled in anger.
"Because we didn't finish the work, that's why!" Nephalem growled out at him. "Grey chickened out and broke the link, and that backlashed at me and Eva, and we couldn't finish it."
"I… I tried to maintain it… B-but it was t-too much to…" Jean tried to explain, but Eva wasn't having any of that, as she walked to her and grabbed her by the collar, pinning her before the stone wall.
"It was too much for you?! Bitch, you are classified as one of strongest telepaths on this very freaking planet, and you are supposed to be at least on par with me and Nephalem! Yet instead you act like fucking schoolgirl and a novice, who can't even do the most basic thing!" Eva berated her, before Cyclops stepped forward and pushed her away from his girlfriend.
"Get away from her, you heartless clone, or I swear I will blow your head off your…" Cyclops was prepared to blast Eva, but a gunshot and a bullet fired just a centimeter away from Cyclops' head was enough to stop him.
"Go ahead, Boy Scout." Nephalem growled, pointing one of his guns at him. "Next one, I'll put in her head, unless you lay off of us!" Nephalem was dead serious, as he has lost the last remnants of his patience, with Cyclops, laying off for now.
"Man, is this what your missions look like, X-Men?" Hawkeye asked with curiosity.
"Nope, usually it's me bustin' Cyclops' ass for being a jerk." Wolverine commented, while Nephalem regained his footing and thoughts. "Okay, kid, that plan failed. What now?"
"Now…"
"NEPHALEM!" Proteus' scream was heard all over London and England, drawing the attention of everyone to him and his tower.
The sheer might of that scream sent vibrations throughout the very landscape and air, but once they were over, Proteus produced a large purple wall of energy, which was moving straight towards them all. It disintegrated and destroyed all it touched, flattening all in it's path, and the size of it made impossible to outrun or dodge it, as it was taking out entire kilometers of the place.
"That's the same energy that destroyed Vision and nearly killed me." Tony Stark said with fear in his voice. "With the speed and size of it, we'll be turned into atoms in less than a…"
"Everyone, get behind me, now!" Nephalem commanded, powering up as much as he could, with most obeying, safe for Thor, who immediately went up in the air, summoning all of powers he had. "Thor, that's a literal wall of psycho-kinetic energy! It will disintegrate you if you get too close!"
"Aye, it may, but lest it is stopped, it shall take all of us, and that I cannot allow!" And after those words, Thor unleashed a near apocalyptic storm on that wall of energy, stopping it in it's tracks.
The exterminating wall stopped and buckled, as it began to lose form and stability, experiencing the might of the God of Thunder, unleashing the might of a cosmic storm through Mjolnir, yet it was only enough for a few seconds, and then began to move again towards Thor and the Avengers. But then Nephalem unleashed all of his might at the energy wall, engulfing it and destabilizing it, slowing it down and finally giving them all a chance at surviving it. And then Scarlet Witch added her own crimson might to Nephalem's and their combined power was enough to not just withstand the wave, but destroy it and the unified might of Thor, Scarlet Witch and Nephalem traveled straight towards Proteus. The powerful blast hit Proteus and his tower, crushing it to smithereens and producing an inhumanely painful scream of agony, indicating that the first real strike finally dealt to him.
Landing near the two painting casters, Thor showed his respect with a nod, while Nephalem turned to Scarlet Witch, who was supported by her brother and father, as she barely could stand.
"Th-thanks…" He said to her, fighting the exhaustion and letting his body process it out of him. "That was… That was powerful."
"Y-yeah, you too…" Scarlet Witch responded, before losing her consciousness.
"Wanda!" Quicksilver cried out, as she fell in his arms.
"She used too much of powers. Wanda was already running on fumes after saving us all from the first destroying wave, but to be able to stop another one was too much for her." Janet said, as she also helped lay her down, near Captain Marvel. "I didn't thinks she would have it in her, honestly."
"My daughter is no simple mutant, Miss van Dyne. She is an Omega level mutant, just like our adversary." Magneto stated, looking with pride at his daughter.
"Yeah, only now she is useless against him." Cyclops pointed out, with both of Lehnsherr men glaring at him. "All that power and all she did was just stop one super powered wave, couldn't she just…" At that point, Captain America has had enough and he knocked Cyclops out, by punching him square in the face.
"I was going to do that!" Pietro Maximoff stated to Captain.
"We both were slow to do that, son." Magneto admitted, before he and everyone else turned back to where Proteus was.
The tower had crumbled to bits, but the pieces of it and other ruins of buildings and roads began to float back to where Proteus was, floating and seemingly summoning all it to himself. Then, he suddenly grew in magnitude and size, growing almost to the size much greater than that of Giant Man, while the rubble continued to fly to him. Once it reached him, the pieces began to turn into a sort of liquid and cover his entire body, creating a second layer of silvery armored skin. In a matter of minutes, all of his being was covered in it, with his face also being molded in and moving, as he looked down at where the X-Men and Avengers were, speaking up.
"What do you think of me now, Nephalem? Think you and your new friends will be able to take me on now?!" Proteus asked of them, as he floated straight towards them, akin to a deity. "You always were the one to push me around, but now… Now I will DESTROY YOU!"
"He seems to harbor an intense hatred towards you, Nephalem." Thor commented.
"Aye, that he does, and feeling is mutual." Nephalem commented, as he regained enough of his strength. "Eva, form a telepathic net with everyone."
"Communications established." She stated, connecting everyone to one telepathic link for faster and better communication and coordination.
"Alright, we've managed to hurt him and hurt him badly, since he isn't summoning any more monsters and isn't able to hit us directly with another one of his waves. I can sense that he can't fully focus himself back to full capacity, hence the armor he put around himself." Nephalem relayed through telepathy. "However, he'll recover and once he does, he'll take us out."
"Then we launch multiple pronged attacks, keep him from regaining his concentration and distract him with everything we got. The more distracted he is, the weaker he'll get." Captain caught on the idea and already began to formulate the plan. "Thor, Storm, you take to the skies and fire everything you've got on him. He's covered in steel that makes him one giant rod for you."
"He'll feel the wrath of Odinson, aye!" Thor stated mentally.
"And the fury of Mother Earth as well." Storm added.
"Magneto, your job is to immobilize and to break apart that armor of his, or at the very least weaken it as much as possible. Make a weak spot, so that we would be able to him there." Captain stated, with Magneto agreeing to the plan. "Miss Eva, you are our communications. Find a safe place and keep the channel open as long as you can, so we be able to coordinate the attack on him."
"With pleasure, Captain." Eva stated, already moving to a safer location.
"Quicksilver, move the disabled out of the location and then join with the others. Tony, Hawkeye, you are get to the Quinjet, and provide us fire support from the air. Does Blackbird have weapons on board and who is your best pilot, X-Men?" Captain asked of the mutants.
"Normally, it would be Cyclops being both a pilot and gunner, but in current circumstances, I believe I can suffice for a pilot, though not as a shooter." Beast answered.
"Beast, you take Widow on board and show her how to fire whatever weapons you have, same task as with Tony and Hawkeye." Captain commanded. "Miss Grey, have you recovered enough?"
"I believe so, yes." Jean Grey replied.
"Then go with Eva and stay hidden. Your job is telepathic interference, make Proteus unfocused and unable to fully use his powers. And I do not mean by simply talking to him, like you did before." Captain stated to her. "I don't know how telepaths work exactly, but I do know that you can do make him unfocused, so do it, by whatever means needed. Do not hesitate, do not relent and most importantly, do not hold back on him."
"I will not, sir." She relayed in a meek fashion, agreeing to his orders.
"The rest are to split up into groups and attack him from different points. Distract and attack him, make him question where the real attack will come from, and when you get an opening, strike at it." Captain then split the remaining heroes to their groups, before he turned to Nephalem. "Nephalem, you are with me and Hulk. He hates you more than anyone, so he will be after you and focus on you the most."
"If you are going to tell me to go and hide, I won't Captain." Nephalem stated to him. "He is my responsibility and I know how to fight him. So no, I'm not staying the back ranks, Captain."
"You just saved us twice already, and even if you have super regeneration, you are not yet at full power." Captain argued back, to which Nephalem mentally transmitted the description of what really Nephalem was capable of. "I see… Alright, son, but you'll still fight alongside me and Hulk."
"With pleasure, Captain." And with that being said, everyone rushed to battle.
Keeping up with the two Avengers, Nephalem drew out his guns and once he was close enough to the floating form of Proteus, he began firing in his face, first to no avail, but then he noticed a weak spot, or rather two of them. Proteus had encased all of his body inside that armor, but while he didn't need no air or food, he still needed to see where he was going, and that meant that his eyes were still there. Mentally transmitting this information to the others, Hadrian began firing all he could at the massive beast, hitting him multiple times in his eyes and causing him to groan in pain and then land on the ground.
"Bullets? Seriously, you really think that bullets will be able to stop me now?!" He laughed, as he looked down on Nephalem, who had stopped and looked back at him. "And to think that I believed you to be so scary, but now… Now I see that you are nothing but an insect before ARGH!" At that moment, Nephalem fired both of his guns at his eyes, hurting him for metal was one of several weaknesses that Proteus possessed.
"Oh I am sorry, your Godliness. Thought I saw a fly or two, but now that I look at it again, I realize that it's just remnants of your mind." Nephalem mocked, as he saw the storm gathering. "And as for bullets, they weren't meant to do major damage, Kevin. But those two will." And at that moment the lightning struck Proteus, sending him in in the fit of agony.
"Taste the might of Thunder and Lightning, you abominable monster!" Thor called out, smashing Mjolnir in Proteus' skull, cracking the shell, while Quinjet and Blackbird began their runs on him, firing all they had at him.
"That's it! He can't maintain his structural integrity under so much pressure! Keep hitting him!" Captain America said, as he and Hulk began attack and breaking his armor, before being joined by Nephalem, who drew out his own sword.
Sending out cutting waves and breaking the armor in them, he then thrust the blade straight in the exposed area and sent a powerful pulse of his power, making Proteus cry in pain. The armor around his leg broke away and exposed his psychic leg, which was now destabilized and seemed to barely maintain itself in the working order. Realizing that his powers were still working on Proteus and that Yamato could break through his armor, he sent a second pulse, making Kevin fall with a crash sound on his knee, as he was still assaulted by all.
Seeing his opportunity, Nephalem propelled himself upwards and reached his armored knee, before breaking the armor with Yamato and then striking directly at him with his powers and sword. The screams increased in intensity and power, as Nephalem and others moved from one point to another, striking and attacking Proteus, with Hadrian personally already destroying near third of his armor and weakening his opponent to the point that the armor began to break apart. It was starting to look like the day was still going to be won by them, but all this agony and pain caused by Proteus had produced an unfortunate effect of him gaining a boost of powers, akin to adrenalin rushing through metaphorical veins.
"ENOUGH!" With an ungodly roar, Proteus expelled a massive and powerful psychokinetic wave, sending almost everyone flying away, while he also shattered his armor, before catching Nephalem in his arms and beginning to crush him.
"You… You think you can destroy me?!" He shouted at Nephalem, focusing all of his powers and might at Nephalem, trying to crush him, as Hadrian tried to resist by putting an energy field around himself, yet it seemed to have no effect on Proteus. "In the past, you always beat, always made me look like a weakling, threatened and treated me like I was beneath you, Nephalem! But now, look who is beneath me! Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men- I've crushed them all just now, and all that remain is you! Face it, Nephalem, I have become a God!"
"Ugh… Y-yeah, yet you still can't… e-even b-beat me!" Nephalem called back, before Proteus increased the output tenfold, nearly breaking him.
"Oh, but now I won't just beat you! I will crush you into nothingness, and after I am done with you, after I make you pay for every single humiliation you forced me through, I will go after all of your precious friends back in Weapon Plus!" Proteus promised, as he gleefully watched as he had forced Nephalem to fall on his knees, as his powers were starting to fail him. "But first, I will finally take that bitch Eva and show her what a true man is, and after that I'll make every single one of them my bitches! Talon, Blink, Gorgon and her sisters- all of them will service me like slaves they were made to be, and you will be nothing more but a memory! Now, DIE!" And after that, Proteus hit Nephalem with the same power he used to create the destructive wave before, only now fully focused on Nephalem, as it broke through the shield.
To say that Nephalem was familiar with agony would be an understatement, but before that moment, he was quite certain that he had mastered the ability to not scream under pain. As it turned out, when a body is brought to new levels of pain, one would always find ways of screaming, and Nephalem screamed as ungodly amounts of pain and agony pierced his body everywhere. Yet through he screamed and thrashed within the trap of his enemy's making, he did not feel fear for the fact that he was dying no. What he felt is fear for his closest friends, his family and all those that Proteus was going to hurt.
Eva, Laura, Gorgon, Stheno, Euryale, Blink- his family, those that he had tried to protect, those who had become the purpose of his living. He promised the freedom, to destroy Weapon Plus and finally put an end to this nightmare, but now… Now he wasn't going to be able to do it. And this feeling failing eclipsed the pain he was feeling, as Nephalem simply wasn't able to let this come to pass. He couldn't just give up, yet he was trapped and being destroyed, feeling his very being getting vaporized by Proteus. A few more seconds, and it will all be over for him…
"No…" Proteus heard a voice that he never heard before, coming from Nephalem, and then…
Then he felt like the fires of Hell and Heaven combined were burning him at the same time, as Nephalem's form started to become engulfed in the aura of his energy. Yet it was not like before, as the sheer might and power behind them was beyond anything that Proteus had felt and eventually he simply could not maintain the full focus on Nephalem, as he screamed in pain, breaking focus. And in that very moment, Nephalem's form exploded, disintegrating arms of Proteus and sending shockwaves of magical and physical nature through the air.
Proteus stepped away from Nephalem, regenerating his arms back and reconstituting himself, yet the shock and pain never go away, and then he looked at Nephalem, and felt genuine dread and fear. The entire form of Nephalem floated in the air, engulfed in the aura of unmatched power and might, as two pairs of ethereal wings, one of angelic and one of demonic design, grew from his back, as his burning eyes looked straight at Proteus. With but a wave of his hand, Yamato reappeared in his arm and flames spread to his weapon.
"Wh-what t-the hell are you?" Proteus asked of him in fear.
"I am what you can never be, Proteus." Nephalem stated to him with unnaturally powerful voice. "You may claim to be God, but I am Nephalem, Destroyer of Gods!" And after that he disappeared in the flash of light, and then Proteus' torso was severed from his legs, they disappearing from existence.
In the single moment, the tables have completely turned away from Proteus and he learned once again why Nephalem was to be feared, as his freshly empowered rival laid down the definition of decimation. Moving as fast as thought, striking as mightily as sun, Nephalem was destroying the giant form of his opponent, breaking him apart and eradicating the pieces, until Proteus was no longer able to maintain his giant form. He returned back to his normal size and it was then that Nephalem finally stopped, catching him by the throat and bringing him closer to himself, and then… Then Kevin screamed like he never screamed before, as his essence and being were being absorbed into Hadrian, taking all that he was and just fusing it with himself.
Once Proteus was fully gone and absorbed, Nephalem's aura flared up and then he unleashed a great wave of blinding power, sending shockwaves throughout the reality and dimension, as the wave travelled and engulfed all of London and everyone who were in there… And then, once it dissipated and disappeared, the devastation and death caused by Proteus, all that he had caused…
It was gone, London and it's inhabitants and everyone who fell because of him were restored, with every single deed undone. Avengers and X-Men, as they too were restored back to pre-fighting conditions, looked with shock and true amazement, as Iron Man was once more in his armor, and Vision again joined his companions.
"Mr. Stark, I appear to be experiencing a malfunction of my optical sensors, and of my chronological regulator, since I do not understand how did all revert back to normal." Vision stated, as he landed near everyone. "And my internal time does not match that of official one… And why are X-Men are here?"
"Guys, you won't believe this, but… Nephalem, he has beaten the bastard, a-and he somehow had managed to reverse the entirety of devastation and destruction!" Iron Man stated, as he looked at the readings on his sensors. "People, buildings, even clouds and weather- he restored everything to the point where it was right the moment before Proteus struck, and not just here. He reversed it all throughout the entire path of Proteus' destruction… Okay, Friday, make a recording of this: I am officially jealous and impressed of this guy."
"Recording has been made, sir." His assistant A.I. stated.
"Wait, but what about the Fantastic Four?" Janet asked, as she looked at the still unconscious and depowered heroes. "They… They are still out and their powers seem to be gone. Why didn't he change them back to normal?" She asked, as the crowds started to gather around them, while SHIELD's transports began touching down around them.
"It is only a thought of mine, but perhaps he couldn't change what he himself had done before." Wanda shared her thought, as she observed the place. "His powers, they are… It felt strangely similar, yet distinct to mine, and yet… He did all he could, and he saved everyone he could." She said with awe in her surroundings.
"Speaking off our savior, where has he gone off to?" Black Widow asked aloud, before she and everyone saw Nephalem land before them, his aura gone, with but his wings remaining, as he released from his grip a young man that was younger than Nephalem himself. "Wait, is that…"
"Proteus or rather him in his very original body, one that had long been lost." Eva confirmed to everyone, as she and Jean joined the rest of them before she psychically scanned Kevin. "It's him, but he is now no longer a mutant. Hadrian… He depowered him." She stated to everyone, as they turned with surprise on their eyes and looked at Hadrian and Kevin.
"Wh-what have you done to me? Why am I back in this body? Where is all my power?!" Kevin cried out, as he felt weaker than he had ever been in life, after he was brought down from godhood.
"I took your power, and used it to undo everything that you've caused, Proteus, or rather, Kevin." Hadrian stated to him as a matter of a fact. "You know, I will give you that: yes, you were more powerful than me, infinitely more. Wraith, Essex, and even your mother recognized that, hence why they had to limit you, make you weaker than you really are, because otherwise you would've just outgrown us all in a matter of days, and then… Then there would be no one who could stop you."
"T-then why… Why did you take it all away from me, Nephalem?! I was just like you, a victim…" At that point, Nephalem backhanded him, sending him flying down onto the ground.
"A victim? Kevin, you were never a victim, and never one us, because one fundamental difference- we did not choose to be weapons in hands of Wraith, but you did." Hadrian stated, as Kevin wiped away blood from his mouth and nose. "You were always the one with the choice, and you chose to believe them all about your limitations, and even with them, you could've escaped and left them hundreds of times. Every single time you were out there, and even when you were at the base, you could've escaped all this time, because you had the means and will to do it, but did you? No, you stayed and accepted being a weapon, and then… Then you became a monster."
"And you think that it all gives you the right to judge me?! You have as much blood on your hands as I do, even more so! How many of your supposed friends you had to kill, huh?! You have no right to chastise me, when you yourself is no better!" Kevin screamed. "You had no right to do this to me! You fucking bastard, you robbed me of everything."
"Yes, and you are right about my sins, Kevin. But the difference is that you never repented or received a penalty for them, but me… Every death, every crime, every taken life, friend or foe, I felt and lived it through their mind." Nephalem revealed to him and everyone. "Whenever on of us was taken to be autopsied, I was there with them, in their mind and taking the pain, helping them. Every time I had to fight and kill my friend, I took their pain from their mind and allowed them to die peacefully. Every time one of the girls was raped or abused, I was there for them, soothing them and helping them by taking away the agony. This was my penance, Kevin, for everything I've done, and as for you, this will be yours."
"I really wanted to kill you, and in that moment when I took your powers, it was oh so easy… But it would've been not a right thing to do, not to you, but to everyone you hurt, raped, killed and abused." Nephalem's eyes hardened, as Kevin realized what he was in for. "That's right, Kevin. You will face judgment for all you have done, as the sole freely employed enforcer of Weapon Plus. This is my vengeance towards you, and this time, you have not a single way out. But you know what is sad in all this? You had the power to change the world, become the greatest hero in all of history, even a real god, but instead… Instead, you became a monster, and for the first time of my life, I do pity you, Kevin, for becoming such a failure and waste of greatness and power." And after that, Nephalem, turned away from him, walking away.
"D-don't turn your back to me, Nephalem! Y-you must give me back my powers, you must…" Kevin got up and tried to run and hit Hadrian, only to tackled by SHIELD Agents, being pinned down to the ground.
"I… If I didn't see it myself, I wouldn't believe it. You did it, fly boy, you saved everyone…" Captain Marvel and others moved to him, as she praised him, but then she saw his condition. "Hey, are you okay?"
"Y-yeah… Never… better." At that moment, Nephalem's arm weakened and his sword slipped out of it, as his feet gave way and he fell forward, with Marvel catching him.
"He needs medical attention ASAP! Medics!" Hawkeye immediately called out to them.
"N-no… Medics…" Nephalem spoke, using all his strength to just say words. "M-must… save… f-family…" He muttered, as his body began to succumb to the pressure and absolute exhaustion.
"Family? We will save them, Nephalem. I promise you, we'll save them." Marvel stated to him gently, promising him. "Rest up, fly boy. You were a real Marvel to watch." She told him, as she felt him finally lose conscience.
"The kid should've lost it back when he saved us from Four exploding, yet even after that he went on to beat that bastard… That's not just stubbornness. That is a goddamn resolve." Wolverine commented, as Captain Marvel, along with Eva and Scarlet Witch, helped gently put him on a gurney.
"Aye, even Gods would've gave in to fatigue half way through after what he did, and yet he persisted." Thor observed. "Today, the halls of Asgard and Valhalla will hear the tale of Nephalem from my very lips, and mead shall be raised in his honor. So decrees Thor Odinson."
"What did he mean by his family? Who did he want saved?" Captain America asked of X-Men and Eva, and Eva immediately used her telepathic abilities to transmit all that they needed to know, and eyes of Steve Rogers hardened with determination. "Avengers, assemble. We've got work to do, and a debt to repay."
"Yeah, well get in line, Rogers, 'cause we also owe to the kid." Wolverine stated, taking a glance at him, a hint of respect evident in his eyes. "Someone's gonna have to go with him, see to him being treated and all that."
"The X-Men do not associate with the SHIELD, like the Avengers do, so none of us are going." Cyclops stated with authority.
"You leave that to me." Suddenly, Nick Fury, Director of SHIELD, spoke up as he walked past the crowd, flanked by Morgana Le Fay and Dorea Potter-Black. "I'll look after the kid, while you heroes do your job, and God help you if you mess it up, 'cause if you let a single son of a bitch escape from there, I'll have all of your hides."
"Fury, well ain't that a surprise. You do not order the X-Men, and…" Cyclops tried to argue, but didn't get the opportunity.
"Don't worry, not a single rat will escape the island. You've got my word." Wolverine assured him.
"Now that's what I want to hear, Logan." Fury told him, as he moved to Dorea and Morgana, who already near unconscious Nephalem, with former crying and holding her grandson's hand.
"Out of curiosity, Fury, why would Director of the SHIELD personally decide to show up and see to him getting the needed treatment?" Stark asked of him.
"And who said I'm here as a Director of the SHIELD, Stark?" Fury asked of him in return. "I'm here as a guy who had failed his godson for five years straight, and who just sent him against the most dangerous motherfucker I ever seen, and beat him. Now, get your asses moving, heroes!" He ordered them, as he knelt before Nephalem, while the heroes scurried away.
"He is barely breathing…" Dorea said through tears. "I just found him, and now… I can't lose him, Nick."
"You ain't gonna lose him, Dorea, I promise you. Morgana, get us a portal to Triskelion open." Fury asked of her, before he turned to Nephalem. "You did great, son. You did great."
Phew, it has been a while since I've written a chapter this long, but damn was it worth it! I will admit that I didn't plan it to be this long, but when I started, I just couldn't stop and even though I could've split it up, I decided to simply get it over with ASAP, and so here it is, with a bit of a delay. I hope that you will find it enjoyable and a satisfactory one.
Now, about the obvious things. Yeah, I did take inspiration from the Devil May Cry with weapons and looks of Hadrian, inspired by the Dark Knight Sparda (who did wield Yamato before his son Vergil). I admit it fully and while I could have made it less obvious, I could not resist myself, so I hope you can forgive this weakness of mine. Will I include more stuff from that universe and the others? Yes, I will.
Also, I believe a few things need to be said about the characters and their attitudes, also apologies if I've somehow didn't do them justice in one way or the other.
First off, about Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, who is one of my all-time favorite heroines, and one I actually grew up with reading about and I very much enjoyed her solo and team-up adventures. I love her character BEFORE she became Captain Marvel, because as Miss Marvel (which I remember her as) she was a truly strong heroine, not perfect or just plain stereotypical, but one with nuance, flaws and mistakes, yet she grew over it and moved on to become a better person and heroine.
As Ms. Marvel, she showed that she was both serious, but also like to have fun and was grounded in a good way. But when she became Captain Marvel and after what was done to her… I will admit, that I am not opposed to her being Captain Marvel as a way of taking up the mantle of her friend/mentor/love interest, but the way she was executed had ruined nearly EVERYTHING that made her great for me. Hence, I will say, that Carol in my story will based on her character before she became "Carl Manvers" who was a real heroine, with character, loved to have fun and aspired to do good and wasn't full on fascist (Civil War II really messed her up), and I warn you: I did not watch Captain Marvel movie. Just wanted to get it out of my chest, sorry about it.
Now, about Cyclops… Okay, I will admit that I am biased towards him, and I am a Wolverine fan primarily, so yeah, I am do not like Cyclops. Not because he is lame or because his powers are bad, but because, as a character he is just unappealing to me. He prefers to antagonize and push the buttons of his teammates whenever he needs them to do what he feels they must, and in recent years, before House of X (didn't read it yet) he has gone a full on extremist fascist! And do not get me started on his marital habits… Anyway, do not expect me to be treating him lightly, even if I realize and understand that he has been purposefully ruined as a character by Marvel over years, but still! I am not Cyclops' fan, and that is just it. Hope you do not mind that.
And about Jean Grey, I know that is much stronger than that, but back in her early story, she was kinda no so strong and not as badass as she is now. Don't worry, she'll get better. Unlike with Cyclops, she is one of my favorite X-Men, or rather, X-Babes (I know I am terrible :))
Also about True Sources, that one was inspired by The Witcher universe, where Sources are extremely powerful beings, capable of basically infinite magical manipulations and all that, with Ciri being one. In here, Sources are similar to that, as they are also extremely powerful and are capable of insane feats of power, with Hadrian being the latest one born yet. Oh, and Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver here are children of Magneto, because the retcons done to them are BS!
Now, shortly about Proteus, I did empower him quite a bit, but since he is an Omega level mutant (example of one is Magneto who literally destroy our world) it is not outside the realm of possibility that he might be able to become so powerful, especially with his OP broken ability of manipulating reality. And as for Nephalem, like Sinister had stated, he was made to destroy Gods, and Hadrian's power is also an Omega level, even if he doesn't fully realize or use it. As for how he fixed everything, his can manipulate the powers and energies of other mutants or super powered beings, so yeah, it stands to reason that he would be able to absorb and use their powers, if only ones…
Oh, and about Fantastic Four, yeah, I know that I depowered them, but it will be a point of another adventure in the future for Nephalem.
Now, time to wrap this one up. Leave you comments about the story, suggest romantic interests, future events to cover, feel free to ask any questions about the story, I will happily try to answer it all. Thank you all again for your support of this story.
Next time: Aftermath.
