A deep breath in… keep your aim steady. Release it slowly through your mouth… squeeze the trigger lightly. A loud CRACK sounds throughout the sky. Like thunder without lightning, a bullet rips through the air at a supersonic speed. The bullet collides with the flesh of a man's face ending it's journey in the concrete behind him.

Two shadows sit on a rooftop 14 blocks from the now dead man. "Shot confirmed. Target Alpha down." said the female shadow with a thick polish accent, confirming what the man already knew from just looking through his scope. Afterall, he is the one who pulled the trigger. The woman stretched out her arms in front of herself releasing a loud sigh in the process,"Well, I guess that's it then. We can finally pack up and head back to Hereford."

…."Yea, I guess you're right." the man said in response. His eyes couldn't help but wander slightly as the woman pressed her breasts together unintentionally during her stretch. The man mentally shook himself, and began taking apart his sniper rifle. Once a moment had passed, he looked back over at his temporary partner and studied her for a moment as she put her things back in her combat sack. "Do you think anyone even noticed we were gone?" he chuckled trying to keep a conversation with his ally. Out of the six weeks they were here in Japan, neither of them had really talked much. He was kind of starting to feel bad.

The green haired girl giggled and turned to look at the man. It was true the two were pretty introverted compared to some of their fellow operators. The two were typically the ones you would find in the corners of their frequent "parties" that they have back at base. "Hm, everyone, but Valkyrie will probably think we're new," she says as she chuckles again, "or maybe they won't even notice we got back." The man gave one last short laugh and finished packing up his things, "C'mon, Ela, let's get home." Already having finished putting all of her things back in her pack she simply nodded to the man and gestured for him to lead the way.

As they left the rooftop, and onto the staircase of the building they had been camping out in for the past couple of weeks, Ela turned back to look at the beautiful japanese sunset. "You comin' Ela?" the man called out from the stairs below.

"Yea, sorry. Just wanted one last look," then she turned, closing the door and following her partner. She had spent most of the mission looking through binoculars so the sunset felt like new.

They exited the building and noticed a small group of law enforcement vehicles speeding past them in the direction the russian man just sent his bullet.

They reached the car they had been allowed and threw their things in the backseat."Hey Glaz? You mind if I drive us to the airport?" The polish women asked unsure of how controlling Timur was about driving. He looked at her and just walked around to the passenger's side of the vehicle, and plopped on the seat. Ela opened the door and got into the car herself. She started up the engine and pulled out onto the busy Tokyo street.

Their plane touched down in the evening the next day and as they walked out of the airport they noticed the typical black SUV waiting by the curb to take them home. Ela was the first to jump into the vehicle, wanting nothing more than to get back to base where her bed was waiting for her. Glaz got in the front seat and immediately went back to sleep.

The girl decided to take the 3 hour long drive back to base as an opportunity to think about the only person she actually missed for these 6 weeks. Gazing out the window and listening to the soft rock music the driver had started playing on low volume. She let her mind wander to all things involving the blonde navy seal she held so dear. Somewhere along the way she ended up dozing off with her head leaning on the window. She was roused from her sleep slightly as she felt someone open the door and lift her out of the SUV,"Can you grab her pack please Eliza?" She heard a familiar american voice ask softly.

Not being able to let herself be carried by her friend while she was conscious she peered her eyes open and looked up at her blonde friend."You can put me down Meghan I'm awake."

The blonde looked down at her and flashed her charming smile at the girl she was holding,"Welcome back to the land of the living El," She stated as she gently lowered the polish woman to the ground. She stood and looked at Ela,"Was the mission rough or are you getting that lazy? The driver and Glaz both had tried to wake you." The smaller woman let out a laugh as she watched Ela finally realise it was very late at night and the only people with her were her two friends.

"Nie jestem leniwy, tylko zmęczona. Dupek." Ela responded under her breath in her native tongue.

Valkyrie merely laughed and nodded, "The only thing that I got from that is that you think I'm an asshole."

"C'mon guys, as much as I love watching you two flirt can we go inside? It's cold and I have a warm bed and girlfriend waiting for me." Eliza chimed from behind the green haired girl, handing her her combat pack and walking towards the entrance of their base. Both women looked at eachother and rolled their eyes at their friend's antics, following behind her and into the base.

"So, really how was it?" Meghan questioned looking at the slightly taller girl with concern. As they passed the common area that they used to socialize the blonde waved to everyone sitting and talking, but continued walking knowing her friend didn't like to be around everyone right after a mission."Did you complete your objective?"

Ela hummed her response as they came to the door to her personal quarters. She opened the door and motioned for Valkyrie to enter. Their quarters weren't big, but they all came standard with a double bed, kitchenette, bathroom with a shower, and a large window with blackout drapes. Stepping through the threshold the polish women immediately made a beeline for her bathroom. Sending the blonde a "one sec", and setting her baseball cap and earmuffs on the counter. The muscular woman went and sat down in the chair by the window hearing the shower start up. She waited patiently for her friend.

Closing the bathroom door behind her Ela made quick work of her normal combat clothing. She turned on the shower and began to look over all of the bruises and superficial cuts that littered her body in the mirror. Once the mirror started to fog over she opened the shower door and stepped under the scalding water. Letting it wash away all of the dirt, grime, and dried blood from her porcelain skin. As she scrubbed her skin clean she found herself thinking about the mission. Honestly, it wasn't even that exciting, but it was sure long. She began to shampoo her hair when she heard a loud knock on her door. "Meg, would you see who that is and what they want please?"

"Yea" she heard the door open and the faint sound of a conversation as she rinsed the last of the suds from her hair. The door closed with a thud and Ela wrapped herself in a towel and stepped out of the bathroom."Who was that?" She asked while rummaging through her dresser for some pajamas. She pulled out a pair of black panties and a green button up that was at least one size too big for her.

"Just Glaz. He wanted to give you your sketchbook back, said he accidentally grabbed it." The blonde woman turned to face the door to give Ela some privacy, but held the small leather notebook over her shoulder to show to the polish woman. Ela turned to see the notebook being waved in the air.

She then dropped her towel and began to dress herself using the towel to finish drying her hair then throwing it into her hamper. She then flopped face first into her bed. "You can turn back around now I'm decent." she said muffled by the pillow she was laying her head on.

The other woman turned around, flicked the lights off, and went to sit back where she was when Ela patted the bed space next to her. Knowing what the green haired girl wanted, Meghan went and took a seat next to Ela on her bed. Ela looked up at her, her blue eyes somehow managing to shine in the very little moonlight that was coming from the window. "I fucking hate the slow sniper missions." she said in her thick polish accent. "Honestly, I don't know how Timur and Kali do it all the time."

The blonde smiled down at her and put her hand on her back rubbing circles into it and causing Ela's eyes to fall shut. "Well we all have to cycle who they take as a partner, so at least you don't have to do it again for a while."

"Uhg, isn't that a blessing!" Ela said exasperated. Then the room fell back into a comfortable silence for a couple of long moments, Meghan watching the torso of the taller girl move up and down as she breathed. After a while the older of the two opened her eyes and spoke, "You wanna stay for the night?"

Valk chuckled, "You know my room is right down the hall right?"

"Mmm, I know."

"Yea, I'll stay."

"I know." Ela simply rolled over and scooted to one side of the bed to make room for her closest friend. She pulled the blanket around her leaving the bed open for her sleeping partner. The blonde then rose from the bed and began to take off her socks, shoes, and pants leaving her in her boxers and a black tank top. She slipped into the empty part of the bed and pulled the covers up to her chin and waited looking up at the ceiling. After no more than a minute Ela turned to her other side and squeezed in close, wrapping her arm around her middle and laying her head on the blonde's shoulder. Letting the rhythm of Meghan's heart lul her to sleep Ela drifted off in no time.

The shorter girl was having more trouble than her bed companion. She wrapped her muscular arms around Ela's waist and let her mind wander to her most sacred place. Where Ela wasn't just her friend and she was free to tell her how she felt.

As she lay in silence listening to the soft melody of her best friend's breathing, she imagined being able to run her hands freely over the pale skin of her back and other things. Immediately, she regretted this train of thought and mentally punched herself for letting her mind drift that far in such a dangerous direction. Clamping her eyes shut as hard as she could she bans that thought from her mind. Returning her mind to trying to sleep, she tuned into her own breathing. Slowing her breaths to a steady pace she forced herself into a restless slumber.

Stirring sometime later in the night, Ela opened her eyes and reminded herself that she was finally home and didn't need to wake up every 4 hours anymore. She raised her head from Valks shoulder and looked down at her friend. She could see the tension in her friend's face and on instinct rubbed the pad of her thumb across the skin between the blonde's eyebrows. The american's body relaxes instantly, but her eyes also fluttered open, finding Ela's soft blue's.

Realising her mistake as soon as she makes it Ela pulls her hand back and sits up on her elbow, still looking down at her friend. Her short green hair now falling in a curtain on one side of the shorter girl's face. "Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you. You looked to be having a rough time," she whispered as she brought her hand back up to rest on the blonde's toned stomach.

"Mmm. I think you did mean to wake me up," she whispered back. Smiling and wrapping her arms tighter around the polish woman she rolled over so that they were both on their sides facing each other. Her eyes were filled with mischief "I think you just missed me that much El."

Scoffing at her friend's accusation, Ela rolls her eyes and sticks her tongue out and the smaller girl."And I think you need a reality check," she said giggling. For a split second her friend's mood seems to dull, but as fast as it appears, it seems to disappear. She brushes it to the side and continues to study her friend's features in the dark. No matter what she said, she truly did miss the american and her sunshine smile. She was the only one that Ela would ever admit to loving on some level. The blonde meant a lot to the polish woman.

"What's on your mind?" Meghan asked pulling the polish woman out of her thoughts.

"Hm?" Her eyes snap to meet Meghan's soft greens,"I'm sorry I was lost in my own head."

"What's on your mind? You were looking at me like I was about to disintegrate right in front of you."

"Tęskniłem za tobą." she whispered almost inaudibly, knowing that the native english speaker wouldn't understand her anyway.

"I missed you too, El." The american says in return, surprising Ela with her understanding of polish. Her eyes widen, and she feels the blonde reach up take her cheek in her hand. She rubs her thumb under her eyes, wiping away the moisture that had collected there, "Why are you crying, El? Did something happen on the mission?"

Ela immediately pulled away and began to wipe at her own eyes,"No, honestly it was pretty boring. I just…" the older woman trailed off and Meghan could tell that she was shutting down.

"It's ok. Don't force yourself. You can tell me when you find the words, yea?" She stated quietly and then pulled Ela back to her,"for now let's just go back to sleep."

Ela nodded and let herself be pulled back into the strong woman's embrace. She now faced the opposite direction letting the smaller girl surround her from behind. She always felt safe with he other girl around. Meghan always knew how far to push her and when not to push at all.

She started to think about just how much the girl affects her state of mind. She had a habit of forgetting just how much she relied on the other girl's happiness and light. The american was her only outlet really. The only place she let herself consider letting her guard down and just being normal. The weeks away from that gradually wear on her, going mostly unnoticed. That is, until she sees the bright smiling girl again and everything feels like it just falls into place. Almost as if a switch is flipped. She gets so relieved at seeing her best friend that she has a habit of becoming quite emotional at times. By now, Valkyrie could probably predict what was going to happen before it did. She tried not to laugh at this thought, for fear of stirring her bed companion. She listened closely, and could hear the girl's breathing even out behind her.

As she lay listening to it she let her mind wander back to their slightly odd friendship. It was far different when they had originally met, Ela even going as far as to say she used to hate the american woman. They had met when they had both been assigned to the same task force in Iraq quite some time ago. The blonde was a by the book get it done kind of girl and Ela has been known to hate those types. Though they would butt heads often, they ended up completing their mission honorably with very few civilian or friendly casualties because of the blondes determination. This gained Ela's original respect but, when Ela had joined Team Rainbow, Meghan was so nice to Ela that the green haired girl actually came to like the woman even more.

One day the blonde actually took a bullet for the polish woman while they were trying to protect a hostage in Hong Kong. From that moment on the two became inseparable. Always working best when together and always out preforming their opponent. They truly became completely in sync with one another and Ela soaked up every moment with the blonde she could get her hands on. Often even stealing her away from the others for attention. She starts to feel bad at times, but when she once started to apologize to the blonde, Meghan just smiled, surprising her when she simply stated that she would rather spend her time with her anyway. So, she didn't question it further. Now, all she has to do is appear in a room and look at the muscular woman a certain way, and she will excuse herself.

She has noticed that everyone likes to make fun of them for how close the two women are, but that doesn't bother her either. It seems like all of the jokes are exactly that anyway. The only time the talk bothers her is when they start to make fun of Meghan specifically for being "whipped". She only gets irritated because the blonde seems to get upset at those specific jokes.

"Ela I can hear your brain going." the object of her thoughts murmurs from behind her,"c'mon go to sleep. I know for a fact that you're tired."

Ela turns around in the blonde's powerful grip and looks up at her friends' perfectly symmetrical facial features,"Mmm, Meghan you know you mean more to me than anything in the world right."

The americans eyes then pop open to look at the polish woman, "Yea El. I know. Are you ok? You really are acting kinda strange tonight. Like more than normal."

"I'm fine. I just can't stop thinking about how you're always here instead of with everyone else because of me and I wanted you to know that you mean a lot to me. It's not often I can come up with words to my feelings so…" she trailed off, not knowing what else to say.

"I appreciate it El, but I know. I wouldn't be your best friend if I didn't like being around you and I hang out with the others all the time anyway. I like when you steal me away. Makes me feel important, so stop worrying and go to sleep. Please El."

"Yea ok. Goodnight Meghan."

"Goodnight." and with that they both drifted off to sleep. Huddled under the covers of Ela's warm duvet. She didn't fight sleep or try to think anymore, just let Meghan's presence lull her to sleep.
