Chapter 15

The girl slept for three weeks straight.

And it worried Chloe to no end. While her wounds had ended up healing completely by the end of the first week, she still did not wake, though her pulse was strong and her breathing was regular. Chloe had taken her cumulated sick days to help take care of the girl after she had been told that due to his opposing nature to the girl's, he nor Mazdikeen could take care of her. And with Amenadiel off on some investigating of his own, it was left up to Chloe to take care of her.

It was sometime in late afternoon, during a slow day in middle of the second week when Chloe belayed her worries to the two demons in the Lux's bar area. It was a rare night when the infamous bar and nightclub was closed, because either Lucifer didn't feel like indulging in sin or he was too busy with something else to monitor his nightclub.

"Well, considering I beat the absolute shit out of her, I'm not surprised." Mazdkeen chuckled as she threw back a shot of whiskey. Chloe shot the torturer a deadpan look. "Don't worry, Decker. If she hadn't discorporated by now, then she'll be fine. I think."

Chloe's brow furrowed at that strange word, but she didn't say anything else. Instead, she threw back her own shot of whiskey. It took a while for it go down, seeing how Lucifer only bought the strongest stuff and it tasted like lit gasoline, but once it settled in her stomach, it settled beautifully. After a brief cough to clear her throat, with a distinct stare from Mazdikeen, Chloe shook her head.

"Why were you guys so harsh on her anyway? She seems like a sweet girl."

At the piano across the way, Lucifer scoffed, which blended lovely with the soft melody that he was playing. "Most angels aren't so keen when encountering demons."

"We've been at each other's throats since the Rebellion happened." Maz held her glass, gently swirling it while staring off with fondness in her eyes. "What a war, what a slaughter.….ugh, I miss those days."

"And you're saying that Gabriel, the Archangel, sent her down to earth to kill you?"

"Most likely, she had been on Earth for a while." Lucifer's eyes closed as he started to sway with the melody that he was playing. "You don't pick up human mannerisms quickly. Trust me on that. The fact that she stayed hidden for as long as she did means that she was here quite some time before Gabriel sent her this way."

"Okay…...so where did she get the sword?"

"Who knows."

Chloe rolled her eyes. "Some help you are."

She listened to the sounds of the melody that Lucifer played, his fingers moving across the ivory keys in a symphony that would have been famous if it hadn't been for his literal devilish nature, he would've been a pretty good pianist. He swayed back and forth with it, and Chloe let herself relax.

Everything was fine. Lucifer was fine, Maz was fine, the girl was fine…..well, she was going to be fine.

Hopefully.

Chloe sighed, figuring that she had enough to drink and decided to return to her vigil over the girl. She was still sound asleep when Chloe returned to the penthouse, her fingers running over her forehead to check for fever. When she found none, the detective checked for any wounds that might've not healed.

Nothing.

Chloe sighed, her head pounding heavily as the alcohol started to take effect. It didn't take too much for Chloe to get drunk these days, and with two shots of the hardest whiskey that she ever had in her life, she felt more than a little drunk. Her thoughts started to cloud, dangerously so that she was really glad that Lucifer wasn't up here. Otherwise, clothes would be flying all over the room. Chloe made a disgusted noise, chuckling to herself at the thought of the two of them intertwined before her cheeks started to heat up. She shook her head to clear herself of those thoughts.

I'm supposed to be watching this girl. And definitely not thinking about how hot Lucifer is…oh crap. He might hear my thoughts… Chloe sighed as she sat on the arm chair, her arms crossed and her lips puckered in thought. Her eyes started to drift shut and soon she was fast asleep.
