Chapter 10:
A few hours after the brunch at the Diner, they found themselves in Erconsky. It was a rather small town but there were a lot of care homes and hospices there. Once he had hidden as much weaponry on him as he could, Dean volunteered to scout out the place and find out where his younger sister's ghost had planned to have the final showdown. Surprisingly or maybe not that surprisingly, John refused and revealed that he knew exactly where the ghost had wanted them to be. Dean shot a look at his mother and when she nodded they followed John who had fallen back into the dazed mood. A few winding twists and turns through the town and later through a care home brought them in front of a door at the end of a long hall way. With a steadying breath, John pushed open the door to find a young girl, barely in her twenties lying in a bed hooked to so many machines that it was almost impossible to see the girl clearly. Even more surprisingly, they found Sam and Castiel sitting at a table near the window, cheerfully chatting with the ghost girl, no Stella.
"Cas, Sam what are you guys doing here?" Dean finally asked after a minute of silence.
Sam merely smiled at them settling back as though to watch a show and pulled a bag of popcorn from somewhere, again. Now that he thought about it, Sam has been pulling shit out of thin air since Cas pulled him out of the cage, Dean thought. Cas on the other hand stood up and said "It's a pleasure to see you again, Madonna. Hello, Dean and you must be John Winchester, I assume."
"Yes?" John asked gruffly, hands moving towards his gun.
"None of that, now. I would rather you keep your weapons to yourself." A voice said from behind them, making everyone turn towards the door. There leaning against the door sill, was the unmistakable form of one Adam Milligan.
"Adam?!" John asked flabbergasted. "But you were dead!"
Adam raised an eyebrow and walked past the shell-shocked Winchesters [with the very obvious exception of Sam who was enjoying the drama unfolding in front of him, thoroughly]. He dropped himself onto the bed beside the girl taking care not to disturb the wires connected to her. Once settled he turned to John and said "So were you. But that's not why we are here. Stella darling, what's the verdict?"
Stella bounced over to Adam's side and he hauled her up onto the bed. She stroked her hand through the girl's hair and it was at that shocking moment that Dean realized that the girl on the bed was in fact Stella. As though she could hear his thoughts, she turned smirked at him before turning to face Adam whose eyes had started glowing a beautiful shade of silver and shadows of wings, larger than any Dean had ever seen spread out behind his youngest brother. Silver, like the streaks of thunder coursing through dark storm clouds, not the usual white glow of grace as seen in the eyes of other angels. Dean wanted to scream, to shout and struggle, to tell the bloody angels to leave him and his family alone. To tell Stella not to answer the question when he realized what exactly this angel had wanted from her. But all Dean could do was watch helplessly because he couldn't move. Stella answered Adam, or whoever was wearing him, almost reverently, an odd tone to hear from the mouth of a child. She maybe a ghost, but was still a child.
"Yes."
Adam threw his head back and a glowing, sparking silver mass of something [grace, a voice that sounded eerily like that of Sam's answered in the back of his mind.] rose out of his mouth and swirled into Stella's body, filling the room with bright blinding light. Dean remembered to close his eyes at the last moment and spared himself from going blind. Once the light had settled, Dean opened his eyes slowly to find Stella's body sitting up eyes glowing silver, while the ghost almost bounced in excitement beside them. Adam's eyes were now glowing a delicate gold that reminded Dean of sunlight.
"Thank you." the angel in the girl's body said to Stella's ghost.
"You're welcome. Make sure to give them hell, okay?"
"I will."
And with that Stella's spirit turned into silver mist and was lifted unto the Heavens.
