"Right here. Use the healing crystal on him. Remember, he is my brother. He is not to be miniaturized. Do not, I repeat. Do not turn him into a shrinky."

The researcher looked at me and simply shook her head.

"You've done quite a number on him. Do I have your guarantee he won't be a problem later on?"

"You can count on it. Just heal him up already."

"Very well. Let's see if this device thingy works."

Brother, why did you have to go and make this hard for me?

It's been about 3 weeks since my incident with my younger brother. I know he cares but he can be so reckless at times. If he's not careful, those girls at the Society do all sorts of horrible things to him. That is why it was necessary for me to get him to shut up about.

"Answer me this. Is it true you used the prototype healing crystal for personal reasons?"

"Yes. I did to heal my younger brother."

"And were you responsible for preventing his transformation into a shrinky?"

"Yes. I cannot shrink him. He is my family after all."

"Your younger brother doesn't seem to like us, not that it matters. How do we know he won't be a problem later on?"

"He won't. His memories of the whole affair have been all but erased. If anything, now he's glad I'm part of a major group."

"Very well. As long as your brother and any other member of your household stays in line, we will ensure they remain on the exemption list."

The exemption list. Could it be that there are certain individuals miss Madame Director refuses to have shrunk and turned into our shrinkies?

"By the way. Winter break will be coming in about a month's notice for now. Do you have any plans for the holidays?"

"I'm glad you asked. Yes, I'll be spending time with my relatives on my mom's side."

"And your relatives. Do they know about your involvement with us?"

"No, and I doubt they will be a problem. They mostly keep to themselves. Is there anything else you need, Madame Director?"

"No. You may get back to work now."

In about 1 month winter break will start. Even though I haven't been in this Society for long, I'm already feeling a great sense of accomplishment. Hahah, who knows? If I hadn't stumbled upon this glorious Society I would've been stuck in the gutters just trying to make it by. With the amount I'm earning however, I can easily afford to pamper myself and then some. Still, if there's one thing that's a bit problematic it is that my grades have dipped a bit since joining the Society. I guess it's to be expected.

Another day at work. It's started to snow outside. Recently the number of escaped shrinkies has plummeted. Heh, well this is to be expected. With the conditions as they are right now in Japan, it would be suicidal for any shrinky to attempt to 'survive' out there in the wilderness. Not only are there all these creepy crawlies to contend with, but a shrinky is easily mistaken for a bug or failing that, a tasty treat. Besides, its cold so unless those shrinkies want to freeze to death, they have no choice but to stay with us. Hehe,it sure feels great lording over them.

"W-wait. Don't go. If you go out there, you'll freeze."

Huh. Who's the green-haired kid over there?

"Oh. Didn't see you there, miss-"

"It's Aoi. Nishi Aoi. I'm pleased to make your acquaintance. You are?"

"I'm Mizuho. Komugi Mizuho. The pleasure's all mine, Aoi. Hey! Careful there you little guys."

She seems busy. What a bright kid. I wonder how old she is.

"You seem pretty bright. I hope you don't mind me asking this, but how old are you?"

"I'm 12."

If she's 12, then would that mean…

"Are you a prodigy of some sort?"

"Why yes- oh no. (sigh) What am I going to do with you little guys? Huh? Am I that scary? It's alright. It will alright. Now hop into my hand. Don't worry."

This girl… she may be a prodigy but of what? Moreover, the way she's treating these shrinkies..

"Again? Why did we let some snot nosed brat join our Society again?"

Kanon. What is she doing here?

"Ch-chief Kanon. It-it's because-"

"I didn't ask for your input, dipshit. Hmm? Another batch of shrinkies trying to escape again?"

"Please don't look at them like that. You're scaring them."

"Am I now? Aww, hey there little guys. You scared? Don't be. I promise I'm completely safe. Come here. I promise I won't bite.. Just kidding."

That's- that's just sick. I know I'm not one for talking considering all the horrendous things I've committed. Even for the pursuit of science there's no doubt I've overstepped my ethical bounds. But to try and get the hopes up even for a lowly shrinky- that's just sad and twisted.

"You're way too soft on them. See, this is the exact reason why we shouldn't have a kid. Can't believe I have to deal with this idiotic bunch. Here. Allow me to show you how it's done."

I don't care much for those shrinkies, but I sort of pity whatever horrendous fate she has planned for them.

"Please put them down, senpai."

"Listen here, you little bugs. You think you can escape us? Don't make me fucking laugh. Ah, this miserable resistance. So delicate, it kind of makes me want to- ohhh. Now that feels good."

She- she just squashed those shrinkies in the palm of her hand like a bunch of bugs. Is she crazy? Wha- what an utter waste of resources! Least she hasn't seen the ones scampering on the ground just yet.

Spoke too soon.

"This, this isn't right." Mizuho objected

"Huh? Are you trying to ruin my fun?"

"Fun? This is serious. We've been having more and more escape attempts from our charge." replied Mizuho

"I fail to see your point and it doesn't matter. The next time you little punks decide to make a break for it.. Oh ho! Maybe I won't squash you like a bug or step on you like an ant. Hm, you all look tasty. How about a bite?"

"Stop it. I won't let you do it."

"Hmph, whatever. I don't have time for this."

Mizuho. Perhaps it's on account of her being the youngest member here but the way she treats shrinkies is vastly different from the whole of us. It's as if she treats them as humans. Ha, what a laughable notion. Human? They're nothing more than resources, tools and toys to be used at our pleasure. Still, even for me Kanon's actions are way too much.

"Senseless. Completely senseless."

"It's alright. I try not to let it bother me too much."

What a fast rebound. For a moment there I thought there was no way a kid, even a prodigy could withstand the pressure of working with such loathsome louts.

"Oh. Would you mind helping me carry them?"

"I don't mind."

"Thanks, you're a real great help."

What an interesting girl. Such naivety and yet maybe there's something about her. I'm not quite sure what it is.

"On second thought, maybe I should hold onto them."

"Having second thoughts?"

"I don't want them to be harmed, that's all. If I can avoid unnecessary bloodshed, then I'll take it. Besides, it looks like they're scared of you too."

"Ha, I guess I do sort of seem pretty terrifying to these shrinkies. By the way, will you be attending Wednesday's winter party?"

"Yes. I hope to see you there."

"Me too."
